@FarSideHawk You're not allowed to eat Pizza Shuttle until after 1:30 AM. Those are the rules.
I'd like to see us hit Denver, St. Louis, Memphis, NW Arkansas and Minneapolis hard recruiting. It gets back to Les saying he'll have a radius to build a base from. There definitely won't be enough Kansas/Metro Area kids to build a base from. But building relationships in these other cities could provide us a solid pipeline to tap.

@Kcmatt7 - 39 years old! Heβs a fan because he watched games with me when he was a kid (when I used to throw things at the screen and yell). Villanova is his birthday/Christmas present wrapped into one (for the price of these tix!π€£π€£)
Oh then definitely hit both of the breweries (Freestate and 23rd street) and get flights!
If you like to play darts and are looking for something to do on Friday or Saturday night, LeRoy's (located on the block behind Mass St.) has free darts and Foosball and not free pool.
For late night food, Burger Stand does $5 Burger and Fries every night after 10 PM.
The Bourgeois Pig is a pretty cool place to just hang out and have a cocktail.
The Bottlekneck looks like they are having an adults only comedy/dance type of show Saturday night. ($7 cover). I have absolutely no idea what to expect with this though lol.
That's all I got for you. But have fun!! I'm jealous!
@Gorilla72 I have no idea how old your son is. But Java break is a fun place to go. It's a cereal bar and a coffee bar. It's a cool little place to just kill 30 minutes.
@dylans Yea it's crazy how many new places open. Or even just move to different locations. Pepperjacks moved off of mass. Buffalo Wild Wings moved. A random weekend to Lawrence is probably overdue. Honestly, there are just so many places that it's impossible to try them all.
My favorite restaurant is 23rd street brewery, and it isn't close.
I'd do Jefferson's at some point. My favorite pizza is Pyramid. Fuzzy's is good. Burger Stand (at the Cashbah) is a staple. The original Johnny's is there, and a fun place to pre-game. Mi Ranchito is decent mexican. Kobe is hibachi.
I personally did not like Freestate, but I probably need to give it another go. I haven't ate at the 715 restaurant yet, but would like to at some point.
Seems like a solid recruiting hire. Connections to CCs and the Florida area.
It all started at KU. The number of programs simply touched by KU is unbelievable.
Tad Boyle. Mark Turgeon. Jerod Haas. Joe Dooley. Danny Manning. Rex Walters. Kevin Stallings. Jerry Green. CB McGrath. Tim Jankovich. John Calipari. Gale Catlett. Larry Brown. Adolph Rupp. Dean Smith. Dutch Lonborg. Ralph Miller. Barry Hinson. David Padgett. Doc Sadler. Ben Miller. Kyle Keller. Norm Roberts. Matt Doherty. Neil Dougherty. Jerry Green. Steve Robinson.
And that doesn't even include the NBA. Alvin Gentry. Greg Popovich. Jacque Vaughn. R.C. Buford. Mark Randall. Milt Newton. Kevin Pritchard. Bob Hill.
If you were to do one branch further off of anyone who was simply touched by KU basketball, we are talking about 1/3 of college basketball and 1/2 of the NBA having been connected to KU in some form or fashion.
So, in my opinion, KU's Blue Blood status really has little to do with it's success. At least compared to that of the others. It has to do with the fact that damn near every single piece of basketball history has a trail that somehow leads all the way back to 1651 Naismith Dr.
A bad shooting UK team loses it's best shooter... NIT in coming. I can feel it
@justanotherfan Besides him playing well consistently against all opponents, he is 100% worth the risk unless you think you are going to fill this entire first class.
https://247sports.com/player/valerian-agbaw-46055314/ β This one is done. Just won't be announced until his Birthday in January. Hoping they make him a CB.
Starks did just start following Jax Dineen and a couple of KU players. That Louisiana connection is amazing.
Jones was obviously the lead recruiter for Parker while he was committed to Tech. But KU was involved with the old regime so this is sort of the best of both worlds. Don't be surprised if TCU gets in the mix though.
There is going to be some serious offensive talent coming in at the WR position.
We are the better team on paper. If we defend the 3 well everything will be fine.
If he's going to transfer, now would be the time. He'd be eligible at semester next season...

@Kcmatt7 corey williams
His recruitment still appears very open and his Twitter definitely shows interest in KU.
@justanotherfan In every game they lost this season, he had over 100 yards receiving and a TD. The kid absolutely dominated all season long.
Yea dude was landing like 4 or 5 guys a year at Tech. Great hire.
@ReggieKansas Which one?
https://247sports.com/player/cameron-burt-46056131/ β
His QB was Graham Mertz, but you can't say he doesn't deserve a chance. Has the size, and made HS kids look slow so I assume he has the speed. Give him a chance Les!
Definitely a shot at this kid.
Unless we keep Coach Cash, I think we may lose out on this guy.
Louisiana Kid that'd be nice to land
Going to be a fight between KU and KSU for this guy potentially.
A couple of WRs visiting in the next week. I'd expect us to land one of them. One a HS kid one a juco kid.

I hope they go after Cooper Beebe with Snyder out now. Kid has the genes.

This guy got an offer as well.
MacVittie looks like a stud on film. Of course everyone does on their highlights. But he looks big and athletic. Would be happy landing him.
@BeddieKU23 You would have thought. Bill compounded the problem though by double teaming him for some strange reason. And give up 6 easy buckets instead of forcing several tough 2s...
Either rotations have to be so good that you can double team in the post, or you have to live with giving up some baskets 1v1. But doubling and not rotating is a surefire way to give up easy baskets.
I will say, how is it that this team is unable to properly rotate 8 games into the season? I've seen high school basketball teams rotate better than we do. I just don't understand how it's so hard for this bunch.
I didn't say anything about the game yet (I was at the game so I wasn't able to post immediately after). After letting it marinate, I think anyone upset with how we just played against NM State needs to think about how Doke would have absolutely owned Aurrecochea on both ends, all day long, and we probably wouldn't have had the same lull in the 1st half. We just beat a solid team who will likely win their conference and be in the NCAA tournament while missing what would have been our best mismatch in that game.
This was a really good win on a day where we struggled. This team knows how to close out games and they've got some fight. I still think this group is special. A lot of room left for growth. I think we'll see them really come together here in the next three weeks.
@justanotherfan I'll disagree. He is instantly our 2nd best outfielder after Gordo. For only $5M.
If they make the commitment to D, Phillips should be starting in RF. And Bonifacio would be a great backup outfielder and late game bat.
Add in that the Indians are selling off everything and going for a rebuild and it may only take 81 wins to land the division title. Not saying they can win 81 games, but they could at least make it competitive. Which means more eyeballs and more revenue. More revenue means a $5M signing was completely worth it.
Fwiw, I do think this team could win 75 games next season if the pitching rotation can stay relatively healthy. Part of that is getting better bullpen pieces to take the strain off some of them. Another big part of that though is improving the defense. This signing absolutely improves the defense.
I find nothing wrong with a value signing at an area of need for relatively cheap.
Next big step forward would be going after a bullpen arm. And there is some decent bullpen arms out there to be had.
Royals doing what they should do and playing to their home field advantage. Find speedsters and RUN. Next year's lineup actually looks formidable. What I want to see is either an additional starter and Kennedy sliding into the pen or a high-end bullpen arm. But, I do think next season's group should be fun to watch at least.
- C - Salvy
- 1B - O'Hearn
- 2B - Whit
- 3B - ?
- SS - Mondesi
- LF - Gordo/Goodwin
- CF - Hamilton
- RF - Bonifacio
- DH - Soler
With Goodwin and Phillips as 4th and 5th outfielders. Ideally, we will platoon Goodwin and Bonifacio.
Starters:
- Junis
- Duffy
- Keller
- Fillmyer
- Minor leaguer (Oaks, Sparkman, Hernandez, Kalish)
Pen:
- Peralta
- Kennedy
- Flynn
- McCarthy
- Hopefully a Free Agent
What I'd really like to see is Nicky Lopez get called up to 2B and the Whit play 3rd. Lean in to having a team built around speed. I'd also like to see Frank Schwindel get his shot at the Big Leagues. He could platoon with O'Hearn or DH and leave Soler in RF.
Either way, I like the signing. I expect 40 SBs. It really looks like we'll see 3 guys on our team steal 40+ bases. If Lopez gets called up early, another guy with 15.
My ideal batting order:
- Mondesi
- Lopez
- Whit
- Soler
- Bonifacio
- O'Hearn
- Salvy
- Gordo
- Hamilton
This 2019 team should be pretty awful still. But definitely has some pieces for the next decent Royals team. We need to get some pitching. We need to find another bat. But overall, I'm excited by this bunch.
@HawkChamp I didnβt say anything definite in my post. But yes, a quarter of the season down and Iβm guessing he will be back.
Good hire imo.
@Woodrow If you can find it in cities you actually want to live in. Europe is a strange, strange place. Some of the cities are so old, even basic necessities aren't what we're accustomed to. Add in that most of the time guys have to be willing to go to the middle-east. Which also can have strange accommodations. Food is different. Travel is different. Being in a place you don't speak the language (and have no reason to since you will probably be playing for a different team in 9 months) can suck.
I loved every second of my time in Europe. But I also could see why some people would struggle with it. If you don't play at one of the major Western European countries, or in a major city in one of the Eastern European countries, it takes a certain kind of person to enjoy and succeed.
Les needs to give Bubba Starling a call. See if he's ready to end his baseball career yet.
@BeddieKU23 I'm hoping. I'm worried Bill might ruin him for this season.
@KirkIsMyHinrich We desperately need some post help for next season. KJ, Mitch and Big Dave isn't going to cut it.
Grimes really slipping down draft boards. I'd bet on him being back at this point.
Les just keeps bringing in guys who can recruit. Good hire. No complaints.

This type of thing always drives me crazy. Just a guy looking for clicks.
We might not get numbers in 2019. But we might still end up with more quality talent in a single class than we maybe have ever seen.

@Kcmatt7 Bank records of course only document what is deposited and withdrawn, not cash that is not deposited as we know. Hard to believe this dude put it in the bank. If I'm the investigator, bank records don't mean much in this situation when looking for wrongdoing -- meaning the absence of the transaction is of little value. Of course, bank records can hurt, too, if money was deposited. There it would be value, but not what you're assuming. I guess my point is if there was no transaction(s), and investigator, that wouldn't mean anything to me.
@BeddieKU23 We know this dude is a snake. My question is whether Silvio would just be flat ineligible. If not, give us a suspension. What other info is need. Heck, if I were KU, I'd ask the NCAA to assume he got the UA money and the $2500, and then tell me the suspension and conditions (payback or whatever) and be done with it. If he's just determined ineligible in with those facts, then I'd want to know that too.
Maybe they have .. that makes more sense to me. Coming up with the $22,500 could be the issue. I don't know. I'd chip in a grand to help pay it back -- but then I'd get a fraud charge, right? But only if the prosecutor deems it important enough to charge.
If it never hit the bank, that checks something off the list. If he does have large cash transactions, that is a red flag. Anyone receiving a large cash transaction would have some sort of proof of that transaction. I see what you're saying. But transparency on Fenny's part would clear this right up. One way or the other...
@approxinfinity its ruthless and fair game until they're on campus
Cheap insurance. Love the move. Great late add as he has tools that could come in handy for the playoffs.
Feel bad for him. As far as super-millionaire football players careers go, he's had a really rough one. Nothing but a high character human-being. Wish him the best.
I'm confident this could be solved by the Guardian getting his bank to send his records to the NCAA.
But he won't.... This is one of the few times that I wouldn't blame the NCAA. There is someone admitting to paying De Sousa under oath. And the problem could very easily be solved.
Now if the NCAA has all the info and is slow playing it, I will totally agree it's their faults. But if information is being withheld, it isn't necessarily their fault.
Absolutely a reason he was dropped. Definitely still want a 6'5 red zone and 3rd down threat. Mostly, I don't want someone else to get him and kill us in the playoffs with some dagger fade in the endzone.
