Bates isn’t old enough for the 2022 draft so he basically has to make a 2 year decision. I saw a lot of speculation yesterday after he made the decision to reclassify that he might go to college for 1 year and then the G-League for 1 year.

Really? Then why reclassify? It would be safer for him to just play high school ball and then go G-League.

@FarmerJayhawk Understanding people who react strongly to reports of several cases of side effects will be easier when you remember what many psych studies show about how the human brain is numb to large ststistics in evaluating risk.

People can identify with reports of small numbers of people, but cannot conceive of mass numbers as individuals. A local news report of post-vax clots has a face in it. A report of thousands of people in hospitals on respirators is just a number. The important part of that word, number, is "numb." People are numb to victims in the thousands.

The old saying is appropos: "A single death is a tragedy, a thousand deaths is a statistic."

Fundraising for hunger goes nowhere until the ads show a starving baby with flies flitting about, and campaigns for St Jude hospital show those poor bald kids in wheelchairs -- faces, not stats.

So, my advice is to (gently) present to your mom the reports coming out lately about individuals expressly regretting not getting vaccines as they go to ERs and ICUs. Find some where people talk about thinking they were safe because of (whatever). It just might make more of a difference when you say, "Mom, I saw this and my heart broke thinking this could be you."

I had to admit to my doctor when my diabetes started getting into the uncontrolled range, "Well, I guess I am proof that denial is not an effective health care strategy." Recognizing that we all do some stupid things may help, too.....Good luck to her and you through this mess.

... Nothing to add to this post but saying that "I'm not going to add anything to this post."

OU, Texas to the SEC? β€’ Aug 05, 2021 07:00 PM

@FarmerJayhawk boy that would be a pick-up the 10 landing Notre Dame too, wouldn't it? Don't think it's going to happen, but not out of the realm of possibility.

OU, Texas to the SEC? β€’ Aug 05, 2021 06:54 PM

@FarmerJayhawk Agree.

That is great news, indeed! Good fit for him, and still relatively close to home. I'm sure that he would like to stay down south. Wish that Frank and Svi could find a good home.

OU, Texas to the SEC? β€’ Aug 04, 2021 03:55 PM

@FarmerJayhawk That's good news, if true. I have heard scuttlebutt about a possible Big12/Pac alliance. That would be fine, as long as we are not part of it. Not onboard Pac12 or AAC.

@Oldmanhawk has his own opinions, respect them. Cool?

Self Has Covid β€’ Aug 01, 2021 08:21 PM

@Oldmanhawk good, don't.

@mayjay It was kind of like a Presidential Inauguration Γ— however many picks.

And kind of like a fashion show 😏

Self Has Covid β€’ Aug 01, 2021 07:08 PM

@Oldmanhawk yes, YOU are right. There are liberals, in betweens, and conservatives here. We try to not keep it personal, give our viewpoints and then move on. We want you here. Cool?

Self Has Covid β€’ Aug 01, 2021 05:52 PM

@drgnslayr @jayballer67 Yes, it is getting to where if you voice - depending upon who and where you are - an opposite opinion, then you are automatically dubbed either a flaming liberal or neo-nazi. Our media has been that way for a long time, and we are now becoming the same.

That is a door that leads to group think and one of two choices, either communism or fascism.... I guess that if I have to choose between one of those two, I am not - nor will I ever be - ready to give up on our Freedom of Speech and will choose neither. In fact, regardless of anything, I will not ever give that up. If ever this nation does that, we are toast - done.

Do away with the very freedoms - all walks of life, races and creeds, colors and personal beliefs - that have held us all together? Do away with them? Nope, I am not onboard. That would lead to the end of our nation.

OU, Texas to the SEC? β€’ Jul 31, 2021 11:29 PM

@FarmerJayhawk If we were to join the ACC, talk about some ready made basketball rivalries. I think that we're more likely to join the 10 though.

Not sure why he released a final 10 when he's a done deal to get paid at Kentucky.

I guess that's @jayballer67 's point. It has become a big "wait for it, wait for it" though they and everyone else already knows social media event. The NBA draft last night was kind of in the same vein... Hell, they even ask them about their fashion choices, etc. It felt like I was watching the academy awards. I turned it off after an hour, watched HGTV with my girl instead πŸ˜‚

@mayjay said in Self Has Covid:

@Crimsonorblue22 Unfortunately, the unvaxxed will continue to ignore anything coming from CDC because they think it is a huge power grab by Biden. After all, everyone knows getting people to wear masks or get vaxxed has such great benefits to any would be dictator.

So they will ignore it and then, when some Epsilon or Gamma or Tau or Phi or Omega variant comes along that kills vaxed people at the same rate, the unvaxxed will say, "See? The vax don't work." At which point any survivor has my support in knocking unvaxxed heads off.

Not fair, my man. A huge power grab by Biden? Then what of the black and hispanic communities? Are they worried about a Biden power grab as well?

@Oldmanhawk ditto.

OU, Texas to the SEC? β€’ Jul 27, 2021 10:37 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 my guess? Several schools will join the WAC, maybe one to the Pac12 and a couple to the ACC, KU and Iowa State to the soon to be renamed thing that is currently called the Big10. Don't forget, despite our sucky football program, KU is third in conference revenue behind only Texas and Oklahoma - Big10 bound we are.

OU, Texas to the SEC? β€’ Jul 27, 2021 10:34 PM

@FarmerJayhawk Good. We should have no interest in trying to be part of a weak conference. We need to move on...

I mean, I just do not understand why roughly 43% of America has chosen to not get vaccined? "Well, it wasn't fully studied, was rushed!" Man,, what is ever "fully" studied? And the craziest part? Of that 43%, many - and putting it out there, I am not a so-called liberal - are among those that complained the loudest about our economy being shutdown.

Adding to my previous post, according to figures that I previously didn't have about two thirds of both our black and hispanic populations have not been vaccined either. Wanted to add that, to be fair. It is not just a white Midwestern and Southern thing.

@Oldmanhawk You're good, and so is he. We should try - and I've been guilty, as well - to keep our discourse civil. He wasn't attacking you, just said bullshit. @mayjay is blunt lol. I don't think that he was trying to attack you.

Self Has Covid β€’ Jul 27, 2021 04:54 PM

@mayjay I respect that as well. I am an advocate for freedom, but not when it possibly puts others at risk of not being able to live. And that can be applied to many things, but let's just stay on the pandemic topic for now.

Self Has Covid β€’ Jul 25, 2021 04:03 PM

@approxinfinity I just want people to get the vaccine.

Self Has Covid β€’ Jul 25, 2021 02:24 PM

@mayjay not at all.

Self Has Covid β€’ Jul 24, 2021 08:57 PM

@mayjay That's what I mean, so low as to where one could almost say - and I don't think that anyone has? - that while you might catch it after already being vaccined you are not going to be hospitalized and or die.

Self Has Covid β€’ Jul 24, 2021 04:35 AM

@jayballer67 yeah, but they won't die if they catch it after being vaccined. A big difference.

Self Has Covid β€’ Jul 24, 2021 04:33 AM

@jayballer67 not really. Did he get vaccined? Everyone needs to be vaccined.

@nwhawkfan nah, the Big12 is toast.

OU, Texas to the SEC? β€’ Jul 23, 2021 07:51 PM

@FarmerJayhawk All day long we take that nugget. Btw, thanks for the nugget. Question though, why would UVA want to move from the ACC?

More on NIL β€’ Jul 22, 2021 10:54 PM

@BigBad not even the same universe, let alone ballbark $ wise. But yes, high schools are factories and or farm systems too. However, they are minors. Once a kid is of age and someone is making millions off of him or her, that adult deserves to make a few bucks too.

OU, Texas to the SEC? β€’ Jul 22, 2021 06:38 PM

@FarmerJayhawk this is going to move pretty quickly. Really not much of a reason to drag it out, at this point.

Zuby Ejiofor β€’ Jul 22, 2021 06:35 PM

@BShark not too shabby.

More on NIL β€’ Jul 22, 2021 12:43 PM

@BigBad I wasn't talking about percentages, but since we're on that topic what percentage of pro football and basketball players first go to college?

OU, Texas to the SEC? β€’ Jul 22, 2021 12:35 PM

@FarmerJayhawk I concur, that would seem to be the best and most likely fit.... But man, it smacks of outright greed. As if OU and Texas are broke?

More on NIL β€’ Jul 21, 2021 12:58 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10 I remember the Clarett thing, saw a good 30 for 30 about him and Tressel, Youngstown Boys.

More on NIL β€’ Jul 20, 2021 10:03 PM

Just saw where Nick Saban announced that sophomore QB Bryce Young who was a bigtime recruit but has yet to start a game already has over a million dollars in endorsments. And good for him! Football players have to wait until after their junior year to go pro, the NIL rule will be a bigtime game changer for them.

I remember that great running back that Steve Spurrier had at South Carolina Marcus Lattimore, who had a brutal career ending injury his junior year and wasn't able to legally earn a dime while in school and because of the injury neither did he as a pro. He would have undoubtedly been a great pro had he not been injured, and probably didn't even need to go to college.

I wonder when that shoe is going to drop, football players asking why they have to go to college for three years? For sure the OAD Rule needs to go away in basketball. Universities have forever been farm systems for the pro ranks, so it is good that players can now finally make some money too.

2021-2022 Kansas Basketball Schedule β€’ Jul 20, 2021 06:13 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 It won't hurt on the recruiting end either, our after this next matchup being able to say that we've won five out of the last six.

The one thing that I would recommend for any player or athlete? Keep your grades in check, and take advantage of your opportunities... But later, when it is time, go back and get your degree.

Zuby Ejiofor β€’ Jul 19, 2021 04:40 PM

Btw, I think that Zuby is a player, a potential "bigtime" player. He has more athleticism than Wilson, and Wilson after this coming season is going to be a pro somewhere.

@BShark what will his role be, if any, if he doesn't get the job? And if he doesn't get it, who are the candidates?
