My whole family is asleep. It's hard to let them... I wanna be LOUD!!!
Tech on Josh? What did I miss?
DOKE!!! Mother frs!!!!!!!!!!! I HATE DUKE
The Dook refs and announcers get old fast...
ESPN headline right now : How did college basketball become Duke, Kentucky and everybody else?
Kaepernick is synonymous with ruining football as an enjoyable mindless past time. Pre-Kaep I watched 90% of the Chiefs games I could. Post-Kaep I haven't watched one. I'm sure I will again, but not until politics are out of it.
I turn to sports and come HERE for entertainment. Unimportant, doesn't matter tomorrow - sports. Politics do not belong in sports. Look at the NFL a double digit decline in viewership this year.
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD LEAVE POLITICS OUT OF SPORTS!!!
edit This is aimed at ESPN and not at @ralster
I want to see numerous backdoor cuts from Josh. I wanna see him in a Keith Langford/slasher type roll. Aggressive, attacking the basket, keeping the D on it's heels the whole game. This opens up the three ball for the rest of the team, but could pack the lane. So spacing is important and getting Josh in space is paramount to his success.
I was hoping KU would be more heavily involved in Frank Jacksons recruitment. Looks like he's balling out for Duke so far, darn.
@jaybate-1.0 I'd like to see Bragg in a point-forward position due to his vision and passing ability, but his handles won't allow it. I'd love to kill small teams with size. Svi and Jackson are as tall as 2/3 the post players out there.
Too bad for us he's not a Sr. on his fair well tour...
I wish Cole Aldrich was around to teach the bigs to keep the ball up and your head up at all times. That guy had the quickest most accurate outlet pass of any big I can remember at KU. He led many a success fast break just by his beautiful outlet passes both off of rebounds and opponent makes. Truly something to study and admire.
You don't replace 2 three year starters in Bill Self's system with a freshman and a seldom used Soph. and expect results the first game. Especially against a quality opponent in the first game. A few missed calls (shot clock violation etc.) a few missed plays by our guys and they lose. No margin for error early, but this is what we all wanted! This is Josh starting and playing thru mediocrity unlike Oubre. This is Josh getting to learn and the team a chance to take it's lumps and gel.
This is how you prepare for April.
@JayHawkFanToo I think one of those pictures may have the negative reversed. If I had to guess (which I am) I'd say Lucas is in both pictures. Who's the white guy though? I don't see Svi, but it's likely a trainer???
ESPN also had a list of the hardest non-con schedules out.
KU #1 and it's not even close.
The Jayhawks begin the season in Honolulu on Friday, where they will face Indiana in the Armed Forces Classic. Four days later, they will play Duke at Madison Square Garden. There's also a road game on Jan. 28 at Rupp against Kentucky. Toss in the CBE Hall of Fame Classic in Kansas City -- where KU will open with UAB (favored to win C-USA) and then get either Georgia or George Washington. The slate also includes: Stanford, Nebraska, Davidson, Long Beach State, Siena and a road game at UNLV. There's just one true cupcake on the schedule: the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
UNC #2
The Tar Heels play three road games -- Indiana, Hawaii and Tulane (at Smoothie King Center). The Heels are also in the Maui Invitational, and they face Kentucky in Las Vegas. Coach Roy Williams also has a quality home slate with the likes of Chattanooga, Long Beach State, Davidson, Tennessee, Northern Iowa and Monmouth.
I'd take Preston and Wooten both. Preston was sporting KU gear at late night - cool with me. And I live on Wooten St. so why not?
@Bwag Great! My wife and I are going. It'd be cool to meet up with our buckets buddies at a game!
We were able to snag some really nice tickets. Hopefully KU balls out!
@HawkInMizery Do you have any hot female co-workers that would take up that bet? If so you're doing something wrong... Lol
Box verts are cheating. They bend their legs up to their chests.
This is the most impressive leader I've seen in person: Kenny Gregory per Wikipedia---
Despite a very large wingspan for a guard of 6'11" (2.11 m) and some very impressive athletic scores at the 2001 NBA pre-draft camp, such as recording the highest no-step vertical jump (40") and the highest maximum vertical jump (46") that have ever been measured at the camp, Gregory went undrafted in the 2001 NBA Draft.[1]
@JayHawkFanToo Lightfoot looks like a more talented version of Jamari Traylor. High energy, high motor, not huge, but very pesky, persistent, and aggressive. He'll be a good 4 year player.
@HawkChamp But his name was Yoggi there's no replacing that!
@Crimsonorblue22 I'll be at the UNC Asheville game are you going to that one (anyone)? It's the day after Thanksgiving and unfortunately the only game I'm probably going to this year.
Kenny Gregory had around a 48" vert which was more than enough to jump completely over me! I believe he held the NBA combine record for vertical leap until recently.
Dead link. What'd it say?
Lucas was solid. In position and didn't screw things up for the rest of the team. Udoka is obviously learning as is Jackson. Once they figure out their respective rolls in the offense everything will look much smoother. Losing two 3 year starters has made the team look rough around the edges.
I personally am glad the team isn't at it's peak in the first game of the season. I am looking forward to watching the team grow and bond!
Embiid leads the team in points 18.5 rebounds 6.5 and Blocks 3.0 per game thru 5 games. While being limited to 24 minutes per game.
@Ralph crud, I thought he was under contract for another year.
Greg Holland for Madison Bumgarner, sure!
@Kcmatt7 no sense trying to reason with some people. I have personally enjoyed the information you have brought to the table. Thanks for doing some of the research I was too lazy to do myself.
What cracks me up is the other side of the argument. Basically saying Wilt is the best ever isn't enough. He has to be better than your guy in any era and it isn't close or they will take their ball and go home.
Hahahaha
I like Tmobiles extras, price, and customer service. My wife has a T-Mobile phone.
I have a Verizon phone because I use it for work and can't afford to be out of service that much. The customer service sucks and there are no extras, but my phone works everywhere unlike the T-Mobile one.
To each their own.
@nuleafjhawk I disliked shaqs style of play and never was a fan of his. But dude was a force of nature. Bill Russel is the only player of hat era that I can think of with enough size to hold position on him. My point is that any dominate modern era center in his prime would put up monster stats in Wilts era.
I am aware that wilt was also freakishly strong, nailed every woman he ever looked at, could walk on water, and was the best center ever. I just don't think the gap is that large.
Who would you rather have Marino or Montana?
@nuleafjhawk against Wilt's competition, Shaquille would've done the same thing. I'm not saying Wilt isn't great, but the playing field isn't level. You really can't compare stats from bygone eras in basketball or football. Baseball stats pre/post steroid era are fairly comparable though.
Yeah, cousins is nice. So is the Spurs big. Embiid may surpass them all if he can stay healthy! Seriously Embiid is like a true 7ft Hakeem with more skill and bulk at this stage in their careers.
Towns is all right...
Davis is a player to build a franchise around.
Graham has my vote to lead the team in scoring this season, but game to game who knows? I'd say if someone lights a fire under him Graham will lead the team in scoring tonight. Jackson may blow up in his debut as well. Bragg may dominate the smaller competition. Frank is too steady (12-14 ppg) to call for as the team leader in points. Lucas won't wow you on the offensive end- it's his all around game that is nice.
My vote is for Graham tonight.
@JayHawkFanToo T-mobile gives freebies every Tuesday. Many times it's a free movie rental on VUDU a few weeks ago it was a free subscription to ESPN the Magazine with ESPN insider access.
Verizon has much better coverage in SW Kansas than T-mobile though. Sprint and T-mobile both cover the KC metro area very well, but Sprint's customer relations are usually poor. (I worked for Sprint repair for a bit - not a bad company from my angle, but not so great for others)
@jaybate-1.0 How do you think Jordan would do without hand checking? The freedom of movement allowed today would favor him immensely. Wilt would be a stud in any era, but there are more footers in the NBA now. And many of those big guys are pretty agile as well. I don't know if he'd put up better numbers now than then, but at least they'd count his blocks!
@DoubleDD Jordan revolutionized the shoe market and we all know exactly how much influence they have over KU's current roster.
@Crimsonorblue22 Scary. Halloween stuff? Pretty dark my friend!
@JhawkAlum Wait a decade and swap Embiid for Hakeem!
@mayjay The game is available within 30 minutes of the conclusion of the live broadcast.
The '13-14 team ball should increase in value if Embiid stays healthy. That guy is a stud! Wiggins should be an all star as well, so the NBA collector becomes interested in the ball driving the price up. Most of the value comes from the KU ties though!
@ralster I wonder how quickly our guys will adjust to the less physical play that is supposed to happen in the post next year. I suppose it depends upon the evenness of the reffing. If some let it go and others call it tight it'll cause so much confusion. Similiar to when Embiid was body slammed without a foul being called confused.
@Lulufulu The official 2007-08 ball brings $1,200-1,500 (there is one on ebay for $1400), 2013-14 $250-500, 2015-16 $200, 2001-02 $400, 1997 $800
Final four years bring around $400.
Championship year brings north of $1200
The '97 ball is rare and was the best team in the nation except one night...
Other years bring $200-250.
The current years ball should be on sale soon/now for around $165 KUStore or for around $250-350 on ebay.
Take 50% off for non-official balls (the ones purchased thru KU with the year stamped into the ball are the official balls). Any autograph balls purchased blank and signed later take a 50-70% hit in price unless PSA or JSA, or equivalent has certified it as authentic. These are not the "official" autograph balls issued by the University in limited #'s once or twice per year.
Happy collecting!!!
@JayHawkFanToo StubHub has a pair of $780 tickets for the 1st row behind the bench for the OSU game in January... Sounds like a solid investment!
I think KU may be chasing the wrong advertising dollars also. Think about how crowded athletic shoe marketing is. Now spread those dollars around to everyone in sports. Look at how much money makes in a year- around $50 billion per quarter. I think Kansas basketball could be a great place to advertise your wares! Slap an symbol on the jersey- that ought to be w0rth a billion or so!!!
On another note I wonder what the true value of a good football team is? $50 million per year? Alabama pulled in 95 million in 2015.
$95,000,000 Alabama football
$23,000,000 Kansas football
What could Kansas athletics do with a spare $73 million?
Offer Nick Saban, Urban Myer, or Harbaugh $15 million per year. Hell $20 million if KU makes the playoffs if that's what it takes! KU currently investes 1/2 million per year in the head coach of what should be the universities top money maker.
That would be one heck of an investment to turn $23 million in revenue into 93 with a 20 million dollar hire,
We had two football coaches in middle school. One ripped our butts up and down- tore us down and built us up better. We won our league under him - lost one game, but they had to forfeit. The next coach was nice built us up, never got too hard on anyone and tried to inspire us to victory. We won two games all year.
I suppose it takes a balance. Tough love - tearing you down to build you up better. Not the my kid is perfect the way he is, how dare you mentality that pervases the masses. But not the total d-bag moves of punching and degrading the athletes.
Unfortunately many of the current crop of kids don't understand that. Any criticism is an attack and they don't understand it's to make them better. I'm not just talking athletes. Finding competent summer help is near impossible.
From what I can see Bill gets it. He tears them down in boot camp to create comradery. He's hard on them in practice, but embraces them after it's over.
Isn't a 5-6K court in the works for the volleyball team?
