Floor Burns Game Thread • Dec 01, 2018 11:10 PM

Dedrick “old man” Lawson is smooth

Hunt POS • Dec 01, 2018 09:39 PM

I’d say yes to Charles as I really want a backup to ware with some talent to finish out the season. Not sure those rumors have a leg to stand on however.

WE'RE RANKED 11th • Nov 28, 2018 04:31 PM

@JayHawkFanToo information will be tallied for each team for each game so can’t divide by 2 I believe. However you are correct in that it will take just a few seconds to tally things up. With multiple data points per team and multiple calculations the data will add up however I am not worried about the data creating storage or runtime issues more of the possiblity of a small error compounding daily into a huge issue.

WE'RE RANKED 11th • Nov 28, 2018 04:06 AM

It appears that all teams started as equals which makes sense for a computer based program. why throw in a human prediction after all. It also appears that as the date a game is played is not tracked the team order will be recalculated each and every time a game is entered into the system taking into account all of the games played to that point by every team no matter how remotely connected. That would result in a great deal of volatility at the beginning which would slowly stabilize as more data was entered. I am curious if the program is setup to recalculate at each entry or if it will be done daily or weekly. I would have set it up to show real time results however I likely would at most show a daily list with a weekly list being most probable just to avoid all the screaming as teams bounce about from games they are not involved with.

I haven’t done any programming in a long time so I may be totally off on some of this to be sure. I do cringe more than a bit about the amount of data that is going to be crunched each time the data is recalculated. Just keep in mind that to error is human and it takes a computer to really screw things up!!

We Out Toughed Them • Nov 24, 2018 03:40 PM

@JayHawkFanToo true, but you know what I mean

We Out Toughed Them • Nov 24, 2018 03:38 PM

Yeah but at least 2 of Dokes fouls were self inflicted on plays he should know better than to do. He has got to lear not to get so wide on screens!

Defending the 3 • Nov 17, 2018 03:09 PM

Last night was a bit deceiving in that Millers hot first half streak made it seem like KU was being killed from 3 all night. Not disagreeing that 3 point defense is important.

Louisiana Game Thread • Nov 17, 2018 02:59 AM

Make that 7

Louisiana Game Thread • Nov 17, 2018 02:56 AM

Louisiana Game Thread • Nov 17, 2018 02:24 AM

Getting back on def not a priority I see

Louisiana Game Thread • Nov 17, 2018 01:53 AM

@KirkIsMyHinrich tbh he does look better, he almost has to!

Louisiana Game Thread • Nov 17, 2018 01:51 AM

Louisiana Game Thread • Nov 17, 2018 01:50 AM

Yeah didn’t see those heels on the line.

Bill Self Just Played a McDAA • Nov 14, 2018 04:36 PM

Look back at Garrett’s ft’s from last year and compare to this years. Might be my old eyes but I see a marked improvement. Makes me wonder why I am not seeing that on his 3. Plenty of stories out there on how he has worked on it over the summer. Perhaps he has managed to bring the new stroke over to game time at the line but reverts back on his 3 under stress.

What was he at the line 2-2?

Vermont Game Thread • Nov 13, 2018 04:01 AM

8-8 is a KU record for sure it may well be a ncaa record as well can’t find anything better so far

Vermont Game Thread • Nov 13, 2018 03:47 AM

I watched Doke practice fts and he hit a bunch in a row. I think it is in game confidence now he needs

Vermont Game Thread • Nov 13, 2018 03:45 AM

Now just put it away men!

Vermont Game Thread • Nov 13, 2018 03:41 AM

Dedric is a mess on both ends tonight

Hudy should be proud!

Jeff Long • Aug 28, 2018 09:07 PM

Looks like ESPN+ is 4.99/mo that isn't horrid but I'm wondering if Hulu Live, Sling, and others will pick it up. Hulu seems likely as both are at least partially owned by Disney

Jeff Long • Aug 23, 2018 10:50 PM

I like the guy already!!

Will LeBron and Lakers Sign with Puma? • Jul 05, 2018 05:52 PM

@DanR oh really? I gotta find a puma store then! Best sports shoes I ever owned was a pair of Puma running shoes that served valiantly in cross country for a season in 1975 and then went on to be my goto casual and sports wear through a couple years of college. If they still make them I will consider myself lucky! Having the current style looses out to not having sore feet every time!

Five Big Questions • Jun 25, 2018 03:26 PM

I spent Saturday at a youth camp with a few of the Jayhawks and even Sherron came down. Been doing this for a few years now and I get a kick out of watching the KU guys coaching up the kids. I also get to watch them interact with each other and shoot a bit.

Things that caught my eye this year;

They all got along well Dedric, Doke, Moore, Grimes, and Silvio were there and hung together pretty tight when they had the time. that is not always the case.

No one has told Charlie he isn’t going to be the leader. He is not an alpha dog like Frank but he has guys looking to him. He spent quite a bit of time talking with Sherron, I count that as a plus. He is very very quick has a good shot and a ton of confidence.

Doke has found a 10’ shot that actually looks decent and goes in the hoop regularly. Shocked me when I looked over and saw him knocking in down. He also shot some FT’s at better than 50% with a bunch of screaming kids running amuck around him😂. I was to busy to get an accurate count but his elbow was staying where it belonged. He looks lean and strong as an ox too.

Grimes is smooth, but pretty much took a backseat to the others, true freshman that he is I kind of like that.

Sherron needs to be a coach someplace down the road! The team he coached went undefeated and the way he worked with the kids was special. Talked to him awhile, he just moved his family to Lawrence, his knees are back to full health, and he is working on getting back into playing shape and make another run at playing for money.

No real insight on Silvio his enthusiasm for the game is obvious. He ran the floor with the kids he was coaching cheering them on and lived and died with each shot they took. I can’t help but like the guy and his teammates appear to feel the same way. I kind of wondered if the rumors would make him a bit of an outcast but that is not the case.

No earth shaking info there but you get what you pay for

Mitch Bulking Up • Jun 07, 2018 05:45 PM

Other reason for redshirt, that free 5th year of education. If Mitch chooses the red shirt you would have to think that played into his choice. Watching his long range stroke another year might turn him into that long range big that JB says KU needs. He isn’t half bad now tbh although real game shots might be a bit tougher. The longer he stays at KU the better, his enthusiasm and knowledge benifits the team both on the floor and on the bench.

Mitch Bulking Up • Jun 04, 2018 05:17 AM

I like his attitude, Coach could say "Mitch go play point" and Mitch would do his damned best to pull it off and then be upset he didn't match Franks stats and let down the team!

@BShark I fear that goes along with the tired of school thought. Why bother keeping up if you don’t plan on coming back is a common thought, but not a good choice.

The most likely scenario for Vicks departure to me would be lack of interest in school on his part or on KU's part encouraging him to leave to make a bit of room for a top recruit by mentioning potential loss in playing time. Now that he's seen the lack of interest from the NBA and KU not landing a recruit there is a possibility Lagerald coming back would be a win for both parties.

Having a senior around could be nice but as previously mentioned Vick is a quiet guy that is unlikely to jump into a vocal leadership role. He could however provide some stability if the younger crowd gets a bit to wound up during a game. I like Vick, and wherever he ends up I'll be rooting for his success.

Quoting Lulufulu

@Statmachine machine made a great point about Silvio that I didn't consider. Basically if Self thought he would have been ineligible then he would have had him declare for the draft by now. Personally Im not sold on Silvio coming back either but we shall see.
And, Garrett. I really think that this summer he works like mad on his shot from deep and from FT. He will get much better. I'll bet on it.

I don't believe Silvio can declare for the draft, isn't the rule one year past your HS class graduation? So no reason to screw up your GPA by sending him packing before school ends even if ineligible.

Article on the other site today about Garrett working on his shot. Seems it is felt that is connected to left hand placement and he didn't want to screw with it during the season. If he can fix that his entire game could step up a notch.

Moore • Apr 07, 2018 11:20 PM

@BShark true in the past he has been a shoot first guy. What we, or at least I, don’t know is if that was the expectation and he did what he was asked. If that is the case perhaps if asked to be a pass first guard he will once more do what is asked of him.

Too soon to tell and mostly I hope he does the job well enough we don’t end up with a 40 minute a game point guard again.

Moore • Apr 06, 2018 09:36 PM

I got to see Charlie in a camp for a couple of days last summer. He is an anti-tharpe personality wise and hung out with the team when they had free time and was eager to help the kids. That seems trivial I know but each year I keep an eye on how the guys get along and how they participate in the camp. Last year Billy was standoffish and spent more time on his phone then anything else for example. Not that I took that as an indicator of future problems, more that it showed a lack of interest in bonding with his teammates something I rarely see so it stood out.

I can't get a true judgment of skills of course but Moore's ball handling sharp and very fast and he looks pretty nimble laterally. I agree with the previous poster that HCBS calling Charlie not a point guard right now was probably more motivational than accurate. He's quick enough I am looking forward to seeing how he buys into and plays D which we all know is the ticket to playing time with Self.

Frank • Feb 24, 2018 02:31 AM

@approxinfinity Fox was out and Frank was on a minutes restriction so they had little choice but to play Vince. I do agree with you otherwise.

Frank • Feb 22, 2018 01:54 PM

Frank is probable for the kings thunder game tonight. With Hill gone he is the only other point guard behind Fox. That’s showing some confidence in the young guys

IT FINALLY HAPPENED.... HELL FROZE OVER! • Feb 20, 2018 06:55 PM

Ooops Elpoy hung a banner

The Evolution of Doke • Feb 18, 2018 08:23 PM

@HighEliteMajor Has been a big change, I agree he probably wasn't being coached up on it adequately. I also think a part of it was Doke didn't think it was that big of deal until he cost his team a game. Normally I think that would have been easy to deal with by using a little pine time to get his attention. This year Self could not afford to bench him and I still think Self hung him out to dry in part to get his attention.

Doke is working himself into a solid first round pick. Yeah his jump shot is non existent however the vast improvement in his free throws shows his willingness and ability to learn. He's shown moves both ways now as well, that little lefty hook wasn't there a month or two ago and he made it look easy. I fear his upwards step into beast mode will have him moving on up sooner than I'd desire.
