@Bwag while i agree Frank learned to drive and kick I would never say Frank was a terrible finisher. He always had freakishly good body control on his drive, with the ability to finish many ways through contact.
Carpe biggums!
@jaybate-1-0 enjoyable read buddy! I must confess I had given up on Malik though I assumed there would be some future upswing. I think Self's juggling of Garrett and Newman has been perfectly fair to both. I missed the congrats to Svi on the assist. Assists, attititude, the rebounding effort, and the slashes are all welcome features. The threes from Malik are "a sometimes food". I'm excited for Malik to inherit the drive and kick game from DTae that DTae has been encouraged to do last couple games. Save some wear and tear on him and keep that dimension to our game. Also I wonder if this might mean we can give Garrett more minutes at the 3 when we need Svis matador d to hit the pine.
I'm rewatching the game, realizing Garrett had a pretty decent outing for us last night. Yeah, he didn't score much, but he got 6 rebounds, 1 turnover, and was in the flow of the offense. His one FG was a huge one right after TCU got their first lead 71-70 with 5 to go, on a sharp back cut.
@JayHawkFanToo haha I see what you did there. good one
@Fightsongwriter :100:% think this is the case.
Just amazing energy! WOW! JUST WOW! from rags to mitches! 99 problems but a mitch aint one! #mitchismo!
Young is finding a groove. Can't throw lazy passes without checking where he is WV.
WV looks sleepy coming out of the half. Here comes OU.
Is Kadeem Lattin a 6th year senior? Feels like forever.
Some of those Trae acted like he got mugged, just got stripped doing something obvious.
Watching OU vs WV. Carter is kicking ass first half!
They're talking about Danny Manning extensively during the Oklahoma State Iowa State game. What kind of weird alternate universe is this where they talk about Kansas during other games?
@jaybate-1.0 excellent! thanks for the update. I'll tell the NSA backed Chinese hackers to stop messing with your account.
It won't be a styyyyylish server.... I can't afford anurver...... ;)
Lol. Come on guys, settle down.
Alright, we're back (all done)! Thanks for your patience.
:) Ok, going to start now!
It's that time again.. I have to renew the board SSL cert this evening. Should just be a couple minutes, maybe around 10 EST.
Weird. I'm not sure why this would be. I've seen issues on occasion that usually resolve by reloading the site or signing out and back in.
@cragarhawk thanks for the scoop! :fingers_crossed:
@justanotherfan is it rules that limits those relationships or is it that the former hawks are off living their own lives?
@Red.Rooster I appreciate you too buddy! Enjoyed imagining your path from rodeo rider to computer science. What a trip!

Has Newman made one play all season where you were like oh wow that's nice? I watched him in particular last night and he picks and chooses where to exert effort. Some plays his defense is stellar, some plays offensively he makes the right read, pass etc but there is very little consistent effort in his game. If I was Self I'd be trying figure how to motivate him.
I had the same thought last night, so I started looking for it. There was a decent dunk in transition I appreciated. But it was the expected play. Between this thought and I think @cragarhawk throwing out the Langford comp and the knowledge that 2 top 10 guys are coming in next year I'm concerned Malik is smack dab in the middle of the triangle of stress, injury and despair, and is far far away from being what he could be. I think he might get be a really good player I just don't know that it can happen at Kansas.
@RockChalkinTexas awesome! Guys were money today. Looking forward to hearing more of your impressions from the game.
Also funny how Vick gets a us a quiet 21 on 5 of 8 from 3 and I just remember DT and Svi shooting threes with the exception of a super athletic contested catch and shoot from a dead sprint in the corner from Vick. I would not be surprised if Vick ends up with an NBA career. Wait til he shows up at the combine and people wonder who this kid who averaged 16 for Kansas is with a 40% trey gun and they watch him jump out the building.
@HighEliteMajor yup! Mitch wins us a couple possessions each game, and lately with his rebounding not being as much of a liability he has been consistently a net plus in his minutes. Quietly developing into a solid piece.
Really liked how Doke came out second half. I agree he is skilled and I think takes an academic approach to the game. Like a bigger, more raw version of Perry. Hard work in the gym means he's got a bag of moves but he doesn't necessarily go to them without prompting from Self. the game hasn't slowed down enough to adapt reflexively.
I think re: Svi we will see much more hot than cold this year. He has been money. I'm blown away with his ability to hit big shots with the game in the balance. every bit as clutch as Devonte in that.
At the half Devonte had 16 and rest of team has 25. At game end the scoring was very balanced and Devonte had 8 assists. Devonte has been proving himself capable of different roles on demand. Really great. I feel like this adaptability can only bode well coming from your leader and only really hurts you when they are off and the team around them stinks. Hopefully our bigs get cleared and then a creative PG will be most effective.
Echo your feelings about Malik. He needs to get to a place where he is in a groove, but I'm afraid being on a loaded blue blood with top 10 guards incoming is rattling him. I trust Self on his decision to let him play through for the time being. I'm assuming Self knows his ceiling is higher than his current play.
Really happy with the effort! Solid win.
@HighEliteMajor agree with everything you said except that it seems like a disproportionate number of Mitch's blocks ignite fast breaks. It seems he has good control of keeping the ball in play and deflecting it to teammates.
If silvio plays for us this half year would he be eligible to declare for draft?
@JayHawkFanToo i will hope too of course, but I'm curious if our tempered expectations on this year's post season has heightened the importance of the streak this year?
@drgnslayr Rock chalk! Next year we are planning to reboot our garden. Looking forward to talking with you about it after we cut down the nets in April!
@jayballer54 you too buddy. Be safe and wish our burnt orange friends well for me, and whatever other exotic message boards you might wander to this holiday season. Merry Christmas!
@Blown nice! That will be very interesting. I liked how the players were very optimistic after the 2006 loss to an experienced Bradley team and that the feeling was completely different than after the Bucknell loss. We sometimes tend to lump losses together and gloss over the differences.
:notes: Silvio is coming to toooown.... :notes:
Merry Christmas all my fellow KU basketball addicts! I have a deep and pervading affection for all your affectations! Thank you for being you!
I've been voraciously reading Beyond the Streak. Great stuff! Would love to start a book club thread with a spoiler alert disclaimer to discuss some of the things that they address. Let me know who has it / is getting it. I'm on page 40. That is right about the 2005-06 Big 12 championship revenge game against Texas. It's slow going because I find myself reflecting on every game or event they discuss, and then what it has meant for every subsequent generation of Jayhawks and our perceptions, recruiting, Self's philosophies, etc. It's like reading this board except where @jaybate-1-0 has turned into Stephen Vinson, @HighEliteMajor has turned into Matt Kleinmann, @Crimsonorblue22 has turned into RussRob and @wrwlumpy has turned into Mario Chalmers.
Anyway.. merry Christmas and remember, the streak survived Aldridge, Daniel Gibson, AJ Abrams and PJ Tucker when we had Vinson, Moody, Hawkins, Kleinmann and a bunch of freshmen and sophomores! Buckle up guys, it's going to be a hell of a ride.
@big12basketblog Just read through your blog. Thank you for sharing! Awesome stuff.
@REHawk haha nice!
@HawkChamp Thinking you're right.
@Kubie Wow, that's fantastic! Saw the blocks on the stat line, was wondering who it was. One wooden award winner to another... :)
Thanks ladies and gents
My birthday present:
Good point. Well they got Kentucky and Wisconsin right I guess. Two out of the non-commital forve ain't bad.
@jayballer54 I got goosebumps reading your post. We are going to tear this league up with those two plus Cundiffe on board.
In doing some light internet stalking of Dan D, trying to see if anyone else complained or explained his comments about the smell inside Allen Fieldhouse, I came across this article, claiming Kansas was a shoo-in for the Final 4 in 2014-2015:
http://www2.kusports.com/news/2015/feb/05/experts-say-ku-final-4-shoo-/ ↗
I then looked at the roster for that year... Every time I look at rosters of old, I'm amazed at how we did anything special that year, let alone have the heads vote 100% for us "most likely to make it to the Final 4". The panel consisted of: Jay Bilas, Dan Dakich, Sean Farnham, Fran Fraschilla, John Gasaway, Goodman, Seth Greenberg and Joe Lunardi.

I have a feeling that next year, with the undisputed preseason talent that will be on our team, the talking heads will all fall in line talking up Kansas. They'll have to.
@KUSTEVE lolol. :100:
@Crimsonorblue22 @Texas-Hawk-10 This does raise an interesting question: How much influence do coaches have in the announcers that cover their games? Do you think Coach K and Duke has had any influence on who covers them over the years?
@wissox lol that was classic :)
@Crimsonorblue22 I think he thinks he can. Do you think this is the last we'll see of Dickish Dan?
@Texas-Hawk-10 We live in an era where public figures gleefully celebrate their ineptitude and the public's hatred for them, knowing full well that they won't feel any repercussions as long as they dance the dance their bosses tell them to and they don't get caught harassing women.
@wrwlumpy didn't know you use pixlr. Love that site.
