A Hypothetical • Jul 31, 2018 03:39 PM

@JayHawkFanToo I have said this before, but KU is going to be on the same playing field as other openings when it comes to coaches. For example if Michigan struggles ( by their standards) and fire Harbaugh KU is not going to attract the same level of coach or even be going after the same level of coaches as Michigan or really 99% of any other P5 team that is looking for a new coach.

So the "get ahead of the competition" makes no sense in this situation. People are going to be wildly dissapointed when the candidates come out of who is willing to take this job right now.

A Hypothetical • Jul 30, 2018 09:20 PM

I think the only person on this staff that you keep is Hull is possible. However, once Beaty is fired I think SEC schools will come swooping in and lure Hull. I am actually a little surprised he didn't get a offer this off season.

I personally have not been impressed with Meacham enough to want to keep him around.
KU has to find someone who has done this at this level and had some sort of successes. Whether that is possible or not remains to be seen.

Found this interesting. Could Lewis be looking at KU for 2018 with a open scholarship available?

Surprised it took this long.

Matt Scott Appears To Be Done At 247 • Jul 20, 2018 05:03 PM

That’s awesome news. Matt always provides great content and this will be free.

Malik was just waived by the Lakers. Hope he had a backup plan. Might need to head overseas for the year .

Back to Sacramento. Not sure if they will cut him or if they are going to retain him. He has had one disappointing NBA career thus far.

Need bodies on the OL. Can’t hurt.

Not sure where KU stands with Will Baker , but I saw a lot of tweets about how well he played this past week in Atlanta.

What happened to the Royals? • Jul 14, 2018 05:38 PM

It was in another thread but go back and look at their high draft picks the last 5 or so years. Just absolutely dreadful. When you are a small market team you have to hit on draft picks especially ones in the top 10. For all the praise Dayton gets his drafting has been sub par.

I too would give Beaty the whole year, but would have Long working in the background gathering candidates and coaches.

I personally don’t think it matters if KU is “first in line” because they are just not going to attract the same candidates as other P5 programs right now.

Vick will wear #24 this year.

Maryland Subpoenaed by FBI • Jul 06, 2018 04:52 PM

I would assume that KU will be subpoenased sometime in the future regarding Silvio.

@Texas-Hawk-10 Bielema went 68-24 at Wisconsin in 7 seasons. He may have "inherited" something but he obviously kept it going.

Also going into Arkansas and going into Kansas are not close to the same thing. Arkansas has unreal expectations of that they are and are in the toughest division in CFB. KU fans want to see progress and at this point would be happy with 5-7 wins a year. Not even remotely close.

Maryland Subpoenaed by FBI • Jul 06, 2018 03:25 PM

Maryland has been subpoenaed by the FBI and Silvio is one of the recruits mentioned.

I think Veneables is waiting for KSU to open up. He would be a fine hire, but in 2-3 years when Snyder steps down he run a huge risk of losing him.

I personally do not think Veneables would even be interested in the KU job.

Jeff Long = New AD • Jul 06, 2018 02:58 PM

I think Willie Fritz has to be on the short list of names Long is considering. I guess it just depends on what direction he wants to go.

@justanotherfan I agree. KU needs to become more competitive in ALL sports.

I just don’t think Veneables would consider the job. He’s had to of been offered better jobs and passed on them. Is he waiting on KSU? Who knows but I just don’t think he would be interested.

@jayballer73 Miles is 64 so like I said it’s not a long term fix, but he could stabilize the program for 5 years and then the job is more attractive next time around. He was not coaching last year. He did some studio work for Fox I believe.

I think it will be Bielema, Miles, or Hoke. I think he’s got to find someone to come in and stabilize the program. He doesn’t need to find someone who he thinks is going to be here long term. ( not sure anyone views KU as long term) I don’t think he can gamble with a young guy at a non P5 school with this hire. Find someone who has done it before and knows WTF they are doing.

I personally wouldn’t mind Miles. He could probably keep the Louisiana connection with the recruits we got going and he obviously knows how to win. I don’t think he would jump ship too fast either.

I wouldn’t be mad about Bielema either, but it would just be a stepping stone to another SEC job or bigger job for him. So he might only be here 3-5 years pending successes.

@HighEliteMajor I would be doing back flips if we could get either Bielema or Petrino.

Combine that with his football hires being less than stellar, Bobby Petrino sleeping with a volleyball player and having another mistress while at Arkansas, Bret Bielema was not good as well.

Bielema on paper was a good hire. Unfortunately, he wasn't ready to make the jump from the Big 10 to the SEC from a recruiting and speed perspective. His last three Wisconsin teams went to the Rose Bowl (although the last squad wouldn't have gone had Penn State and Ohio State both not been under sanctions). Also, coaching in the SEC West with Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Texas A&M all in your division isn't exactly a picnic.

As for Petrino, you can't hold Long responsible for Petrino's personal issues. And once that stuff came out, he had to get rid of him because there was misuse of department funds and an inappropriate relationship with another student athlete (either one is a fireable offense, so pick your reason here).

This is a lot of well dumb to be honest. If you are not happy or impressed with this hire then there is nobody realistically Girod could have hired that you would have been happy with. Some people are like that. Just like to bitch and moan and that's fine if that is you thing.

Jeff Long = New AD • Jul 05, 2018 06:57 PM

He was fired at Arkansas because he stuck by Bert and would not fire him after a 4-7 start. To be able to lure Bert from Wisconsin was considered one of the best hires in recent history. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

He also help spearhead a $320 million campaign fund while at Arkansas with $160M of that going to renovate the football stadium.

So I would assume he knows a thing or two about fundraising. He is also one of only two guys that have been the head of the CFB playoff committee. His resume speaks for itself.

Jeff Long = New AD • Jul 05, 2018 06:34 PM

It has been announced that Jeff Long the former Arkansas and Pitt AD will be the new AD at KU. His salary of 1.5M will put him #2 in the Big 12 just behind OU's AD.

Awesome hire by Girod. I think Long was the best candidate out there and KU got him. Congrats to Girod and the whole KU athletics team.

@Kcmatt7 Agree. The Sixers are so young. They are only going to get better. Plus they are adding Shamet and Zhaire Smith into the mix this season.

Lakers making sure they have the cap space in 2019 to sign two star players.

Good move by Golden State to sign Cousins. He's a rare player that could come back from Achilles surgery and return to close to form because he isn't an explosive player. His game is predicated around speed and quickness, or explosive leaping ability like a Blake Griffin or Anthony Davis. Because of that, he could still be effective provided there are no other lingering effects like lack of flexibility, etc.

Next years finals are shaping up to be Golden State and Boston. I don't see anyone in the East that can challenge Boston unless the Bucks or Pacers have someone internally take a big leap. And Golden State with Cousins certainly did not take a step back. Lebron doesn't have enough help in LA right now to challenge them. I'm guessing Lebron will take it easy this year, see which of the younger Laker players develops and then bring in help for 2019-20.

The Sixers can't challenge in the East? They are better than the Bucks and Pacers.

I saw this as well. I think Cunliffe is one guy who might have transferred again and just lost a year of eligibility, but I’m not sure who else he would be talking about...

I know you aren't familiar with me, but I promise I'm not "that" guy. Having said that, it would be way more amazing to me if KU actually DID find a competent QB. Who would want to come to KU to play football? It'd have to be someone with ties to the area/University. Either that, or they just luck into a good QB that was flying under the radar.

I mean they have a kid in Legeandre (sp) committed right now for the 19 class who has offers from Bama and FSU. I understand it’s a long ways from over in terms of football recruiting , but it shows that getting one that has potential is there.

As is being discussed in this thread our OL has been dreadful and this year they are lacking in numbers so it’s hard to pin it all on the QB, but they obviously must be better at that position to start making progress.

2019 Recruiting • Jul 02, 2018 07:41 PM

Rivals is releasing their new rankings this week and did a sneak peak of their top 10. JRE made a nice jump up to #9 and Hurt is #5. Need to find a way to get both of them.

Svi and Malik have a new teammate • Jul 02, 2018 07:40 PM

I just saw where one off shore book has mad the Lakers the favorite to win the title next year. So maybe they know something about some other players coming over this year. ( Cousins and Leonard)?? I guess this is the same book that moved the Lakers odds of landing LeBron to -5000 so they clearly know someone you would think.

Who do you want at QB? • Jul 02, 2018 07:38 PM

I am hoping it is Kendrick. First of all that means in the eyes of the coaches he is better than the other two who we know can not get the job done. If one of the other two win the job then that is going to be very disappointing. I agree with @Texas-Hawk-10 that the QB position has been Beaty's biggest downfall. In this day and age it is amazing to me that KU can not find a competent QB.

2019 Recruiting • Jul 02, 2018 12:16 PM

If the staff misses out on Earl it would be a huge miss for them. They have been recruiting him for a long long time. I don’t think landing hurt will hurt our chances at all with JRE. Obviously the staff has been going hard after both and has a sales pitch that they can coexist. I will be pretty disappointed if the don’t land JRE.

If they do miss I wonder if they start recruiting Chandler Lawson again??

Vick Coming Back • Jun 30, 2018 01:26 PM

Just for discussion purposes... Anyone see this as possibly being a negative. Vick played 30-35 minutes a game last year had the green light and everything. Now he’s walking into a situation where he will get let’s say 20 minutes a game and his shot selection will have to change as well as his defensive intensity / effort. I could easily see a situation where Vick gets into the season and becomes a “bad seed” ( for lack of better term) in the locker room.

I know most think this could only be a positive but I’m not sold on that. Chemistry is a huge X factor when trying to cut nets down.
