@BShark Well, I can agree with that in a way. We did want him.
It would be really sad to miss JRE AND Williamson in this same class. Two solid recruits with major KU connections, you just can't miss on both.
Everyone's pipe dream is Venables. But he might be waiting for something else because he could have left Clemson already if he really wanted to be a HC. I don't understand Bill trying to force his son into that job. This isn't a family business lol.
I mean, Bellichick thinks he could do what he's done without Brady lol.
@BShark I agree with that, just in general. If they trade for Earl, I hope they sign him to a 3 or 4 year deal. It would be nice to have two spots with solid starters just penciled in. Especially when you look at the D next season and everything that needs to be addressed this offseason.
@Crimsonorblue22 For some reason, the best coaches always do. They aren't sentimental. Able to make decisions without getting feelings involved.
@justanotherfan I don't think we are one player away either, but I'd also like to see what the run D looks like after Berry comes back and we have a box safety that can tackle, as well as someone who can cover a TE.
From there, I think we can make a couple of moves. I mean even Branch is still a FA if we need a safety and don't want to give up anything. One who also knows the D... There are better options than a rental Earl Thomas probably. But I wouldn't be upset if it happened either. He is a playmaker and this D needs someone who can change games.
@justanotherfan It would be great timing to see Snyder step down after this season. Playing at KSU just doesn't have the same feel when you're not going their to play for a Legend. Could be one of those periods where KU becomes the local "powerhouse" again.
Well, I'd bet on an upset in Manhattan this weekend now. Type of Snyder move that somehow changes their entire season...
Does anyone know how effective Late Night really is? I’m just curious if this really is a better visit than 1 on 1s during an actual game? To me it seems weird. But we don’t have a ton of 2019 guys coming, so maybe it’s a great thing if a couple of them really hit it off.
@wrwlumpy we must think he would appreciate a visit on his own.
I don't know how I forgot that lol.
@BeddieKU23 right.
Just noticed that Precious Achiuwa hasn't set any visits yet. Seems strange that Duke and UK aren't involved there right? And with UConn the presumed leader? I don't know that Ollie will even be there in a year.
@BeddieKU23 He needs to completely rework his shot. He'd almost be better getting some G-League time where all he does is work on his jumper.
I just want to impress Wiseman. I know it's a pipe dream, but something in me is holding out hope still.
Decent read. Really hoping he can have a good season.
Do we know where this will be televised? ESPN+ I assume.
Doke is a legit footer. look how much taller he looks than Big Dave. I wonder if he grew at all while he was here.
Holy cow. Doke looks LEAN. Like in a good way. All muscle.
I think the Chiefs are waiting until the October Trade Deadline regardless. That way they can make a trade that only picks up about half of someone's salary, and you know that they are at least healthy 8 weeks in.
So making this move now would be reactionary imo. Let's see what this D looks like with Berry first. Because I'd be more interested in some other options now that I looked at who could be available from other teams. Like Matheiu from Houston and Claiborne from the Jets. We could probably get both of those guys at the deadline, which would be a better overall addition than just Earl Thomas, imo.
@JAYHAWKFAN214 THATS SERIOUSLY A BIG DEAL. I can’t belive they got him. Recruits are gonna freak.

I absolutely hate the rules. But the NFL can't have a season go by without creating some sort of ridiculous controversy based on rules they themselves created.
QBs just need to start wearing flags if they are so worried about them getting hurt and ruining the high scoring passing league they are trying to build. Already this season, Gabbert, Mariota, Taylor, Rodgers, Jimmy G and Bradford have gotten hurt. So the rules they are putting on the QB just aren't working. They either need to make that position non-contact or they need to just go back to 100% contact and having an iron man back there is just part of the deal. But this inbetween thing sucks
@KUSTEVE They try to make it so that there is a ton of scoring. But all it ends up being is dead air time. The game just keeps getting worse. CFB is at least still fun to watch for the most part.
Colquitt is going to have to take a pay cut lol
@BShark That would make sense.
@BShark I don't think he is going to pan out, but he is apparently playing well today
@stoptheflop Still hard to believe that he's on our team. Feels wrong as a Chiefs fan lol
Josh Allen having a day
Would take. I think a 3rd could get him. Worried about having to sign him to an extension though. But if Houston is here next season I'd be shocked.
@BShark I wish they were mute.
@JayHawkFanToo I fully agree that we should adopt a similar philosophy to Army, but not the same scheme.
Yesterday was a fluke.
If they play next week, OU could win by 50. Yesterday was Army's 1 in 100 chance at beating that OU team. And it still didn't happen.
So, as far as developing a philosophy that is similar to Army, I would agree. A run heavy, ball control, tempo control, damn near boring philosophy of football that sucks the air out of opposing stadiums, is a great idea for us.
But I do not want to run the Flexbone. I'd much rather see us move to the Pistol and use a combo of two running backs as @Texas-Hawk-10 stated earilier, that would give us the ability to create a similar type of misdirection though. This tweaked version of the spread is also more practical if you ever luck into a stud QB, as your playbook would stay the same and the only thing that would change is your play calls. This way, you can still go after the traditional QB from time to time, and if you land a Reesing you can sling it around with no issues. But most years, you can put a good athlete back there instead.
@Texas-Hawk-10 I didn't say that doing that would be my preference. Just that I'd be ok with it knowing it raises our floor a bit.
I know how good Duke is. Thanks.
I'd love to see us do basically what you said. Which is essentially the Oregon under Chip Kelly model. Minus the trying to snap the ball every 13 seconds of course. I love that model, and I think we could as you pointed out, recruit for it just fine. We can take a lot of the "rejects" with some physical flaws and make it work. It all revolves around getting athletes in space, creating a lot of misdirection, and eliminating a defender every play by reading them. Often, Oregon would read just the best player on the other team, completely eliminating them from every single play. If there is a LB that we can't block, we just read him. Freak DL that we would have to double every time? Nope. Just read him.
We are capable of being a team that you need to play disciplined assignment football against, even if it isn't flexbone.
Seriously have to wonder how this game turns out if Bender isn't starting. Only drive we scored on Kendrick saved after a holding penalty on the first play. I know he got hurt, but damn, coaches have to be blind to see how having a running QB adds a dimension to this team that Bender doesn't.
Bender's only drive we had a chance at scoring on came from a Roughing the passer. And then Bender took a sack to lose 9 yards and put us at borderline FG range.
It isn't even close to a decision. I hope he can get healthy and start next week.
@kjayhawks it does get to what HEM has been saying. But they also lost to Duke early this year, handily. Georgia Tech is exactly what we would look like if we moved to that.
I wouldn't be opposed, I just think it would be a tough sell to boosters with money who dream of us somehow winning a NC. And by committing to the flexbone, we would basically be saying we are ok winning 6 games every season, but never winning more than 10. Which means you can't win a NC.
@wissox Maybe next season is your season. The QB and RB are sophomores right?
Well, Beaty might as well start packing up his office.
@DanR Never forced to take a penalty. That was a coaching mistake
@wissox and that is why Beaty won't keep his job lol. It isn't just the product on the field. It is all the "WTF" moments that happen during a game
@stoptheflop They beat Northwestern last week. And Northwestern isn't awful.
@stoptheflop Akron is a really good team
And I'll be happy to admit I was wrong if today goes well.
@Texas-Hawk-10 We certainly aren't winning a track meet with anyone in the B12 into the 30s. And we aren't scoring 5 TDs no matter who is at QB.
I don't think we win a B12 game. The debate is who gives you the best chance at winning. Or, realistically speaking, keeping a game close. The QB who can give us the most time of possession is the QB who will give us the best chance at winning a B12 game. That player is Kendrick.
The problem with Wigs was not him doing what the coaches asked. It was always him doing what he was capable of doing.
@Crimsonorblue22 I think him coming here was big for us. But, he was a legit 6'8 with a 40+ inch vertical. He could have had a line of 25 ppg, 8 RBD, 2 STL, 2 BLK if he gave 100% effort. He is a generational type of athlete. He did what he did here without even trying. Being successful without giving 100% effort is not a motivating thing though. It definitely hurt his development imo.
@Texas-Hawk-10 Still 6 yards better per rush than Bender. In limited time, better Y/A from Kendrick. An avoided sack is the difference between a long drive and a punt. The only way we upset anyone is ball control and extending drives that eat clock. Bender isn't going to do that. Even if we score more points with Bender, they aren't as meaningful because they are going to come from quick strikes that put the D right back on the field.
We are more likely to win a game where the offense scores 21 points and limits possessions than a game we score 35 with a ton of possessions. Bender is not going to take us for long drives and win the field possession battle.
Everyone said Reed was the best Dunker on those teams lol
Wiggs is a great example of a failed OAD system. He would have been served much better going straight to the NBA. He basically spent a year as a trust fund kid and could have cared less about the year he spent in Lawrence. Ended up going into the NBA with just a backwards mindset.
You have to wonder how many idiot Nebraska fans already want Frost fired.
