I miss having a post presence. Been awhile....
Crap
Wish KU had a better D. D always travels. KU's not playing bad, but I don't feel overly impressed. I'd prefer a double digit win as opposed to the 5 point game this is shaping up to be. Leaves too much in the hands of the officials.
As I told my wife, that 40 year old bald dude is still playing for WVU.
Spry for his age.
Crap my kid heard that...
@wissox Called contact before the shot, on the floor. Home court advantage
Whats with all the clock malfunctions?
2 of my favorites, DICK Vitale and Higgins
5 0n 8? I hope not...
@drgnslayr I respectfully disagree, for example: I don't think Vince Young was more intense than anyone else, but he effortlessly ran like a gazelle leaving all in his dust.
Talent and effort don't directly correlate. Nor do output and effort. It's a combination of talent and effort that relate to the output, but not recovery time. Recovery time is driven by age, diet, and specific individual genetic traits. IMHO
@Crimsonorblue22 hope so. That would be good for KU on a couple of levels. High character and high talent.
@approxinfinity I'll get one more in for ya,
Duke Sucks!!!
Zona and UCLA both look better than anyone KU has played so far. I'd love to have the opportunity to play them so KU could punch 'em in the mouth.
@nuleafjhawk My HS team was short handed (and not very good, ok we were terrible). I played 3 regulation games as part of a tournament in one day. The first two games were back to back. I played every minute of the first too games and sat out 3 minutes of the second game when my legs cramped up to where I couldn't move them. Got some fluids, stretched and went back in (ala Graham).
I never played at a high level, but I was giving it my all.
@justanotherfan Recovery time is less the younger you are. I remember being dog tired leaving basketball practice and feeling fairly decent an hour later in HS. But playing a rec league game now would leave me sore for days...
These players are in the sweet spot between those ages. There is recovery time, but it's not as great as it is for us more mature people. And by mature I mean over 35. That's ancient by sports standards.
@wissox Duke is KU's only "good" win. I hope Duke is just in a funk right now, because I have no idea how good KU really is?!? I'm not hanging my hat on the one win, but it'd be nice to see KU beat another good squad, starting tonight.
Some believe the KU players are playing too many minutes. The players think they are ready for the NBA. Here's a look thru an NBA players eyes for perspective.
"It's great to have bodies," James said. "Obviously, in the playoffs, you go down to what, eight max? And if somebody gets in foul trouble, you go to nine. You're not playing back-to-backs. You have two days in between. You're able to lock in."
He contrasted that to the Cavs' schedule this week, which includes five games from Monday to Monday: at New Orleans, home against Sacramento on Wednesday, home against Brooklyn on Friday, home against Oklahoma City on Sunday and on the road in Dallas on Monday.
LeBron is convinced that 2 days off is enough to be fully rested. KU's most intense stretch of the season has 3 games in 6 days. Fully rested by NBA standards.
This is why the NBA players/coaches take/give games/possessions off during the season, but when they get all kinds of rest in the playoffs, 2 whole days between games, they play 100%. KU will always have at least 2 days off between games. No reason to play tired barring injury or sickness.
@BeddieKU23 I'm just shy of 6ft. tall, when I got down to 170 this summer I thought I was getting skinny. I can't imagine being 7" taller at that weight. -bean pole.
@JayHawkFanToo Yeah, I though it deserved it's own thread. Esp. since I didn't check the month old thread before I posted.
Sorry @Crimsonorblue22 this really sucks
Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura 25 died in a car wreck in the Dominican. Such potiental in the young fireballer. Too sad.
BPI is crap.
I dunno. I spent the whole game covering my kids ears last season. I lost my voice yelling at the one game I was at this season. It's not, quiet, but it could be more raucous. Apathy seems to be an issue. That and its $300-800 per seat to sit in the first 10 rows.
Cell phone signals should be scrambled at the game to keep focus on the game. Too much texting instead of watching the game. Gotta prove how cool you are by texting everyone you know from the game, instead of cheering your head off! I hope this trend reverses soon. I'm sick of ipads instead of climbing trees, video games instead of playing outdoors, TV instead of books...
Lonzo Ball was a stud though
The professional courtesy I'm ok with is mostly off the court stuff. Recruiting is a big one. Another is paying praise after wins and losses. You never see Bill trying to get another coach fired. As a matter of fact he tries to build up the poor coaches (Doc Sadler is a prime example), but that may be self serving as he will whoop them every time.
On the court just don't run up the score, don't try to hurt anyone, don't embarrass the other team or coach unnessasarily. I have a hard time believing coaches talk to opposing coaches before the game to dictate pace. I choose to believe that it happens organically. The lesser team wants less possessions as that gives them a better chance to win the game. The better team wants a slower pace to save legs for the next team. The alternative is blowing them out of the water early and cruising late if you are a dominate team, but energy is conserved either way.
Time to hook them horns!
Shaka'll try to make KU run via his pseudo-havok. WVU has 2 losses, he needs KU to lose at WVU. Drag KU down if you can't elevate your program. He needs to keep it close to keep his job. If he doesn't show out next year it'll be his last.
It won't matter. Bill doesn't like Shaka. KU will win going away and it will be like a spirited practice for WVU.
Football is 80 percent mental and 40 percent physical.~ Steve Emtman
@Blown Well some are better than others...
@Blown Yes and the doors open 30 minutes earlier. There is no bad seat in Allen Fieldhouse, best of luck!
The students are seated first. No matter what you do it will be a scramble for the best remaining seats. A couple hours early will get you near the front of the non-student line, usually.
If KU is 10 deep there is no chemistry. If KU is 7 deep they develop chemistry. Roy's teams used to be deep and they could run you to death in the regular season by throwing bodies at you and keeping the pace up. However, come tournament time there are sooooooo many tv timeouts the conditioning edge he held is moot. A 7 man lineup will have plenty of energy and will have great chemistry. Fouls are one of KU's biggest enemies.
@BeddieKU23 It's click bait. You can't say KU will win again, that's expected. Obviously KU is going to win again. I love the timing of the story though...right before WVU loses and digs a two game hole.
I'm curious where the injuries really occur. They play at most 120 minutes of basketball in games a week, usually just 80. No one for KU is playing all 40 minutes so more like 70 minutes per week max.
How many minutes of practice each week? In my experience the good coaches had practices so hard the games were easy by comparison.
So where does the wear and tear occur? In practice due to the strenous nature (long burn) or in games because of players giving 110% (hard burn)? I don't know when Frank hurt his knee, but Dok was finished off in practice. How many black eyes did the players sport last year from practice?
I just don't know where the true fault lies. I do know if you don't practice enough in contact sports you definitely will be injured in games. Where is the line?
@JayHawkFanToo There are more mullets out there than I realized also. Think of the race car crowd, hockey and stock car fans seem to intersect more than they do with other sports.
Hockey is boring on TV, it's boring live. Hockey is boring.
KSU fans have a very high opinion of themselves and their program in my experience. Nothing wrong with that if you have a little humility and respect- they don't. Nor do they have any thing to brag about. The good thing about these fans is they are just people when taken away from sports, but no good conversation about sports will occur.
I just spent a few days stuck in Manhattan in a conference full of KSU pussies. The KU jokes a few of the presenters gave all fell flat even with this audience. Now those are tired jokes and they cost them a tens of thousands of dolllars in my recommendations, because if the competetor has an equal product guess what I'm using?!?
@kjayhawks Yeah, for me it goes Montana, Brady, Bradshaw, Marino, Rogers. If Aaron wins something I'd move him up, he's not accomplished more than Farve at this point though.
@drgnslayr There goes his credibility! I'm a Chiefs fan and I know the Patriots are going to win it all....again. I thought the Chiefs had a legitimate shot, but then there was Pittsburg.
Couch's poll is ridiculous three 3 loss teams ahead of KU. Dude obviously has an axe to grind. If he had KU ranked 3rd the point difference would nearly put KU ranked #1. Good or bad I don't know, but at least Bill can play the disrespect card for now.
Why isn't any one asking about the exclusion of Terry Nooner?
@DCHawker said:
A bunch of youngsters chiming in on this???? Love Frank, Mario, Kirk, Jacque and others, but JoJo White should be on the list - perhaps at the top (2x All-American and 7x NBA All-Star) - as well as Darnell Valentine.
Yup, just the list of players I've seen with my own two eyes when I started watching in '89. I'm aware JoJo may be the best guard to play at KU, but I never saw him thus the omission. Feel free to add any deserving guard to the mix from your memory bank!
@wrwlumpy Yea, that's who I meant to put down. Dude's jumped over me, I know... Thanks for the catch. Edited. I don't think I saw Milt play. I've left other obvious names off also. Too many to include everyone without more planning than the 5 minutes I put into it!
@Crimsonorblue22 I sat behind him at a game last year. He really doesn't exude much emotion. Quiet. Disappeared quickly after the game too (maybe before it was 100% over?) He does get to sit next to Max. If I had those seats all I'd do is listen to him talk (if you could get him going)! I miss Max and Bob too.
@drgnslayr The arena was quiet except that beacon of light of an Iowa State fan. Yeah his character was quickly identified, one of limited vocabulary. My kid was next to me so I didn't point it out, but the 3rd time was too plain.
The crowd wasn't very good last not very racaus in support, but rather a bunch of boo-birds. Boring, unoriginal, middle class, middle age, Idiots Out Wandering Around.
@Crimsonorblue22 The Harlem Shake video that "Wilt" (Justin Wesley) put together stuck with me up the most. I don't know why, but it still cracks me up.
@BShark that's funny!
@Crimsonorblue22 Hoiberg would make a good assistant coach...
@Crimsonorblue22 A restraining order could be drawn up, but I doubt Self would give him the time of day. Not worth drawing attention to that loser or his program.
I miss having the annual opportunity to make Hoibergs baby boy cry. Iowa State Cryclowns
@Crimsonorblue22 Not Hillbillies that's WVU. They are White trash in Iowa. Whiny, sore sports, white trash. They don't have enough character to qualify as hillbillies. Not an interesting sole in that arena. Don't know how to win, don't know how to graciously accept defeat, throw crap and and yell obscenities at the games. White Trash.
Quick prayer:
May you never have to sit by an Iowa State fan during a game. Amen!
