As Auburn goes on a big run lol.

@BShark That NMSU team is solid. I do fully expect that to be a down to the wire game.

I do expect Nebraska to get going again in Football.

@dylans You just have to trust Andy at this point. The dude knows how to coach football and succeed in this league. He will get guys to step up no matter how everything ends up shaking out.

Sort of have to go cheap. Those contracts coming up aren't going to be cheap.

@HighEliteMajor How has anything I have ever said changed anything for the 95%?

2019 Transfer List • Mar 19, 2019 06:26 PM

@BeddieKU23 Looks like he has.

2019 Transfer List • Mar 19, 2019 05:32 PM

Mark Emmert's salary is $2.4M.

That's all I need to know about the NCAA. What probably started out as a pure and noble idea has been completely infiltrated by greed.

Hot Rumor • Mar 19, 2019 05:21 PM

@wissox I don't understand why people think it is so easy to just accuse the other programs of wrongdoing.

So what if KU says so and so is cheating? Do we have proof? Is there a paper trail? Is there video evidence? A phone recording? You're forgetting that the NCAA doesn't have subeona power and basically had no way of proving any of the things that have come out since the FBI became involved. Coaches and players could have easily just lied and there was nothing the NCAA could do from there. So the choice was not to tell on someone. It was either lose out on a player because someone is paying them, or pay them yourself.

To think that at least a dozen other schools have been caught in pay for play schemes, yet the two teams that are dominating the recruiting trail are doing it cleanly? Does that not sound preposterous? What do those two schools have to offer that KU didn't? UCLA? Indiana? All historic programs. Solid academic programs. Attracting some of the top coaches in the country. Top tier facilities. Yet they aren't close to even sniffing UK or Duke's jock.

It doesn't make any sense.

Especially not once you add in all of the other things that have surrounded the programs. I mean, Zion has had his rumors. Anthony Davis. Bam Abedeyo. John Wall. Boogie Cousins. Xavier Henry. Derryck Thornton. Marvin Bagley. Trevon Duval. Harry Giles. Frank Jackson.

All of these guys had sketchy ass recruitments. Two of them were assumed to be major academic risks. Yet somehow they were cleared to play at one of the top academic institutions in the country?

What about head to head recruiting battles between KU, Duke and UK? They happen yearly. And if we are willing to pay...

I mean there are just so many dang signs that point to pretty much no D1 basketball program being truly clean. Whether they are directly complicit in it? Different story.

That's if they even get the chance. Still rumblings he's leaving regardless of his season

This would shock me. He still has so much to gain by coming back as what would be a young Sophomore.

Self vs Shaka III: Blood Feud • Mar 15, 2019 04:32 PM

@HighEliteMajor We have seen improvements from guys. But I do think they are likely from work they do on their own. Mason, Svi, Vick, Ellis, and T-Rob all come to mind as guys that drastically improved their shooting from where they started.

Self vs Shaka III: Blood Feud • Mar 15, 2019 03:59 PM

@BeddieKU23 Grimes shot is unbelievably flat. And that is something that can be fixed, just not midseason. For dramatic and not perfect comparison, let's look at just two still photos that I've drawn the ball path on (poorly). One is a tight up Grimes make vs. MSU. Not even Grimes flattest shot. The other is Curry from the opposite side of the floor, very zoomed out. Curry's ball literally made the camera move up to be able to fit the ball in the full video. It would have gone off of the screen had it stayed still. The Apex is probably 15 feet above the rim. Grimes' ball is, at it's apex, maybe 5 feet above the rim?

Now Ray Allen didn't have the biggest arch and he was a great shooter. But he also had the arch that Grimes has on Grimes best shots. Every time. So this seems like a poor approach to take imo.

I personally think Grimes will eventually be a consistent shooter. However, it will likely take an offseason to retrain his brain to shoot with a different arch than he currently has.

I would think we could if we win the tournament, maybe even get to a 3 seed. KSU killed its chances of better than 4 IMO with a laughable non conference schedule.

I sort of think the 3 seeds are locked in unless tonight’s loss drops TTU behind us

I do really like our options at the end of round 1. There are 3 of the top CBs mocking near us, two quality DEs and the top SS. I just hope Veach doesn't trade up for our first pick this year. Pick any of those 6 that end up in our lap. Then move up in the 2nd to get one of the others.

dylans said:

@Kcmatt7 I had hoped Fuller would just cover the slot (his most effective position), so they need to hit on another CB in the draft. IMHO of course. Lol

I agree with this for sure. I think they feel good about Ward, but not great. If they don't draft a CB in the first few picks, we will know. Ultimately, I think we see Fuller in the slot regardless.

4 picks in the first 100 selections. They need to find at least 2 impact guys out of that.

Then there is the wildcard guys that exist. DOD and Watts come to mind. Both guys could probably end up having big roles.

I'd just implore patience right now. It does feel like they had a plan going into this whole thing that they are still following.

Free agency • Mar 14, 2019 01:38 AM

@dylans I'd like to see us find an undervalued box safety in the second. A more nimble DOD.

I really think their goal is to find as many versatile players as they can, disguise the coverage, and blitz like hell while leaving the two outside CBs on an island.

Free agency • Mar 14, 2019 01:36 AM

You sort of have to assume that the staff thinks Speaks and KPass are capable of playing at least average football. We haven't sniffed a DE yet in FA. Not even a DT. The focus is to clearly improve the secondary significantly.

Free agency • Mar 14, 2019 01:34 AM

dylans said:

@Kcmatt7 The secondary last year killed me. Too bad none of the Berry cap savings is realized until June 2. Can’t play with that money yet, so it’s probably part of the Jones/Hill or even Mahomes future cap space planning.

Darby would be a huge upgrade, but more work needs to be done. Probably in the draft.

I sort of expect that the current Mock Drafts are right and we end up taking a CB in the first round. That would, if the pick isn't a complete bust, (and the Darby signing happens) give you 4 quality DBs. From there, all you have to do is drum up pressure between the 4 lineman and the LBs. Send 5 from all different places and hope that can create enough pressure.

@Kcmatt7 I'm not an NFL expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I don't see Houston and Ford as part of the defensive liabilities. They were about the only bright spots on that dismal defense.

Are we better with two high end DBs and average DEs? Or are we better with two high end DEs and scraps at DB?

In Spags blitz heavy scheme, I think probably the former than the latter.

Free agency • Mar 14, 2019 01:20 AM

@dylans Darby is visiting... That's a move.

I personally think they're trying to make sure that the secondary is able to cover. Spags defense relies a lot on pressure coming from random places and a lot of blitzing. Meaning that Ford and Houston, besides not being great scheme fits in general, were also not positions as highly valued in our scheme.

Because it's a pretty blitz heavy scheme, it also means we need to upgrade the secondary (with guys who can play).

dylans said:

Ok. I’m getting more confused as to what the goal is by the minute. Berry was cut. Houston released. Dee Ford was traded with no immediate return. Mathieu is a nice signing, but that’s really it other than depth so far. 🤔

The time is now to capitalize on Mahones cheap contract window, so wtf?!?

Well keeping them basically was saying we were fine with a 31st ranked defense. Because their salaries were the largest, it was time to go and revamp the defense to fit the new scheme. Had we kept them, there wasn’t really any salary left to make moves.

Free agency • Mar 13, 2019 03:41 PM

And as deep as the safety market is, it also has been very expensive this offseason. Surprisingly expensive.

Free agency • Mar 13, 2019 03:40 PM

@dylans I honestly don't know who they'd go for. But we do need to find a starter quality CB now that Nelson is gone. If we don't, we are almost forced to draft one at 29.

I'd rather be able to take BPA at 29.

And now there's this • Mar 13, 2019 03:36 PM

Yes, lets broadly apply the value of bribes by the extremely wealthy to the 99.99% of other students and all athletes at all institutions. Basically, all student athletes are millionaires, they just can't claim any of that on their assets or see it in their bank account.

New 2019 Recruiting • Mar 12, 2019 06:24 PM

Someone will fill those scholarships.

New 2019 Recruiting • Mar 12, 2019 04:35 PM

The Spring will be ridiculously busy for us I think. So, yes, we should be interested in it.

Hot Rumor • Mar 12, 2019 02:06 PM

@BShark Tickets were definitely down this year. My mom works for KU and was able to get $15 tickets through work to every home game except for Nova. Even KSU. I think this is just trying to get people locked in for two seasons so they can focus on filling the rest.

Bracketology Time • Mar 11, 2019 04:07 PM

@HighEliteMajor I'd rather not get depressed. Ohio State or Clemson could be a 12 seed if we end up losing Thursday and we end up a 5 seed. I think we would lose to either team.

Miles opening spring press conference • Mar 11, 2019 03:35 PM

@stoptheflop It sounds like Miles will be here until he is physically incapable of doing it. I'd say we get at least 5 years out of him, but my real guess would be close to 10.

That squad last year had ice water in their veins. You forget until you watch it again. Svi, DG and end of the year Newman were unflappable.

Other Games Tonight • Mar 11, 2019 03:11 PM

@dylans Margin of Victory. When they win, they are winning by quite a bit.

Bracketology Time • Mar 11, 2019 02:24 PM

Bracketville (Typically one of the better ones) has us as a 4 seed in Louisville with UNC, Tennessee and Purdue. As well as a struggling Marquette as the 5 seed.

I would not be unhappy with this.

Where would this team be with Romeo? He would have made a difference imo. And I think Self would have made him a top 7 pick. Indiana sort of exposed him by leaning on him too hard.

@jayballer73 Any coach trying to "prove something" by moving to the NBA at this late stage in a college career would be the insane one. Self's coaching strategies don't really seem to develop lots of NBA stars. Currently, it is a star-driven league with isolation offense dominating, not something we have seen at KU except with Frank, perhaps. Why would he risk being a failure?

With the only real exception being San Antonio... I can't deny that he fits their culture and organization exceptionally well.

I do agree that he'd be crazy to go though.

@BeddieKU23 Ideally, you land Enaruma and one of the other two. I won't be picky.

If we whiff on Hurt and Achiuwa though, I think we really need to find another playable wing. Depth looks like a major issue next season.

I'm interested in finding out if Enaruma is actually as good as the hype coming in on him recently. His highlights are not bad but then you put actual tape of his games and I'm underwhelmed. Of course he seems to be developing as we speak so who knows. Theres a world of difference between Hurt, Achiuwa and him and as you said ideally maybe you get him to come in and develop while the top 10 guys start and play a big role. This isnt a deep class full of immediate plug and play talent which really isnt ideal because KU needs difference making talent as it looks.

Best case Scenario is somehow Self lands at least Hurt or Achiuwa. Together they would be a heck of a duo in the frontcourt in a perfect world. We could bring Dave in off the bench for a 15-20 minute role as the big enforcer. Mitch fills his role as he always has as the 4th big.

If we only land 1 then I hope there is an athletic 5 man available on the transfer market. Think about how big Reid Travis was for Kentucky this yr which I didnt see, I was wrong there. Also in our own league Tarik Owens has made the difference for Texas Tech. Tarik Black was a heck of a 1 yr man here years back. I'd ditch the sitout transfer market until he solidifies next years squad.

If we are down to 7 guys with 5 spots open I'd love for Self to have at least 12 eligible players. It's been literally years since he even finished a season with 10. That's a problem. We are potentially looking at a real end of an era, dynasty whatever you want to call it if these guys leave and Silvio doesnt get his season back. Self needs to find veterans to blend with his young pups. I'm excited for the 2 signed freshman and I hope they find minutes next year.

I can see a scenario where Self is in on every major transfer on the market. I cant see him being okay with how young he might be. He missed bad on Moore on that last spot 2 yrs ago. Dedric was a plus but we've gotten only a handful of impactful games from KJ who was part of the package deal. 2 of 3 sit out transfers have not produced as 3rd and 4th yr college players. I'm about to start digging into what might be coming available on the market

You and I are on the same page

McBride Quotes, Articles etc... • Mar 08, 2019 09:12 PM

@BShark I think McBride may be quick enough to defend next season. I do not have that same thought of Braun at the moment... To me he looks like the redshirt candidate Ochai was supposed to look like this season.

Braun • Mar 08, 2019 09:10 PM

@JAYHAWKFAN214 I think they mean after next season. I actually find it a legit possibility. No reason all three of them don't average double digit points and have us in the Top 5 from start to finish.
