@FarmerJayhawk wiLL we?

2021 Transfer Talk/List • Apr 20, 2021 10:02 PM

@BShark Not on any big boards I can find either.

2021 Transfer Talk/List • Apr 20, 2021 09:42 PM

Really hoping Bill whiffs all the way through April, Marcus Carr gets told to go back to school, and then Bill opens up the safe.

2021 Transfer Talk/List • Apr 20, 2021 09:17 PM

@Oldmanhawk the guy from FIU also only has 2 years.

I'm not sure who they'll get at this point, but they'll find someone. Right now they are looking for someone who can make plays and get to the rim. At least that is the trend for all of the recent names that have come up.

But if we don't land one the dominos will start to fall and we may end up with a 5th year guy or something.

@Oldmanhawk 2

2021 Transfer Talk/List • Apr 20, 2021 07:06 PM

@BShark this guy plays HARD

2021 Transfer Talk/List • Apr 20, 2021 04:55 PM

@BShark I just have to think Bill is on the hunt for a bench player here... Tell him there is a starting spot open to compete for but bring him off the bench.

Maybe a move off the ball would help him, but yea that turnover number combined with his 3pt % is not a great look. On the flip side he looks like a willing defender and passer.

2021 Transfer Talk/List • Apr 20, 2021 04:44 PM

@BShark oof. Bill really seems to be doubling down on not needing shooters.

2021 Transfer Talk/List • Apr 20, 2021 01:53 AM

@wissox let's give it a year and see how it shakes out...

I don't think it ruined basketball the last several years where transfer numbers have skyrocketed. If anything it will/has created more parity. As I've stated multiple times now - the entire elite 8 had a transfer on the roster getting big minutes this year.

Teams like Baylor, Arkansas, Gonzaga, Houston, and Oregon State had historical seasons and I would say a good chunk of their success is due to transfers...

I also think it is a positive change for players. You get 4 years and now you get to spend them trying to get playing time/finding the level you belong at. Guys who would have to decide between sitting out a year or play another season at some directional school can go play with the big boys where they belong. Guys who are bench players who could start elsewhere can make that move and get PT.

I think it also keeps coaches from being such assholes. There is almost no denying that college coaches can all but get away with murder at practice with a few exceptions. Mike Rice coached college basketball for 6 seasons - and he was literally throwing basketballs at players heads. Now he may be the worst of the worst, but my point is simply that if he was able to do that (or anything close) for six seasons others are getting away with some pretty major abuse.

Instead, you have to treat players with respect and actually coach vs scream. This should really, really, really put an end to the Bob Knight coaching style at most schools. I think of what happened at Cincinnati this year. The entire team left and the school literally had nothing else to do but fire the coach because the team had turned on him.

TLDR - I think it is a good thing for players from multiple standpoints and I think it is going to cause parity across the P5. Should be far from the death of college basketball. It may be SLIGHTLY less enjoyable to watch as a fan because you aren't going to have near the number of 4-year guys (especially at KU), but it balances out because following the moves happening right now has it's own entertainment value.

2021 Transfer Talk/List • Apr 19, 2021 04:41 PM

@BeddieKU23 That team could be salty. I think they are returning their 3 best players and then are adding Brooks and Jeffries.

Sleeper in the SEC for sure.

2021 Transfer Talk/List • Apr 18, 2021 09:47 PM

@wissox in what way?

2021 Transfer Talk/List • Apr 16, 2021 10:54 PM

Good for them

2021 Transfer Talk/List • Apr 16, 2021 10:16 PM

@BeddieKU23 Good take for them honestly. High upside guy that if you can coach up could be your best player. No denying that the tools are there. You just have to be willing to unlock them and you may not ever crack the code.

2021 Transfer Talk/List • Apr 16, 2021 10:15 PM

@KirkIsMyHinrich I will take Bishop over watching Clemence hang out around the 3pt line next year and do largely nothing.

I think he has a lot more work to do than most people though... From a coordination perspective - very coordinated guy at 6'9.

From an athleticism perspective, I think the has a LONG ways to go and a lot of time to spend with Ramsey.

Kyle Cuffe JR • Apr 16, 2021 09:09 PM

@BeddieKU23 I'd rather take a step back trying to get better than run it back with the shit show we just watched a season ago.

Kyle Cuffe JR • Apr 16, 2021 06:36 PM

@BeddieKU23 Are you doing okay? Haven't seemed yourself as of late...

2021 Transfer Talk/List • Apr 16, 2021 04:56 PM

@KirkIsMyHinrich If he wants to come back he should announce now so we aren't dicking around with some of these guys.

Right now he's holding us hostage.

2021 Transfer Talk/List • Apr 16, 2021 04:55 PM

@BShark y tho?

At least get a guy who can shoot the ball. Yesufu about the only proven shooter on next season's team

2021 Transfer Talk/List • Apr 16, 2021 01:41 PM

@BeddieKU23 All signs point to returning 4 starters... One moving to the bench though.

Kyle Cuffe JR • Apr 15, 2021 05:45 PM

@BeddieKU23 I think they are one guy away. If we can't succeed with the guard rotation we have in place now then Bill has lost his touch.

But they do need another player if Och isn't coming back.

Kyle Cuffe JR • Apr 15, 2021 05:31 PM

@KirkIsMyHinrich I've really enjoyed it personally... I know it is chaotic but it is entertaining at least.

Kyle Cuffe JR • Apr 15, 2021 05:22 PM

@BShark I'd leave it open and just tamper if Ochai or Marcus don't come back lol

Kyle Cuffe JR • Apr 15, 2021 05:18 PM

Cuffe looks like he can fly at times... dunk machine

Kyle Cuffe JR • Apr 15, 2021 05:15 PM

Bill Self decided he'd rather have all guards than all wings lol

Kyle Cuffe JR • Apr 15, 2021 05:14 PM

Interesting move

Welcome Sydney Curry! • Apr 15, 2021 12:45 PM

@BeddieKU23 can he give us any minutes? We just need to not have to play Mitch

Bryce Thompson to transfer • Apr 15, 2021 03:09 AM

@approxinfinity Going to OSU (according to Slater so take it fwiw). Not really a smaller school.... And I think they may be hiring his dad or something.

There definitely shouldn't be character assassinations, but I do understand the frustration from fans with Bryce. The guy played about as poorly as you could and still got like 18 mpg when healthy and appears to be complaining about PT.

To be fair to him though, not sure Bill is an easy guy to play for... Plays mind games with guys in practice. Challenges their manhood. Makes sure everyone there knows who is boss. We've all heard the stories.

Still, Bryce had the Grimes mindset coming in... And this is P5 college basketball. Expected to come in and be BMOC, put in his year, maybe 2, and then go pro. But once you step on the court, your 247 rating doesn't mean anything with Bill.

Welcome Sydney Curry! • Apr 15, 2021 01:59 AM

Really scared he will be unplayable... Think he could be a black hole on offense and get lost on D.

But man does he make moving 275 lbs look easy. If he can give us 15 good minutes a game we will be dirty.

2021 Recruiting • Apr 15, 2021 01:57 AM

So goes it. I was never very warm on the idea considering his past...

Calipari has elite bag guys and Bill is recruiting with a hand behind his back.

2021 Transfer Talk/List • Apr 14, 2021 08:21 PM

@BShark This is the one Bill needs to land.

I'm good with Collins too off the bench. But Williams fits a need and seems like the type of player to fit with Self. Very active on D.

2021 Transfer Talk/List • Apr 14, 2021 07:03 PM

@RockkChalkk I have had my same thoughts for the entire 3 years of Garrett starting... So maybe I simply have a bias.

I just think scoring a basketball is more important trait than stopping someone else from scoring. When you don't need Garrett to score because he's playing next to two NBA players, then having him play D is great.

If you don't have that, you need Garrett to be a threat. And he just isn't.

Would I be pissed if Garrett came back? No. But knowing what we have in Garrett vs. what is behind door #2 I'll take my chances with door #2 is all I'm saying.

2021 Transfer Talk/List • Apr 14, 2021 06:54 PM

@RockkChalkk Garrett is a crutch for Bill. The type of player on the roster that let's Bill be "comfortable."

He doesn't have to manufacture points or make the offense better if he can just play Garrett 35 mpg and have a rock fight. He's good at rock fights.

But Bill Self rock fight teams have historically performed poorly in the tournament.

Garrett was a great hawk and an exceptional defender, but honestly I think we are better off playing 5 on 5 on the offensive side of the ball. You know Bill will make the defense work even if he played 5 walk-ons.

2021 Transfer Talk/List • Apr 14, 2021 06:08 PM

@Marco Double upvote. Maybe triple.

2022 Recruiting Thread • Apr 14, 2021 05:59 PM

@Marco I anticipate Gradey being out on the wing.

2022 Recruiting Thread • Apr 14, 2021 05:57 PM

@BShark newer tape makes him look more athletic too.

Really glad he's doing a prep year though so we get to see some actual tape against real players.

Bryce Thompson to transfer • Apr 14, 2021 05:51 PM

Also, why he like the long 2pt jump shot so much I'll never understand...

Bryce Thompson to transfer • Apr 14, 2021 05:50 PM

@BShark a lot of clanked FT line jumpers... a lot

2021 Transfer Talk/List • Apr 14, 2021 03:26 PM

I think it'll all be fine. Questioning Spring Bill in April is pretty silly...

Ochai • Apr 13, 2021 09:39 PM

@bskeet If he was a Bill Self guy he would have been in the rafters already, jmo.

2021 Transfer Talk/List • Apr 13, 2021 09:38 PM

Yea I don't begrudge players for transferring at all. You get 4 years. Make the best of them.

New S&C Coach For Texas • Apr 13, 2021 09:36 PM

@approxinfinity Other teams have injuries all the time. We just had bad luck under Hudy with timing.

She is a D1 P5 quality strength coach. But there are a lot of those.... KU fans do give her a bit too much credit. I think she was good at her job. But I guess I expect the person running our weight program to be elite no matter what.

2021 Transfer Talk/List • Apr 13, 2021 09:33 PM

@BeddieKU23 I'm just pointing out that there will be familiar faces... I already told @BShark privately that if we start the same 5 I'm not watching lol.

Won't do that to myself again.

2021 Transfer Talk/List • Apr 13, 2021 08:30 PM

@BShark I think what sticks out about Bryce Hamilton though is those rebound and assist numbers. Willing passer, willing rebounder. Even if he appears to be the only thing that UNLV squad really had.

2021 Transfer Talk/List • Apr 13, 2021 08:27 PM

@BShark Definitely better with less volume the season before... Idk I wouldn't be pissed but I'm not going to jump out of my chair if we get him.

2021 Transfer Talk/List • Apr 13, 2021 08:23 PM

@BShark Yea I know that post was basically goodbye, but until I see us sign one of these 15+ ppg guys I don't know that I'll believe he is gone.

New S&C Coach For Texas • Apr 13, 2021 08:20 PM

@BShark I think more than anything the importance of that role comes from consistency/cohesion.

You don't want a new trainer in who doesn't know your guys all the time.

2021 Transfer Talk/List • Apr 13, 2021 08:13 PM

People are worried and all I can think is we are returning the 3 best players from a top 15 team (Och, Jalen and Dave) and adding Yesufu, Pettiford and post depth.

And that is at a minimum.

I think we will be much improved.

All we talked about all year was needing a guy who can get to the basket. Check.

Post depth. Addressed.

About the only thing missing is adding shooters, but something tells me our 3pt woes can improve pretty drastically in house once you add a real PG to the rotation for 40 minutes and subtract Garrett (God please).

People think our shooting was bad - but it wasn't REALLY the starters. A good chunk of our woes were from a complete lack of offensive fire power off the bench.

  • Enaruna - .245
  • Bryce - .222
  • TFG - .130

Dajaun only took one three per 40 minutes on the floor so he wasn't exactly coming in to be the spark on offense.

2021 Transfer Talk/List • Apr 13, 2021 08:01 PM

It feels like chaos - but there is a chance KU returns it's entire starting rotation lol.

2021 Transfer Talk/List • Apr 13, 2021 07:55 PM

@BShark I feel pretty good about replacing Howard....

2021 Transfer Talk/List • Apr 13, 2021 06:16 PM

They really need to get the Marcus Garrett issue straightened out soon. Because they need to know if they can offer dudes a starting spot or not.

Right now between him and Ochai it is hard to find anything besides a bench piece. We got a high-end PG on the market because we had that spot available.

Same goes for that 2 and 3 spot. Bill needs to be able to show a clear path to PT or we aren't getting anyone.
