Mason: our obvious weapon. Our sledgehammer. Shot over 50% treys for most of the season, only cooling off in our last 3-4 games. Self wanted a tough-ass guard to replace Naadir, look no further.

Graham: Our secret weapon. Across-the-board-good in every category. Add him to the mix, and he makes everything better. A force-multiplier, because he opens up possibilities, and is remarkably good at creating his own possibilities. Mario Chalmers-good. Enuff said, mark my words. Graham even makes Mason more lethal, which is exactly the concept Im trying to get across.

Selden: Simply put, a DWade-clone when his game is on. Let's hope the consistency corner is turned in his jr season. Its time to show the scouts, Wayne! We want you to go lotto.

Svi: Scouts drool. A 17yr old kid that can play with the big boys. Literally. An enviable feel for the game. 3-4yrs away from his final man's body. He could easily go lotto one day.

This all gets me psyched for whats to come this season!!
Mason is absolutely Sherron 2.0. Been saying it since last season, he just had to grow into it better to show everyone that I was right ;)

Devonte, Selden and Svi are also gonna be studs for us this year, I can feel it. If ESPN does a piece on the best backcourts this season. KU may not make their top 5. Ohhhh boy that is not even close to being right.

@ralster Frack, Devonte's handles are better than TT's his whole entire collegiate career.

@drgnslayr Ive heard that KU wrestling and Rugby do pretty well. Oh, and Rowing. Cant imagine why though. Only water is that awful polluted river.

@jaybate-1.0 Bring it! Lets make it happen Captn!

As I have said many times, I am not a football fan, I am a basketball fan. But I think this article could have Big 12 basketball implications, KU basketball implications.

Discuss at length, thank you.

OSUvsTX post football game write up ↗

From all of this.... what I get out of it was Cliff NOT being lazy and he DID hustle. Sometimes he looked slow... but that is with almost all freshmen who are trying to figure out the game in real time.

Which we should probably expect from Diallo and Bragg this season. Bragg has a head start, being able to play with the team during the WUG's.

Just another quick thought. Maybe we should all temper our expectations for Diallo this year. Which freshmen in the Self era at KU has had a long leash and a green light to go out and get points on a broken play? Wigs, thats it. Unless I am mistaken. Not even Joel Embiid was ready to start that first game, first tip off.
I am fully expecting Cheick to be cleared this season, I just do not know when. When it happens, would Coach put Cheick in over Hunter, not having been up to speed with the rest of the team?
I find that hard to believe.
That said, I think Diallo, once cleared, will have a major impact for us, just not right out of the NCAA clearance gate.

@Statmachine Since you got insider status apparently, could you ask the coach for us what the heck he was thinking last year with his fools gold statement? :)

PHOF!

@wrwlumpy That was a sweet shot. KU to the Final Four!

PS. never played basketball beyond the totally not real games my friends had in the drive ways

@dylans Nice article. Its good to see someone else recognize the legitimate legendary status that Coach Self is reaching.

I understand, lots of people say NCAA rings are more important. I get that, truly. But, Coach Self will absolutely win another ring or two before he is done and all the while he will be extending his conference streak to unreachable lengths.

MAN i had no idea • Sep 28, 2015 02:52 PM

@drgnslayr B/R says he is goin to Florida state or something like that. I just read an article on there about all the top unsigned recruits. They are predicting KU only gets one of them. Bolden.

Do I believe that? I dont know. Recruiting isnt something I know a whole lot about.

I hope we get more than one signee for next season though cuz we are losing quite a few guys next season.

My original point here was to continue the speculation on our line up this season. Im not going to sing praise or belittle any player on last years team, here or not here. Its all about whats next, whats coming up and Im psyched about the possibilities.

Big questions for me. Obviously whether or not Diallo gets cleared. Actually I should say when bcuz I still believe he will. And, if Coach Self will take what he learned in the WUG's and apply it to what he knows about this coming season.

@Crimsonorblue22 Frank, Devonte', Wayne, Svi and Cheick? Man, that's a SICK line up! With those guys on the floor, we could run teams out of the gym.

@drgnslayr Agreed that Devonte needs to have 1/2 his minutes at PG. I think he will get it too. Even playing along side Frank. With both of them on the court, they can flip flop, and Im betting Coach will draw up plays, or dig old ones out for the two of them paired as PG's on the court at the same time. ( Russ Rob, Chalmers, Collins )

Vick played SG this summer didnt he? I honestly dont remember completely but Im pretty sure he played the 2 and 3. You're right though, he would be better served by playing him as a combo guard.

KU Sports cited a B/R article where KU's potential starting 5 this year would be as follows.

"Bleacher Report also lists KU’s projected starting lineup of Selden, Ellis, Mykhailiuk, Diallo and Frank Mason III as the fifth-best starting five in college hoops."

I agree with 3 of those picks. But those three picks; Selden,Ellis and Mason are chalk picks. They started last season and will again.

The ones I disagree with are Diallo and Svi. IF Diallo gets cleared in time, which I still think he will but, I think he comes first off the bench behind Mick. Hunter showed in the WUGs that he deserves to play starters minutes and should start to begin the season until Cheick catches up.

Second, I think Devonte starts along side of Mason. Self's best teams have had two guys in the back court that can handle, distribute and shoot very well. Mason and Devonte can do all of that. Selden showed in July as well that playing the 3 spot makes him a better player. Gives him more room to play off the ball and show his athleticism. He was not one of our best handlers last season. The question is though, who spells Devonte and Mason? Can Vick do it?

IMO, SVI will have a killer season this year. He has had all summer to work on his game back home and late nights in Lawrence at the gym putting up countless shots, doing drills, lifting weights to gain 17lbs of muscle, etc. He is going to be a stud. But, is he a better ball handler than Devonte and Mason? IDK. He is good, for sure. but can he beat out Devonte for the starting 2 guard spot?

No, I think our starting 5 are thusly; Mason PG, Devonte SG/PG, Selden SF, Perry PF, Hunter C
back ups, Diallo, Bragg, Svi, BG, Vick. Then you have to assume Landen and Traylor will get minutes somewhere.

Would SVI take on some PG duties? Would Vick? Who would be spelled at which position? How would Self use Traylor and Landen if we have a stud duo of Bragg and Diallo ready to contribute major minutes?

What do we have here? We have a supremely talented, experienced and deep team. One that will be one of Self's best.

How 'bout that KU Volleyball Team! • Sep 26, 2015 09:34 PM

@DanR Its kind of nice to see KU sports, other than KU Basketball doing some good things in the conference.

I think KU football is relegated to the 10th spot in the Big 12 for the foreseeable future.

Cheick Diallo • Sep 26, 2015 06:46 PM

@Statmachine What ever classes Cheick took at KU this summer are legit courses. Im not really concerned about what they are. Im betting that he has had advisory people leading him to chose the best fit classes.

Cheick Diallo • Sep 26, 2015 06:43 PM

@Statmachine Thats good news. I hope. I mean, unless he took classes that were completely bogus like at UNC, during the course of his highschool years overseas and here, then I think we will be just fine. I dont think its a matter of IF, I think its a matter of WHEN.

Personally, I would rather have Cheick for the last 2/3rds of the season and healthy and peaking in March as opposed to what we got from freekin Alexander last season.

BAD NEWS REGARDING MITCH BALLOCK • Sep 26, 2015 06:40 PM

@drgnslayr I'll never be 100% I've got probly 70-80% range of motion and about the same range of strength back. I know I'll get stronger still but my range of motion is like it is until I leave this earth or get a new arm, shoulder kind of like IRobot.

Jaybadgers' Shirt • Sep 26, 2015 06:35 PM

@drgnslayr I wear my KU swag around the University of Vermont hospital and college campus all the time. Ive run into Jayhawk fans out here, at least a few of them. Kinda cool to see how wide our fan base spreads.

But, to answer your question, I also watch and support UNC, SMU, Wake Forest, Maryland, for obvious reasons. But not when/if we play them. I dont have any of those schools' swag though. Only KU.

BAD NEWS REGARDING MITCH BALLOCK • Sep 26, 2015 03:42 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 Oh thats good.

Greener Grass.... • Sep 26, 2015 03:42 PM

@jaybate-1.0 his AAU coach maybe??

I dont really care about missing out on a 2 star guy. I'll echo the sentiment Ive seen on here. I want Marques Bolden! Or, the other 6"10 kid whose name I cant pronounce much less spell. Azibuke?

BAD NEWS REGARDING MITCH BALLOCK • Sep 26, 2015 03:37 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 Tearing anything in shoulder joints sucks really bad. I tore my rotator cuff and bicep tendon on the right side about 5 years ago, then again a year later. Its taken me this long just to get close to my normal strength back. Of course Im not 17 anymore. Either way, its not fun. Very painful to go through.

Royals Join The Big 12.... • Sep 26, 2015 12:23 PM

@drgnslayr But seriously, does KU baseball do anything good? I mean, are they contenders in the division?

Im still happy for the Royals, proving last year wasnt just a fluke. They got more ballin to do though!

Recruiting Spinfluence • Sep 26, 2015 12:21 PM

@jaybate-1.0 " Mo money, Mo money, Mo money!"

@brooksmd Havent been paying close attention to MLB, just what I see on here and ESPN. Im happy that the Royals are contenders again this year. Are they better than last year? They must be at least equal to that in some way since they won their division. How does everyone think they will do in the post season? Could they make another World Series run?

Greener Grass.... • Sep 26, 2015 12:14 PM

@drgnslayr Yeah, I would like to have a couple spots filled for next year already too but Im not so hot on Juco transfers. I think they are overrated. Id rather have a top frosh recruit or a senior transfer.

Recruiting Spinfluence • Sep 25, 2015 10:12 PM

@jaybate-1.0 its fascinating and a bit disconcerting to see all of the ties between capitolism, WallSteet, other countries and collegiate level sports. The major ones anyhow. Basketball, Football, Baseball.

Incessant Diallo checking • Sep 25, 2015 10:08 PM

@JayHawkFanToo Nice alliteration!

Incessant Diallo checking • Sep 25, 2015 10:07 PM

@konkeyDong I dunno man, i think there is just as good of a chance for him to get cleared late into the season as anything else.

BAD NEWS REGARDING MITCH BALLOCK • Sep 25, 2015 10:04 PM

@wrwlumpy dislike. Hope he heals quickly and comes to KU.

Incessant Diallo checking • Sep 24, 2015 11:08 PM

Does anyone else check daily or more than daily to see if Diallo gets cleared like I do?
Its becoming habitual for me. I might need counseling. LOL

BOOTCAMP STARTS TODAY! • Sep 24, 2015 11:07 PM

@Statmachine Too Cool!

Recruiting Spinfluence • Sep 24, 2015 11:06 PM

@jaybate-1.0 reading everyones thoughts below, I wonder if a move to the BI6 conference is a good move for KU? Bigger recruiting pool, bigger tv exposure, etc.

Recruiting Spinfluence • Sep 24, 2015 11:04 PM

@jaybate-1.0 Final Eight lists...BFD. I'll be more excited if we actually land one or two of those guys. It seems like Coach Self wants to habitually build teams to run the inside/out, whether or not he has the right pegs to fit the holes. Although, Udoka could be a very big peg hole filler at the 5. Whats he at, 6'10" 250+? Big dude. We need him.

Andy Katz • Sep 24, 2015 05:55 PM

@dylans Biggest IF for me is Diallo. We need him on the court.
If Wayne stays at the 3, He'll be just fine. BG might take more time to reach peak physical health but it could peak for him at the right time for us. SVI is going to be a stud this year, I can feel it.

BOOTCAMP STARTS TODAY! • Sep 24, 2015 12:15 AM

@Statmachine Very cool that you got to converse with Svi and Diallo on social media!

Alleged Eligibility • Sep 24, 2015 12:13 AM

@drgnslayr I seem to remember Coach Self saying the NCAA has all his educational documents. All of them. Am I mistaken? If I am right, then they are taking an extraordinary amount of time in reviewing them.

The way I see it, there have been four players to come out of Diallo's highschool, including him. 2 have been cleared and one was not. So, 2 of 3 have been cleared. That gives him about a 66% chance of being cleared. Unless my stats math is way off. I'll take those odds. Id rather they were higher, in our favor.

I still think he will get cleared. How long it takes is the question though. My Bday is a couple weeks before the start of the first non conference game. Id love to have my bday wish come true. Id be #jacked!!

Time Trippin': Perry and Dorothy • Sep 23, 2015 11:56 PM

@clevelandjayhawk I thought Babe Ruth or Lou Gherig or #42 Jackie Robinson were the best. But, I really dont know much about baseball.

NCAA contact info • Sep 23, 2015 11:47 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 Hey, anything is possible right? I mean, what if we got a petition together with the sigs of 100K Jayhawk fans?

@wrwlumpy I am totally psyched for this game. I havent been this anticipatory for a KU game since the last KU/MU game.

Ive said before that I think the decibel level at that game will break records... I also think KU fans will juice up our team and spot us atleast 5 points. Most of our guys playing now were on that team that got embarrassed by UK a couple years ago. This is a revenge game, pure and simple.
KU wont let Kentucky win in AFH. The fans wont either. And, maybe we might get a tad bit of whistle swallowing from the refs. I hope we do.

I also hope Diallo is cleared by then. I think he will be. Either way, I think we can win the game, but it'll be much easier to do with him on the court. The hype for that game will be Skal vs Diallo, the two winningest teams in college ball right now, Coach Cal vs Coach Self.

We are going to kick their Arse's back to inbred Kentucky land!!!

Kstate • Sep 23, 2015 11:26 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 Where is it? I cant find it now

Alleged Eligibility • Sep 22, 2015 10:59 PM

@drgnslayr Cheick also took classes at KU. Wont that count for something?

NCAA contact info • Sep 21, 2015 11:36 PM

I dont know if this is even feasible or not but here is the contact info for the NCAA.
Maybe we could spread this around and around and flood them with calls to #FreeCheick

Sad news • Sep 21, 2015 11:34 PM

@Statmachine I totally get your point. 100% But, I dont think anyone has ever died from smoking pot too much. Guns, Meth, Heroin, cars, bet all that together nears 6 figures dead each year.

BOOTCAMP STARTS TODAY! • Sep 21, 2015 11:24 PM

@jaybate-1.0 When I read Coach's quote about Diallo, I felt he could just be sick and tired of the questions. But also, it could mean we wont see Diallo on court. Its so up in the air right now. I still believe Diallo will get cleared. We have time. But, not much left.

I think the jury is still out on Selden's "tweak" He played awesome in the WUGs.

If DIallo gets cleared before our first game in November. Hunter starts at the 5.
If Diallo gets cleared tomorrow or even next week, Hunter starts at the 5 until Cheick is ready.
If Diallo doesn't get cleared any time soon, Hunter starts at the 5, and maybe, just maybe Diallo comes back one more year.

Sad news • Sep 21, 2015 11:16 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 I dont remember him playing for Okie state. But, then, I didnt pay close attention to teams beside KU. That is terrible news. The media hypes the situation between police and black people, which is bad, to be sure. But, civilians killing each other happens way more often. I dont know the stats but its tragic and senseless all around. smh

BOOTCAMP STARTS TODAY! • Sep 20, 2015 08:49 PM

@wrwlumpy Is that BG? Id imagine he would be a tad out of shape.

@Crimsonorblue22 Ummmm, she could take ALL of us. ;) no illusions about that one at all.

Id like to submit a new guy for SVI. The kid from the newest Star Trek films. He plays Scotty

@HighEliteMajor Ummmm I think Im with you on the Rousey/ Hudy Jello match
