Duke and Wake Forest are playing a great game in Winston Salem right now with about 5 minutes left. Wake is currently up 1 amd this name has never been more than a two possession game either way.

I read somewhere that Uconn hasn't beaten a ~~top 10~~ ranked team on the road in a decade. But they have 2 NC's in that time.
Fixed the statement for you.

WTF??? CBS cut away to the start of the Arizona / Washington game!
Maybe they wouldn't if they were ranked ... oh wait, they are.
Maybe if it was a Duke game?
Didn't cut away for me. Probably depends on where you live though.
Missi missed his And One FT for the lead, Shead makes his shot, but it was after the buzzer for Baylor and UH are going to OT.
Baylor only down 3 with 3:34 left.
@kjayhawks said in Other bball games:
Pretty simple to me if Houston can beat Baylor which it looks like they will with ease, they likely win the conference. 2 games up with 4 to go, would take a catastrophic end to the season for them not to win.
UH is two up on Kansas, not two up on 2nd place. ISU is only one back of UH and have a pretty soft schedule left with only OU amd BYU as tournament teams left and both of those games are in Ames.
@stoptheflop said in Other bball games:
So does a Houston loss or Baylor loss benefit KU the most? Or, does it even matter since there's no difference between second and last in the league.
Baylor. KU is 2 games back of Houston amd tied with Baylor. I'm also very skeptical that KU can win a share because I don't think they can win out with road games at Baylor and Houston left and KU is already a game back of ISU and I don't see ISU losing again as BYU is their only tough game left and that's at Hilton.

I know the guy was cleared, but for KU fans, there are eerie ties to Arterio.
Fingers crossed.
Why is it eerie ties to Arterio? The case against Araiza was dropped because the girl admitted she lied about being gang raped. Araiza's situation is much closer to the Duke LaCrosse case than Arterio's case.
LSU just upset Kentucky on an insane final sequence.

@approxinfinity Give him some players. Never got a fair shake imo what’s his face from lsu never tried in Philly either. That’s a player issue. Don’t know the rest of the roster though.
Lack of talent wasn't the issue that got him fired though. A bunch of players sat for a big game against Milwaukee (enough players that Brooklyn got fined for it) and they haven't been playing hard since then.
At the NBA level, an uncompetitive roster is a management issue. A lack of effort is a coaching issue. This was also the big knock on Vaughn in Orlando when he was head coach there as well. Vaughn appears to be much suited as an assistant coach rather than a head coach.

Doubtful we'd be mentioned as a playoff team if it was still just a four team tournament.
KU has an incredibly soft B12 schedule so even in that format, KU would've been mentioned as a dark horse.
@Gorilla72 said in 2024 recruiting thread:
What playing time will there be next year, assuming Dickinson and Juan stay and KJ is a starter. Elmarko will be improved. Furphy will likely be gone as is McCullar. One spot available? Two?
There should be 1 starting spot up for grabs. The 2/3 spot will open because of McCullar. Everything else available is back up minutes. I screwed up my math because I forgot about Arterio's spot still being open.
KU currently has 9 scholarship players, loses 3 to graduation, has 3 signed, and still owes one to the NCAA. So KU can sign 3 right now. A scoring guard is a must, a back up big that can play the 4 or 5 spots should be another transfer and the third spot could be basically any spot at this point.

Am I the only one routinely disappointed with KU's FT shooting? Year after year. KU was 9/18 yesterday; OU hit 17/23, 74%. Come on now, a top ten team must make FTs, especially on the road where Big 12 refs always make sure the home team shoots 5-10 more FTs.
That really hasn't been the case nearly s much this year. - -KU as a team going into yesterday was shooting at 74 %- -pretty solid average - -right there with all other tems in the Big 12 -- just not yesterday
KU is 125th in FT% nationally and 7th in the Big 12. That's not great, but probably to be expected when this isn't a great shooting team.
@kjayhawks said in The Boys Are Back vs OU:
@Texas-Hawk-10 I just want him to stop forcing shots as much as anything else. Had some quick triggers today for sure.
I will agree with that as he had 0 assists and offensive rebounds today and does seem like he's overcompensating his knee injury and trying to force his shots too much. This was also the biggest reason why KU lost in Manhattan as well.
@kjayhawks said in The Boys Are Back vs OU:
@Texas-Hawk-10 he as looked terrible ungodly terrible since the Cincinnati game. Has shot 33% or less from the floor 4 of the last 5 games he has played. Maybe that’s when he hit his knee idk. What I do know is that isn’t above average in any light.
"Maybe that’s when he hit his knee idk."
That's the point that has been made to you repeatedly! His recent bad shooting has been a direct result of his knee injury and playing on a less than 100% knee. As his knee continues to heal and get better, you will see his shooting numbers get back to where they were earlier this season.
@kjayhawks You do realize that Kevin's recent shooting woes have coincided with his knee injury right?
@kjayhawks said in The Boys Are Back vs OU:
@Texas-Hawk-10 either way taking 18 shots to get 19 points isn’t efficient. His averages for shooting are garbage in conference
Well then, good thing his season average is 13.6 FGA per game to get those 19 ppg. Even if he did average 18 shots per game, that's still over a point per FGA which isn't elite, but is still above average.
@kjayhawks said in The Boys Are Back vs OU:
@Texas-Hawk-10 all conference season he has had to shoot it 25 plus time to get to 19 points. Thats not efficient
Now you're talking out of your ass because 18 is the most shots he's taken in a game this season.
@kjayhawks said in The Boys Are Back vs OU:
@Texas-Hawk-10 both have been dropping and after tonight’s game from Kevin, he’ll sink lower. If you can make free throws and wide open shots. The nba ain’t gonna want to deal with you.
Kevin also hasn't playing at 100% and still isn't 100% today. When it's a knee injury, that does affect shooting so, no I don't think the last few games where Kevin has clearly been playing injured have had a major impact on his draft stock because he's still projected in the same general range he's been for the last couple of months.
@Texas-Hawk-10 said in The Boys Are Back vs OU:

Eventually, but not at this point. Kevin is a much more complete player right now than Furphy, but Furphy does have the higher long term ceiling.

I don’t understand how Houston is kicking tail every game. Is Sampson a great recruiter, finding those gems Self and teams miss? Is he a great motivator, every game? Does he have a better all around staff for recruiting and teaching?
-Their defense is physical and fouls aren’t called. They generally hit shots when it counts, either through talent or coaching.
- I was certain they would be an average team in the Big 12, but it turns out KU is the average team. 😫
Kelvin Sampson is a very good basketball coach amd has been for 40+ years, that's why. This is not his first go around in the Big 12. He did coach OU for 12 years and made 11 NCAA Tournaments and only finished outside the top 3 in the Big 8/12 twice, and never had a losing conference record. He also won a Big 12 regular season title, 3 tournament titles, and made a Final Four in 2002. The man has a career .684 winning percentage and is generally considered a top 5 active coach.
@wissox said in Caitlin Clark not moving into 1st....yet:
@Texas-Hawk-10 Do you count any older sports records? Dimaggios 56 game hit streak? Chamberlains 100 point game? Byron Nelson Jr's 11 event win streak? Etc. Etc.
Not at all my point. My point is that when Marion played, there were fewer girls playing basketball so if someone came around with elite level talent like Marion, it was much easier to dominate the game. That's also why so many of Wilt's scoring records still stand as well.
Marion also played prior to the NCAA sponsoring women's basketball. Clark's scoring record is basically the difference between saying KU has 4 or 6 national titles. KU claims 6 national titles in basketball, but only 4 of those are NCAA titles as the first 2 are Helms titles.
Washington is considered the D1 Women's scoring leader, but she's not the NCAA leader since she played her entire career under the AIAW and not the NCAA. It's a technicality.
@wissox I would also say that the overall level of competition Caitlin has gone against is much better than Woodard as women's basketball has greatly improved even in the last 10 years or so.
KU still has 2 spots guaranteed to fill for next season assuming Self is going with 12 scholarship players next season to finish up the 4 scholarship reduction for next season.
Our 3 current incoming freshmen will replace McCullar, Timberlake and Braun. That leaves 2 more spots plus whatever happens with Clemence, Dickinson, Furphy, or anyone else. If Clemence does transfer out like @FarmerJayhawk says will happen, then we have three openings.
I know we have two bigger guards coming in, but one of those open spots needs to reserved for a high major playmaker transfer that can play the 2 as their primary spot. Any other openings should be dedicated to front court depth.
@FarmerJayhawk said in Other bball games:
Wow. Holtmann out at OSU. You don’t see midseason firings very often. Will be a highly sought after gig
OSU is atrocious this year. Never thought we'd see a season where them and Michigan are the bottom feeders of the Big 10, even in basketball. OSU is very similar to Texas in how they view basketball and while it's definitely a good job, I don't know I'd call it an elite job.
I'm also thinking Michigan will probably be open this year as well with how far they've sunk the past couple of seasons.
@BeddieKU23 It's not just Iowa St. Most Big 12 games are starting to resemble the old Big East from 20 years ago with the physicality league wide.
KU is getting a lot of decent looks, just can't make anything tonight.
The defense however is absolutely atrocious tonight.
@FarmerJayhawk said in KU vs Tech chat:
@BeddieKU23 I think we should speed them up since they want to really grind things to a halt. Grant comes from the Bennett/UVA style so at least IMO a faster tempo might help us out
Self's not going to play fast because it sounds like we're again only playing 7 scholarship players tonight and a less than 100% Harris amd if McDowell is dressed out, he'll be less than 100%. Self's going to turn this into a bad ball game and play slow to try and conserve as much energy as possible.
He also said after the Baylor game that there's a lot of similarities between Baylor and Tech so we should see a similar game plan as Saturday.
I don't think he's a good enough player to be what everyone here wants him to be. He has not always been a great shooter and the step up in competition from the CAA to the Big 12 has exposed that in Timberlake.
He's not very quick which is why he struggles on defense and he doesn't have a quickfire release. It's nowhere near Dejuan's slow and low shot, but there's a lot quicker out there too.
Overall, I think this years portal class was a big miss for Self. Braun has serviceable in his role, but Timberlake has been a disappointment and obviously Arterio's stupidity really hurt KU's on court play as he was the guy that could go get his shot whenever and break down a defender.
@kjayhawks said in McCullar out vs Baylor:
@Texas-Hawk-10 I don’t remember that team having much of a bench at all with KJ Lawson, a D3 caliber player getting minutes. Vick was the best player on that team and Doke when he was healthy. That could’ve been a solid group had Vick not gone nuts and Doke gotten hurt. Those two things killed the depth.
That season was weird because KU had so many different starting line ups due to various issues. Marcus Garrett did come off the bench for most of the season. David McCormack came off the bench most of the season. Mitch Lightfoot and Charlie Moore were also main bench players.
I'm not going to claim that bench was among Self's best, but it was better and deeper than this season's bench.
@Gorilla72 said in McCullar out vs Baylor:
Self is really unhappy with Timberlake. Who’s next up after El Marko? Should Jank get some run?
There's a reason Timberlake was at Towson and not a high major. KU is still going to need another shooter next season, and it would be preferable if that shooter came from another high major program where his shooting stats should translate pretty well.
@kjayhawks said in McCullar out vs Baylor:
@Texas-Hawk-10 this team just looks ugly 90% of the time at this point. Tonight is a little bit different in terms of missing our leading scorer and I’m glad we won a gutsy performance. But my gosh you are a 100% correct this maybe the worst bench in the Self era. 2019 and 2012 come to mind but I think this worse. I know people compare this team to the 19 team a fair amount but I think this team would destroy that team by a wide margin.
2019 was a very young team. Dotson, Grimes, Agbaji, and McCormack were all freshmen that season, Marcus Garrett was a sophomore, and Dedric Lawson was a first year player for Self. Lagerald Vick was the only upper classmam in tge rotation that season that came up theough Self's system. That team also had more depth than this team because they had to deal with Doke's injury and Vick getting kicked off the team. That team had Ochai Agbaji redshirting to start the year. That team also had the better bench by far because there was at least some production on a nightly basis.
Ugly win, but it's a win. KU only scored 41 points over the last 30 minutes of the game.
-17 in rebounds, only 11 assists on 24 made FG's, Elmarko played 21 minutes and did not attempt a shot officially and Parker took 2 FG's in 8 minutes. 2 FG's attempts in 29 minutes from the bench is just terrible.
Also, why did KU not adjust to the drive and kick Baylor ran ad nauseum tonight? KU was lucky Baylor was shooting like garbage tonight too.
I'd much rather sit McCullar now and let him get healthy than play him and have him play like shit again like he did against KSU.
DK McDonald was officially announced as the new Co-DC and CB's coach.

For serious, we were so, so, so bad tonight and we won’t replicate that again. And those other teams will lose some weird ones too. It’s just too early. My honest opinion is the Big 12 (and really all of college hoops) is pretty bad and making any kind of concrete predictions is foolhardy.
We're more than halfway through Big 12 play, it's not early anymore. KU was bad again tonight, and you say KU won't replicate that, but they've replicated that 5 times now and only won one of those games and that was the Indiana game. This team has played like shit on the road this year and that's happened in 5 of their 6 road games. That's not an exception at this point, that's what this team is and the OSU game in Stillwater is the exception.

@Texas-Hawk-10 if they win tonight arguably, everyone has bad losses this season. Doesn’t matter now, I honestly think we get bounced first round as a 3 seed. Highlight this when it happens.
Arizona is the only other team in the top 20 of the NET to have a loss against a sub 100 team, so no, not every team have bad losses on par with the WVU loss.
@kjayhawks said in KU vs Octagon of Tang Doom Game Chat.:
@Texas-Hawk-10 if they won the right games I think they did pending on who lost. Right now they have 2 wins vs number 1 seeds. If not for an embarrassing loss in Morgantown and tonight.
Do you really think this team is winning enough road games this year to get on the 1 line? The NCAA uses the NET rankings as the biggest determining factor in seeding. KU is going to be a 2 or 3 seed this year. The best KU can do now is 3-3 against the bottom feeders of the Big 12 this year. Yes, all the top teams are flawed this year, but KU's flaws are enough to keep them off the one line when you can't beat 3 of the bottom 4 teams in your league on the road. That's what mid pack teams do.

This team sucks ass in true road games this year. 2-4 in true road games and easily could be 1-5 had Indiana not shit the bed down the stretch. Based on current NET rankings, KU has lost to 11, 67, 83, and 144 and our 2 wins are over the teams currently ranked 103 and 139. KU is now 2-3 overall against the bottom 4 teams in the Big 12 in the NET rankings and 1-3 on the road.
The remaining true road games for KU are against teams currently ranked 1, 15, 32, and 33 in the NET.

After such an enthralling victory Saturday a letdown is an unfortunate possibility. Given we're 1-3 on the road in league play I don't expect it to be easy. This should be a victory, but I certainly thought the same when we played Central Florida Senior Citizen Retirement Home and West Virginia Hillbilly St. They just got thumped at home against Oklahoma St. (did I read that right?) But have some nice home wins like against Baylor especially. Crowd will be jacked as usual, dreaming of storming the court, trying to text their mommas on their flip phones, driving home in their Four Old Rusty Doors cars etc. I don't care if we win by 1 or 50, as long as we win.
This game is critical if we want to win the conference championship. This is arguably the most winnable of the remaining road games. We're favored. With the remaining road games, it's hard to see even one more win. We need this, one more road win (OU, TTU?), and hopefully hold serve at AFH, which is no sure thing. That gets us to 12-6. Can we get one more road win? I think 13-5 wins this year. Regardless, we simply can't afford to lose another road game to a bottom half conference foe...
u understandable what you say , and yet it's not like we are the only one's having trouble on the road. - -This league is an absolute blood bath. - I've said this before- - -there are no give me's in this league , you best bring your A game every night or your gonna lose. - -Look at UCF they are like 4-5 in the league - -not sure about you I just didn't think that would happen , and obviously there were some other people that didn't think so either -and they took an L.-- -All the teams on a given night can get beat no matter where your at. - Just got to avoid the let down , I worry about tired legs this Saturday/Monday and our mental state after coming off such a huge win - -not gonna be easy. They better have their heads in the game , can't afford and long scoring droughts.
If you wanna go off stats ere better in almost every area - -think is they are stats - stats don't help during a live game - -in the end I think we pull this out. I WILL say this again watch out for quick whistles against us and either Hunter or Kevin getting in foul trouble early - wew are in the Apple strange things might go on
Other teams are struggling on the road, but none of the other contenders have a loss in Morgantown or Orlando which could be the difference in the final standings. Tonight is a must win for KU's Big 12 title chances.
