@Crimsonorblue22 never thought about it before but the past tense of lead is led, so if you say “they dont want to be lead” is that a grammatical issue or a spelling issue? Crazy that led is a homophone of lead the mineral but also the past tense of lead the verb.

It could have gone the other way but it would have been a bad call, I think. We got lots of bad calls in our favor that night, but that wasn’t one of them. My opinion of course, which I dont think is biased this time :)

@wissox that doesnt mean he was in a shooting motion. It means he picked up his dribble. You have to draw the line somewhere. If i get a defensive rebound, see you running and looking the other way and i step in front of you and when you crash into me, hurl the ball from my hip at my rim 90 feet away do you think theyd give me 3 shots? I think the more you have to assemble the pieces and parts, the harder it becomes if your leaders arent your best scorers, it is a logical default people can rally behind.

And when you bring in a bunch of “defense optional” scoring transfers, that confuses the situation all the more.

@drgnslayr sadly, i think “leadership by committee” may be caused by our longest tenured starters not being our best offensive players in a system that is complex enough that it causes less tenured players to defer to said lesser stars.

I will say Selfs championship teams and runner up all had elements of leadership by committee but the best offensive players were some of the most tenured.

I do think Flory learns quickly and has the knack. Could be a really good pro.

Im curious, if Self’s action is complicated why does he recruit guys who cant do it? Where is the disconnect? If we hire someone weak in IT we look at the interview process. Is it really not possible to determine if a kid will be able to run your stuff or not? Specifically a PG, seems like you would figure that out.

How complicated are the things they are being asked to do? What is a reasonable time frame for knowing the plays in Self’s system?

I agree with almost everything @rockchalkjayhawk but KJ should no longer be a starter, so down 1 starter (harping because he rushed back from injury and that should not change the equation; Flory should start going forward). This may be arguing semantics. I would acknowledge down 1.5 heavy rotation players.

And, I think Rylan did more than shoot. Most def should not be a primary handler but otherwise he contributed in several areas, I thought and it stuck out to me during game when on ball. I will have to keep my eye on him a little more off ball, especially on the defensive end @drgnslayr . I havent been paying attention there

@wissox thats fair. But just because he raised his arms doesn’t mean it was a shooting motion. He also had several teammates downcourt to pass to, and having watched more NBA than i care to admit, i would have been very surprised it they awarded that a foul. I have seen Steph Curry flail for the foul on shots he actually has business shooting and doesnt get. I overreacted about Haase. What irritated me was a) he is Haase b) he was telling us it was a foul, not suggesting that it might be a foul.

I guess thats his job, but its asking for a firm response.

@kjayhawks haha yeah. And in this thread you did give him props for his defensive impact. I will agree to disagree about our offense. I think Juan running the offense more methodically means much much fewer transition buckets for UCF.

I think @Texas-Hawk-10 is referring to your post about befriending Juan on insta or whatever and referring to Juan saying he wanted some of whatever you were eating. Meanwhile you’ve been one of the more vocal Juan bashers. Imo its not really duplicitous to say one thing to players and another on here, but you made the two worlds collide by telling us you are friendly with him. Lol
