Everyone's dirty. Whether or not the head coach knows it or believes it, I don't know. But every single school playing D1 basketball, that is any good, has a player getting paid cash under the table. It's the people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones scenario.
Also, there is the having to prove it part of the equation. UNC could call the NCAA and say Duke is dirty. And the NCAA would ask them what proof they had. And even if they said a recruit asked them for money, but they said no and he went to Duke. Well, does that mean for certain they took money to go to Duke? Not necessarily. The NCAA doesn't have the power to look up the parents bank records. There is nothing they can really do. If they suspended every player that was accused of taking money, there would be nobody left to play D1 basketball because anyone could accuse anyone.
Now, to the favoring of Duke. I have no clue. My best bet would be to protect Coach Ks legacy. They are certainly not clean.

Coach K is certainly not a Saint. From little violations to having parents/players paid by Nike, they aren't squeaky clean at all.
USA ball didn’t help any other coach before so it’s naive of us to think it would help Self. KU whiffed in this class. And they really, really need to land a post player. They have a starting spot to give out next season, but nobody wants it. I’m hoping something shakes out this Spring.

Land quality coaches that can get you in recruiting areas unavailable to us before. Lindsey is born and bread out of Alabama. He has coached at several HS in Alabama. He should be able to get us a kid or two each year out of there, I'd expect.
I'm excited to see who's next on this staff. Les is 2 for 2 in my book.
Doke is a blessing and a curse. He makes Bill want to revert back to early 2000s basketball due to his efficiency. So, while Doke does put up good numbers, he brings basically everyone else's on the court down because Bill just wants the guards to feed the ball into the post 100 times a game.
We saw last night what this group can look like running 4 guards. It was better offensively and at times better defensively. We struggled to rebound the ball without Doke. But we also were able to get rebounds and turn them into easy points several times, so it was a bit of a toss up.
I'm hoping this stretch without Doke will get Bill's creative juices flowing and open his eyes a bit. He was able to retreat back into his comfort zone for a bit, but now is a period where we could see a lot of growth from him and others who will have to step up.
My hope is that we are able to morph this offense into a more guard oriented attack, and adapting it to a two big lineup that would allow us to start being a great offensive rebounding team. I was very encouraged by how well we played defensively last night, even while playing two bigs, that I don't worry about that too much now. It really is the offense that needs to get going. Specifically, turning Grimes and Garrett into offensive threats.
Last night was encouraging. I hope Doke is back sooner than later, but I really think the next few weeks without him will be a good growing experience for the entire team.

The guy does not care about basketball. He got paid after that season averaging 23 points and now he's done. He'll be a bench player as soon as he gets out of Minnesota. And then he'll be out of the league by the time he's 32. He will have most likely made over $200M by then, just playing basketball. Well over that if you include endorsement money. He is the person that people reference when they make the "contract year" argument or "never pay them top dollar."
It doesn't help that Thibs is the coach. And that they brought in A+ teammate Jimmy Butler. And A+ person Derrick Rose. And that they traded away Rubio for basically nothing, who was the person that made that offense go in 16-17.
Minnesota front office got impatient and ruined a good thing.
Quality hire if it comes to fruition.

@BeddieKU23 It's very concerning that this has been going on for years. When we have the size and length to really extend our D on the perimeter and force tough 2s over length. I really expected Bill to funnel opponents to the middle and dare them to shoot over Doke and Dedric this season.
@HighEliteMajor About the only thing I like about expanding the playoffs is your last point. It gives everyone a chance. Anyone can be a top 25 team and have their shot. UCF, Buffalo, Fresno St., Utah St., KU, etc.
It would create more excitement.

The guards can't shoot. Self is letting Vick shoot whatever he feels like. But, nobody else. That is a tell.
We need to ramp it up on the defensive end to make up for it at this point.

I do find it worisome that Self has reverted back to feed the post. But then you see what Doke and Dedric do and you can’t fault him. And to top it off, maybe our guards just can’t shoot outside of Vick and he’s protecting us. I don’t doubt he gives us the best chance to win each game and he has self awareness to know this teams diffecincies.

B10 had 3 second half comebacks last night to keep the ACC/B10 challenge at 3-3. Could have easily been 6-0. 6 more tonight, UNC @ Michigan the highlight of the night.
After stepping back and reevaluating this, I am ok with it. This is a simple and transparent tool that places teams within the quadrants for the seeding later on. So, playing a weak schedule hurts you even more, imo.
If you play a weak schedule, and win, the NET puts you up higher. If you are higher in the NET than you should be, you will be gifting other teams higher quality wins and sacrificing them yourself. Once this is broken out into quadrants, that is when the evaluation starts for seeding. They didn't seed teams based on RPI alone in the past and they won't with this either. As far as lumping teams in to quadrants, this seems like it will serve it's purpose just fine by season's end.
@kjayhawks I haven't watched the 2nd season yet. Not sure I will. I'll admit this was the perfect storm for a documentary to make it seem like he was innocent. But after reading about everything that was held out of the documentary to make them both look like they were innocent, it doesn't really make me want to watch the 2nd season.
Looks about right. B10 and B12 schedules look like gauntlets this season.
@kjayhawks This is the best article I've found to express my opinion. Neither should have been convicted based on the way the case was handled. But I'm also glad that Avery is in jail because he'd be doing this to others.
Football-wise, the NCAA only makes money from the playoffs basically. Hardly any from the other bowl games if any. Almost the entirety of their income is from TV rights to March Madness. Which is why they haven't cared about players getting paid under the table in the sport for so long...
It might end up a 15 point game, but I hope that it is at least entertaining for 30 solid minutes.
To me it just makes UT and Herman look like sad idiots.
