Ok. We good? Move on?
@BShark I'm not understanding. What happened?
@wissox :) have my moments.
It's that time of year where people go all in on snark with nothing better to do. Natural blood letting in the summer. Used to it by now.
@wissox just me being dumb! All better now.
....and we're back. On a road trip. WiFi hotspot ftw! Hopefully you find my chronic procrastinstion on ssl cert renewal an endearing trait :) I love you all.
@Texas-Hawk-10 I read that as "if it's uhhhhh" :)
I do wish him well, but I also hope that Self knows what he's doing and that he didnt make a big mistake with Grimes. So I don't wish him POY well. Just "competent starting PG" well.
@Texas-Hawk-10 I didn't take fart to be solely a criticism of the kid, I took it as an anticlimactic noise signifying the end of an underwhelming situation. Would Grimes have been a first round pick had he attended another school this year? It's very hard to believe that, given his combine if not his season. So he came to Kansas and was asked to do what Kansas wanted. He could have improved at the wing.
Was there any better opportunity presented him at another successful program last year? Or was his only better option attending Kansas but to be used differently? And if he had been used on ball more or in post ups, do we know that would have worked well with the rest of the personnel? Would we have Devon back next year? Who knows? I wanted to see Q on ball about midseason but gave up wanting that when Devon started to kick ass. I just wonder if there was any program high enough profile with the opportunity Q wanted available to him. Is it fair to judge your post in a year, barring some derailment, assuming he lasts at a program that uses him as he wanted?
@Texas-Hawk-10 great point.
@BeddieKU23 agreed. We are all amped to see what this team can be but the truth is its alot of speculation until it's here. Tyshawns comments about it being a young team reminded me. The more we can approach this as a growing year with a championship ceiling and a first weekend exit floor until we get deep into conference play , the more we can enjoy the bumps along the road as these guys find cohesion and roles. The sky's the limit but we're currently assembling our wings and probably will be for a good part of the season.
@HighEliteMajor wow. I missed that one first go around. Thanks for sharing.
Did you learn that at a university?
@dylands its more west of menards, something's gone wrong.
@KUSTEVE I'm in awe of the guy who transformed his body from this: !?8aff03de2423e912a2467e97388a07f5331c05b6" target="_blank" rel="noopener">

Pretty sure this guy can lead by example.
Does Luka Doncic = Trae Young + Cam Reddish?
The Hawks' #10 pick this year was the pick they got from Dallas for trading Luka Doncic for Trae Young. If Reddish is a bust, then it wasn't worth it.
The charge seems pretty weak. What a mess.

Hearing him talk about his time at KU is great!
Interesting to hear him calling the team a young team, while we think about how much experience we return. They don't make teams like they used to, Tyshawn :)
Tyshawn only one without a Kansas shirt on. Deliberate? :thinking:
(joking)
@dylans are you saying that he's the exception to what Self's looking for and so he stands out? I imagine Garrett reminds Self of his youth, back when the world was young and he believed that defense wins championships. Self got hurt bad by the killer BB losses and while his analytics told him "more possessions and more O, and embrace the OAD", his heart whispered "Marcus garrettttttttt" and that's how Marcus Garrett, KU jackknife and 2019-20 hero of the Jayhawk People was born.
@marco yeah it's got to be euro league. Hes not going to be a plus rebounder with height but no vert in NBA. Z bo might be a decent comp that stuck in NBA and the guy probably had 50 lbs on him.
@Marco it's hard to say. We never got to see more than hero ball from Dedric and his D was abysmal. I'd say no.
With the 19th pick, the San Antonio Spurs select Luka ....Doncic. We wants him. Is he still available?
Russ Rob looks jacked.
@HighEliteMajor dig it. I think you're right. Makes sense.

Quick twitch is helpful, but not required in D1. Proper positioning is more important (hedging). At the pro level, they need everything.
I've come to realize that hedging isn't part of the coaching at Kansas (or at most D1 schools). It's a pity to give up such an advantage.
It is a relatively recent departure from hedging for Kansas, basically in the OAD era. Hopefully it returns.
CP3 wants out. I think it would be cool for him to go back to New Orleans and finish his career throwing lobs to Zion, Ingram and the rest of the young scoop. THE OOP SCOOP!
A group of pelicans has many collective nouns, including a "brief", "pod", "pouch", "scoop", and "squadron" of pelicans
@BShark exactly about Dedric.
@drgnslayr if Wilson consistently plays good d then i won't question his attitude, and I'll be happy to be wrong. But that requires a combination of lateral quickness and commitment. Hard to believe he can play perimeter d well but not jump. Don't you need quick twitch to stay with a man too? We will see if he has it.
I'm just nervous. The chemistry on the team seemed so perfect, so I see Jalen as the most likely risk to that chemistry. Having a less athletic guy who is a top 50 recruit and best friends with a top 10 guy, if he rides pine could be an unhappy camper. I don't want that on the bench. Hope Im unnecessarily worried.

@FarmerJayhawk It's not really about Dave starting over Silvio because that's not likely to happen. It's more about whether or not Dave could back up Silvio. If Mitch redshirts, a back up 4 is the one potential weakness on this roster. Jalen Wilson's athleticism is a big issue because he's in the Brannen Greene, Quinton Grimes range of athleticism.
Yeah I'm already wondering how taking on Jalen was a good idea. This kid better have steel nerves and dedication. More Perry, less Q and Green.
@drgnslayr I just visualized a scorers table with subs checking in that inspire me. oooooo... November comes after June right?
Sorry, I thought it was funny. Carry on

Agbaji is going to tear it up this year. This team can be a juggernaut defensively, and mix and match defensively.
This is one thing we are in agreement on now.
I've seen the light @HighEliteMajor
Well, this is definitely a "big tent" item ... all are invited.
Woh woh woh! Tmi
@BShark That's right Bunk.
@drgnslayr i think Big Dave could be part of that lockdown defensive unit. He may surprise with his speed. I think he can close out on the perimeter much faster than Doke
In order to be called sped up you gotta first be fast. Daves going to punish teams on both ends once he figures it all out. Quick and huge, motivated and smart.
Additional correction: Kawhi and Gasol can opt out of this next year.
Any wurd on last schollie?
@dylans Do you assume that if its Irving or Walker you're talkign 21mil to 25mil per year? Leaving 10 mil to pay 8 more guys? If not, what All-Star is going to take less money?
Correction : I thought the Lakers traded next 3 years but they didn't. It's this one, the 2021 one and a pick swap for 2023 I think. So they still could draft someone impactful in the LeBron era.
Does it matter? If Doke gets hurt just pull off the redshirt right? Is there much red tape there?
35 mil in salary cap. Lakers have to spend very wisely. Comparing this to the Kawhi trade, that was a trade for Derozen (flawed all star) , poetl (talented project) and a first rounder, and also got Danny Green back, another key guy. And looking at Toronto's salaries they have only one bad contract on the books (norman Powell). They don't win without Siakham on a rookie contract or homegrown Van Fliet. They have Kawhi under contract another year, something the Lakers won't get from AD trade. And the rest of their team is under contract 1 more year too save Green who is an easy resign if they want him. Theyve got other young guys and their draft stream remains in their control (I think).
https://www.basketball-reference.com/contracts/TOR.html ↗
Lakers have no roster and have sold the farm. Any FA they sign has leverage. Their draft is gone for 3 years.
If Kuzma Bonga and Wagner develop into studs that would go a long way, as they are under control for several years. But I don't see that happening. Kuzma maybe.
If they go Big 3 and get one more star in the 23mil range I don't think you can do enough with 12 mil to fill out the rest of the roster.

(Pre trade salaries, not updated yet)
When was the last time Self had a redshirt senior that wasnt redshirted by another program? Maybe this becomes relevant again with 50-150 rated guys? But there isn't much of a precedent I don't think.

@approxinfinity So we really only disagree on Wilson. I don't think he's a world beater but I really think we do need his shooting and he is much more ready than Enaruna or Braun.
Isnt he going to get abused on D? And is he really that good a shooter? I don't think the pluses outweight the minuses having him on the floor until he gets Hudyized.

Me too man. I want to see more. Kid reminds me of Frank too the way he high points his J
First guess without looking at last year's minutes:
Dot 31 (we have depth, can preserve him)
Garrett 26 (Pet. D leader. Good dude. We will beat teams bad enough to let this happen.
Ochai 25
Silvio (Doke will need rest and Wilson isn't ready) 25
Doke 26 (unless hurt)
Moss 22
Dave 17 (unless Doke hurt)
Wilson 7
McBride 7
Mitch 7
Enanura 3
Wave The Wheat 1
Also, I agree more with your numbers in big games. Except Wilson.
