@JayHawkFanToo Chalmers played the 1, but it worked better with RussRob leading the way. So he was used mainly as a combo 2. Similar to how many would like to see Graham take over the ball handling to allow Mason more freedom to score.

Since the question is best guards (1-3) at KU I'd rate the ones I watched since '89 as follows:

@ralster The Derrick Johnson loss is bigger than most realize.

I wish KU had 4 guys that could score in years past. Defensive struggles with no points on the board instead of blowout wins. I like the 85+points they can score on a bad night. I just wish the D could hold opponents to under 45% shooting, because with this o that's all they need. I can't remember a team scoring so easily under Self (both ends of the court).

It's fun, it's different, it's nerve racking on D!

@jayballer54 extreme forecasts are calling for up to 5" of moisture in SW kansas - could be ice could be several feet of snow. Loved seeing Frank drop 27 on OU. That guy is determined to take this team as far as he possibly can! He absolutely hates to lose. This is a way better quality than someone who loves to win. It is what drives him to victory!

As a further part of his legacy the players shorts all look very similar so the equipment managers label the tags with the players name. There is only one exception, one tag reads BIFM.

Bitch, I'm Frank Mason!!!

Sorry guys. I'm stuck in Mancrappen again. It doesn't bode well for the Hawks that I'm here (lost last year). But I'm shedding my meeting outfit and changing into my KU garb. Hopefully It'll spurn a turnaround. On the bright side I'm staying in the same hotel as the KU women's basketball team.

Cool! KU is so highly regarded that KSU losing to Our beloved Jayhawks has vaulted them into the rankings!!!

Mich st, Kentucky, and Duke are all fun games to watch, but not rivals. Not in the truest sense of he word. I don't worry if KU loses to Kentucky, it doesn't hurt KU's seeding much if any. Also there are no U.K. Fans here in sw Kansas to harass me! Not the case with KSU fans. It seems as though a natural rivalry with wsu could form rapidly, but for several reasons just wont/can't. Unless there is a yearly series it's not much of a rivalry.

@approxinfinity amen, That team knew when to gamble. They fed off of each other. This team is different though. I don't think they can get away with gambles as much. They also aren't as freakishly long.

97 steals per season for Mario in his Soph and Jr. seasons.
50 for Frank. 55 and TBD (25 and counting) for Devonte.

They either aren't allowed the freedom or just aren't ball hawks. I wish they would figure out that playing D is fun as it leads to offense and frustrates the heck out of other teams. D travels too.

Inspite of this I like this years team just fine.

Mario was better than DG and higher ranked coming out of HS. I wish DG and Frank could recreate the havoc RussRob and Mario created. That's my dream senario. Then DG can leave a national champion too.

The refs were bad the whole game, not just the last call. The refs didn't consciencely chose KU to win. They were just bad. It wouldn't have come down to a last second shot if the refs had let the teams play instead of removing defense as an option.

I'm glad to escape with a win it was 5 on 7 for KU and KSU.

@mayjay Sometimes I mark as read all non-KU basketball topics from the main page. Stops me from having to read the KU football recruiting thread accidentally, I hate it when I hear there is a shiny new recruit, get all excited...and it's a football player. No biggie though.

High praise for Embiid, yet again...

Embiid had a couple of loud dunks against Boston and finished with a team-best 23 points. Embiid is the first 76er since Allen Iverson (2006) to have five straight games of 23 points or more.

And despite barking at him on the court, Thomas gushed about Embiid's potential.

"He's talented. He's going to be special," said Thomas. "He has the right attitude. You can tell from afar he's a workhorse, he's unselfish, he's a big body that can do it all. Once they get some really good pieces around him, they're going to turn it on."

@Texas-Hawk-10 I'm not disagreeing. What did TJ Whatley do for KU? Walk ons are an important part of the practice squad and help build team GPA. It never hurts to have a NBA GM's son on your team either. I'm pretty sure that was a recruiting tool in and of itself. It's not like KU missed on any recruits because of these guys.

It does always seem as though Fran is rooting against KU. I'm not sure when or why this happened. He couldn't hardly say a good thing about KU without choking in the last game (KSU). Saying nice things about KU was sooo hard on him he lost his voice.
