Tell them Bruce needs to quit being such a cheap ass.
@KUSTEVE I do love how butthurt Wisconsin fans were about losing him. They have to be real pissed after UK poached Herro too lol.
@Texas-Hawk-10 But his ability to extend plays and pickup 3rd downs that Bender has no chance at picking up on his feet will carry this offense further than Bender can. Kendrick also forces a spy, meaning one less guy in coverage.
We aren't going to pass the ball well no matter who is at QB. But one is clearly the better runner. Bender looks like a 5.5 40 yard dash.
Guy who blocked it is going to have to go into concussion protocol lol
Lol.
Hes a great take because he is probably coming in here not expecting to see time for a while. He isn't in any "big" recruits way for at least two seasons. His shooting is a great tool in modern basketball. He has already proven he can be a role player at both BVNW and on MoKan.
There is a lot to like. But I'm not saying he is the next Frank or Devonte until I see it. Those two are DUDES. But, I do agree that you have to trust the staffs assessment. They know what they're looking for.
@KUSTEVE That's why I think the staff took him. He offers a decent upside with a pretty high floor as well, as far as your 12th and 13th scholarship goes. I think the greater plan is to let Hudy do her thing with him, and have him primed to be a rotation guy in 2-3 years.
I also think the staff may be doing a great job of anticipating the OAD era ending. What is Duke and UK going to do in 2020? Self's roster looks primed already.
@Texas-Hawk-10 to me it just shows that this staff isn't seeing the obvious. It sends conflicting messages to a guy like Kendrick, who at some point has to ask himself what more he can do to win the spot.
@jayballer73 not a stanley fan myself.
Ochai a similar path, but probably a better chance at becoming "a guy" imo because he offers a physical frame that Braun doesn't offer.
Only way Braun ends up being "a guy" is if he ends up being 6'8. He's a prime redshirt candidate though. Dream scenario, he grows to at least 6'7, Hudy gets him to a solid/strong 190lbs, and he becomes a top tier stretch 4. Nearly a "point forward."
But if he is truly done growing, he probably tops out at a great role player that knows his role.
Of course Georgia doesn't just run the ball in behind that wall of an offensive line... The corner fade is the worst play in football.
Mizzous D is playing as well as they can ask for. Lock isn't the reason they will get blown out. He's going to be a decent NFL QB I think
They're still getting after it!! I'm super impressed. Just thought I'd bring attention to this again!
I go to KUSports.com for football stories and that's about it. I do like Tait, but I don't think he is overly plugged in or has great sources behind the scenes. I do think that the SB Nation site could eventually provide the same service if it did move to a sub model. Royals Review and Arrowhead Pride both provide great content. I'm sure Rock Chalk Talk could become a very similar community to those.
So, long story short, I do enjoy the content LJW provides on KU athletics, but I'd never pay for it.
@BShark @justanotherfan It was a close game the last time it was in Columbia, so it is definitely a good bet. I just don't think that Mizzou's D can stop Georgia. And so I think Georgia wins running away today. 49-27.
I do think KSU beats the spread. I bet they take the early lead, give it up in the 3rd quarter, and then keep it under three TDs to cover. Especially now that the line has moved all the way to 17.5.
With Bender starting, I give us a .01% chance of winning.
Fun facts for you guys.
Mike Gundy is 63% against the spread. Urban Meyer is 61%. Bill Snyder is 59%. Saban is 58%. Chris Petersen is 56%.
And that is why its so hard for me to pick against KSU today. Somehow old balls is going to keep it under 16 points....
I also love the O/U 58 on the Georgia v Mizzou game and the O/U 42 on the Wisconsin v Iowa game.
Alright, I sort of sucked last week. But I'm already 3/3 this week after last night, so I'm feeling good.
- PSU -28 v Illini +28 : Pick - PSU +28
- WSU v USC O/U 51 : Pick - Over
- UCF -14.5 v FAU +14.5 : Pick: UCF
I hit on all of those ^^^
Now for todays games I actually picked.
- Nevada v Toledo O/U 67 : Pick - Over
- Florida -4 v Tennesee +4 : Pick - Florida
- KSU v WVU O/U 58 : Pick - Over
- TCU -3.5 v UT +3.5 : Pick - TCU
- NIU ML +310 v FSU -400 : Pick - NIU
- Clemson - 16.5 v GT +16.5 : Pick - Clemson
Other good games that I like today:
- Georgia-15 v Mizzou +15 : Pick - Georgia
- North Texas - 13.5 v Liberty +13.5 : Pick UNT
- Tech v OSU O/U 76 : Pick - Over until it is in the mid 80s for tech lol.
- Kent St. v Ole MIss - 29.5 : Pick Ole Miss
- Notre Dame v Wake + 7.5 : Pick - Wake. NDs luck is about to run out
- Pitt -3.5 v UNC : Pick - Pitt
- Minn +2.5 v MD - Pick - Minn
@FarmerJayhawk I agree that they are probably the emotional "favorite", but once they sit down and do the pros and cons, I think the choice ends up being Oregon and a guaranteed 30+ MPG.
I think this stretches to at least December though. I don't think the choice has even been made at this point. UCLA has borderline NBA talent on their roster that is in the way. If Wilkes doesn't look like he is gone, I'm not sure that there is room for him. That roster has like 6 legit Wing players on it next season no matter what.
Bernard, Wilkes, Singleton, Smith, and Ali are all there right now. Adding Stanley would be 6. They have another top 100 wing coming in already. If neither Bernard or Wilkes is leaving, there isn't even a starting spot guarantee there imo. And maybe not even still if Ali is back for his senior season.
To me, just seems like a strange place to go.
KU is kind of in a similar boat, but there is easily 25 minutes to be had if Grimes shows out early that he is a OAD.
Oregon has nothing on that roster and he has a clear path to 30+ MPG.
But we'll see how it goes.
Boy, I'd think Oregon would be the favorite at this point. But that is just based on competition for PT. I just hope that this ends soon and doesn't get stretched into January trying to build up hype.
Well, we get our shot in a week.
@BeddieKU23 I think you're probably right. Not like his door is being beaten down by blue bloods. He is a good program guy for someone. But maybe just not quite our level.
Even if we miss, I'm not worried. Bill will land a top wing somehow. A guaranteed starting spot at a place that puts Wings in the NBA every single year is too tempting for someone.
USC just picked up another guy today, so at this point I think it is more than safe to say they're out.
I swear something is weird with him picking so early. Not his personality type to not drag this out as long as possible. It is either him trimming his list or it is him picking now because he wants to come in early. He is 19 years old already, and would be 20 by the time he got on campus next season. He HAS to show out in college next year if he wants to make it to the NBA. Would not be shocked to see him pull a Hamidou Diallo.
Fwiw, UCLA is 3 over right now, with no seniors. But they should have at least a couple of guys go pro out of that team. Still, getting 4 to leave seems like a stretch. PT seems like it could be a stretch if Ali and Wilkes are still there. Add in Jules Bernard to that group. I just don't see it.
USC is full on scholarships. Would have to force someone out or hope someone goes pro. But if that relationship is done, that's crazy to me. Much better chance at good PT there than UCLA or KU.
Oregon has scholarships available. PT available. I'd think they have to be the favorite upon further examination.
KU obviously has a scholarship available. They also potentially have a starting spot to offer him. But not as much PT as Oregon.
I don't know what the big deal is, it is just 3 mature nba players rationally talking things through.
@Crimsonorblue22 :+1:
Wonder if this is an early commit to try and get reclassed and enrolled at semester. Start practicing early and ball out next season
We are his only official set. Self may have closed it... I still am going into tomorrow with the thought that he is just cutting his list. I don't want to be faked out.
I don't know that I can think of a player in KU history to compare Braun to. Not like I'm calling him a freak or anything. He is just strangely athletic, where he fits somewhere in the middle of most KU recruits. He doesn't have a crazy vertical. But he still has hops. He shoots it great. His ballhandling is as good as any non PG recruit we've ever had here. Significantly better than Garrett's, imo. His vision is phenomenal.
To me, if he grows to 6'8, he is a legit NBA prospect and will end up being the steal of this class. If he stays at 6'5, who knows. He could end up being just a 4-year practice body, a role player like Tyrel Reed, or he could become the next Andy Rautins. But I do like his upside, which is about all you can ask from a guy ranked 100+ and taking up your 13th scholarship, knowing he is unlikely to see the floor a year from now.
Enfield was a hell of a hire for USC. And he has a great staff.
I don't know what the difference between this season's UK team is and last seasons? And they finished tied for 4th, and easily could have been 5th if Vandy didn't piss away a game that was in the bag.
@BShark UK is a 10 loss team again. IMO. SEC is much better this season than last.
I just started thinking about how good the SEC could be this season. The challenge is going to be really, really tough. SEC is probably the toughest conference in the country this season.
- LSU
- Tennessee
- UK
- Arkansas
- Auburn
- Alabama
- Vanderbilt
- Florida
- South Carolina
Those are the teams that I expect to make the tournament out of the SEC this season. With LSU, UT, UK, Auburn, and UF to be ranked all season long. There will be some seriously crazy games this year.
I think any of Auburn, LSU, UT, UK or Florida could win the SEC.
- UK - For obvious reasons, they are the favorites to win. They are deep and talented. However, they are still young. And they don't have the best player in CBB on their team. Something Cal has needed to succeed.
- UT - Won (tied) the SEC last season, and returned all but 6 points to that roster. They are legit. They are a top 5 team.
- Auburn - Nearly an identical description to Tennessee. They return everyone from a team that tied for the SEC championship. They are at least a Top 10 team again this season.
- Florida - Added a lot of talent. Top 25 PG, 69th (nice) ranked Wing, 80th ranked SG, 129th ranked Big man. They are probably the longest shot to win, but KeVaughn Allen and Jalen Hudson can carry a team certain nights. If a couple of their younger players step up this season, they will be tough to beat. Finished 3rd in the SEC last season, fwiw.
- LSU - Coming off of a 9th place finish in the SEC, you wouldn't expect much. Except for the fact that LSU brough in an amazing class this season. They will be able to roll out a starting 5 as good as anyone in the country this season. Naz Reid is a projected Top 5 pick, and made Big Dave look like a fool. He is a grown ass man and I don't know that anyone in CBB will be able to compete with him on either end besides Doke. Tremont Waters is one of the best PGs in the country, scoring 15 PPG last season. Emmitt Williams is a freak of an athlete, and will be a force when he wants to be. Skylar Mays is a returning double digit scorer who shot 35% from 3. And finally, the addition of Javonte Smart, a 6'4 PG, ranked 35th in the class, will allow this team to run and share the ball well.
I would think that KU will be throwing punches in that fight. A lot depends on our situation though. If we have Big Dave still, I think it will probably be hard to land him or any other OAD type of C prospect.
If Will Wade keeps landing guys like he has been, and I'd say he becomes a potential Blue Blood short list candidate. He has to show he can win at LSU still, but he is doing good things.
LSU is a sleeper to win SEC this season. They potentially have as good of a starting lineup as anyone.
Markell Hood has a nice stroke.
@justanotherfan I can't believe Maranatha is even open still...
If we land any of those assumed Memphis bound kids, you have to think the Lawson's had a big impact. And that Self knew they were 1000% worth the risk.
I do think the Charlie/Dotson combo is going to be great. All that will be asked of them is to pressure the hell out of the ball. I can already see our plethora of 6'5 wings denying the passing lanes, knowing that if they get beat backdoor the shot will have to be over a combo of Doke/Dedric/Mitch/Big Dave/Silvio. All of whom are capable shot blockers.
Fwiw, the 2008 team had 9 SPG and 5.8 BLK. That was 2nd and 5th in the country. I think this team should put up similar numbers. Probably more blocks and less steals. But still, dominating stats.
- Moore: .9 STL - 0 BLK
- Dotson: 1.3 STL - 0 BLK
- Grimes: .9 STL - .7 BLK
- Garrett: .9 STL - .2 BLK
- Vick: 1 STL - .3 BLK
- KJ: 1 STL - .7 BLK
- Dedric: 1 STL - 2 BLK
- De Sousa: - .1 STL - .5 BLK
- Doke: .5 STL - 2.5 BLK
- Mitch: .2 STL - 1 BLK
- Big Dave: .1 STL - .5 BLK
That is roughly 7.9 STL and 8.4 BLK per game. The above is based on numbers last year with some educated guesses based on previous BS players of similar statures at the same position. So while these numbers do seem high, I find think we will see them being a pretty realistic guess. We are just that friggen talented.
One of the things I've learned about recruits who end up exceeding expectations, is that they have the ability to use their opposite hand. For a guy Dotson's size, it is even more important than most. Having a strong left will help him to finish in the lane and be able to shield off defenders.
Dotson has a fantastic left hand.
He is going to be good. Real real good.
Well I won't be mad adding a developmental PG. Perfect time to add one if we don't think Dotson is going to be here 4 years.
Texas firing Rick Barnes looks so funny now
@dylans Basically.
Add in that the O-line sucks so bad that we can't stretch the field too much as is. Safeties are going to be in the box regardless of who is QB.
I think Stanley is in the bag and it's a done deal. We are his only visit scheduled right now.
That was a good listen
I might try to make it to a BVNW game
