well that's a sweet start. - -7-0 Las Vegas barely 3 minutes into the game
Well guys here is the MAIN concern I have for the Gonzaga game this coming week. - I think we could be in some big time trouble on the inside , there might be the determining factor of the game. - -they have three guys for fouls and they go 6'10 - - -7 foot - - & 7 foot. - -I'm afraid Dave could very easily get in foul trouble and then What ? - -the difference between having quality depth and not. - -I mean ya we have Mitch and I love Mitch BUT size wise & Bulk he just can't match up with these guys - Could pose big time problems. That's if we even play the game have my doubts
I see Where Washington Cancelled their advent that included San Diego St , & Uc Irvine - - cause of the COVID. -- I know we are not playing in that area - - -BUT isn't Gonzaga located out around there ? - -Hope they aren't having a lot of COVID issues there
Also little edit. - -Read from an individual that they had thought about going to the game. Tickets selling for 600.00 a piece and you have to buy at least two - - -They are limiting people to max of 300 -- pretty crazy
@drgnslayr said in so looks like Covid starting to cause problems with basketball already:
My perspective on this seems to flow directly with my politics. I'm an independent, basically despise both major parties. I've never seen this virus as anything political. I have friends on both sides, and I vowed early on to not lose any of them over this issue. Still have them all. I have strong opinions in some areas, but I do my best to stay respectful at all times and try to see other sides of this.
I'm well-educated in the sciences and had years experience as a lab tech in one of the largest hospitals in Kansas when I was young and thinking medicine would be my life. I dealt with infectious disease daily and still give thanks to being well protected with PPE. I feel strongly that masks are very effective at slowing this virus down, especially N95 or better. I wear N95 today, try to keep social distancing (but not perfect) and don't do the large gatherings. I've made it this far, but feel fortunate because my kids are my biggest source of risk, and their lives have created the need for three quarantines so far. I am the medical administrator of my 87 yr old father. I can not completely separate myself from his presence. He is high risk. Covid isn't a game with me. Not a hoax. Not some bragging point for a political side. It's a threat within my family and I respect it as a threat.
We can argue all we want until we are blue in the face, but I only have to state one word to defend my side.... Taiwan! Google "Taiwan Covid" and you will receive an education on the right way to handle this virus and how our country failed miserably. I know Trump and his administration could have done better... but I don't think any administration would have been able to do what we needed to do, which is what Taiwan did. Their secret weapon was having Chen Chien-jen (an Epidemiologist) as their VP. Their people are not so focused on independent liberties.
To date, Taiwan has suffered only 7 deaths with a population of 25 million. They had their first case around the same time as us, while receiving a higher traffic of Chinese mainland visitors. They've never shutdown their economy. Didn't need to. Life goes on for them while we fight among ourselves.
My point is... science wins when we believe in it and play by the rules. Our only hope for getting our lives back is to back science. Our economy will not recover just by keeping it open. Most of the public does not have confidence to get out there and live like they once did. I know I don't, and I can't. I have too much at stake to risk people in my own family and also have no desire to spread it to others.
We have only begun to deal with this virus... many who have contracted Covid have developed chronic issues that may continue for the rest of their lives. Turns out Covid may actually be a vascular disease. All your organs are at risk for long term damage. That damage may show up now, or down the road. You can bet Covid is going to cost us financially for the rest of our lives. We are not even having those conversations yet. Google "long haulers" for a taste of chronic issues.
I am a business owner and I have been heavily impacted financially because of Covid. I totally agree that we need to do whatever we can to keep people from financial collapse. This is where the gov should be of more assistance. I'm not a socialist and have never taken a single free cent from our gov, and haven't with this either. I don't want free money. But I see it is necessary to help people at this time. Actually, it fits in my beliefs as a fiscal conservative to rescue people at this time as an investment in our long term stability.
Sometimes being a nation of individualists doesn't pay off. Sometimes we need to come together with a single purpose. We once were a country that did that... but we aren't any longer. Consider this virus the warning shot of something much more deadly ahead and we will again not listen to science and all do our own thing.
During WWII, my grandfather took my mother to Los Angeles so he could work for Lockheed Burbank. Because of the threat of Japanese bombings the city was on a blackout. You couldn't even light a candle. The community came together. Renegades who didn't follow orders (not many) were flogged. This is the America I like to remember... but it is gone. And if it isn't this virus with it's death rate of 1-2% but potential to kill 2+ million Americans, it will be the next one. Perhaps H1N5. We won't have time to play games with that virus.
Very well said. Great post. I too wear a mask when i DO go out , I mean I've not secluded myself because of the virus but really don't make it out a lot at the present cause of some issues kin of hard to right now. When I do I wear the mask , I have others to think about my Wife is very high risk & I sure don't want to put her in harms way. - - Like you have had to quarintine 2 times myself because of my Daughter and Nephew not really sure what they are not understanding with this , i think they are like Sooo many others just don't believe it's that big of deal or that THEY can't get it & or are just tired of it and like a lot are now just saying more or less screw it. Not giving any consideration to others.
I wear my mask - -I use the hand santatizer out of respect also, and I fully believe that this is no joke - -OR any kind of hoax. So many have lost their lives and yet people want to say this is a Hoax ? - please wake up , and too I've never thought this any political thing some just don't get it.
Just gonna say again please my friends take this seriously like I said my wife and I both are high risk , her with her breathing issues and on O-2 24/7 every day - - ALL day and lungs being shot and me with Heart conditions and asthma this thing is no joke and NOT going anywhere soon

The influx of the elderly into hospitals seems to indicate that we're not doing a great job protecting our senior citizens. This isn't a new problem and dates way back to when the virus first arrived and was allowed to run rampant in nursing homes.
Or, conversely, it indicates that they are sick of the preventive measures and prefer to take risks in order to see people they care about (like most of my neighbors and my own parents).
One thing it doesn't do is make is a compelling case for shutting down schools, the economy, etc.
Would have to agree with this

Agree with this. The issue is that it seems some hospitals are being overwhelmed again in larger population areas.
Here in Topeka they are in discussions of where to house Patients because of over flow/ Early talks of the Stor Mont Vail event Center - - the old Expo Center.
Just heard Dr Faucci said the Vaccine would be available in April. - -Lots of sickeness and positive cases and Deaths by April

@jayballer67 yeah, it would be a fine. Similar to a noise complaint type deal.
Boy my friend just read from my local WIBW site here in Topeka , not sure where exactly your at but hee in Shawnee Co which is right next to Douglas Co and Lawrence here are the latest numbers that just came out today for the COVID - -if THIS doesn't make you realize just how bad things have gotten - - I don't know what will.
They have a health scorecard - well Shawnee Co just maxed out. The highest score you can have is a 24. Shawnee Co is at 24. they said the highest level possible for the COVID our weekly case incidence of over 1,ooo new cases - - a 17.5 positive test rate and a 95 % hospital occupancy rate - the cases rose from 783 to an uncontrolled 1,027 for the week of Nov 8-14
The pct of New Cases with no known source of infection from 17.7 % to an uncontrolled 92 %.. Hosp occupancy rate went from 82.2 % to an uncontrolled 95 % - - -cases per week have increased 31 % from last week any positivity% over 10 % indicates heavy uncontrolled community transmisson. - - - Kansas is now the 5th most infectious State in the Nation
Do we REALLY think we will have a Basketball Season?
@FarmerJayhawk said in so looks like Covid starting to cause problems with basketball already:
@jayballer67 basically people narcing on each other.
ya your right about that but still I mean even if they do that - - what happens ? - -how or would they have to face some kind of penality or what ? - -I mean it's really going to be hard to enforce and follow up
Just curious . Here in Shawnee Co they have just put in force new health orders. All restaurants and bars have to close at 9:00 - ALL sports have been cancelled other then School , not sure what other one's there would be other then School . Restaurants must run at 50 %
Reduced gatherings public or private - limiting to no more then 10 People , so like the one Comissoner said he didn't want to punish people on private gatherings like for Thanksgiving.
So here is my question probably pretty crazy question BUT with this new order - - how in the hell are they planning on enforcing private gatherings such as Thanksgiving? - what are they going to do go door to door to EVERY HOUSE in the County and ask - - HEY how many people do you have in here? I don't see any way in hell they going to be able to enforce this - - -pretty much the same if they decide a curfew or mask man date - how you going to enforce these things. - -You can't stop every car to see if they have their mask - -crazy. - not saying I disagree just saying how you gonna enforce ?
Well I learned/surprised with 2 things last night from the Draft.- -# 1 just really surprised me Doke end up in the 1st round. I just didn't think that was going to happen, more like top end of the 2nd to middle. Couldn't be happier for him.
Then 2nd Devon not being drafted AT ALL. - From everything I had heard/kept hearing was how good he had done in some trials - the shuttle and things like that interviews he had had with teams. I actually thought he would go before Doke , just kind of shocked me when he went un-drafted I think he got over looked by some teams, thought he should of went before some others towards the end for sure - -but tha'ts why they are who they are and I am who I am and they are at where they are at and I'm where I'm at. - -On top of that I'm just a little Biased I reckon.
Again just threw me after what I had been hearing. Coach had said everything he had been hearing was that him and Doke both had really good NBA trials and talks. Super quick - -can distribute the ball pretty well but understand his shot needs some work. - I think too it's just a matter of how the draft played out.
Hope he can hook on with the bulls maybe
Hell Ya Doke goes 1st round, seriously I didn't think that would really happen. He got to be really happy. - Way to go big boy # 27 in 1st round - -GREAT JOB DOKE - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
just posted that this is getting beyond bad. They have brought in Mobile Morgue here in Topeka at the local hospital - -not good
Well we now have had Mobile morgue brought in to the hospital here in Topeka at Stor Mont Vail - -getting really bad
Draft night , So where does Dotson Land # wise ?- -Where does Doke go # wise? - -Who goes 1st Doke or Dot?
I think Devon goes before Doke - -really doesn't matter either way they both go. - -I look for both to go in 2nd round and I think they both go in the upper end of the 2nd round - - we will see. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

it's been cancelled for this weekend, that's what I'm talking about cancelled, not played, no go ,ain't happening, no show ,will not play, no one there, teams no show, cancelled this weekend
My friends let me ask you all , are you getting that feeling in the pit of your stomach ? - -I know I am , with the way this dam COVID is racing /spiking now and no vaccine yet I just don't see how many games will get played this Season , and probably screwing us of another Season.
They have announced that NO fans will be allowed in the KU/UK game on the 1st of December, I think we all realize when it's all said and done that there will be NO FANS - - zero in the Phog IF we do get to play any , right now at this minute we get to have what 1.500 for the games ? - -I look for that to change with them announcing no fans at the rest of KU football - -be ready no fans in the Phog is coming. I think your going to see a lot of cancellations.
They were talking to Weber at K-State the other day he said they had planned on having a scrimmage with referee's the other day & they couldn't even scrimmage 4 on 4 because of the COVID. - - Weber talked about how important walk on's very well could be this year cause I guess one of the regulations is for the Season you have to have 7 Scholarship players available to be able to play games this Season
I hate it guys, but I think we are going to take a HUGE HIT again. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
Game against Texas has been cancelled for Saturday as KU is not able to ful fill the requirements for then game because of the COVID. - -no surprise with this crap being as bad as it is around here
came across on the local sports talk off WIBW - -no fans in the stands for football OR Basketball till Dec.
Well at this minute really hasn't changed much seeing as how KU doesn't play in the phog till Dec 3rd ? - -they said -- BUT like they also said they don't think there will be any fans even after that because - - - - -this COVID isn't going anywhere - so more likely then not we will not have any fans at the Phog all year. - -this isn't just going to vanish between the 17th of November and Dec 3rd - gonna be different for sure
No fans for football remaining games either as if that really matters this year. -- ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
Phi Kappa Phi Fraternity at KU has been shut down after being charged with Hazing & Drug use - - -sweet. Will be shut down on the 25th of Nov , and earliest it can be re-opened will be in 2026

Then we have People who wanna just brush this off as a nuisance a incovience - that's just sad.
Like the nurse said until people want to start to follow guidelines then it's only getting worse, - - she says it's now a matter where it has come down to an issue of respect

my question would be how are they going to work all these 1st round games into ONE bubble stadium, as there will be no way they can get them all in ? - was reading the article off ESPN - -going to present some real challenges. Was talking about all the cities that was losing their 1st round and 2nd round games
Just doing some editing. Now I'm hearing they talking on local sports talk show about different sites in Indy they can use - -talking about using the court from butler university , then naming some others - -that's defeating the purpose - - they wanted a bubble enviroment Umm Butler University , and others aren't bubble - -that won't work - -if they going to play on multiple sites in Indy then why take them away from the other host sites

Well HELL just since I got on this site like 15 minutes ago my daughter called and told us her ex son-in-law tested positive for the COVID. Which means my little 3 year old Grandson has been exposed and is going to have to quarintine - that's just great - - keeping my fingers crossed, just means my daughter , her boyfriend , and all his kids also have been exposed
@justanotherfan said in so looks like Covid starting to cause problems with basketball already:
It will be hard to get through the full season without at least a few hiccups. Not every school is positioned like KU to isolate their basketball teams in a single dorm. That means more exposure. You would also need to essentially "bubble" everyone (managers, coaches, training staff, etc.) that would otherwise come into contact with the team to avoid exposure. With cases going up so fast in so many places, chances of avoiding exposure for 15 different people is pretty tough if they are having contact with outside individuals.
Someone I know that works in the medical community told me that they are not expecting a vaccine to be available to first responders until early Spring at best, which means it probably won't be available generally until mid to late summer at the earliest. The other thing we don't know is how long immunity lasts post vaccine. Flu shots last 10-12 weeks. If this is at all similar, that means we need a shot roughly every two months to protect the population. That's six doses a year. Multiply by the population (350M in U.S. alone) and that's over 2B shots needed in a year.
Every plan I have seen is to distribute about 100M shots. If those go to first responders, that's probably only a year's worth of doses for that group. Suffice it to say, a vaccine is not coming to save us, or at least isn't going to save us next Spring.
ya they wee talking about here in Shawnee Co that the 1st vaccine will go to our front line health workers, have heard ANY Vaccine is many months away
@Kubie said in Feeling pretty fortunate today/ Blessed - puts things in perspective:
I am happy to hear they caught the shooter, even happier your wife is in good shape!
Thank you we appreciate that. - Kind of crazy , she went from being a witness to a victim is how the Police put it. Now she has to go to the trial and such. She still edgy with things all from the result of the gun shots. - -Tell you how fast the guy came into the lot when he went airborn and landed in between the two tree's - the 1st time the towing Co tried to pull it out - - it busted the chain had to put two chains to get it un-wedged
Myself I'm ALL IN on taking precautions to keep from getting the COVID. -IF they had a vaccine now to take I'd be right there to take it but we don't - -they have said I heard that it is still months away , Like Gov Kelly said here in Kansas that when we do get the vaccine the 1st time will be little and the 1st to receive it will be front line health care workers - it's still off away for most people
Like I said if it was available you bet I'd be there - - I'll wear my mask , do I like wearing it ? - - -Hell no I don't but I have this thing called respect - - respect for others - this isn't just about me , I respect other people's health - - and it pisses me off you don't wanna wear the mask sure screw everyone else your around- -you spread it to them - -eh no biggie right ? - -that's what it boils down to - -personally if you have a death wish then fine that's on you -BUT for me I'd rather stick around a bit yet - you don't respect yourself enough then whatever - but maybe you could at least repect others enough to just wear the dam thing while your around other people - it's more then just you that your effecting with your - - OH they not gonna make me wear no dam mask I'll show them type attitude. - -Again I don't get my rocks off by having to wear the dam thing either - - but I do & I will out of respect
Maybe people could go to El Paso right now if they have the I don't give a dam attitude perfect place - - contract the virus then maybe they could put you in the pit to where a Nurse thats came in to help said - -there is a place they put the most critical COVID patients saying these patients that are put there - the DR's don't even come in saying the only way a patient comes out of there is in a body bag - -Dr's don't go in afraid of contracting the virus - -nurses are only allowed to preform CPR 3 times - pretty crazy - maybe people who think this is all a hoax can go visit there tell these patients that it's just a hoax.
Some just don't get it - -people wanna try and compare this with the flu - -I could give a flying rat bats ass about the flu - -this isn't the flu - -it's the COVID - - we have ways to deal with the flu - -we don't have anything yet with the COVID till we do what's so dam hard about trying to take measures to try and curve it? other then things like washing your hands - -wearing a mask and other incoviences might have you do - -you don't want to respect yourself , then fine but PLEASE at least try and think about someone other then yourself for a change

Like I was saying a minute or two later so would of been backing out and the way she would be headed she would of been T-boned and like 100 % probability of the truck being riddled with gun shots - - we are trying to figure how we can or do something for the Quik shop employee. - Just a kid like 21-22 yrs old - he said all he could see was his GranPa cause he GrandPa got shot I guess , and he said I was just thinking to protect my wife rather he be the one get shot then her - -hell of a kid - -thanks again for your thoughts
Guys it's when things like this , really puts things in perspective. The wife and I pretty much doing our Daily ritual - She went down to the local quik shop to get a drink , and I was getting around to take my Daily walk. -Told her I'd see her when she got back or I got back whatever
So I went out on my walk and got out a little bit and I heard gun shots , motioned to the guy across the street - motioned to him by hand as he had his leaf blower running , motioned to him shots - -I heard 5 shots - - I thought Dam I'm not really sure I want to be out in this.
So i thought I better call the Wife to tell her to be careful not sure where they were coming from , & I called and she answered and was really upset - - - -Said she was just been in a Shooting , she came walking out of the Store and was talking to an employee on her way back to the Truck and this Car come driving into the lot I think they said Chrysler 300 another car right behind it and the 2nd car opens up and starts shooting - - - the Car goes right beside my wife's truck how he ever got by our truck we will never know - -crashed down in the revene -- a bullet grazed one of the guys head.
Here is the thing the Quik shop employees tossed my wife down o the ground and then climbed on her/over her to protect her from the shots - -to think if she had gotten to the truck a minute earlier she would of been backing out and would of gotten hit by this cat and probably by shots being fired - very easily could of lost the wife today
Just put's life in perspective- her I am worried about Basketball and today my wife could very easily been gone. - -The Police took her Statement - - checked the truck for bullet holes and scratches - now she is waiting for the detectives to talk to her - -got to go to Court and tetstify as they DID catch the guy - - THANK GOD

KU basketball is in a pretty good spot for minimizing their exposure because of McCarthy Hall. The players have their meals delivered so they don't have to go to the dining hall. They pretty much only have online classes to minimize interaction with the student body and the players pretty much only go between McCarthy and Allen Fieldhouse right now. Even within McCarthy, each player has their own room this year to minimize interaction further.
KU is set up as well as anyone in the country to have their own bubble type environment on campus. Obviously not 100% able to protect everything because of the coaches, trainers, and support staff not being isolated, but nobody else has anything definitively better than what KU has to minimize exposure and risk.
Also just saying here but to go on top of the isolation they already have , when the students go on home for the Thanksgiving break or whatever Thanksgiving or Fall break students that go won't be coming back until after the 1st of the year. - -Sure there will probably still be students on campus but like you said classes will be on line on top of the players being in thei own rooms

Just another sign that we know that things are not going good. Out of Nemaha Co here in Kansas , just like so many others had opted out of Gov Kelly's mask mandate when it was 1st issued. Now this :
Nemaha Co voted to rescind it's July 2nd order of opting out of the mask mandate and NOW is ordering and implement the mandate immediately. Commissioners noted when they opted out initially that they only had 20 confirmed cases with no hospitalizations or Deaths.
As of Thursday they have 670 confirmed cases - -244 active cases 7 people have been hospitalized and 6 deaths the mandate will remain through Dec 14 and then reviewed to see if needs to be extended or not. - -Stating to see this more and more

You know keep seeing more & more about Jonas Aidoo and the mentioning of KU on other sites. - - 247 was evaluating the Big 12 Early Signing and they were talking about KU and Aidoo possibly signing with KU possibly - -him or saying that if KU could get either him or Mac Etienne , I think our chances are a lot better with Aidoo though - -again if that should happen I think would be solid.
then they were talking about Back Court help and talking about Hunter Sallis - -which I know guys we all agree don't think there is a snowballs chance in hell of that happening , - -But here is a Name I guess we have been recruiting hadn't heard - -talking about the possibility of Brandin Podziemski - KU currently -Ranked # 34 in the Nation in recruiting and saying if KU could land either Sallis or Podziemski that could put KU in the top 10 for recruiting - -maybe some hope - -if we could get Aidoo AND Podziemski - -would be a really solid class. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
from todays conference - Coach was asked where David's biggest growth was, his response was scoring. - -Coach talked about how Marcus had made separation - - how David had made separation , how Braun had made SOME separation maybe not as much as they would like.
They asked Coach about if he was worried about the COVID and he said well ya he was - -talked about how he had heard that Oklahoma had shut down a couple of days ago ? Talked about he had heard a Biden advisor that he could see the possibility of a 4-6 week shutdown
He talked about how David and Mitch was going to have to get 33-37 minutes out of the two and wouldn't mater if one was playing great or not the other was still gonna get his minutes -saying it wouldn't effect Mitch one way or another if Dave was playing great or the other way - wouldn't effect Mitch playing -just some misc things from today
Well found out just now that the wife's Nephew will be starting for his 2nd NFL game this weekend for Jacksonville Jaguars. He was pretty decent in his debut , 26-38 for 304 yards 1 rushing TD and 1 passing TD and a INT
He is the 1st rookie QB in the history of the Jacksonville franchise history to throw for 300 yards in his 1st NFL debut. Also 1st NFL QB to throw for 300 yards plus - - rush for a TD and pass for a TD in his NFL Debut since 1950 - -pretty good.
Should be really interesting for the family this weekend as he is coming to Lambeau to play against MY TEAM the Packers and Aaron. - - Sorry my dear wifie but I've have got to pull for my Packers. - - Had to laugh the wife says they better not hurt my Nephew - - - lol - -ya - - OK lol. - - she better talk to Kenny Clark and the Z man and Preston Smith about that - might get ugly for him.
Still proud for how he has started out though. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
@Marco said in so looks like Covid starting to cause problems with basketball already:
I agree, definitely trending in the wrong direction. I understand that all drugs or vaccines have side effects, but the FDA will not know what they are for maybe years. In the meantime, people are dying now. The Pfizer vaccine needs to be fast-tracked, now is not the time for micro-managing redtape and or politics.
the thing with the Vaccine is, as when i was listening to the report from the Governor an Dr Norman even WHEN WE DO get the vacicne the Governor said it will be limited and mainly be used at first on front line health care workes -it is going to be some time before we would see it
@BeddieKU23 said in so looks like Covid starting to cause problems with basketball already:
Believe Uconn also had to pause. Football games being canceled/postponed left and right. It's definitely trending to back to the spring when everything was shut down
that's what I'm afraid of. I mean also on a lower level High Schools , elementary schools shutting down and if that's happening it has to mean things are getting worse which we know anyways & I'm just afraid that this COVID is going to cause fits with the College Season - - -AGAIN
UIf we haver disruption again or heaven for bid if it causes the cancellation of Season somewhere along the line I don't know how some of these Schools will be able to keep their heads above water - -it doesn't look good
read where COVID causing problems already. - - Seton Hall has paused all activities because of COVID if they quarintine for the 14 days puts their 1st 2 games in jeopardy already - - - - -Miami has Cancelled it's 1st game against Stetson because of the COVID - - -- Minnesota has paused activities because of COVID - -this is a bad sign for things to come I'm afraid
Well I know it's far out but just saw we got our 3rd 2022 verbal recruit. - -DB from Lee Summit North out of Missouri - -Dewaun Mack. - good to hear - - goes along with QB Austin Meyers & Brock Burns Ol - -out of Arkansas. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
@FarmerJayhawk said in Wichita lololol:
Just for the sake of conversation, would Danny taking the WSU job make folks fans? I say yes. I kind of liked them as the plucky underdog when Turg was there, then really hated Gregggggggggggg "chicken hawks" Marshall. The American seems like more Danny's speed than the ACC and I think he could be successful with assistants who were good recruiters.
ya I agree I would pull for them IF Danny ended there - -a little anyways - -Danny still a JayHawk forever - I mean after all he was the big part of Danny and the Miracles.
would be hard but I think you would find KU people maybe not pulling for WSU BUT pulling for Danny . -- ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
