Defense clamping down now
TCU guy by me sounds like he might stroke out after those last two fouls
Agbaji with the effort play
There you go Dotson, that's how you draw an and one

I can't remember who scored our last bucket
Either Doke or Dotson
Terrible stretch. KU outscored 19-11 so far this half.
Doke was fouled about 3 times there
Missed Moss on the back cut, nobody within 5 feet of him.

And no clue what all that time standing around was about...ESPN 2nd class crew today
Never said anything in the arena either about what the refs were looking at.
Didn't think they were allowed to review calls yet.

Dotson may not reach double digits today in scoring.
He always gets double figs
2-9 so far from the floor. If he gets to double digits, he's gonna have to do it at the line today.

Didn't notice in pregame, but Jankovich has a walking boot on his right foot. Looks like KU has had some rough practices recently since Mitch has a brace on his right wrist as well.

Another half with Braun not looking to score. 0/2. He needs to drive to the rim a couple of times each half, just to open up his 3 shot.
Other than not having anyone capable of guarding Doke, TCU's defense was pretty good in the first half and created a lot of those missed lay ups.
That's how you end a half!
The one guy on TCU you can't leave open! Grrr!

KU a one seed in the midwest projected by the committee right now
How do they have Gonzaga and SDSU seeded and who's their current 1 in the East?
Moss!
Beautiful layup by Dotson

Weak foul call
Garrett lost possession and dove on top of the guy. That's gonna get called 95% of the time.
Need to get someone other than Doke going offensively today.
I just got stared down by Super Frog and then he shook his head in disappointment at me.

@Texas-Hawk-10 kinda funny, it will be interesting what they do in the octagon of dumb.
Probably pass stools out to the entire student section and then acted shocked when something bad happens.
I see momma Garrett two rows behind the KU bench wearing a 0 jersey. I'm sure Jalen's family is there somewhere too, but don't know what they look like.
There's a kid in the TCU student section holding a stool.
@DanR said in Light Work Game Thread:
lots of prime seats empty. Don't the frog fans hate KU enough?
$75 for cheap seats today. They probably priced a lot of people out of coming. Also an 11am tip probably didn't help much either. Probably 80% full right now.
11am start looks like it's bothering KU. Just no energy to start with and a pretty dead arena isn't going to help the energy of this game.
8 minutes to tip and the arena is still less than half full. The crowd is probably 80/20 pro KU with what's in here right now.

@Texas-Hawk-10 booze in your drink will kill the taste of paper. Enjoy the game
TCU is a dry campus since it's a Christian school. Also doesn't change that your lips still touch the straw itself. Paper straws will always be the inferior alternative to plastic straws.
A lot of those environmentalists also ignore that you still have to chop down trees to make those paper straws so still hurting the environment.
Noticing during warm ups that Mitch has a brace on his right wrist. Also not going through any of the pregame warm ups.
TCU has paper straws in their arena. I hate drinking from those, just makes drinks taste weird because you can taste the paper while you drink. Not relevant to the game itself, just a rant since I just got my drink and took my seat inside the arena.
With this team's known issues with having the ability to struggle to score, there is not a light work game on the schedule.
It I thought only Adidas paid its recruits.
It's gonna be real interesting to see who gets the 1 seed in the East region this year. Baylor appears set to be the 1 in the south, KU has a good road to 1 seed in the Midwest, and SDSU and Gonzaga seem pretty well locked into the 1 and 2 seeds out west in whichever order. I just can't see both of those two ending up as 1 seeds.
That 4th 1 seed out east should be interesting to watch between Duke, Louisville, and Dayton as a dark horse. I could also see Dayton ending up as our 2 seed in the Midwest.
I personally hope stuff happens that puts KU in the South regional since that's in Houston this year and I could go see a KU in the NCAA tournament in person for the second time. My other time seeing a KU tournament game in person was the 2018 Final Four against Nova in San Antonio. I would highly recommend going to a Final Four at some point if KU makes it or even if it's within driving distance because the atmosphere was amazing with all the non basketball activities going on.

That floor looks better in person to me than on TV.

Fran has no business calling a player out on national tv! It's not his business!
Fran is an analyst, that is his job. He analyses situations and if Diarra's body language looks off, he has a right to call that out as part of being an analyst.
That wasn't double dribble
Bilas on Mass St. sounds like fun
Getting Sims out this early is big.
My favorite alternate uniforms tonight!
So that explains what's going on with Doke.

I've never been much for the whole fire-the-coach mentality, but when a team goes undefeated in non-conference, then wins only one game after that, there's got to be something there. Can't blame it all on a young team.
Schneider plays loads up on the worst of the worst teams in non conference and then when they play a real team, they get smacked back into reality.
@kjayhawks KU football has been only a handful of plays away from being bowl eligible the past two seasons. That's far superior to what KU was when Beaty inherited that mess from Weis when KU was lucky to keep a game within 20 against any FBS team. Beaty built a solid foundation for Miles to come into and the cupboard was nowhere as bare when Beaty left as when he got here.
@BShark I really don't understand why it didn't happen after last season.
I've also been of the opinion Price has needed to go from baseball for several years as well.
How much longer is Brandon Schneider going to coach the women? KU is just lost by 12 in OT after blowing a 22 point halftime lead to fall to 1-8 in B12 play. -34 in 25 minutes in a conference game against a bottom third team in the conference.
This is by far the worst hire that Zenger made because at least Beaty left the football program in better shape than what he inherited which is really what he was hired for. Schneider inherited a program that was at least competitive in the B12 and has managed to sink the program to depths lower than the football program. After today, he'll be 6-58 in B12 games in 5+ seasons as coach. That's a 9% winning percentage.
There's absolutely zero reasons for Schneider to still be coaching this program because it's not getting any better in year 5.
Defense didn't impress me much today. I thought this was one of our worst defensive games of the season and was the most points KU has given up in regulation all season.
What was the issue with Doke today? Was he sick or hurt today? Only playing 16 minutes and couldn't shoot to save his life out there.
This team doesn't pass very well and that's the root issue of the scoring droughts this team goes on. They don't reverse the ball very well, they miss a lot of open cuts and passes. 10 assists on 30 made FG's isn't good. That's why I would love to see some elements of the motion offense with this group, it would get the players and ball moving a lot more and open stuff up. Right now, it's too much Dotson and Garrett driving and either dishing to Doke or putting it up for Doke to get an offensive board. There needs to be more passing to the second and third side to really open the interior up or give guys open perimeter shots.
End of the day, it's still a win against a quality team and KU hasn't had a lot of those this season yet.

Another assistant - -OUT. Eckler , gone headed to North Texas. - boy the turnover in Staff has been crazy
Lots of turnover after the first year is fairly common. Staffs typically stabilize after year 3.
I don't see much benefit in playing Jalen this year. Unless Dave or Doke go down long term, there's just not much upside to bringing Jalen back this season. He wasn't practicing most of the time because of his injury so his conditioning and development is going to be pretty bad at this point. With Self going to the 4 guard line up, that might be the one thing working in Jalen's favor because he is a stretch 4, but Self has multiple options in that spot already with Ochai, Garrett, Enaruna, and McCormack.
His video and skill set also don't scream that he's a strong candidate to leave early. He has a lot of Perry Ellis in his game and I just don't see NBA athleticism when I look at Jalen. A full season of Jalen Wilson in 2023-24 is going to be of more benefit to KU than a handful of games in 2019-20 coming off of multiple injuries.
