@jaybate-1.0 I do think he's been asked to do a lot more tonight. Not just rebounds and stick backs. They deliberately ran offense through Coleby.

Tejas Game Thread • Feb 26, 2017 12:46 AM

I wish I could jump like Lagerald.

Tejas Game Thread • Feb 26, 2017 12:40 AM

This game feels like our guys are ready to get to the post season. We're showing a few good things but we aren't out for blood and have had several lapses in focus. I'm not worried about anything, only that the season will be over before we know it, and it's hard to relish the last few games when we're playing sloppy bball.

Tejas Game Thread • Feb 26, 2017 12:31 AM

Oh my God. Where is the Bill electroshock button on my remote?

Tejas Game Thread • Feb 26, 2017 12:30 AM

Bill Walton, hopefully you never will be to AFH either.

Tejas Game Thread • Feb 26, 2017 12:29 AM

@BeddieKU23 Yeah I'm at a loss. Should have figured out not to make that pass in high school.

Tejas Game Thread • Feb 26, 2017 12:20 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 every time I say Devonte is about to go off, Frank ends up taking over.

Tejas Game Thread • Feb 26, 2017 12:18 AM

@jaybate-1.0 now how do i add that thumb down button on posts again.... :smirk:

Tejas Game Thread • Feb 26, 2017 12:12 AM

Devonte is my hawk to rock the rest of the way.

Tejas Game Thread • Feb 26, 2017 12:11 AM

Alright. let's step on some throats now.

Tejas Game Thread • Feb 26, 2017 12:00 AM

@KUSTEVE one of their freshman next year is a highly ranked PG.

Tejas Game Thread • Feb 25, 2017 11:59 PM

@globaljaybird lol I dunno, I'm gonna give Shaka another season to get this trainwreck back on the rails. I'm not convinced that these players (minus Allen) are going to imrpove significantly though, regardless of how good the incoming freshman are.

Tejas Game Thread • Feb 25, 2017 11:57 PM

Coleby's ups seem to continue to improve.

Tejas Game Thread • Feb 25, 2017 11:56 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 lolol

My wife said it was good he doesn't have chest hair, as that's one more thing that can catch fire from embers.

Tejas Game Thread • Feb 25, 2017 11:51 PM

It seems so long ago when I was thinking early Texas losses were a fluke and they'd actually be good.

"UCLA is the best offensive team" - most offensive announcer

Tejas Game Thread • Feb 25, 2017 11:47 PM

Coleby is punishing these suckers for sucking.

Tejas Game Thread • Feb 25, 2017 11:44 PM

Man. These airballs are fierce.

Jackson misdemeanor • Feb 25, 2017 12:52 PM

@HighEliteMajor so.... I'm on the fence on the suspension. On one hand I agree it would be a deterrent to the kid, on the other hand there are two parties here. So a punishment for ones negative action is also a reward for anothers. Is it not encouragement to the other party that they can screw with a basketball player knowing that any retaliation will result in a public shaming? I agree of course, damaging a car isn't appropriate, but we've got a pattern now of girls screwing with our players and then publicly shaming them for their response. So in that light I can see how private disciplining disarms that weapon.

Rick Pitino S-U-C-K-S • Feb 25, 2017 12:49 AM

@HawkChamp I can't tell if you're joking or not  Successful, yes. Most annoying marble mouthed self-absorbed windbag? Most definitely!

Rick Pitino S-U-C-K-S • Feb 23, 2017 10:22 PM

@HighEliteMajor The problem is that these guys are a product of their environment. Titans of coaching, sure. Likeable people? I don't think so. Being successful does not make you a hero by default. Success is a galvanizing factor. Success can make you either hero or villain.

I'd argue the first three in your list are villains, and Roy is just goofy and a bit disingenuous and vain, but nothing to character assassinate, I agree. I think he's a decent person on top of being a great coach. I'd add Boeheim to that list of villains right behind K.

And I'd put them in stark contrast to our hero Bill Self. Does he have a few warts? Sure. Would he ever throw a hissy fit like Pitino did last night or sleep around on Cindy? No way man. And if he acted like these other guys I would turn the TV off. I wouldn't root for a coach or players that act disgracefully and I owe Rick Pitino nothing for his success.

It seems as though you're insinuating that they are beyond reproach because they've been successful, when probably their success is in large part a product of undesirable behavior. This makes Bill Self all the more remarkable becoming an upper echeleon coach without stooping to the same lows.

It's not amazing at all that these guys win national titles. We all know the things they did to get there, the things they do to stay there, and the people and systems that prop them up.

There ARE other good guys in the industry that are successful. I think the elders in the Big12, at this point in their careers, are pretty clean and likeable people: Lon and Huggie Bear, and both have the capacity to put together ranked teams year in year out.

If you look at any sport, I think you can make a case that some of the top people are warped human beings.

Let's hope Bill Self retires a hero before the sport warps him into something he does not want to be. But I believe our man is made of steel.

Rick Pitino S-U-C-K-S • Feb 23, 2017 06:13 PM

@JayHawkFanToo lol thanks. Everyone acted appropriately

NEED YOUR HELP BUCKETEERS • Feb 23, 2017 02:40 PM

@RockChalkinTexas #13IFM = POY ... fantastic!

Rick Pitino S-U-C-K-S • Feb 23, 2017 05:38 AM

@JayHawkFanToo I guess it is. I didn't read that story, to be honest, just the headline. I assumed that the MU fans must have said something more vulgar than simply "you suck". To me, that's a non-story.

Rick Pitino S-U-C-K-S • Feb 23, 2017 04:52 AM

This blows my mind. I can't believe that fan was ejected! The world is not what I thought it was.

Rick Pitino S-U-C-K-S • Feb 23, 2017 04:42 AM

Rick Pitino, you are a trifling egomaniac. Come on man. I thought you were better than this.

At UNC down at the half, Pitino got irate and had to "be restrained" yelling at a fan whom ESPN reported to have told Pitino "Pitino, you S-U-C-K" as he made his way to the locker room. At least that's how ESPN reported it, gun-shy about saying the word "suck", and opting to spell it instead like the profanest of words. Pitino in his post game, called the fan a coward for turning his back on him. The fan was ejected. Are you f'n kidding me? If I got ejected from a front row seat for telling the opposing coach that he sucks I would lose my sh**!

And so Rick, you get my COWARD OF THE WEEK award. How sweet it must be for your entitled lily white butt to point at a passionate fan and have him ejected from his own home court.

Shame on you UNC, for turning the Dean Smith Center into King Pitino's personal safe space.

And seriously, you can't say "you suck", you have to S-P-E-L-L it O-U-T on ESPN at 10:30 pm, but you can play trailers for horror movies at noon on a Saturday when little kids are actually watching?

Mason's Baylor Line Must Be Repeated • Feb 20, 2017 02:40 PM

@dylans hmm. Either POY or tourney MVP. I was thinking first team all American but I guess that's all four years?

Mason's Baylor Line Must Be Repeated • Feb 20, 2017 04:40 AM

Frank is my favorite ever. Felt pretty sentimental about Perry last year. Trying not to think about this one. Just hoping he gets to go out in one shining moment.

Also, stoked that he's going to get his jersey in the rafters.

If this isn't a technical... • Feb 19, 2017 09:12 PM

He needs to play against Duke... Sweep the leg, Grayson!

Vick Has Earned The Start • Feb 19, 2017 09:09 PM

Was thinking about the same thing during the game. But after hearing the arguments here (good ones, all) I agree that Vick will be successful coming off the bench and we need the O we get from Svi. He's made as many threes as Devonte and Frank and we are dependant on that. I do think the zone helps protect Svis slow feet but expect to see more of Vick against long athletic teams.

Game Link? • Feb 19, 2017 01:20 AM

@Kubie yes please!

Beat Baylor !!!!!!! • Feb 18, 2017 11:57 PM

Had boys basketball and son's birthday today
Only got to watch a bit of the first half. Hope I can watch a CBS rebroadcast. So pumped we won!

So if Bill doesn't... • Feb 18, 2017 11:55 PM

@Blown in typical KU fan style, never satisfied, I'll ask the question... Why not national coach of the year?

@StLJhawk I'm sorry Miss Jackson! Ooh. Josh is for real!

NEED YOUR HELP BUCKETEERS • Feb 17, 2017 01:59 AM

@stoptheflop completely agree.

A Chamberlain jersey might be very fitting this year.....

!

NEED YOUR HELP BUCKETEERS • Feb 17, 2017 01:11 AM

Frank 'llwin Center (like Frank Erwin Center)

Trae Young • Feb 16, 2017 10:57 PM

You guys probably have covered this but is Newman a good ball handler?

Trae Young • Feb 16, 2017 03:26 PM

Happy he's staying in the conference either way. Still a win for us.

Trae Young • Feb 16, 2017 04:04 AM

@cjbooth38 hmm interesting. I didn't know that was a rule.

Very nice commentary • Feb 16, 2017 01:00 AM

@REHawk I wouldn't send him packing for rocky on court play this season. Only if his off court stuff warranted it. He's still a part of the Jayhawk family. And I too wonder if it's Self telling him to do things other than shoot in situations we would want to see him shoot.

I think his body language was really good in the game he came back from suspension and I believe Carlton Aurelius will have his vengeance on his detractors, in this season or the next.

Josh playing the 4 so well has changed the course of his season after Carlton's suspensions, much like what happened to Andrew White when he got injured and never had the same opportunity upon return. Hopefully in this case, Carlton's time at the 4 is more secure next year than Whites time projected to be before he transfered. It seems like it is.

Very nice commentary • Feb 15, 2017 05:03 AM

I should have included that after that pass backwards to Frank by Bragg, Frank airballs, Carlton goes over the back to collect his 3rd (?) foul and gets yanked for Coleby. Hopefully Self tells Bragg he needs to attack the basket there instead of that mess.

Very nice commentary • Feb 15, 2017 01:11 AM

@HawkChamp Coleby is smart and strong with a wide body, good positioning on rebounds with good hands.

But his explosiveness isn't there. Can't elevate without collecting and can't guard jumpshooters very well.

I do like him a lot and he's smart enough to play to his strengths.

I still believe Carlton can be a force but it will take the staff and he having consistent confidence. That unfortunately may not happen this year with him off the bench. I had hoped it would. Check out the play at 2:10 left in first half. We break the press and pass to Carlton at the foul line. There is one man between Carlton and Mitch under the basket. Instead of driving into the guy and dumping over the top to Mitch he turns around and passes it back to Frank. Josh would have had the assist and Self would expect him to make that play.

Outpressed Press Virginia • Feb 14, 2017 01:39 PM

To minimize the negative effects, roll it out when you don't have a game within 3 days.

Also, for those who say depth is a problem because of foul trouble, I'd suggest that maybe tempo would be fast and so foul heavy regardless if we press or not against an up tempo team like West Virginia. Refs have proven often that their tolerance for physicality appears to be set by the tempo and physicality of the game the more aggressive team brings. I'm not sure that we get whistled any more in a press than out of it. In fact, someone like Bragg might survive longer when the game is more physical, and I wonder if subliminally there is an effect of playing d in the back court, where the ref considers both teams to be on offense so relaxes against the team pressing.

Outpressed Press Virginia • Feb 14, 2017 01:31 PM

Our press was a cornered tiger with one way out: through a little metal hoop. Lethal. Undeniable. Repeatable?

Some people say our team is not deep enough to press like that more of the time. Maybe true. But with the level of intensity, discipline and athleticism we displayed in the press it certainly seemed to be one of our strengths. Why not roll that out more when the game is in the balance? Why not against pressing teams? If they want to press, make them work hard on both ends of the court. Down double digits with under 3 to go, we played to win, not just to not lose. And we won!

@BShark

Maybe. I wouldn't mind seeing Bill play with it more in general. It was damn good.

East Coast screws KU again chat. • Feb 14, 2017 05:11 AM

I like this post from WV board:

The problem seems to go full circle back to a question I asked after one of our early losses. Will other teams press us? Most folks laughed it off. Said we're a pressing team. Won't work. We are absolutely dreadful at inbounding against the press. We are not 3-6 in close games but nearly gave A&M away too.

How about Landen with two huge plays in the press? We could roll out that press a little more
