Time to bring Jankovich back in to make a couple of threes!

I've had a very long datmy of testing, I'm hoping to make it through the game, so Sweet 16 game. If St. Peter's could do that as a 15, why not some SWAC school as a 16 seed.

Bringing out the Reds game chat • Mar 06, 2024 01:59 AM

ESPNU to start.

This week is the first time in 3 years that KU has not been ranked in the top 10.

Think about that, we have people being doom and gloom about the future of this program because we aren't currently a top 10 team.

@wissox What’s insane is that since seeding began in 1979, KU has only been lower than a 4 seed 5 times in the years KU has made the NCAA Tournament and not since the 2000 tournament, and only three times in the last 35 years including 1989 when KU didn't play in the tournament. The sustained level of success at KU during that time is insane.

@NormRoberts You're the one who brought Kentucky into the conversation while singing the praises of their offense while ignoring that their defense really is that bad this season. So trying to model after Kentucky on offense is something that Self's been there, done that, and didn't win a title with that style. I'd rather Self copy the formula that's won himself a couple of national titles rather than any other formula.

I will also say, that I think KU can absolutely be successful with KJ at the 4. The biggest need is at the 2 spot. Either a playmaker who can PnR with KJ while Hunter camps at the top of the key, or a 3 and D player who can camp in the corner opposite Furphy and let KJ and Hunter run the high-low.

The high-low is the base offense this season, but KU doesn't have the shooters to space the floor to prevent double teams on the low post player which has resulted in the ball being forced into double teams for a lot of turnovers and bad shots.

Self should have a minimum of 3 more openings this off-season and adding quality bench depth through the portal is tough because most people don’t transfer to come off the bench, but that will likely be the reality for all but one of whoever else Self ends up bringing in through the portal.

@NormRoberts said in It will be pretty hard for me to be excited for next year's team:

@wissox Kentucky got 2 freshman guards in Rob and Reed who can get a score or make a play.We have guys who need plays made for them. Not enough PLAYMAKERS.Just tired of recruiting second tier guys this is KANSAS and get the best simple.Just go back to 4 around 1.This KJ thing get so hard at times.

Kentucky also doesn't play any defense. They're 341st in scoring defense giving up 80 ppg. That's not a system set up for success in the NCAA Tournament.

Wounded Jayhawks game thread • Mar 02, 2024 09:05 PM

I don't care if the refs are or aren't why KU lost today, but holy shit that was some terrible officiating today. When Bill Self stops working the refs during a game, you know it's bad. KU took 45 field goal attempts, most near the basket and Baylor's bigs only committed two fouls the entire game? Are you f-ing kidding me?

Wounded Jayhawks game thread • Mar 02, 2024 06:51 PM

Which ref is going to need a shoehorn after the game?

We haven't made shots on the road and defending the 3 has been a huge issue. Completely different team on the road. Agree it's harder then ever to win away from home. Officiating is the leading cause there

This team hasn't defended the three well at home either.

@wissox said in Wounded Jayhawks game thread:

Is anyone predicting a KU victory today? We certainly are in a cool spell that we haven't really seen in quite some time.

Kevin iffy again it sounds like? As others have said sacrificing wins now may be our best bet for success in March.

I'm looking forward to seeing the new arena at Baylor today. Kind of surprised but kind of not to see the low seating capacity. It reminds me of our plans to build a low capacity football stadium.

Anyways, enjoy the game bucketeers! It's only sports, don't let another tough one ruin your Saturday!

The new lower capacity of Baylor's arena and UT's are frustrating because I haven't been able to make it to a KU game in person in a couple of years now. UT's new arena dropped capacity by over 6,000 seats and Baylor's dropped capacity by about 2,500 seats. That means tickets for KU last year in Austin were sold out before the made it to public on sale, same with Baylor this year. Tickets for today have significantly dropped in price, but it's too late for me drive to Waco and make it to the game. Leading up to the last couple of days, tickets were going for about $175 on aftermarket sites. Tickets to the UH game at Fertitta Center next week are still north of $250 apiece so won't be making it to that one either.

@bskeet said in Leipold New Contract:

Yeah. KU is committed to making football competitive and have put their money where their mouth is.

I think the investment is wise.

I also expect that tuition will increase significantly in the next 10 years.

Leipold and Self's salaries are capped at what KU itself actually pays them as state employees. The vast majority of their salaries are paid by boosters and donors it would have next to no impact on tuition prices.

Adams, Furphy, and Timberlake went 10-34 from the field and 1-11 from 3. This was a team loss. Role players didn't make anything, Dickinson couldn't make a FT, and defense only showed up for a half.

BYU Thread • Feb 28, 2024 02:31 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10 sure Paul George’s injury is preventable: ban basketball.

Thats my point.

Dropping f bombs doesnt validate yours.

I don't give a shit right now. You dismissing someone getting hurt in a 100% preventable situation and then trying to compare it to a player breaking his leg during a practice in a normal basketball situation is a bullshit argument and you know it because you don't have a valid comeback to court storming being an outdated practice.

Other bball games • Feb 26, 2024 03:11 AM

@approxinfinity said in Other bball games:

@Texas-Hawk-10 ok, a couple people get hurt. We didnt ban basketball when Paul George shattered his leg on a stancheon. Again, just because court storming isnt your cup of tea doesnt mean it isnt someone elses.

Im sure it will get banned, because plenty of people think like you do. That we can make everything dangerous illegal.

I just ask that we stop and smell the roses, and take stock of the side effects of decisions like this.

What the hell does Paul George's broken leg have to do with court storming? That was an injury that occurred during normal basketball activities. Players get hurt during games and practices doing basketball activities, it sucks, but that is part of the sport and not 100% preventable. Injuries caused by court stormings are 100% preventable.

A college player, fans, and reporters shouldn't have to worry about making it off the court safely if the home team wins a fucking game.

Other bball games • Feb 26, 2024 02:33 AM

@approxinfinity https://www.nytimes.com/2016/03/05/sports/ncaabasketball/storming-the-court-a-cherished-rite-can-be-a-danger.html ↗

This is why court storming needs to banned. People do get hurt in these things. A reporter on press row shouldn't have to worry about having his leg/ankle broken just because someone wins a game. And this was at Hilton where KU has absolutely had some near misses with court storming incidents turning into something bigger.

Allen Fieldhouse is always considered one of the best atmospheres in all of sports. Court storming is not part of the culture of Kansas basketball so it is absolutely possible to have that connection and excitement without having to rush onto a playing surface putting others safety in jeopardy after a win.

Other bball games • Feb 26, 2024 01:26 AM

@approxinfinity said in Other bball games:

@Texas-Hawk-10 why play basketball at all? Reduce the risk of injury and dont play any sports.

Why do fans need to be on the court at any point before, during, or after a game? What purpose does that serve other than creating a dangerous environment for all involved?

Other bball games • Feb 26, 2024 12:43 AM

@approxinfinity said in Other bball games:

@Texas-Hawk-10 why does an undesirable outcome
warrant criminalization? I would feel better about pressing charges against the kid who injured Filipowski, even though it appeared to be an accident, than pressing charges against all court stormers. I believe court storming is a connection between fans and the sport.

But my point in that post is that Kyle came to the wrong conclusion. He wasnt injured intentionally.

As for the severity of the injury, I think Duke is hyping it up to garner sympathy.

That's a terrible fucking take on this. And yes, I'm worked up about because it's not something that needs to exist. Why is thus something to be reactive instead of proactive about? What's the narrative going to be when a player eventually gets injured to the point that they do miss the rest of the season? Or worst case for a school, a fan gets paralyzed or killed in a situation like this either getting trampled or falling running down the seats?

I don't care if it's a way for players and fans to connect, it's a dangerous fucking environment and a matter of time before something truly tragic happens.

Don't forget the collective reaction 10 years ago in Manhattan with Jamari Traylor and a KSU fan.

Suck it up dude! Jesus.

Wheres the injury report? Out for the season? Get a grip.

Why does it matter the severity of the injury and why does it matter if it's a Duke player or not?

This is why court/field storming is absolutely unnecessary. He's a 20 year old kid whose team just lost an emotionally charged game that was never more than a 2 possession game. Emotionally charged 20 year olds don't make the smartest decisions so why was he forced to be in that position in the first place surrounded by opposing fans the same general age that also don't make the smartest decisions in emotionally charged situations like court/field stormings?

Ban the practice, and tell schools/fans they will forfeit the game and the other team will declared the winner if any fan enters the field/court of play. Anyone that does storm the court/field after a game also faces criminal charges.

I guarantee there's been plenty fans injured due to getting trampled in court/field stormings that don't get reported on because they're some random kid and not an athlete.

So Clark knocked the wind out of herself? I'm sorry, but GTFO with that take. You don't knock the wind out of yourself flopping.

Not saying Clark flopped, but Bryce Thompson tore his labrum flopping. You can absolutely hurt yourself flopping.

And at what point did Clark go to the ground after she got hit? It wasn't immediately or even after the spin. That means she got hit hard enough on the contact with that fan that it knocked the wind out of her at that point. If Clark had been hit in a different spot that hard, rib injuries then become a possibility as well.

This is going be a very ugly situation for Wake now. Looks like Filipowski got hurt by Wake fans during the court storming. As much as we all hate Duke here, that's not something that should happen.
