@mayjay noy by me, maybe Grimes, but Zion isnāt a primary ball handler. They would play together nicely. I think Langford fits better yet. The team as a whole looks too loaded to put up Trae like numbers next season.
A natural scoring post would sure help when the outside shots arenāt falling.
@Blown Yes as I recall, but Alexander played the fist 2/3 of the season. And is still waiting on the NCAAās response...
@kjayhawks darn straight!
@HighEliteMajor Kansas shouldāve been N. Champs that year. The team has been in decline since. However, i look for a big resurgence beginning next season.
@Bosthawk if thatās the case, sell the damn car and use that money to get square.
Iām willing to bet whomever gave him the car would buy it back... ok that was a bit facetious.
I donāt remember Jesus in a sports car. :race_car: Must be in the new new testiment.
Billy would be nice, but momma can go away. :face_palm:
Stupid car...No, stupid kid taking a car ruining a season for everyone.
I donāt think we can complain about the complete lack of talent on the team. Cunliffe was the highest rated recuit to sign with ASU in nearly a decade and he sits on our bench. There is no post depth and no size beyond Dok. You add 2 post players who are ready and able to play and it completely changes the complexion of the team. All the sudden a guard messes up and he can be yanked to learn. If Graham could sit for 5 minutes a game heād be a lot fresher and if you are only playing 3 guards instead of 4 you have that many more guard minutes to go around. KU could pound it inside and foul up the other team on a poor shooting night. Also with 3 guards you could hide the defensive shortcomings of Svi better by not leaving him out there all night. Svi is pretty much of a jump shooter, not a driver, not a defender. Malik needs motivated, I was hoping coming off the bench would do it, maybe he needs his minutes cut back until heās healed up.
So I do think the team can get better by playing the guards less, but only if Billy Preston can play and is as good as I think he appeared in the pre-season. Dude knows how to get baskets. Silvio will help, but I expect less production from him than we could get from Billy.
@RockkChalkk I wasnāt able to watch the game...but I didnāt say those things either. And I hedged my bet with effort, because I know the end of the world is near. Lol.
@no_one_in_specific KU lost and is in serious jeopardy of losing the winning game streak, time to watch the rats drown as they jump ship only to try to swim back aboard later.
I am serious about supporting the team though, they damn sure need it with the butt kickings they have coming.
Frank Mason fallout? He was the heart driver for the team for so long as well as such a strong leader that it seems none of the other guys have any experience taking charge. Rudderless ship. The team doesnāt take pride in defense. Doesnāt drive the ball. Doesnāt look good unless shots are falling. Itās time for a player/players to man up and take accountability for the team. Bill canāt make them want it, they have to do it.
-Mason -Jackson -Lucas +Udoka +Newman = net negative big time. The Kansas math doesnāt work right now.
So should we jump ship?!? Iām thinking these kids are going to need our support. The big12 is pretty tough!
Love them when they win, love them when they lose with effort.
Well...glad I missed it? I can still remain guardedly optimistic.
@Jayballer54 Iām trying. The internet is failing me though.
Iāve missed the entire game due to a meeting. Should I turn it on, start from the beginning or be glad I didnāt see it?
@JayHawkFanToo KU late nineties. No summer school. I'm not 100% sure if he started on the me degree his freshman year or like most students he changes his major at least once. He Graduated in four years, but he didn't play basketball for Bill Self either.
I believe most people refer to them as four year degrees because that's what it should take, but many less demanding degrees than engineering take more than 4 years due to course correction in a teenagers life. I'm glad you were so well prepared as an 18 year old to know how and what you wanted to do. I'm nearly 40 and still haven't figured it out. Maybe someday...
@mayjay To clarify sports are just entertainment to me. The actions and games are real, but just that games. They have no bearing on my day to day life. In entertainment I enjoy having villains and good guys with clear defined rolls (not like real life).
Iām not going to go egg a guys house for being a KSU fan, because the games are just that games. Itās not war, itās not politics, itās not religion. Itās why I come here. Entertainment. Hardcore entertainment. That I take too seriously, but donāt confuse with real life.
@wissox
āIām supposed to be the franchise player and we in here talking about practice! I mean listen, we talking about practice? Not a game! Not a game! Not a game! We talking about practice! Not a game, not a game, not the game I go out there and die for, weāre talking about practice?!? Not a game! We talking about practice!ā
Ok a little longer than 6 seconds.
How about...
āDown goes Frazier!ā
@mayjay Yeah, probably. Some/most players/fans need false motivation in sports to up the anteā. Fake hate without the real hatred is quiet common. Just donāt cross over into antler territory and make it real.
@JayHawkFanToo My roommate got his mechanical engineering degree in 4 years, but his class load was incredible! (That KU grad has stuff on Mars by the by) Many 20-23 hour semesters. I seriously doubt a basketball player has that much time available to him.
Too many minutes are making Devonteā need to catch breathers on defense. He has the ball in his hands on offense and doesnāt push it too hard the whole game for that reason also. (I think) There is simply no way to sprint for 40 minutes straight!
One of the things I really miss about Roy (love me some Roy donāt really miss him) was his teams ability to destroy the full court press. He turned it into a scoring opportunity. The press was usually a mistake to use against KU back then.
Shock collar karaoke was hilarious when they did that on 98.9 back in the 90s. Theyād just be happily, horribly singing along to some tune, then zap! No more singing. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
@wissox I really didn't mean to direct that at you. Your post was just the catalyst not the source of my frustration. I appreciate your fandom and sometimes I/we absolutely do need called out. The vast majority of KU fans that I've met have been stand up individuals, but like any fanbase there are exceptions.
@jaybate-1.0 well...Iām aging so anything would be nice as long as the body matches the rolled back odometer!
After Mahomes settled in he was very good. During the first quarter I thought maybe Alex needed a long term contract, but Mahomes looks legit. I donāt know if heāll be ready next season, but he good enough youāve got to hand him the keys sometime soon.
@jaybate-1.0 funny, but the eligibility clock starts ticking at a certain age. At 27 or so he should be out of eligibility if I remember correctly from when Weeden was QB at osu.
I guess I no longer want to be considered a Jayhawk fan by @wissox? Apparently we are all whinny! With fragile egos, hahaha.
I have yet to meet a true fan of any team that is 100% content after a loss. 2012 was great, but that season ending loss still hurt. We were all proud of our guys, but content in a loss? Hell no!
You really should visit rural Kansas were the real down to earth Kansans are. I have no idea what the out of state Jayhawks are like, but apparently they have left a bad taste in your mouth. Come spend some time around better people and maybe youāll see better fans! If youāre judge fans based on online rants, you and I both know most people donāt act as horrible in person as they do on the internet. Sad, but true.
All fan bases have crappy fans - OU fans are boorish, A NU fan broke my nose because I was standing by him after NU barely beat KU in football (best fans in the US Iāve been told), Co fans give KU fans their tickets (I loved seeing Allen Fieldhouse far west fully filled up!) KSU fans are extremely insecure, MU fans are are overly aggressive and mean towards KU, Texas fans are bandwagon fans, ISU fans think every call goes KUs way even if they arenāt playing KU, Baylor- wow what a mess I have no idea what the fans are like, but the players are pretty tough on each other (murder) and the program chooses to have Drew around. I guess outside of almighty Texas the other Texas teams and fans donāt even rate , my Big8 love is showing through.
The unlikeable KU fans for me- the ones who think they are clever saying things like, āAll you care about are conference championshipsā and the vast over use and poor analysis of the āfools goldā comment. Both are leading comments that cause a larger divide every time they are brought up. To the point of nearly splitting this board in half - and we get along fairly well for a group of random strangers with only KU in common.
Both programs took a nose dive around the same time.
Both programs got new ābetterā coaches...
WKU? Half Coleby(ku transfer) half M. Robinson(head case big)
@JayHawkFanToo I didn't leave anyone out unintentionally. The ones I mentioned were all top 3 draft picks. With the exception of Young. We shall see about him.
@HighEliteMajor and theyāve beaten the all powerful Wofford. š
We need Malik healthy and playing closer to his potiental for ku to be a major threat. Heck, we need the entire team playing close to its potiental for six games to have a chance to win it all. One bad shooting nigh5 and itās all over. This team doesnāt hang itās hat on d.
Durant, Griffin, Beasley, and now Young. The big 12 has had some serious studs and KU has found a way to overcome them all in the past. I expect the same this season.
Of course KU has had some pretty serious talent themselves: Embiid, Wiggins, Jackson, but none put out the stats of those four.
Watch for rattlesnakes sign is way better than a no trespassing sign in my experience!
Well done as always @wrwlumpy
@Texas-Hawk-10 I guess I should rewatch the foul on Dok. If Dok leaned forward over the other guy itās a foul. If Dok went straight up he has he right to come straight down, so if the guy backed under him when he was coming straight down (not jumping forward at all) it should be a fouls on the person boxing out. As it is itās was called a foul and so thatās what it was, without re-watching I will say I was wrong in the heat of the moment. I will say there were a ton of reaching fouls not called on either team. It was a very loosely officiated game. If there was any bad blood it wouldāve come to blows.
When did the NCAA stop giving automatic flagrant fouls for hitting a player in the head? Devonteā has had his clock cleaned a couple times this season with not so much as a peak at the monitor. I donāt think they were malicious, but they used to draw a foul none the less.
JayHawkFanToo said:
Texas shot 14 FT in the second half alone, KU shot 15 the entire game. Svi had 4 fouls which to me is being in serious foul trouble. Just sayinā...
I think this is a lack of driving the ball problem more so than a referee problem. I wasnāt impressed down the stretch when Texas started getting touch fouls and KU nothing, but you just play through that junk and they did.
BeddieKU23 said:
Doke jumped and the guy backed into him to box him out. I fail to see how doke isn't eligible to the same space
Yeah, they got that one wrong. I was yelling at the tv again...They also missed a blatant foul by Garrett on Dylan O. down the stretch. I didnāt think they called a very good game either way.
mayjay said:
@dylans It might not be conventional wisdom, but it might be wise to run clock on the road when you have a team with hardly any subs, your best shooter has 3 or 4 fouls, and your best big guy has 3 fouls and a bad back.
Actually what you describe is conventional thinking, its how everyone does it, I just think its wrong.
Iād take the layup. Itās how you built the lead, why pass up points? Prevent D in the NFL is bull too.
Any points you score makes the clock that much more in your favor. Iām not saying jack up shots early on the clock, just take any easy buckets the d gives you until you can actually dribble out the clock.
I love it when with 5 minuets left the other team stops doing what works and goes to running clock it gives us a fantastic chance to come back.
Forgot about Garrett. I doubt Grimes is around for 2019, so KU definitely needs to sign some long wings/guards.
Agreed. Bamba is tough to pass over, but once itās in heās worthless in the press as he was used.
Iād have him pressure the inbound passer every under the basket inbounds play though.
I think Dok figured out late to go into Bamba and not try to go over him. The contact greatly favors Dok and he started drawing fouls. You could also tell Bamba wasnāt used to playing that many minutes - he was less effective late. Our guys, well our guys are used to those minutes and more.
Bamba is a stud though; a major NBA talent. Iād hate to have to battle Texas without Dok!
The next personal matchup Iām most looking forward to is Devonteā vs. Young. That should be fun as it gets as long as both guys (and teams) play well.
Ok, why is conventional wisdom to run clock with a 10 point lead and 5 minutes to go? Why not attack the full court press and just score those easy baskets? Scoring puts the clock even more in your favor.
I think KU/Devonte did a good job breaking the press, but Iād like to see them attack out of the press instead of holding the ball and letting the D reset. Itās like they relax after the ball is across half court instead of reamaining aggressive.
@truehawk93 Jay also added that its gratuitous that the professionals at the NCAA get off until after the 1st while the amateurs kids were āworkingā games that night.
@KUSTEVE Yeah! Fan is short for fanatic. Iām freakinā fanatical for the Jayhawks!!!
Itās going to be a solid backcourt for a few years! Dotson, Moore, and Jacobs would be very quick. I assume Bill will add some length to that mix too, in a premier wing player. Iāve got to assume given the time in the system that Charlie will be starting alongside Devon (and a future stud wing could be Cunliffe if he develops nicely) with Markese coming off the bench his freshman year.
Iād be surprised if Silvio is good enough to OAD. He originally signed for next season, so I highly doubt he plans to bolt so soon. I believe Thon Maker went pro after playing for a prep school for a year. Did Silvio go to prep school or just a couple different high schools? If no prep-school he hasnāt graduated early enough to go to the NBA draft this season anyway.
The Big. 12 is the most balanced conference. That makes all the games competitive. The bulk of the conference is ranked 10-40 so the teams are good, but there arenāt multiple elite teams in the Big12. Thatās how the ACC wins so many championships- when Duke is down UNC is good and vice versa. Who picks up the weight when KU is down? Who pushes KU to be better in a good year? I was hoping that would be Hoiberg at ISU.
@Jayballer54 Ok, like when you go to KUbuckets.com It should say KUbuckets.com at the top somewhere that is what Iām calling your browser bar. You can click on the link in the browser bar and it should highlight then you click again and it should give you the option to copy. Click down (or hold your finger down on an iPad screen) in the body of your post (here) and it will give you the option to paste what you just highlighted and copied from earlier.
@HighEliteMajor lol Donāt shoot the messenger. Grimes said he doesnāt expect to be in college to play with Markese in a recent interview. So Iām just reading between the lines.
Iām just trying to adjust my expectations. I still remember being peeved that Pierce left after his Jr. year.
@jayballer54 If you want to add the link to any of the articles you reference all you have to do is copy the address (from up top in the browser bar) and paste it here in the body of your post. Hope that helps.
Grimes expects to OAD. I hope he plays to that level at KU. Time will tell. Iād sure like to see high level play for more than one year out of a guy before he feels the need to get paid. The NBA drafting mostly on potiental makes it detrimental to stay in college too long for freak athletes.
