There were alot of upsets, no doubt. This was really not an upset but I'll say it anyway, Clemson is not going to the playoff. Infact, after watching the Notre Dame - FSU game, though the Seminoles lost, people had better start paying attention to them in the ACC.

I tell ya what my friend. Georgia looked REALLY good. I mean REALLY good. - -very quick , fast their linebacking core is SWEET. - - I think they had Clemson frustrated , looked to me as Georgia was in control of that game for the most part - -now didn't say all but I just thought Georgia was the better team

True. But Georgia did not scare me offensively. I still think that the four best teams are Alabama, Oklahoma, A&M and - wait for it... - Cincinnati... I think that FSU is going to win the ACC, and they aren't even rated right now.

The Pac12 and ACC suck β€’ Sep 08, 2021 10:59 PM

Period,,, not much more to add. Those conferences totally suck. K-State absolutely beat down Stanford, and everyone else other than UCLA lost as well. ACC? They all lost too. The Big12 will be just fine,,, for now.

@jayballer67 TV markets are almost completely irrelevant in B12 expansion because there's no B12 Network at this time and I doubt one is created before the conference signs their next TV deal in a few years. Even then, media market size is becoming less and less relevant by the year because of cord cutting as well.

If the B12 is smart, whenever they negotiate their next TV deal, they negotiate the creation of a B12 Network with whatever network ends up with priority in broadcasting B12 games.

These 4 schools were chosen because they are among the best G5 schools and the B12 had to do anything possible to maintain its P5 status.

The only real debate was Houston or SMU and Houston was chosen because the B12 needed to keep the city of Houston within its footprint and sphere of influence for recruiting.

Bigtime onboard, the conference - should have done it years ago! - needs to start laying the groundwork on getting a Big12 Network - ACC has one, SEC has one, B1G has one, ditto the PAC12. We have had bad conference leadership, period.

@drgnslayr given our circumstances we had no choice, other than dissolving the conference which was a non-starter - all four of those schools add something. The biggest issue I have is the geography, but that is better than not having a Big12.

@stoptheflop I think they're doing it out of necessity, to try and throw the D off. The staff knows that our o-line sucks.

Possibly. I wonder, if that is a good strategy to use with a mediocre OL, should the Chiefs have tried it in the SB?

I think they did try, right? πŸ˜‚

@Texas-Hawk-10 said in Well getting close I'm ready believe it or not. Are you ?:

This is as good as the B12 could hope for at this point. 3 of the 4 have recently played in New Years 6 games and BYU had a strong case last year. I would put this version of the B12 ahead of the P12 and equal or ahead of the ACC most years in football as far as top to bottom strength. There's nobody on Clemson's level, but the middle and bottom of the B12 would be stronger than the ACC most years.

In basketball, UCF would be a doormat and would be comparable to what TCU was when they entered the league. BYU would likely be a bottom half of the conference team initially, but much more competitive than UCF would be. Cincy and Houston would be tournament caliber teams as soon as they enter the league and good enough to be in the rotation of who challenges Kansas and Baylor each year.

I'm also curious if BYU and UCF would be all sports members or football only since both schools are about 900 miles away from its nearest B12 campus. Lubbock is about 875 miles from Provo and Cincinnati and Morgantown are both at 899 from Orlando according to Google Maps.

Yeah, and that is the downfall (which was what I didn't like about adding West Virginia), no goegraphic proximity. But how could the conference do any better?

Big12 expansion β€’ Sep 04, 2021 02:08 AM

@nwhawkfan said in Big12 expansion:

When you look at TV market size, this makes as much sense as any other option I've heard, short of the Big 10 taking us in.

You'd be adding market #8 (Houston), 17 (Orlando), 30 (SLC, plus a national following) and 36 (Cincinnati). I was surprised to see that the Orlando metro is now bigger than Miami, according to Nielsen. (BTW, Kansas City has dropped to #34.)

When UCF beat Boise State last night it added to their national profile. A rising program at a school with a 70,000 student enrollment, in a growing market.

It does not look or feel like the B1G really wants us. On the bright side, those are not chump football programs that we are adding, nor are they - even UCF really - that in basketball.

All things considered, it is the best that we could hope for Big12 wise. I am starting to think that we won't go anywhere, will stay put in the 12 out of necessity due to having no other realistic options - if you were the cozy A.D. at a B1G school would you want KU to beat you every year in basketball?

I believe that those four teams accumulative will actually add conference football power (Texas hasn't done anything in years), ditto in basketball.

Big12 expansion β€’ Sep 03, 2021 04:56 PM

Saw where the conference is going to formally reach out to BYU, UCF, Cincinnati and Houston perhaps as early as this season inviting them to join the Big12.

Info obviously leaked, which means that those schools have probably already accepted the invite and that OU and Texas have come to some sort of a yet to be announced agreement as to their buyout and will be SEC bound perhaps after this season or at the latest after next.

UCF, BYU, Cincinnati and Houston are going to receive Big12 invites.

That info was obviously leaked, which means that those four schools are more likely than not going to accept the invite. At least we've got a brand name in basketball which might make things work out for us, but the Loyola's and Butlers and Gonzaga's of the world are terrified right now. You're right @drgnslayr it's hard to see how this turns out. I'm a little surprised it's not being discussed non-stop here because it really is concerning to me.

The NIL is a concern of mine. Not sure how its related, but I'm just imagining BMOC football player making some nice coin while in college suddenly becoming a booster to influence kids to come to their school and be their point guard or center, or wide receiver or whatever. NIL isn't going to change corruption in recruiting I don't think. This is a hot mess.

Good points, all of them. If mean, how will a B1G, ACC and PAC12 alliance even work?

And that is where it becomes a different game. Coaches just to get players are going to have to also be half-assed agents. Saban and Dabo get it, Young and the guy with the first name DJ 😏 (yeah, I'm being lazy again) raking it in - ESPN (imagine that, considering that they televise the four team playoff) even promoting those two schools on the bottom line.

I support the ruling, but it is definitely a work in progress. KU is going to have to rely on Wichita and KC or owners with ties to KU for contracts.

$ are... One thing about Larry though, he will make a difference and is a great coach. And after about three, four or five years, you will be on probation. Just ask UCLA, KU or SMU.

While college football is imo close to breaking off all ties with the NCAA, college basketball has a long way to go to be able to do that, if ever (I say it won't, and can't). Having said all of that, and knowing his past would you hire Larry Brown? I would not.

Self Has Covid β€’ Aug 07, 2021 04:42 PM

@mayjay said in Self Has Covid:

@FarmerJayhawk Understanding people who react strongly to reports of several cases of side effects will be easier when you remember what many psych studies show about how the human brain is numb to large ststistics in evaluating risk.

People can identify with reports of small numbers of people, but cannot conceive of mass numbers as individuals. A local news report of post-vax clots has a face in it. A report of thousands of people in hospitals on respirators is just a number. The important part of that word, number, is "numb." People are numb to victims in the thousands.

The old saying is appropos: "A single death is a tragedy, a thousand deaths is a statistic."

Fundraising for hunger goes nowhere until the ads show a starving baby with flies flitting about, and campaigns for St Jude hospital show those poor bald kids in wheelchairs -- faces, not stats.

So, my advice is to (gently) present to your mom the reports coming out lately about individuals expressly regretting not getting vaccines as they go to ERs and ICUs. Find some where people talk about thinking they were safe because of (whatever). It just might make more of a difference when you say, "Mom, I saw this and my heart broke thinking this could be you."

I had to admit to my doctor when my diabetes started getting into the uncontrolled range, "Well, I guess I am proof that denial is not an effective health care strategy." Recognizing that we all do some stupid things may help, too.....Good luck to her and you through this mess.

You did good with this post, keep up the good work πŸ˜‚
