Other former Jayhawks on UFL rosters are:

TE: Jace Sternberger, Birmingham Stallions

Long Snapper: Logan Klusman, Houston Roughnecks (I wish they would've used the Gamblers instead of Roughnecks)

Safety: Bryce Torneden, Michigan Panthers

DT: Daniel Wise, Michigan Panthers

Uconn so maybe Bill will review what they did these last two years and learn a thing or two. Saawwwffttt stubborn mule promising players minutes and doing the opposite of taking this program to a whole other level.

The big 12 was not good this year and we finished literally middle of the pack….another round of 32 not loss but absolute blowout. Don’t worry though we will run it back with 4 of this years starters

1,003,583th time.

@DCHawker If KU is having an off year, the Big12 won’t do squat in the tournament. Next year might be different with Arizona in conference (they’ve already flamed out too though) as I’m not sure Houston or Baylor will push KU long term.

UH is absolutely sustainable as a B12 power once Sampson retires. They have a benefactor who is pretty much single handedly responsible for elevating UH both academically and athletically into a B12 level school and will do whatever it takes to keep UH relevant.

I do agree that I don't see Baylor sustaining their level of success post Scott Drew. It took him a decade to get Baylor to a consistent contender and is essentially all of Baylor's basketball history.

Hard to believe this is only Tennessee's second ever Elite 8 appear with as much success as that program has had in its history.

With a 9 pm tip time I ain’t gonna make much further here. Down 17-9 at the end of one defense very suspect so far.

Defense hasn't been the issue, turnovers have been what's killed KU so far. You can't have 11 turnovers in 15 minutes and expect to be leading against a team as good as USC.

@MR11 said in 2024 Portal Madness Thread:

Fair, he seems like a solid addition all in all maybe just not the perfect solution to the roster. Generally agree with what you said about throwing numbers at it, we probably need improvements to come from multiple areas and it might be asking too much to fix the roster with one player (and risk them not living up to expectations a la Timberlake).

When looking at a 2, there's 3 skills to look for. Can they shoot the 3? Can they create their own shot? Can they defend? Players entering the portal are not likely to check all 3 boxes. They are likely to check 2 of those 3 though and that's what this staff has to figure out and balance. Kobe Johnson is a proven defender and a guy that can create his own shot. He's not a great 3 point shooter and he does have issues with turnovers.

This is the dilemma with portal players, which skill set is being sacrificed?

From you, jayballer

SMU is still officially a religious school which lines up with Tang's personal values and beliefs. See my post above about what's happening at SMU and it's a move that makes sense if there ends up being mutalual interest between SMU and Tang.

Rumor is Tang pretty badly wants out of KSU because of the administration. The Nae'Qwan Tomlin situation this season is a big factor in that as the admin basically overruled Tang. The inability to rein the F-KU chants in is also a factor.

I think Tang is likely actively looking at other jobs behind the scenes to get out of Manhattan.

2024 Coaching Carousel • Mar 24, 2024 02:55 AM

Here's an open job that I think is going to be very intriguing to a lot of coaches: SMU.

SMU is moving to the ACC next season. Big money NIL deals have been a thing there since well before it was within the rules. Their basketball NIL budget is reportedly $3.5 million including a guaranteed $36,000 minimum tonall basketball players. The school's location in Dallas is a big positive as the DFW area is one of the richest recruiting hotbeds in the country. Academics aren't the same issue there that Northwestern and DePaul deal with in Chicago.

This is a program that I think we'll see some unexpected names connected to in an attempt to get a raise, but would absolutely be willing to take the job if their current school didn't match.

Jeez, I watched the first half and felt confident. I look up in the second half and wtf happened? The D got worse I presume. Yikes.

Ran out of gas. Playing a very fast pace with the starters a full 40 minutes on Thursday to playing a very fast pace the first half today at elevation with essentially 6 players and the second half, they were missing stuff short and moving slower so they just ran out of gas. You could also see it coming in the 1st half too towards the end with Gonzaga getting a bunch of easy looks at the rim.

Even aside for the skill perspective, having playable depth next season has to be the top priority in recruiting.

@Texas-Hawk-10 is that realistic? Would he want that job over UConn? Something makes me think he is cemented in Stores.

No idea if Hurley would be interested, but if he's not, he'd absolutely leverage it for a raise at UConn. Other names that would likely be contacted are Jay Wright, Bruce Pearl, Billy Donovan, or Tommy Lloyd. Basically, Kentucky could contact just about any coach and they would listen because it's Kentucky which is a top 3 job in college basketball.

Yale has a 7’, 250lb Sophomore center. 13 & 6, today (14 & 10 avg). Ivy League doesn’t have NIL does it? Portal possibility?

I'd be shocked if the Ivy League didn't allow NIL. Dartmouth players are currently leading the charge for unionization in college athletics. Obviously, Ivy League players aren't making the same in NIL deals as Big 12 or other P5 programs, but they have NIL deal.

Friday’s Games • Mar 22, 2024 10:50 PM

Last 7 seconds of Yale-Auburn is one of the craziest sequences you'll ever see. Auburn missed and And 1 FT, got possession on a held ball, got fouled on the inbound, missed both FT's down 2, got the offensive rebound off the second miss and a crazy scramble the last seconds of Auburn trying to get a shot up.

Friday’s Games • Mar 22, 2024 10:46 PM

That was a very weak foul call against Yale.

Friday’s Games • Mar 22, 2024 10:44 PM

Florida's comeback attempt comes up just short and they lose 102-100 to Colorado.

Yale's on the verge of knocking out Auburn up 3 with 14 seconds left shooting 2 FT's.

Friday’s Games • Mar 22, 2024 10:38 PM

Both games right now coming down to the wire. Colorado/Florida and Yale/Auburn with both lower seeded teams currently up.

The bigger issue with firing Calipari is who replaces him. Cal isn't someone you fire on a whim, you only fire him when you already know who is replacing him.

If UK's donor pony up the money, he can be fired tomorrow. His buyout price is 75% of the total value of his deal which would come out to about $33 million. It's not an obscene number like what Texas A&M paid Jimbo Fisher this past offseason to go away so it's something that's doable if UK really want to part ways with Cal.

Protect the ball the second half. 12 turnovers are why this isn't a 20+ points lead. And not all of those bad TO's are on Elmarko.

KU Buckets 2024 ESPN Bracket Challenge! • Mar 21, 2024 03:15 PM

@wissox said in KU Buckets 2024 ESPN Bracket Challenge!:

@Texas-Hawk-10 Just curious how you saw Badger v a Duke, and if you have the Dukes then round two if the other Duke wins, then it's the Dukes vs. Duke.

I had JMU over Wisconsin, and Duke over JMU. I actually did some research on why Duke is called the Blue Devils and it's from a group of French WWI soldiers that a bunch of Duke students served with in WWI. So I imagined Duke's mascot as a devil from WWI.

Some challenging one were UAB vs SDSU because could a group of Aztecs kill a dragon? I thought so based on mythology since dragons aren't real animals.

KU Buckets 2024 ESPN Bracket Challenge! • Mar 21, 2024 02:05 PM

I made one of my brackets based on who I thought would win if their mascots had a fight. I used the animal mascot for schools that don't actually use an animal name in their nickname. For example, I used UNC's ram mascot, Alabama's elephant mascot, and Iowa State's cardinal mascot.

KU lost in the 2nd round to McNeese. Grambling comes out of the Midwest region over Texas. The Final Four includes an Iron Bowl and the national champion was Alabama over Florida. If schools had the same mascot, the higher seeded team moved on.

Colorado and Florida is by far the best 1st round game with this criteria.

Other bball games • Mar 20, 2024 10:08 PM

@wissox said in Other bball games:

@focojayhawk I know nothing about them. Is the narrative that they deserved a better seed?

The narrative is the Mountain West got jobbed on seeding. They have 6 teams in the tournament in the field, only SDSU and Utah St. are top 8 seeds. The other 4 are 10 or 11 seeds. CSU and Boise are each in First Four games as 10 seeds and New Mexico is an 11 seed. Based on their computer rankings, SDSU is seeded where their rankings are, but everyone else is multiple seeds lower than they should be. Most of the MWC teams should be in 6-9 seed range, not 10 or 11 seeds. 11th seed New Mexico is ranked in the top 25 of the NET, Kenpom, RPI, most advanced metrics meaning computers believe they should be a 6 seed, not an 11 seed that this year isn't even an at large bid.
