Whatever that means...
@AsadZ Your opinion I appreciate, but Beard has to implement an entirely new system for the entire team - not this year, I give the edge to KU. We do afterall, though all might not start this season, have four starters coming back. But make no mistake, Texas will be our biggest conference competitor from here on. Baylor will find that out soon enough, as will Tech. Don't discount Moser at OU either. I think that we had better get back to playing D, because Texas and Oklahoma are undoubtedly going to - bigtime. Question. Can the new Tech Coach coach?
@jayballer67 great post. The NBA, as we all know, is not the end all. Players can make big bucks playing in other nations, good for them!
@KirkIsMyHinrich Anyone out there still think that Beard is not going to be in a pain in our ass at UT? The guy and they are not playing, they're for real already. I am stoked about the transfer rule, it bodes well for KU maybe getting off light. And yes @Texas-Hawk-10, I do realize that they are "supposedly" different rules/circumstances,,,, but not really. They've all been paid, this time by both the booster/shoe companies and the schools.
So someone let me know, please. What kind of dumpster fire is going on at Illinois? Isn't Underwood still there?
@Texas-Hawk-10 I wasn't referring to U.S. history, which I know more than my share of. I am talking about free people having the ability to make money, any money.
@Texas-Hawk-10 err,,, more of them.
You know, after giving it more thought, I'm good with NIL. When it is a multi-billion dollar enterprise and those that are delivering the product are paid nothing - yet when a player gets caught being paid something both them and their school are punished, how is that even close to being cool? In point of fact, it sounds downright un-American.
@BShark Hopefully, they keep on a coming. Robinson, underrated player, bigtime glue guy - one of my favorites. That entire '08 team though, guess I'd put all of them right up there on my list.
Gee, wonder if Texas has become a huge honey hole for us? Texas and now Sunrise. Hopefully with the addition of Yesufu we might be able to start snagging some Chicago players as well, ditto by adding Cuffe some in NYC. N. Carolina players have also been showing us some love - Graham, Dotson, Pettiford.
@jayballer67 Well, atleast we don't have to wonder whether he'll be one of the two, right?
@BeddieKU23 KU and UK have embraced the idea of transfers, in KU's case both coming and going - Duke and UNC, not so much. One thing that we've finally accomplished by all of the transfers/freshmen and important players coming back this year? Class balance.
@BeddieKU23 explain. UK?
@Crimsonorblue22 Probably going to see alot more of that, with NIL being approved.
@Crimsonorblue22 Maybe so, but Josh balled his ass off.
@Kcmatt7 They will both hurt.
It would be crazy if we had Cockburn this year and Dick next.
@Kcmatt7 that he did. But would it have happened now? I say no.
@Texas-Hawk-10 agree. And he should not do it.
@rockchalkwyo Didn't say that I like UNC, I don't. I respect Roy.
@FarmerJayhawk I like Roy. He won what two championships at UNC? And while not winning one for us he did get us to four Final Fours and recruited his ass off while here. People forget, we were on probabtion when he took over. And from year one on, he coached his ass off. I'll never forget the class that he showed when we smacked his team in the Final Four, yet he wore Jayhawk gear in the stands as we were winning the National Championship against Calipari and Memphis.
@Texas-Hawk-10 good points one and all, but how many transfers? Also, were we not rated number one to start the season while at the end damn near having our top 25 streak snapped?
@drgnslayr The only thing that I am concerned about is remembering that transfer heavy Lawson brothers team of a few years back when it just didn't mesh, and as I recall we started the season rated #1. This year we have what, nine new players (5 transfers, 4 freshmen)? But in Bill I trust, and on paper we do look very good.
@tis4tim You got it. The mid-major or small schools are going to be left holding the empty bag. For example, do you think that what Gonzaga has become could've happened had there been NIL? I doubt it. And there probably won't be another one. This thing has slippery slope written all over it.
@Kcmatt7 That is a great question, and a very interesting one. It is not out of the realm of possibility that such a thing could one day happen.
@Texas-Hawk-10 Totally agree, so to those that think so I ask where are all of the Mitch minutes going to come from? Remember, we have Wilson, Clemence and Adams too who have the 4 spot all but wrapped with one maybe even getting some spot minutes occasionally at the 5.
@BeddieKU23 an interchangeable lineup too. I'm glad that Mitch came back for cheerleading bench and locker room purposes if nothing else, but I don't see him getting alot of playing time.
I say that Agbaji and Wilson both return 😏
@jayballer67 I'm with you there.
I am glad that I was once again wrong. Good to see Agbaji back in the fold.
@approxinfinity agree. He would not be able to improve his NBA chances by returning. In fact, his minutes are all but guaranteed to decrease. And then what would he do? Probably force things, hurting both himself and the team.
Wow,,, Wilson and Clemence, Adams and now Ejiofor. And Texas doesn't really have any talent, right? 😏 This guy is a good get. Looks like he has a motor and nose for the ball.
@Oldmanhawk I don't think that he'll be able to improve his draft stock any by returning. If he did or does come back, his playing time will probably be decreased.
@BShark Saw where someone had him listed #40 or 45 in his class. What are your thoughts? Looks like a player to me. They could play Clemence and or Adams alongside him. Shaw is now probably a no bueno, too deep at the four.

No room. Good player though.
There could be room if Self makes Ochai's decision for him.
Ochai is gone.
@BShark yep.
@jayballer67 I've expected him to play from the get go, never believed that either he or Clemence would redshirt. Not one player, unless Pettiford isn't ready to go is going to take a redshirt. Wilson is coming back, but Ochai is gone.
They will be getting most of their money from well to do individuals and or shoe companies such as Adidas. Hmm,, that almost sounds familiar. It is going to be interesting how this all shakes out,,, like, for example, what certain members of the Oklahoma women's gymnastics and softball teams decide to do, etc.
Pollard, LaFrentz, Pierce, Vaughn and Haas. That tournament loss still hurts.

Hmm. Obviously we can't turn down Top 100 type talent but what position is he going to play at KU? Note I could probably say Jalen Wilson's role after he leaves..
And he can throw it down too.
@wissox It was a screwup. I did like your post though 😂
@wissox that's what I am saying. Not there yet, but definitely trying to go in that direction.
@tis4tim Very cool story. I was able to watch the game with my family, then two days later had to go overseas. I was really proud once there to be able to when warranted say Rock Chalk Jayhawk!

@approxinfinity whoever sent it doesn't really understand the concept of 'team"
Agree. Pretty pathetic, really.

I'm a huge fan of this guy; he's absolutely blown the F up recently. Unfortunately I don't think we're in on him at all. https://247sports.com/Player/Anthony-Black-46094020/ ↗
Looks like a player. How much you wanna bet against Beard and Snacks landing him at Texas?
@Kcmatt7 the universities in such a scenario would be paying them, right? Do those universities not receive billions of dollars a year from the government? Who gives the money to the government?
@justanotherfan that is the direction that it is going, and when universities even after giving them fullride scholarships start paying athletes to play they will inevitably be dipping into taxpayer funds, and that does not smell like capitalism to me.
I say expand the G-League and let the NBA foot the bill, rather than the taxpayer. I also think that the NFL should start up a farm system similar to that of the G-League or MLB farm systems. Then if seventeen or eighteen year olds want to be paid they will atleast have the opportunity to do so, if good enough. Otherwise, take your scholarship and be happy.
@justanotherfan you are wrong. That is the direction that all of this going.
@Kcmatt7 said in NCAA loses more power... again...:
I'm really trying to think how this will change football at all, and I really don't see it. You still have to recruit well and build a good program. A lot harder to do that with 100 players than 13.
A basketball team can be bought, but a football team still has to be developed.
It will change everything, athletes only going to those schools that can pay the most. It comes down this, even high schools make money, look at Texas and Florida and California high school football - pay them too? If yes, then what about the everyday students? They are benefiting the schools and universities too, afterall.
