2021-22 PER's & Stats • Apr 04, 2022 06:05 PM

@BeddieKU23 I figured it would account for effective FG% and give that extra boost for 3s. Does it not?

2021-22 PER's & Stats • Apr 04, 2022 06:04 PM

@BeddieKU23 Or is it more that most of Dave's numbers come in smaller amounts of minutes on the floor? He rarely plays 30+ minutes...

2021-22 PER's & Stats • Apr 04, 2022 06:03 PM

@BeddieKU23 Are rebounds just over weighted in the formula? If so you'd think Jalen would have gone up more in the last half of the season.

Talent Wins Games • Apr 04, 2022 05:51 PM

@BShark Seems like there could be a pattern there. He did say his new goal as a coach with recruiting is trying to figure out how to get old and stay old. The dream is still a core of upperclassmen with a superstar freshmen but that hasn't really worked out for us yet.

This might lead to some tempering of expectations for next year if we do actually lose Och, Dave, Jalen and Braun. Really need one of those last two to stay for the stability of the program next year but I hope they make the best decisions for themselves.

2021-22 PER's & Stats • Apr 04, 2022 05:47 PM

Feel like all the stats and PERs and data go out the window tonight. Anything can happen in one game. We are the better team on paper but none of that matters if they end up making more baskets than us tonight! Do think it's fitting that Big Dave is at the top of that list as presumably the most important player on this roster. When he plays well we are just so tough to beat.

Och finally had his hot shooting night I'd been waiting for all season going 6-7 from 3 but unfortunately didn't combine that with his more steady all around type games he's put in over the course of the year. Here's hoping he comes up big tonight with 30 plus scored from EVERYWHERE not just behind the arc. I really want him to be the MOP of the final four but I'd settle for Dave getting 20 and 10 and taking it away from him.

@jayballer67 said in Are we happy? UNC?:

Were a 4 point favorite BUT something that kind of caught me a little by surprise - - BPI has us as a 71.9 % chance of winning the game -- love my Hawks just seems that might be a pinch high

I'd think about that 71.9 % chance of winning this way. In a 10 game series we'd probably win about 7. That seems about right to me. Isn't anything close to a guarantee but we ARE the better team.

I’d really like to hate wright and nova but find it very difficult.

The Also Ran Game • Apr 03, 2022 03:59 PM

@mayjay I think that was one of those ankle turns that was more scary than painful. The real question is what happens to it today.

As far as guarding their guards I think we will likely just switch a lot like normal until we see who has the hot hand and then throw Juan on him to try and clamp him down. Either or both love and Davis can be dangerous and I would NOT want to triangle and two Carolina with manek having free reign to float around and catch and shoot. It will take a team effort on d. Thankfully that’s what we’ve been getting from the guys this tournament.

Are we happy? UNC? • Apr 03, 2022 03:46 PM

@drgnslayr interesting stat that I didn’t notice until Jesse posted it on Twitter, the game had the fewest possessions since 2016 yet we still scored 81 point. Just a complete game on the offensive end from everyone. Only Remy never really got in the flow and he still hit a big shot.

?s=21&t=JFZHREMjFBlpUqhc7JnnfA

This next game will be so different. Carolina likes to run as much if not more than we do. They give up quite a few runouts on live ball turnovers if we can get in the passing lanes. But their guards are FAST and fearless and take and make tough shots. I hope Baycots ankle recovers quickly because I want to see that matchup with Dave. Two great offensive rebounders who do it purely with want to. Neither are picking balls off the top of the backboard.

The Also Ran Game • Apr 03, 2022 01:10 AM

Let’s go overtime.

@Kcmatt7 if he gets 20 and 10 again not sure how you keep him out. Could still come back next year… I’d take that Dave all year…

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 03, 2022 12:16 AM

@bskeet wonder what’s it’s like for those people who literally can’t do that every year because their team misses the dance.

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 03, 2022 12:15 AM

@bskeet never filled out a bracket with Kansas not winning it all.

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 03, 2022 12:07 AM

@bskeet they’re still hungry.

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 03, 2022 12:07 AM

@BShark I worry less about this in the tournament. Nothing to lose. Jay took out the starters. It’s fine.

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 03, 2022 12:06 AM

@BShark woulda had 30 with most refs.

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 03, 2022 12:01 AM

@BShark his d to start the game was HUGE

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 02, 2022 11:19 PM

@Kcmatt7 and we’ve lost shooters on those all night.

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 02, 2022 10:30 PM

That nova run was also without Dave on the floor.

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 02, 2022 10:29 PM

Calls got them back in it. Gonna need another burst to get some separation in the second half.

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 02, 2022 10:29 PM

I’d have taken 40-29 as a half time score at the start of the game.

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 02, 2022 10:23 PM

Wow.

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 02, 2022 10:19 PM

Can’t let bad calls be a factor in this. Just keep burying them.

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 02, 2022 10:18 PM

He just camped out for that. Best play he’s made all game…

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 02, 2022 10:18 PM

@nwhawkfan gotta keep folks interested before Duke Carolina.

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 02, 2022 10:17 PM

Terrible d Braun.

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 02, 2022 10:15 PM

Zone.

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 02, 2022 10:12 PM

I do think Mitch can score on these guys too.

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 02, 2022 10:12 PM

Nova needed that foul call to neutralize Dave.

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 02, 2022 10:11 PM

Wow. Not sure about that call.

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 02, 2022 10:09 PM

Just ran away from that rebound.

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 02, 2022 10:09 PM

Braun could wake up and I’d be real happy.

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 02, 2022 10:03 PM

No answer for Dave. Run it up.

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 02, 2022 09:59 PM

This team is good at taking what the defense gives em. Not used to Och threes being what the defense funnels the ball to.

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 02, 2022 09:58 PM

Oscar who???

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 02, 2022 09:55 PM

Maybe should have been some articles about nova needing to run Och of the 3 line.

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 02, 2022 09:53 PM

Might need Juan on the floor…

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 02, 2022 09:53 PM

Keep throwing it to him.

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 02, 2022 09:51 PM

That was a shooting foul??

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 02, 2022 09:48 PM

Juan taking his defense assignments personally tonight.

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 02, 2022 09:48 PM

They have no answer for Dave yet.

Jay Wrong Game Thread • Apr 02, 2022 09:45 PM

Keep this energy!

Mitch • Apr 01, 2022 04:04 PM

@BeddieKU23 If he gets in 1000 shots a day this summer no reason he couldn't be a 35-40% shooter from 3.

Mitch • Apr 01, 2022 03:52 PM

@BeddieKU23 Read Self is thinking of trying to run him at the 3 spot. Says he shoots it well in practice and would love running 3 bigs together on the back line of a 2-3 zone he's been working on.

@wissox Agree that MSU should probably be an "on the cusp team" in that list. I feel like Indiana was once a blueblood and still just backsliding from there so I'd have them closer to the good programs compared to the great...

Crazy thing is, even if Nova were to win it all this year I don't think that bumps them up to the top of this list. They only have 6 final fours total. Kansas has the fewest on that blueblood line with 16! That's the big difference. And even if Nova keeps piling up final fours, unless the current blue bloods STOP making it (see Indiana) how will they EVER catch up?

Nova is tied in Final fours with the following schools: Arkansas, Cincinnati, Houston, Michigan, Oklahoma State, Syracuse. They are behind: Michigan State (10), Ohio State (10), Indiana (8), Louisville (8). So yeah, I'd say MSU is closer to a blue blood than Nova... Plus they are in the Champions Classic. Blue blood isn't any official title or anything, just perception. And playing with Duke, KU, and Kentucky every year helps that perception.

Let the slobberfest begin • Apr 01, 2022 12:47 PM

Read an interesting tidbit this morning. Talking about North Carolina in the final four as an AP unranked team. The last team to win it all who was unranked by the AP? Danny and the Miracles. The last one before that? You cannot make this up. Villanova in 85. What a wild Final Four!
