@JayHawkFanToo Preston had the stink of desperation after the Ayton miss. Probably wouldn't have touched him with a 10 foot poll otherwise. And forced him into an early commitment so they could actually see what the hell they were dealing with academically and get him eligible. They did the academic part, but always knew he was a risk. Part of the reason I think the compliance department even looked into the car was because they knew they needed to be extra careful with BP.

Duke saying no eligibility concerns with Wendell Carter. Lolz. I almost want them to win it all now just to vacate it later.

I'm so tired of seeing KU players end up in Sacramento....

@drgnslayr And Cliff. And Diallo.

Rumors Peters is on the block. • Feb 23, 2018 08:04 PM

@JayHawkFanToo Slot CBs. Not as good outside. Elite quickness though. And solves something that has been killing the Chiefs. Been getting crushed out of the slot.

Berry can take out TEs again when he is back, and Fuller can control slot receivers. IMO, Chiefs D is going to be significantly better than last seasons.

They also signed David Amerson to an incentive laden deal. He has had seasons of brilliance, but sucked last year.

With that being said, they need to get another CB in free agency or the draft. Maybe both if I'm being honest. The offense is not an issue for at least 2 more years. Time to build up the D.

Rumors Peters is on the block. • Feb 23, 2018 07:50 PM

@justanotherfan Agreed. Better be 1st this year, and at least the 3rd.

However, I would prefer a 1st and a 2nd next season. I think it will be a 3 pick combo.

I am glad that they are doing it now because they can at least focus on what they need to at the combine and draft. I would have been happy with Peter's staying 100%. But it is Clarke's team and he didn't want Peters.

The main reason I like it, Chiefs aren't letting the players drive the car anymore. You bring up Kelce, but Kelce is good for business. And he shows up for voluntary training camps. And he doesn't fight with coaches. Peter's behavior was troublesome on many levels. We need to start acting like the Patriots and Steelers if we want to make a Superbowl.

Even if it isn't Trumaine Johnson who gets signed to replace him, there are several solid CBs left on the market this year that can be brought in.

@mayjay lol wut?

@HighEliteMajor I said before, Townsend is the guy that recruited damn near any sketchy player the entire time under Self. And I think that is on purpose. Either he is the fall guy or he is trusted enough by Self to not do something stupid.

@JayHawkFanToo The NCAA has zero to do with the OAD rule.

You are proposing a solution that the NCAA is not in control of. The FBI is not in control of. Only the NBA. And the NBA, because of that rule, gets a free developmental league. So why would they give that up?

@BigBad NFL gave up tax-exempt status. And the feds are still getting player income tax and the individual teams income. They do not get taxes from individual schools or the scholarships students are paid in from colleges. Which is a much bigger pie than anything else out there right now. Think about ten thousand kids. Think 100 athletic programs making tens of millions in profit.

The FBI wouldn't be going after the NCAA's money. They would be going after individual schools athletic programs money. Money that could be touched if they became 100% private, non-sheltered entities.

Rumors Peters is on the block. • Feb 23, 2018 06:29 PM

Oh. Trumaine Johnson a FA though. Could be a huge coup. Chiefs sign Johnson, get the Rams 1st rounder... Basically trade Peters for an equal CB, 1st round pick, 3rd round pick and only add some salary that would have been spend in a couple of seasons on Peter's anyways.

This wheeling and dealing is beautiful. Chiefs traded for Franchise QB last year and still will probably have 10 or 11 picks to work with this season. THIS IS WHAT BUILDING A SUPERBOWL TEAM LOOKS LIKE LADIES AND GENTS!!

@Buster-1926 The incompetence at the NCAA makes the Feds look like geniuses...

Rumors Peters is on the block. • Feb 23, 2018 06:21 PM

Peters to the Rams.Better return a 1-3rd round pick and a starter level player.

@Buster-1926 Could be.

Maybe you are on to something though.

Conspiracy theory: FBI could be attempting to overthrow the NCAA and NCAA is too dumb to realize it is happening. Make the NCAA look like idiots and the bad guy. This forces schools to quit hiding their athletics department under the umbrella of a nonprofit and turns them into private organizations is potentially billions in tax revenue per year. Not to mention the double-taxation of athletes being paid in the light of day instead of behind closed doors.

Genius if this is what is actually going on.

@JayHawkFanToo Why are we pretending it isn't that right now? You have even been one of the people saying that they think these charges are a stretch. If they don't stick, what is going to keep players from taking the biggest paydays they possibly can from here on out?

Why do you want to continue to force athletes to go to school when that only brings down that academic standards that colleges are supposed to uphold?

Professional sports are using colleges. Colleges should turn the table and use the platform they have established, and are forced to have by profiting from it as much as possible.

Allonzo Trier • Feb 23, 2018 05:03 PM

Yea from what I've read/heard this seems like he will be back. But, who knows. Arizona looked fine without him last night.

@JayHawkFanToo This effects the NBA exactly 0 amount. The only thing that would make them adopt the baseball model is on court performance, player development (or lack there of), and ROI.

Why would the NBA change the rule because of this?

Now, I'm not in favor of paying players, but only because then we would have to pay all NCAA athletes. And that makes no sense to me. And I think it would bankrupt athletics departments all over the country.

However, I am in favor of creating a private organization that licenses out the names of universities, "rents" their facilities and pays players. The players would also have the option of applying the funds they receive to a reduced tuition rate at that school instead of receiving their entire salary in cash.

@mayjay Something like that might work. They need to change the culture before they change anything else.

@BShark That Deadspin Article is exactly how I feel about this. FBI is trying to shake more things out.

I think the NCAA is more in damage control mode than they are attack mode lol.

Someone in that office is running around "WHO TIPPED THE FBI OFF?! Son of B. Sht Sht Sh*t. How are we going to spin this? How are we going to fix this?"

There is no way the NCAA wanted the FBI to do this. This puts way too much pressure on the NCAA to investigate 100 programs and dole out fair punishments to all of them without pissing off one school because they got a harsher penalty than another. It'll be 10 years before they get to the bottom of all of this too more than likely.

@mayjay great ideas. That is exactly what they need to do. Find a way to create transparency and crush anyone who does things behind closed doors.

@wissox or when a players parent is "running their recruitment" all it means to me is that they are taking payments and the highest bidder is where they end up.

That is what worries me about JJ the most. I just hope we don't hear of a Kansas coach being involved. We can't help that we are such a good program that people pay players to come here.

Of course, that is probably a bit of an ignorant thought on my end. It will all come down to the levels of deniability. I just hope we don't hear about Self going to dinner with agents.

@BShark I thought Jay was clean. However, his recent success has been unprecedented.

I thought Izzo was clean until last week with the other scandal. Now, this is making a lot of sense. He got tired of being a bad recruiter... His recruiting did pick up a ton lately and I always wondered how. Figured Nike was paying players to go. Now the picture is becoming more clear. His legacy will likely be tarnished. I don't expect him back at MSU next season at this point.

@mihawk I think it would be an organization comprised of the 100 schools. Basically, what I would envision, a Senate style of deal. Every school has 1 representative. They decide things based on votes. Every school has equal say. No separate TV deals like the LH Network. A United Athletics Programs of America. This will come after the Declaration of NCAAdependece is written. The NCAA will attempt to stop this by declaring war and cutting off supplies sent to the schools. Only to find that the schools, by bonding together, became stronger than the British, I mean NCAA.

They do say history repeats itself...

@BShark link?

@dylans Bill has over and over when any question arises. Even when Bragg was innocent last season, he sat him.

@BeddieKU23 Duke, UK and Bama almost HAVE to sit those guys now right?

@kjayhawks That's basically based on them submitting transcripts, checking boxes and then literally, saying you didn't accept any money.

I was cleared in less than two weeks when I applied in HS. Kind of a joke tbh.

@mihawk Agreed. And if you pissed off these schools enough, what is keeping them from starting their own P5 tournament and making ALL of the revenue?

The more I think, the more I am becoming a fan of the P5 conferences to just start their own organization. They can privatize the athletics departments 100% and keep Title IX out of the discussion. I think it would solve a lot of the current NCAA problems. The NCAA is hypocritical in the fact that they don't give 2 craps about the education the athletes receive. Only the money the athletes generate. They don't hold schools accountable for anything academically (as proven by UNC). How a player like Duvall can academically qualify at a school like Duke blows my mind. They couldn't care less. And their lies the problem.

The NCAA Mission Statement: "Our purpose is to govern competition in a fair, safe, equitable and sportsmanlike manner, and to integrate intercollegiate athletics into higher education so that the educational experience of the student-athlete is paramount."

The NCAA is not even following it's own mission statement. Which is why people do not respect them.

Let's call a spade a spade and privatize revenue producing college athletics so players can get paid in a transparent way since it is happening anyways.

The NBA is the one causing this with the OAD imo. So, the NCAA needs to start thinking outside of the box on rules to prevent this. Idk if maybe they require players to graduate or else they have to pay back the entire amount? Does that help? Can they themselves offer players loans up to a certain dollar amount per year? What about paying players based on academics? Every semester you complete, you get paid $2k. If they offer these incentives, they can make the punishments more harsh I think.

They need to make it an environment that players and parents don't feel like they need to go to agents to get extra cash. I'm not sure exactly how to do that, but there are brighter minds than me that could help to solve the problem.

@mayjay Right. I'm saying they need to slap everyone on the wrist, but don't try to make everyone the example. They need to find that sweet spot of a hefty fine, but probably no sanctions. They can put everyone on a "probation" period.

@HighEliteMajor Lol even still. These amount wouldn't have vacated wins.

Unless Bill or a coach orchestrated the loans through Miller, I don't expect us to get hit with anything based on this report alone.

The report is underwhelming, even if you include NCAA violations that could be put on schools from it.

Finally, the NCAA needs to be careful right here. If they try to make a point and crush all of these schools, that might be all of the P5 needs to just up and leave the NCAA and start pocketing all the money themselves.

@mayjay Looks like it was Feb/Mar of 2016. So he would still have been a recruit.

Still, to me, this is such a small amount it won't be a big deal. Sexton's dad took $10k and still got to play basically all season. NCAA penalty was like 5 games or something weak like that.

Lol these amounts are WEAK AF. This is Yahoo's big bomb?

@HighEliteMajor Meh. Big nothingburger as far as KU is concerned still. That was about as vague as it possibly could be. It gave out all of the hard information that it gathered listing Bridges (YAY!), Abedayo (YAY!), Smith Jr , Fultz, Wendell Carter (YAY!)

But still no KU player. Mentions KU as possibly, but again, no hard facts. Not even a player they mention.

And all of it doesn't matter if KU didn't know the player had received payments.

Rumors Peters is on the block. • Feb 22, 2018 03:49 PM

@justanotherfan Equally troublesome is not true. Peter's is driving fans away and causing tickets not to be sold with his protesting on top of the tantrums and penalties he has been getting. He is the double whammy that I wouldn't blame an owner for wanting to get off of his team.

Hosmer to Padres? • Feb 21, 2018 10:29 PM

Lol sorry guys... I should be more sensitive to the nostalgic. I could have waited until the season started at least haha.

I just don't want to watch another 30 years of bad baseball while Frank White rambled on just trying to fill air time because the game was 10-2 and we were putting in our 4th reliever already in the 5th inning.

Hosmer to Padres? • Feb 21, 2018 09:48 PM

@Buster-1926 I hope Ned moves on after this season. Just would hate to see him ruin his Royals legacy by hanging on to the game for too long. Should ask Dayton to be moved into a different role in the front office or something if he wants to still be around the game.

Rumors Peters is on the block. • Feb 21, 2018 09:42 PM

@justanotherfan Difference is that Kelce isn't making scenes on the sidelines, or "alienating the fan base."

I 100% agree with everything you said. But that isn't the perception of most unfortunately... Might cost KC a solid CB.

Hosmer to Padres? • Feb 21, 2018 07:47 PM

@Buster-1926 So we have 1 first round pick. We then have 2 compensatory picks immediately following the first round. Then a 2nd round pick. It looks as if Moose will not break $50M. So instead of a 1st round compensatory pick , the Royals will receive another pick after the 2nd round. Probably like pick 80.

Still, that brings us to 6 picks out of the first 100ish players. This year's draft is the most important of Dayton's life. He needs to hit on at least 3 of these picks. Hopefully he can get 4 of the 6 to pan out in some form or fashion. I would like to see us get 2 position players, a starting pitcher and a solid relief pitcher out of this draft.

The reason this is so important of a draft is because the Royals have hardly any remaining International Signing Bonus money. Only $300k left. So the only thing we can do is continue to sign very young players and develop them ourselves. We couldn't afford the next big Cuban star or Japanese player that wants to come over because we couldn't pay them well enough. No way to get an instant starter for cheap basically.

Still, this is a good way to jump start the rebuild. Duffy, Whit, Herrera and Salvy should all probably get shipped off while they have value.

The only player that I would be ok with them holding on to is Duffy, because it is hard to find talented starting LHP. Also the reason he would be so valuable on the trade market....

If we unloaded everyone, and drafted well over the next 3 years, we could be producing a winning product in about 5 or 6 seasons.

  • Salvy - Could fetch 3 or 4 solid prospects. His contract is great and he plays a ton of games. Right in his prime. Gold Glover. Should get a great return if we let him go.
  • Whit - Could fetch a good starting pitching prospect at the deadline.
  • Duffy - Would only trade for a deal similar to what we got for Greinke. Would need 3 guys all but MLB ready players, one of them being a very promising pitching prospect.
  • Herrera - Would give up for 1 solid position player.

That would be a potential 8-10 prospects if we went full tank mode. Probably 3-4 of them would be pitchers and we can build from there. I just don't see any reason to keep these guys who are all 27-28 years old just so we can lose for the next 5 seasons and by the time we have talent at the MLB level again, these guys are in decline on huge contracts. Sell them cheap, get a great return on them, and build a beast of a farm system. I hope the Royals go full tank mode and get the #1 pick 3 years in a row. That is where I am at as a fan now.

Rumors Peters is on the block. • Feb 21, 2018 07:24 PM

Hearing Chiefs could be dangling him for picks before the draft. They have no real interest in resigning him I'm sure. Doesn't seem like he will ever be mentally mature enough to succeed long-term without either pissing off fans, coaches or teammates.

I would hate to see such a cheap CB get shipped off, but I do understand where they are coming from. Can't say the rumors surprised me.

@BeddieKU23 I'd prefer being the top 2 seed honestly...

@BShark I just wish we had the opportunity to play overseas again this summer. I'd love to see a little preview of this team.

Probably down - -but NOT out lol • Feb 21, 2018 04:22 PM

Good luck man. If it makes you feel any better, my 85 year old grandpa has had both knees done and he gets around pretty darn well still for an 85 year old. To top it off, the man is a giant. 6'7 250 lbs probably. So they really do wonders. Just suck for a little while.

Anyhow, good luck my man.

Trae...Deuce...Un Young: KU 107, OU 74 • Feb 21, 2018 04:19 PM

@BShark He would play a ton, just wouldn't be allowed to take half court shots with no passes while on the run and left-handed like Kruger let's him do.

@HighEliteMajor I have no doubt that an Adidas rep or agent tied in with the program paid a player to come to KU. No doubt whatsoever.

I do not think that Self was ever implicit however.

I also mentioned when this first came up, a couple of things.

First, Townsend has been the guy recruiting pretty much any questionable player. Either Self trusts him enough to recruit sketchy guys without taking a stupid bribe or Self and Towns have an agreed upon deal that Towns will be Self's fall guy. I feel pretty good about it being the first. Self even self-reports little infractions like accidentally talking to a player after a game. He has sat so many questionable players that would have been major helps, I just couldn't see it.

Second, KU was in fact recruiting multiple players mentioned in the report. As well as a few others that are speculated as being paid. KU never landed a single one of those guys. At least not in the current scope of the investigation, or what I believe is the statute of limitations for a case like this.

Third, The flagship Adidas basketball school, who spends the most money on recruiting and a fortune on Dorms would likely outbit anyone for a player if they wanted to. Not to mention, KU has boosters that they could EASILY contact under the radar to pay players. No need to go through Adidas to do it. So, no, I do not think KU had Adidas pay players. I would not be surprised to see another way in which KU found a legal workaround to pay players. Much like Self's camps. But it just wouldn't make sense to me to pay players to come here when you don't need to in order to field a competitive team.

@kjayhawks Gotlieb and Petro's 810 sessions are some of my favorite.

And I mean that seriously. Gotlieb at least isn't afraid to say something unpopular. He may have an inflated ego, but he isn't afraid to say things KU fans don't want to here. And never are they as outlandish as this stupid article... I at least have SOME respect for Gotlieb. He is at least somewhat credible in my eyes.

@BShark the things he mentions are reasons to KEEP Self Lol.

NCAA Basketball Corruption? • Feb 21, 2018 01:50 AM

Read that the recent reports are about the documents seized from Millers computer. I see no KU players signed with him if that makes anyone feel slightly better.

However, Tarc from Arizona and Turner from Texas were both clients. Both misses who were perceived leans.

Couple of Syracuse players. Peyton Siva.

SILVIO!!! • Feb 21, 2018 12:24 AM

NICKNAME IDEA: Silvio "Nintendo" D.e Sousa. Like Nintendo D.S. :)

Not sure who said it, but 100% agree. Just letting Mitch and Doke both play aggressively, knowing that a 3rd guy can come in and at least hold his own, could change this season.

Not to mention our HOF coach pulling all the right strings it looks like. He's got Newman playing how we thought he could, lost and then found Vick, has developed Doke into an absolute monster, turned Lightfoot into a serviceable big-man and a true force at the rim, and instilled confidence in Garrett to the point he can hit an open 3 and finish at the rim. If he can somehow turn SDS into a solid 3rd post player that lets us play more freely, well that might just be the reason he is a HOF coach.

Recruiting Thread • Feb 20, 2018 10:49 PM

@Gorilla72 I think playing here would have been good for Sexton too. Allowing him to not only learn how to run an offense from a guy like graham, but playing next to Graham would also teach him how to play off of the ball better as well. I think those two would have helped each other a lot.
