Can we stick to just talking about the topic and not try to characterize board members?
Nice yep!
@globaljaybird I feel you man. I don't think we are any place new though. It's a long off season and the other things to talk about have their pitfalls of unpleasantry.
I'm sincerely sad the Royals aren't doing well. The trade deadline firesale isn't a pleasant discussion for committed fan even if its an honest one.
Anyway you do what makes you happy and then if you feel like sharing tell us about it. Like what I said about baseball, this place will be here even if you want to walk away and do what needs doing, and we'll be here when you feel like talking.
I'd love to hear about the good stuff from you and roll with that. Remember when @drgnslayr told us about his garden and was it you @KUSTEVE that posted pics of your ranch? And hows your sweet dog doing GB? The dog days of summer approaching. Rose smelling time. Be good bud.
No worries man. Catch you another time on there.
Yeah man. The bench was bad. They're gonna need more production from them to get past Boston at home or Cleveland.
Man. I walk away for the 3rd and Markieff who had done very little thus far supposedly went off. 22-0 run to blow the game open 80-60
@mayjay He really is killing it. Brought them back on his shoulders.
Yeah Washington not hitting 3s, Markieff is ice cold and Porter isn't getting touches any more.
sleepy... washington just isn't converting, Thomas is heating up and hittign 3's. bad news for the wiz.
@mayjay Being a clumsy oaf that injures people isnt a great MO either.
If you havent registered on Slack yet, you'll have to do that first here:

@wissox come on buddy :) if you're watching that wiz game don't be a stranger
Bump
@bskeet right on man. I'll be on tonight at 6:30 for the Celtics game. At grocery store now. Will hop on when home.
@jayballer54 right on. I don't think there's anyway Newman isn't still a top 100 talent and very doubtful that Cunliffe isn't as well considering he was top 30 last year with no major injury (right?). I agree that Self is being resourceful @jaybate-2-0 . I disgree that it is something to wring hands about or that it puts us at a disadvantage. I'm excited about this approach.
Going to try to hop on our new Slack instance tonight for Wizards Celtics Game 4 Gamechat. If anyone feels like joining me, sign up for Slack here and hop on tonight for the games:

It is definitely a double standard.
lol
Unless you're saying Cunliffe and Newman are not in fact top 100 talent.
It's good for us if the rest of the world wants to make stats that don't pertain to how we play the game. I get that they represent something, but they do not represent a dirth of incoming KU talent.
@KUSTEVE we have 4 incoming top 100 level recruits, not 2.
Buehler?
@jaybate-1.0  I don't think Self is being strangled. He was, but only because he was trying to play the same game.
Where we're going, we don't need roads.
@jaybate-1.0 for sure. I think what Self realized was that to recruit top shelf talent as freshman, it was no longer possible to maintain the process of earning minutes through years of the program. The high talent, even the high potential raw talent wanted minutes immediately or they would not come. This means that going the Transfer U route is in fact going back to what Bill is comfortable with: earning your minutes, and only starting around your junior year of college.
I think Self had an epiphany with Lucas. While this may sound harsh. Self appreciated Lucas and everything he did to develop into a good player. But ultimately Self realized that the cost of developing a role player for 5 years is simply too great. You can get a player that maxes out at Lucas' talent level with less investment. And I would be very very surprised if we aren't extremely selective with freshman scholarship offers going forward. That is to say, I would not expect scholarships on high-character project freshman, as you alluded to.
drgnslayr said:
Maybe he just didn't want to go back to having a super young team for the next few years... the transfers will help prevent that.
:100: totally agree. After 2012-2013 I'm pretty sure he said "never again" to that level of green.
I'm adding a couple extensions. /giphy /poll and /hangouts for starters.
Hey guys. As I said I would, I set up an instance of Slack for our board, and you're all invited! If you guys are interested in checking it out, please drop in poke around, and say hi. Use a fake name if you want. I did!

Slack is the hottest messaging tool on the internet, going for $0 to $3.8billion valuation over the last couple years, because it's really great for what it does. It is a great tool for collaboration and I've used it extensively for work and for personal groups. I really like it for chat.
I'm not by any means suggesting that this should replace our nodebb board.
I'm just setting it up for fun to play with, and possibly to use for gamechats, as it really is best for chatting in large groups, small groups, or individually, but falls short when posting long posts discussing things in greater depth.
Also, as a free instance, there is a limit to the number of messages slack will preserve. Don't expect any message on there to be permanent! They WILL go away. And we're not paying for an instance. Costs too much.
Anyway, check it out! It's really really cool for chat. And if you have any questions, holler away, either here or there.
@wissox excellent! Made my day. I've listened to all of them up to 251. Looks like it's time to binge again!
@JayHawkFanToo that's because the B12 has the best coaches top to bottom of any conference, and consequently league parity. And our ten coaches give the ACCs top ten a run for their money.
Is Jack Whitman Clark Kent?
Alright. I got TWO WORDS FOR YOU GUYS.
PERRY. ELLIS.
Whip out the ol Perry playbook.
I think offensively, Jack's got more than a little Perry in him.
@Kcmatt7 we watch I'd say some prtion of 95% of nats games live. I admit that this is excessive. But we do. Just because your team is playing doesn't mean you have to watch it. Baseball predated TV. F a TV you know? Radio, internet and newspaper are acceptable means of catching up. I'd even submit that you're not meant to watch every game. Baseball is meant to be part of a regional backdrop, the cultural tapestry. Ever present. There for you when you want it, with a little reserved space in the hearts of local sports fans alike.
@JayHawkFanToo dunno about Juistons ceiling but I'm excited about Whitman as well and he feels much more like a known commodity. Not unreasonable to speculate about a juco talent translating to D-I.
Also for gardening purposes Dan Carlin's hardcore history is good. It's highly redundant but that's ok if you're half tuned in anyway.
Ninety Nine Percent Invisible is my go to. It's the gold standard in terms of podcasts imo. I also like Damned Interesting.
I'll confess, this last episode of Frank Deford's left my eyes a little moist.

@kjayhawks No trouble at all. This is what liberation from the OAD puppy mill feels like. We want players that are tough, have some context, come here to work hard, to get better, to win. I think every one of these transfers understand what KU basketball is about. I expect we will be tough as hell.
For the 5 star freshman or lower recruited freshman that is tough enough and strong enough to be at Kansas like Josh or Frank, we need you too. But for the most part, give me Bill Self's version of Transfer U. I'm all in.
Just watched that video! Oh my God! What a beast! Bill has done it again! Definitely an OAD, but clearly beating up on smaller competition. Where is William and Mary High school again?
Seriously I'm pumped! It's all in the mindset ;)
@Kcmatt7 Taits article on other site said Bill offered him a scholarship.
@mayjay you talking about the stupid make some noise clap tracks?
@Kcmatt7 i get speeding up the length of an inning but not a fan of making additional rules to speed up extra innings unnaturally. To me, extra innings are all about managing depleted resources. It's where everything a coach has done through the course of a game and even course of the week comes to a head. It is a critical part of the game and must see tv. Extra innings should be allowed to play out indefinitely until the equalibrium is broken.
@Kcmatt7 unhappy with PT?
Did anyone substantiate the claims that Coleby might leave? Makes no sense.
@brooksmd ouch. He's a career .276 hitter. No bounce back on the horizon?
@Crimsonorblue22 but supposing we do pry a couple Royals loose you are welcome to root for the Nats. Call Nationals Park Kauffman East if you like.
I've seen most of these guys in limited capacity in the bigs or in Double A. Stevenson was a beast every time I saw him but that was mostly in double A. None of the others had enough run to jar loose a crisp memory.
@brooksmd decent write up on what me might deal from the farm for Cain and Herrera: https://kingsofkauffman.com/2017/05/01/kc-royals-nationals-lorenzo-cain/ ↗
Heard a little rumor that the Nats might be interested in Cain
@Kcmatt7 I dont know what the answer is with Familia. Seems if someone is truly abnormal in length of time between pitches the ump should be able to handle that at his discretion. I just hate the digital counter. I watch baseball to tap into the timeless.
@wrwlumpy And that's why Coach Self is the best!
come on guys! those are just THINGS! we're talking about BASEBALL!
