@BShark Johnathan Jackson a guy?

Seems like a 4 year project with upside too.

Recruiting Thread • Feb 20, 2018 06:13 PM

@BShark What about Malik Hall?

Recruiting Thread • Feb 20, 2018 06:07 PM

@BShark Wouldn't that be something special? A group of kids with love for KU... Man that would be amazing. If that group had any success they would probably go down as one of the most loved KU team of all-time. Love local guys.

@BeddieKU23 Follow the money....

Wouldn't be shocked to see two of 3 make it out of USC, UCLA and Washington. And somehow St. Bonnies won't make it because of some stupid Quadrant thing...

Also, in ESPN's bracket, I would rather see several of the 6 or 7 seeds than the 8/9 seeds at the moment. If this were really how it played out, I'd be kind of pissed.

Also, if KU wins out the Big XII title outright, don't we deserve to win the MidWest 1 seed over Xavier? Of course I'm biased.

As long as the FBI probe doesn't reach KU, I fully expect Bill to start bringing in monster classes from here on out. Next seasons is just a taste imo. If the FBI probe doesn't reach us, it means we can recruit without both hands tied behind our backs finally and we can quit losing out on heavy KU leans.

This team with Sexton? a couple less losses. This team with Ayton? surefire top 3. This team with Ayton and Sexton? FUHGETABOUTIT.

But alas, it looks as if we didn't cheat and therefore are watching two players perform at high levels in different uniforms. This season, more than any other season I can remember, will be the "what could have been" season.

Anyways, I think Bill will keep Dante "in state." It'll be a fight, but I think Bill has too good of a resume with African bigs to miss on this fella. Get him on the phone with JoJo and I think we can seal the deal.

Langford • Feb 19, 2018 09:03 PM

@BShark Can they tell us what players Self is telling them won't be back? Lol.

Hosmer to Padres? • Feb 18, 2018 07:00 PM

@Fightsongwriter or someone who can actually develop starting pitchers...

Royals main problem is development imo. We develop batters with terrible approaches and pitchers that can't do anything but throw 98 mph fastballs. At some point we need to ask ourselves what the problem is. Is it drafting or development? Could be a mixture of both.

Langford • Feb 18, 2018 06:45 PM

@Statmachine really depends on what Vicks camp is thinking. Does a return actually improve his stock? They might be ready to move on and start getting paid to play

Hosmer to Padres? • Feb 18, 2018 06:42 PM

If this is handled right, I'll be glad we didn't spend the money. Let the rebuild begin, and a commitment to building a strong organization top to bottom. Replenish the farm system, don't trade away promising prospects for short erm success and start building a dynasty. We should model ourselves after the Cardinals. This is a great new challenge for Dayton, and it starts with 5 picks in the first two rounds.

Recruiting Thread • Feb 15, 2018 08:36 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 I do not want Scott Pollard anywhere near the program in an official capacity.

@JayHawkFanToo The Adidas reps committed textbook fraud. They concealed the payments as something else on official books. Super, super illegal.

I don't know about the coaches accepting payments, or the players, or the parents, or the suit makers or anyone else involved. I'm sure they all at least committed tax and wire fraud.

I think the reason most people don't feel that a crime was committed was because it was basically a victim-less crime. Nor do people feel much empathy towards the NCAA currently, who is probably the main victim of the scheme. (One could argue the NCAA is the beneficiary of the scheme too I suppose).

I think Civil suits will follow after the criminal trials are finished. And rightfully so.

I'm mostly upset that the FBI is wasting time and money following a CBB bribery scheme when they could be following up on tips about school shootings or other potential crimes that cause real harm to a lot more people.

Things could be worse • Feb 15, 2018 06:13 PM

@BShark Have to win Saturday imo. Otherwise the losing streak probably gets to 6 and this team just completely folds it in.

@RockkChalkk Part of the reason I think they made this case so public was because I figured it was a slam dunk and they needed a win.

But nothing is ever a slam dunk when rich guys with great lawyers are involved.

Things could be worse • Feb 15, 2018 05:53 PM

I mean, I love seeing UK lose. And they legitimately could miss the tournament if they lose on Saturday. But Cal isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

I am really excited to see what happens with Gabriel, Vanderbilt, Richards and Washington though. They could be horrible next season if they don't keep 3 out of those 4.

Boy oh boy, FBI would look bad if no conviction came from this. That would be a lot of tax payer money wasted on, in the whole scheme of things, meaningless crimes. Unless the NCAA is bankrolling the FBI somehow? That is the only part of this that doesn't make sense to me. Why does the FBI care about college basketball?

Did these guys commit fraud? Absolutely. Should they go to prison? No. Though, because I believe precedence is set, some of these guys will be convicted and go to prison. Wasting tax payer money on something most tax payers couldn't care less about.

@BShark "Recruiting Liason" sounds nice. He can pick up star recruits in a Limo from the airport and then stop in KC for a nice dinner before they head to Lawrence. Face to face time with a HOFer would be amazing.

Recruiting Thread • Feb 15, 2018 03:01 PM

@BeddieKU23 This recruitment is going to drag out for two more months at least. Vandy rolling out the red carpet in February doesn't worry me.

Recruiting Thread • Feb 14, 2018 07:20 PM

Just purely looking at stats, Dedric would be the best player on our team by a mile. Of course the competition he played was not near the level he will face next season. But even in his games against good or P5 teams, he put up numbers. 35 on Iowa. 26 on Oklahoma. 21 on Cincinnati. 19 on South Carolina. 19 on Providence.

Basically, if Dedric is motivated he dominates.

Recruiting Thread • Feb 14, 2018 07:12 PM

@dylans Dedric had a 27 PER. Would be 2nd on the team this year. He had a 28.6% usage rate. Would be first on the team this year. So, on a crazy amount of touches he was crazy efficient.

Next season's post play may be the most efficient 1-2 punch to ever play next to each other under Bill Self. Between Doke and Dedric, we should get close to 35ppg and we should get it at a 50% fg percentage.

Dedric also had a Defensive rating of 95.5, which would be the best on this year's team.

Recruiting Thread • Feb 14, 2018 06:52 PM

@Big-Clyde52 I kind of think that the 4th post spot will be between Silvio and KJ.

KJ rebounds the ball like a grown ass man. And he is a huge mismatch offensively as a stretch 4. Makes me think post rotation will be Doke, Dedric, Lightfoot and KJ.

Recruiting Thread • Feb 14, 2018 06:47 PM

@hawkmoon2020 I do not expect Vick, Cunliffe or Newman to return. I also believe that Bill will turn KJ into a stretch 4 instead of a Wing.

Recruiting Thread • Feb 14, 2018 05:33 PM

@BeddieKU23 Doubtful.

But I think we have this one in the bag imo. If there is PT, Langford is a Hawk. Just say the magic words Bill. "I guarantee you a starting position." And then uncross your fingers and mumble under your breath so you feel better "if you earn it."

Recruiting Thread • Feb 14, 2018 05:00 PM

O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?
Deny thy Commadores and refuse thy game.
Or if thou wilt not, be but signed to a letter
And no longer be a Hoosier threat.
‘Tis but thy loaded 2018 roster that is thy enemy:
Thou art thyself, though not a Hawk.
What’s Hawk? It is nor handles nor jumper
Nor dunk nor steal nor any other move
Belonging to a OAD. O be some other game.
What’s in a game? That which we call a dunk
By any other name would sound as sweet;
So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call’d,
Retain that dear perfection which he owes
Without that title. Romeo, doff thy game,
And for that game, which is no part of thee,
Take Allen Fieldhouse.

FBI just dropped charges on Adidas AAU guy that they caught red handed. I mean literally they gave this guy $12k in cash. Makes me think that he turned on some people to save his own ass.

That would be my scary worst-case scenario.

What a freaking coup would it be to land Langford already?

@Texas-Hawk-10 Do you have a scholarship chart somewhere?

All I can see is we signed 22 last year and 20 so far this season with 1 early enrolled player.

@Texas-Hawk-10 We still have 6 scholarships available this season. If we have no HS prospects left, it only makes sense. (Potentially 8 if we can somehow squeeze in two more early enrollees). I mean, put yourself in Beaty's shoes. Only way he keeps his job after this season is wins. He probably isn't landing a HS kid that can contribute next season. So his only hope is to bring in as many D1 ready bodies as possible and pray that a few of them can actually play some damn football.

Is the right move for the program to bring in 6 HS projects? Absolutely. But that just isn't the scenario that we are in right now. We have a coach that is just desperately trying to win games at this point. A coach that we can't fire because then no good coach in their right mind would come here so they can ruin there careers in 3 quick seasons. But, by keeping Beaty, we probably decimate our roster all over again and continue the cycle.

I don't know what the solution is. I just know what I would do if I was in Beaty's shoes.

The only reason whatsoever I say to go after grad transfers at all is so that we fill some depth. We have open scholarships and no depth. This is a pretty consequence free way to build depth imo.

@BShark Can't you just let me have the dream?

Just looking at a list of Possible Grad Transfers, there are players to be had. I'd try bringing in at least 1 QB. Jacob Park or Wilton Speight. Both have had a little bit of success at a P5 level. Keller Chryst is transferring from Stanford lol.

I really think bolstering the roster with Grad transfers is the best way to go. Take as many that want to come as possible. It effects recruiting none whatsoever and at least gives you bodies. If you take 10 of them and 3 pan out, it was a great strategy.

https://gradtransfertracker.com/potential-transfers/ ↗

Can't be upset with the class. The uncertainty surrounding Beaty forced him to go the JUCO route for multiple reasons. 1, he couldn't land recruits because they weren't sure if he would be there. 2, he needs to win some games this season or he will be looking for a new job. Let's hope we can be active on the grad transfer market and bring in a few more guys that can play now. If we have any open scholarships that would be a great way to fill them for 1 season.

Either way, KU football can only go up from where it's at. Either Beaty succeeds or we have a scenario where I think Beaty has done enough on the recruiting front to help whoever may be the next coach.

NBA Trade Deadline • Feb 08, 2018 09:45 PM

@justanotherfan I think on Paper, they got better. But trying to get on the same page midseason isn't going to be an easy task.

Recruiting Thread • Feb 08, 2018 09:44 PM

I'd take another T-Rel!

Recruiting Thread • Feb 08, 2018 09:13 PM

Really been loving our recruiting for 2018. Seems like we are getting guys that want to play for the name on the front of the jersey instead of the back. Big Dave clearly has his head on straight. Dotson and Grimes fell in love with KU. Ochai seems to be level-headed. It's fantastic.

Add that group plus Jacobs in 2019 and we have been, it seems at least, prioritized high character kids over talent. Of course some of these guys obviously have both. But I'm really liking this wave of future Jayhawks we have coming in.

NBA Trade Deadline • Feb 08, 2018 07:31 PM

I have never seen anything like this. A team basically starting over from scratch halfway through the season. Craziness.

Recruiting Thread • Feb 08, 2018 03:57 PM

@BShark Wow. So Cunliffe has the writing on the wall. I don't think signing him impacts Langford still. At least in theory. I mean if Vick and Newman both leave, the path is till paved for him.

@jaybate-1.0 I'd love to have Williams on our team. He'd be our best defender.

Also, somehow, he'd still have the worst haircut despite Vick apparently getting struck by lighting on his way to AFH.

Any Win Is A Good Win • Feb 07, 2018 05:56 PM

I am still seeing the upside of this team when they play. The conference tourney is a month away from today. We are playing our best defense of the season right now. Bill has started pushing buttons and pulling strings to get all 4 of our guards to play at a high level. Not to mention, we have seen growth from Doke, Garrett and Lightfoot seemingly every game.

Imagine, a team where we are active on D like we have been 3 of the past 4 games. But, they also make wide-open shots and exploit mismatches like they can. Vick and Newman are both talented enough to shoot 45% from the field. If they can start to do that, this team will start cruising to victories. One more month of tweaks. Bill already got Newman to break out of his shell. If he can work the same magic on Vick, I'm not sure anyone can beat this team.

Any Win Is A Good Win • Feb 07, 2018 05:34 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 Well we all have our opinions. A lot easier to play good D when you put up 40 in the first half , shots are falling and you are actually getting to the free throw line. That keeps teams from getting out in transition. I mean, from what I remember, KSU had plenty of open looks too. They just didn't make them.

We were far more active last night jumping lanes than in the KSU game. We forced 12 turnovers compared to only 7 against KSU. We also held TCU to .402 from 2pt, which is solid.

@drgnslayr I didn't like Svi's matchup last night tbh.

Williams can hang with him in and out and is one of the better defenders in the league.

You wouldn't be saying anything about it if Malik goes 4-9 from the field and Vick goes1-3 from 3. We would have cruised to an easy 10-15 point win.

Svi had been the player with the favorable matchup the past several games. Teams have been putting 4s on him and he exploited that.

Last night, TCU decided to take Svi out of the game. But Vick had a favorable matchup as did Newman. One, or both, of those guys needs to be able to score. Combined last night, those two went 4-18 from the field and 0-8 from 3. That is the problem. This team needs the Vick from the beginning of the season to show back up. And the conference play Newman to stay hot.

Any Win Is A Good Win • Feb 07, 2018 04:41 PM

The effort on D was good last night! This team can either get crushed inside or give up 3s. But there is no way for us to not allow both. That was the best defensive game we have probably played imo. The other team just made the open shots.

I did like the way we started with Lightfoot and Doke. It set the tone to start the game.

I do feel like we don’t get enough steals from jumping passing lanes on switches and I saw some serious confusion from guys last night on whether they should switch or not and that lead to several open layups. But, If that gets cleaned up and this team continues to play defense like it did last night we can beat anyone.

Recruiting Thread • Feb 06, 2018 08:19 PM

@HighEliteMajor I think, in my dream scenario, Moore wouldn't play for two reasons. One, Grimes is a PG at the NBA level and has the skillset to play the position. Two, I don't see a scenario where we have those 4 players, and they don't play basically all of the backcourt minutes available. No knocks on Moore. I think he will be a fine player and a great backup PG. But in my opinion, those 4 players are going to be so lights out that we can't afford to have more than 5 minutes a game without having 3 of them on the court at once.

Like I said at the end, someone would have to come off of the bench. I don't know if it would be Newman, Dotson, Grimes or Langford. But someone would have to.

I also think we will have a unfair bias against De Sousa from this season. He was put in a position to fail. HCBS doesn't trust Freshmen bigs as is. I don't know how he would've gained any trust in a month and a half. But, I think De Sousa will be ahead of Big Dave just from this semester experience. Learning to compete day in and day out is as hard as anything these guys have to learn. I've also watched David play against Vernon Carey. Big Dave is so far away from being able to play against P5 competition. He still has 20 lbs to lose and he needs to learn how to play D without fouling. He is a major project with major upside. But next year isn't going to be when we see him. At least from what I have seen.

Recruiting Thread • Feb 06, 2018 07:22 PM

I also think that if Newman wants to stay and Agbaji wants to come, Cunliffe will get forced out.

I'm not sure how Newman factors in to the Langford decision though. I would think Newman returning would mean no Langford. But if I'm Self, I'm basically begging Langford to come and telling him he is going to get 30 mpg.

In a perfect world where we keep Newman and land Langford:
- PG: Dotson - 28 mpg, Grimes 12 mpg
- SG: Grimes - 20 mpg, Newman 15 mpg, Garrett 5 mpg
- SF: Langford - 30 mpg, Newman 10 mpg
- PF: Lawson - 20 mpg, Lawson/Lightfoot/De Sousa - 20 mpg
- C: Doke - 25 mpg, Lawson, 10 mpg, De Sousa/Lightfoot/Dmac - 5 mpg

Of course someone would have to be ok coming off of the bench in that scenario. And we would really have to buy into the team concept.

Recruiting Thread • Feb 06, 2018 07:04 PM

There is always a way of making room for players. If Langford comes, Vick is gone. And I think at this point, it is in that order.

Self should be telling the Langford family that he will start and to not worry about Vick.

If Langford commits, say goodbye to Vick.

Pro Jayhawk updates • Feb 06, 2018 06:42 PM

@BeddieKU23 Phoenix just has no idea how to utilize their roster.

Booker at PG, JJ at 2, Warren at 3. Their 3 best players are all playing out of position currently.

And instead of them drafting a PG this year, we all know they will draft Porter Jr or Jaren Jackson because they love 6'8 athletes too much.

B Greene • Feb 06, 2018 06:12 PM

@BeddieKU23 I'm sure it will get plead down.

B Greene • Feb 06, 2018 05:30 PM

Almost amazing how dumb some guys can be. All the potential to have had a career like James Jones or Mike Miller where he is on an NBA roster just to shoot 3s at the end of quarters or games.

Hint, if you have an expired tag or license, definitely don't speed.

Also, not that the charge is distribution of marijuana. That isn't the same as possession. It is much worse. Distribution is a felony and stays on your record for the rest of your life.

"Fool's Gold vs Bill Self" • Feb 06, 2018 03:44 AM

I think Bill is waiting to go zone until the 2nd weekend in March or perhaps if we struggle our second game. I think he’s done showing it the rest of this season if he can help it. It’s his ace up his sleeve right now.

The zone is the only thing that I’ve seen this team do well defensively.

Exodus begins • Feb 05, 2018 09:08 PM

@KUSTEVE he is 29 and we are probably 5 years away from being competitive. That would be my reason for trading him. His value will
Never be higher than it is now. So if we think we are 5 Years from being competitive we should capitalize on that.

Is the Phog losing its Phogginess? • Feb 04, 2018 02:52 PM

I think it's a little quieter ever since they took some of the students seats away.
