@jaybate-1.0 I retain plausible deniability at all times.

@jaybate-1.0 The scheme that is currently underway is classified under the B.I.A. jurisdiction. But, I hear it involves getting Nic Moore from SMU.

@Statmachine Do the players read posts on this web site??

@Statmachine Thats killer news. Great stuff! Rock Chalk Jayhawk!

TK article on KU Sports • Oct 16, 2015 11:00 AM

Wayne Selden Jr. grabbed an offensive rebound and slammed it through the hoop one minute and the next drove hard across the lane, angled his body both to avoid the defender and square himself for an easy bucket and banked a soft shot off the glass at Kansas University’s Thursday afternoon basketball practice.

The thing he did not do much of was stand and listen to coaches’ corrections. He no longer is a strong-willed freshman internally fighting the urge to do it his way, not the coaches’, or a sophomore knowing what to do, but fighting to focus well enough to do what he’s supposed to do every possession.

Selden looks thinner, but he said his weight is the same. He even looks taller. Could it be he has grown an inch?

“Maybe a little bit, hopefully. I don’t know,” Selden said after practice. “Maybe. We actually got measured today. I got measured today at 6-6 with shoes on, but you never know.”

He’s playing taller than ever, no maybe about that.

Attacking from the wing on the dribble and crashing the offensive boards, Selden looked comfortable in the land of giants Thursday. Small guards Devonté Graham and Frank Mason III played in tandem, turning Selden into a moving part who scored from everywhere on the floor.

“That’s one thing we’ve done an awful job with the last two years, play to his athletic ability and his strength,” coach Bill Self said. “I think when you play two little guards together, it will help him do that, as opposed to him being one of the ball-handling guards. So I’m excited to see him attacking the basket a lot more this year.”

Selden showed no signs of an ankle sprain that has slowed him the past few weeks. He looked explosive and quick. He presents a nightmare matchup for many teams trying to figure out how to guard him, and he can be used by Self to guard players of different sizes and styles.

Beyond his physical gifts, Selden brings a great deal of experience, the likes of which isn’t often seen at the elite level of college basketball.

Selden, a third-year starter, brings 2,082 minutes of experience into the season, Perry Ellis 2,455 minutes and Frank Mason 1,774 minutes. Heading into last season, Ellis’ 1,477 minutes made him the team’s most experienced player.

So when Selden hears talk of KU’s depth, he takes it a step beyond merely talent.

“I feel like we’re deeper because of experience,” he said. “We have a lot of guys coming off the bench who know what they’re doing, so that’s going to be big for us.”

Selden playing bigger will be big as well.

— Tom Keegan appears Sunday nights on “The Drive” on WIBW-TV

So...Wow. Coach Self admitted to doing what we were just talking about him doing. Selden should have been playing more SF. Now we know what he is going to do with Selden this year. He is going to let him play his natural spot like he did in the WUGs.

One question. Selden is clearly NBA bound but is he too short for an NBA 3? Im thinking of athletic freaks like Durant, Lebron, that greek kid on the Bucks. All of them taller than 6'8

KUMBB team pic • Oct 15, 2015 11:50 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 Vick has hair that is approaching Kevin Young status.

Lucas is 6'10...Looks like Bragg is too. We know Svi is legit 6'8. Diallo looks every bit of 6'9.

Musical Chairs.... • Oct 15, 2015 11:48 PM

On the topic of Diallo. Who thinks he will get cleared by first game?

Who thinks he gets cleared mid season?

Who thinks he doesnt get cleared?

Personally, I think he gets cleared at the very least by mid season. Just in time for us to devour sweet revenge against UK on Jan 30th. I say that because I read on B/R very recently that most NBA scouts think Skal wont get cleared at all, like no effing way at all. And that would make me especially happy. Although, its not Skal's fault so theres that. And, Id rather play Kensuckit with everyone cleared, that way they cant moan and groan when we kick their Arse's back to banjo land.

Musical Chairs.... • Oct 15, 2015 10:31 PM

@justanotherfan Mickelson is a better all around post man than Traylor, He gets 9.

Musical Chairs.... • Oct 15, 2015 10:29 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 Greene likely spells Selden when he gets to 100% ... only if Svi doesnt show he is the better defender and ball handler while putting up similar shooting percentages.

Musical Chairs.... • Oct 15, 2015 10:23 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 Wigs swings from SG to SF for the 'Wolves. So, Coach Self wasnt that far off with him but generally speaking. Yah I agree. Marcus and Markieff, Perry, even Chalmers spent time at SF and more at SG.

Musical Chairs.... • Oct 15, 2015 10:20 PM

@drgnslayr I dont see BG as a 2 in the big leagues, also due to lack handles and tenacity.

Big Blue Nation.... • Oct 13, 2015 11:20 AM

@drgnslayr Did the Royals win the ALDS? I thought they were down 2-1

Interesting, sad Cliff read • Oct 11, 2015 02:07 PM

@JayHawkFanToo Yeah, I meant to reply to you but also in general. To answer your question, no I did not expect Wigs to be equal or greater than Durant. ;)

No illusions, but... • Oct 10, 2015 07:34 PM

@Bwag I was just at the gym, watching Baylor toy with KU. I dont follow football. I dont know football. But, I saw something in that kid on the field out there. I think he could get real good for KU.

Post Late Night musings • Oct 10, 2015 07:33 PM

@Bwag Absolutely, we gotta play our best guys. Period. This year is our year and Mr Traylor, as much as I like his story, has to take a back seat to that. Bragg is more complete than he is, right now. Right now. If I can see that then surely Bill can too. You play your best guys. Im sure Traylor will get his minutes but not to the detriment of the team and winning games.

Ladies And Gentlemen.... • Oct 10, 2015 07:26 PM

@Statmachine Seriously, that video gets me so freeking amped!!! I could just turn into the Incredible Hulk and go Ape $#%^

Im speaking about the AFH best home court advantage in all sports.

Cant. Wait. For.This. Season.

Post Late Night musings • Oct 10, 2015 04:20 PM

@HighEliteMajor Wholeheartedly agree. Its April and KU is in the Final Four, if Im picking my line up for the pending game, Im picking Bragg over Traylor provided he has the reps and minutes behind him.

@jaybate-1.0 Anytime. Hows that book coming? ;)

Post Late Night musings • Oct 10, 2015 12:53 PM

I was actually able to see the whole thing on the Espn site! I think that was my first time ever to see it live. It was cool.

I thought the pseudo talk show thing with the Pictionary and Catch Phrase game was kinda funny. Too long but, kinda funny.

Bechard making that half court shot for that kid was money!! $$$ Seeing the kids reaction after was priceless. Good stuff. Then the dog pile after was pretty funny.

Bragg playing the piano solo in front of the full house. Now that was cool. The announcers said he hadnt been playing all that long. He took a music class his senior year in HS so he's only been playing a year or so. Then to have the guts to come out there in front of 16.3k people and jam out on a slick looking electric grand piano was pretty neat to watch. Kids got talent for sure . Watching him groove the crowd with his tunes and then all the cell phones blinking the same colors in time with the music, yeah that was awesome.

I kind of didnt pay attention to the lip sync stuff.

The dancing parts were funny to watch. We have a couple guys there that really cant dance at all. CoughHunterCough

The scrimmage game. Boy it was awesome to see our guys out there on the court again. Coach Self was calling the game "brother in law ball" but he seemed to see some good things.

Cheick NEEDS to be cleared for games right. freeking. now. Even my amateur eyes could tell he was behind the rest of the guys but his sheer athleticism and raw talent and motor were pretty clear to me as well. We need him out there. Cheick goes hard on the court at both ends like TRob did.

Hunter did some good things.

Traylor has been developing his mid range jumper and Self didnt seem to think it was a bad thing. Could that equal a faster paced offense with more spacing?? Hmmm??

Perry was Perry. The Designer was smooth as silk.

Our guards were good too. I mean, it was just a scrimmage but they all played well considering Coach Self clearly thinks they have a lot of work to do. Vick turned it over more than he didn't. Devonte' and Frank "will be playing together a ton" quote from Bill. Svi looked better and his shot was falling. Brannen was running and jumping again which was good. Selden was Selden

Im not sure we can take a whole lot from this one half of play time. Maybe some of you can add more things from a trained perspective.

My biggest thing was being able to see them play on the court again after a long summer that wasn't that long after the WUG's. Rock Chalk my friends!! KU Basketball is here again and I think it will be a good season.

Interesting, sad Cliff read • Oct 10, 2015 12:27 PM

@JayHawkFanToo I looked at the stat line for the game against OKC. Wigs was lined up against Durant at SF. It seems our boy got schooled. Durants line in the same amount of time was double what Wigs' was.

Wisconsin deal • Oct 10, 2015 12:24 PM

@bskeet Yer missing 2 million. It clearly says $96 million up there. But hey maybe you were thinking that last 2 Mil shoulda been given to the students of Wisconsin. I agree with you though! That is a lot of money that could be put to much much better use.

James Harden's contract with Adidas was more than double that at $200 Mil. SO, seeing half that for an entire school program doesnt really seem so bad. Plus we gotta crack that gap between all the NIKE school's like UK and Duke that are pretty much getting a monopoly on the whole system anyways.

Sasha's first game starting! • Oct 09, 2015 12:01 PM

@RockChalkinTexas Rock Chalk in Cleveland!! Sasha's no rookie, he's been in the best pro league in Europe for 8. Made Okafor look silly out there. Great stuff!!

@jaybate-1.0 Such eloquent basketball prose to wake up to. That was great Jaybate!

Get ALL the rebounds Jam Tray!

@BeddieKU23 AND, wouldnt it benefit the NCAA's piggy bank to have both Diallo and Skal on the floor on January 30th??

@wrwlumpy Like that Bilas a former Dukie is goin to bat for a KU guy.

@drgnslayr Oh yah! I actually heard about this on CNN! It got hit by Hurricane Joaquin on the way here from Mali.

Ive been to two games at AFH, home games. You can stay after the game and line up outside the locker rooms. I got all the teams to autograph a KU basketball for the price of the ball. Even when Wiggins was on the team. That was especially cool. Getting Wiggs and JoJo, the #1and#3 picks in the draft in '14.

Its totally cool if no one can do this. Im just throwing it out there to see if anyone can hook me up. I don't expect it at all.

@jaybate-1.0 I thought it was just my internet connection for a while there. Then I realized it was down. Im glad its back on again!!

@wissoxfan83 Wasn't Wigs considered a major Nike lean?

MEDIA DAY • Oct 04, 2015 07:18 PM

@jaybate-1.0 Solid Jaybate, very solid. I especially agree with your example of Travis. I hope you are right and I hope BG can pick up his handle and his D, or as you put it," when the neural nets grow in and they become full time D-1 players. BG needs to lose that wild hair. It would definitely open things up for us if Coach could rotate Frank and Devonte at PG. We wont see Frank and Devonte burn out/ wear down towards the end of the season when it counts if BG and Svi can spend productive time at the 2 on both sides of the ball.

Selden got injured already? when?

MEDIA DAY • Oct 04, 2015 02:48 PM

@jaybate-1.0 Doesnt Brannen need to prove he can handle the ball like a 2? And hustle on defense?

I would like to have a basketball with the whole '15-'16 teams' signatures on it. Id rather not pay the $150 or so it would cost from the KU Store websites. Rather, I would like to ask if someone from KU Buckets could get me a ball and send it to me. We can discuss privately over the cost, shipping, etc.

MEDIA DAY • Oct 03, 2015 02:37 PM

@ParisHawk On a tangent, Brady was never going to get minutes on that '08 team, they were just too deep and talented. He fit his role that year by helping the practice team challenge the first teamers.

SMU vs UNC • Oct 02, 2015 09:46 PM

@JayHawkFanToo As much as I hate to say it, I hope UNC gets more than just a slap on the wrist. Penalties for serious infractions or rules violations shouldnt just be handed down arbitrarily. It should be set in stone what punishment each violation gets.

MEDIA DAY • Oct 02, 2015 09:30 PM

@jaybate-1.0 The Tweets can all go suck it. Bragg and Diallo are going to be hugemontous for KU this season.

MEDIA DAY • Oct 02, 2015 09:29 PM

@HighEliteMajor I really think Svi is going to see time at the 2 and the 3. I feel like we will see him able to handle the ball and spell either Frank or Devonte and Wayne. If that happens, if Svi just starts destroying other players out there and his handle takes a major leap forward, he will be in front of Greene for minutes. He could give Frank and Devonte much needed breathers and Wayne too. Of course, this is all pure speculation on my part. Im completely guessing here.

PS. every article I have read so far, outside of @Jesse-Newell and CJ Online have Wayne playing SG. Their ignorance amuses me.

Bad news... • Oct 02, 2015 09:20 PM

@dylans Yeah, it is bad news. But then we get Diallo on the practice team for sure. It sucks for Dwight. I hope he heals quick and gets stronger, comes back next season and makes an impact for us. But, we get Diallo! Even worst case scenario, he doesnt get to play in games, he practices with us and makes us better anyways, then my thinking is that in that situation he would come back to KU for at least one more year. He came to KU to play in games, not sit on the bench during them. He wants to show everyone he is the best in the '16 class. If he cant do that, he comes back his sophomore year and kills it, gets drafted #1 in 2017.

@konkeyDong Pretty sure I was 18. Summer camp, snuck out with bunch of friends. Great memory. Yes I actually remember that!

Jeff Withy's Dinner Date • Oct 01, 2015 10:08 PM

@drgnslayr Chicken and Salmon or even sushi. Wait on the red meat intro ;)

MEDIA DAY • Oct 01, 2015 10:05 PM

@wrwlumpy Im super psyched for this season to start!!

MEDIA DAY • Oct 01, 2015 10:04 PM

@wrwlumpy Diallo and Bragg are freshmen. Traylor and Lucas are...well, Traylor and Lucas. Hunter has really gotten better and is very deserved of high praise.

Poor SMU • Oct 01, 2015 12:02 PM

@JayHawkFanToo My fears exactly but I think it wont happen. Bill Self is a friggin Saint.

Cheick Diallo • Oct 01, 2015 12:01 PM

@blackmild33 Is this true!? If it is, thats excellent news! Especially considering Colby just went down with a torn ACL. We were down one big on our practice team.

Poor SMU • Sep 30, 2015 11:06 PM

@drgnslayr Actually, I didnt see this coming at all. I mean I knew about LB's past 2 infractions but that was 25+ years ago. I honestly didnt think he would do wrong again, or at least get caught doing it.

He is one of the best coaches to sit on KU's bench but this is just disappointing. He should have acted like he was at KU still and the high moral responsibility that comes with being a KU basketball coach. Roy and Bill would sooner give their mom's to the mafia then cause KU and KU basketball any harm. At least thats what I think. Maybe Im being naive but I just think that KU is the best school to be a basketball fan of and to be a player at and to be a coach at and those things should put us at a higher moral standard than say...Kentucky?

I hate to beat a dead horse...

But I do have the golden question.... I mean... the fools golden question!

Even if Cheick gains his eligibility, there will still be a question on whether or not we can effectively score in the low post.

Will we be running our typical hi-lo offense again? (regardless of the status of Diallo)

Will he be critical of our ability to maintain a high % from trey this year? Will it always be "fools gold?"

At crunch time do we go totally towards an emphasis on low post scoring? Even when it isn't working?

And then other questions....

Will you be trying Wayne at the 3? Or... have you committed him to the 3 so we'll watch him all year learn his new position?

Is Svi really as improved as some say? Should we expect him to earn a lot of PT this year, and if so, will it be at the 2 or 3?

I hear you on the 3-point questions. Though sometimes I feel like this when I bring it up ...

Is David Beaty on the Hot Seat at 0-3? • Sep 29, 2015 08:39 PM

@jaybate-1.0 As much as I could care less for football in general, I would like to see some patience for Coach Beaty. I hope they give him at least a few years. Lets not be paying 3 ex coaches millions of dollars a year while we search for a replacement shall we? Plus, the guy is a local. He should get a bit more time based on that alone.

Poor SMU • Sep 29, 2015 07:33 PM

@JayHawkFanToo I know! Hence my question above. But, I disagree on one point. Cal isn't smart enough, he is just slimy enough.

Poor SMU • Sep 29, 2015 06:13 PM

@BeddieKU23 I was waiting for someone to post this topic. I think it sucks man! Larry Larry Larry, SMH. Thats just terrible, I mean here is a coach that we all know and love and he gets to go through his last years as a coach presumably under probation. Then, a slime ball kind of guy like coach calipari gets to parade around with the Pope and take advantage of the system with no repercussions? Its just not right.

Does this mean Larry is just as slimy as Cal is? After all he left KU and UCLA after penalties were handed out. Presumably he will do the same at SMU.

Cheick Diallo • Sep 29, 2015 02:30 PM

@ParisHawk Atleast he didnt go to the same school as Cheick did. I am wondering the same thing you are. Maybe now they can start looking at Cheicks stuff after this and after they tossed a nuclear bomb on SMU. Did everyone see that? Our former coach LB just got roasted by the NCAA. This might be career ending for him. Tragic.
