lets go man make em!
5.3 left, Baylor shooting 2!
Unbelievably bad pass by Baylor with 17. 9 left up by one to give TT ball back.
His post game interview was energetic, confident and engaging. Very impressive everything from Doke tonight.
Wish Self would let Doke play through 3 fouls.
@Blown I'll guess 7 of 16. Xavier, Auburn, Duke, UNC, Michigan State, Ohio State and Arizona
@JayHawkFanToo this reminds me of my kids last basketball game. A girl kept mauling my son in the paint. On one of their possessions her coach said "you can't grab and push him". She said "That's how you play defense" . He said "except we're on offense." I congratulated her after the game for playing such tough "defense". And I congratulate you and HEM on such a spirited "sports discussion" :rolling_eyes: :grin: :grimacing:
@BShark Nick Fazekas is cowering somewhere.
@FarmerJayhawk thanks for the insights. Are you optimistic that we will have as much success closing the deal on our targets as we did with the 2018 class?
@mayjay haha too funny
@jayballer73 Weird. I revoked both the sessions I saw on your @Jayballer54 account. Grasping at straws myself, but possible that the board doesn't work well with Edge browser. Historically, Microsoft browsers have been the bane of web devs, wouldn't surprise me if there is a bug with the board that is Edge specific. Anyway, if you want to try to authenticate again with your old account, maybe it will work now that I revoked the sessions. Also, a long shot, but you renamed from jayballer (lowercase j) to whipperboy then Jayballer (uppercase j). I doubt that is the cause of anything, but the only other thing I noticed that seemed like a variant.
Nice breakdown of what Russia did to get banned from the olympics on The Daily today: https://www.nytimes.com/podcasts/the-daily β
Ties the efforts clearly to the Kremlin.
In contrast, heard an announcer mention in passing that the American luger was a "Soldier Athlete". Apparently the US has some soldiers training all day in certain sports.
The things superpowers do to appear to have a healthy, dominant sports ecosystem...
@justanotherfan Yep. You're right :100: . Still don't like him.
@big12basketblog question about your analysis of us against TT in your January 4th edition...
Noticed in that play when the ball goes to the weakside after the Doke screen, Doke drops, I think he's got a switch on him and instead of posting on the weakside he stays on the left side behind the defender with Vick and Svi standing right next to each other in the corner behind him and Devonte walking around. Svi eventually shoves Vick to make him move. But my question is...
Why does Doke not seal his man and post on the weakside? Is this just our offense, and we always stick to keeping our big on the opposite side, letting the guard penetrate and lob? Do we ever post the big weakside there?
It has been great to watch these two grow into men. Svi from the corner is as money this year as B Rush ever was. And the effort he has been playing with on D the last two games has been fantastic.
Self is the anti gipetto. He wants to make Devonte wooden.
Our shooting % dropped because Bruce Weber tightens one rim and tells his players if they can weather the storm in the first half, shooting in the second half will be easy.
@BeddieKU23 nice find!
@BShark lol
Yeah that would be the easiest. If there is a nodebb spoiler plugin that someone wrote i would be happy to try it. If not I don't really have the bandwidth to write one.
@Kcmatt7 I never said it was more important; I said absolves them.
@Crimsonorblue22 said:
Iβd rather my kids not ever be jerks!
Exactly.
@dylans wow, what a d--k.
@Kcmatt7 He ran Mike Brown out in 2009, then left anyway. When he went back to Cleveland, he got Blatt hired before he ran him out.
He meddles with the roster and he humiliates his teammates because he needs a dog to kick.
@Kcmatt7 Weird times we live in where a man staying with the mother of their children absolves them of being a self-absorbed d--k in their professional career and when they're interviewed and makes them a role model.
I'd think the staff wouldn't recruit Grayson level crazy but we did recruit crazy as recent as Anrio.
@Kcmatt7 if attititude encompasses being stupid, selfish, mean-spirited, psychotic, and soft, I'm inclined to agree. I would say there are many facets to his cruddy attitude.
@wissox you too! Love hearing everyone's backstory.
That game was absolutely winnable. Had we won that game, another week with Langford on the mend I would think we would have been the favorite with 20-20 hindsight. That game was all Jarrett Jack. Look at his stat line. It was massive.
I became a fan in 2003 the year the woman who would become my wife and I got back together. She has been a Jayhawk fan all her life. We had dated in college prior to that and had gone our separate ways. I don't remember much about Kansas from pre-2003, except that I detested Roy, thought he was fake af, and getting back together, I gave Kansas another chance, and was amazed as how genuine, likeable and smart Bill Self was. I remember watching the Elite 8 loss at BW3s and thinking that if it weren't for Jarrett Jack, Self could have taken that team all the way in his first year.
I've always rooted for the good, sincere people above all else. The fact that my [girlfriend] knew everything about Kansas and the players fed my indoctrination. Rooting for Bill Self at a Blue Blood where the world could see became a moral imperative, the East Coast favoritism in recruiting and coverage incensed me.
The following year, I watched the Bucknell loss alone as my [girlfriend] was working, so certain was she of victory. That may have been the moment of my complete indoctrination. 1106 miles away from Lawrence Kansas, alone and deeply shocked, I became the doomsday messenger awaiting my [girlfriend]'s return, alone with the knowledge of the frustration and BS we would have to weather until next season could wash it away.
When we got married in 2008, a Jayhawk adorned my groom's cake. It still sits in our freezer. Maybe this will be the year I will eat another piece of it.
@Gunman :joy: :joy: :joy:
Watched the ESPN highlights of the game just now. not a single mention of Doke's free throw woes. Let's just pretend it never happened and there is no problem we need to fix.
@HighEliteMajor Yup! :100:
@HighEliteMajor so irritated right now. You?
So bad.
Next time Self wants to throw the game I wish he would warn us ahead of time.
Do you think any team would want to see any Big 12 team in the second round of the tourney with the exception of maybe ok st from what they have seen thus far?
@HighEliteMajor I never saw the pic either and when I edit your post I dont see the link. Maybe try dragging the pic into the edit box again? If you drag it into the browser outside the edit box I think your browser will render it but not add it to the post. Maybe that is what happened?
@HighEliteMajor thoroughly enjoyed your breakdown. :100: agree that this has to be a priority for the team to avoid poke a Doke.
@HighEliteMajor on desktop you can drag and drop a photo that is on your computer into the text box. On phone it's more of a pain; you have to go the route of tapping the picture icon, the one with the mountains, and pasting the url from a pic on the web into the link area of the generated markup. Also when you add photo the image doesn't show sometimes until you post and reload the thread.
Can't see Texas - Texas Tech. There goes my passing interest in that garbage.
@Kcmatt7 really appreciate your take. I've been infuriated with some of Newman's decision making, but we keep winning and he keeps playing and I know there is some correlation there. Willing to keep an open mind.
@mayjay DBF! lol
@Statmachine Doke:
Okafor:
!okafor β
Sure, Okafor got his NBA payday leaving early, and I guess that's the entirety of your point (well taken), but I hope Doke has more success than Okafor. Even if he were to develop an outside shot it's hard talking about the two in the same conversation. Okafor is much more lumbering and weaker in the paint. I'd argue he has no inside game :) Not exactly sure what the sixers saw in him.
@bmensch1 D1 record for this year.
38% on FG didn't help the team either. he shot more than a 3rd of their shots.
@mayjay basketball nation take notice... Don't stoke the Doke!
@RockChalkinTexas funny in that video, Huggins tells the story of the golfer who isn't comfortable playing so well on the front 9, so he shoots more poorly on the back 9 and says "see that's more like it." Then Huggins immediately says he told them when they were #2 that they weren't prepared and were about to fall from #2. Does he realize that his story of the golfer might also pertain to him? Maybe he wasn't comfortable being ranked so high and so freaked out his kids? He can't explain why the kids didn't do what they were told to do. Maybe in some part that's because he told them they were going to mess up.
What a great team win. MAN! We played D! We chipped away, Svi his two HUGE back to back 3's, Devonte picked pockets, pushed all game, and Doke played like a man with 4, Malik grabbed 6 boards, DeSousa, Mitch and Garrett all contributed when called upon in the first half to keep our starters fresh. Vick played glue man, found a way to keep us afloat when down by 10 in the first by getting a couple creative buckets.
Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
@Gunman This feels like hyperbole. Imo Huggins would still be a hall of fame coach, West Virginia would still be ranked, they would still press significant portions of the game, and we would still be looking at a likely impending loss on Monday, even if the game was less physical. I guess you're saying that West Virginia as it currently plays wouldn't be ranked if they were hypothetically in a world where more fouls were called and they were to do what they do regardless of whether whistles were blowing or not. Sure. But let's not discount their talent, experience and ability to adapt.
@chriz as much as I want to beat WV, I have a hard time rooting against Jevon Carter. He feels a lot like their version of Frank to me. A solid senior guard, tough as nails, that has improved himself every year, and seems to have a good attitude. So I hope he plays, does well, and we just do better than his team.
