@jayballer73 Deep breath ... one, two, three ... release.
Again, one can be happy and thankful, but not satisfied.
It's how folks achieve greatness in whatever they do. Kobe passed away. Do you think that guy was ever really satisfied with what he did? Do you think Self ever feels satisfied?
You, of course, completely ignore the point regarding the pursuit of ultimate success. Maybe wired differently. That's fine.
But the tourney is not one major crapshoot. A complete myth. In the last 30 years, UK, KU, Duke, and UNC have won 11 NCs. Over one-third of the titles. UConn won four times. A team (Florida) went back to back. And Nova won two of three. Of course, there's a lot of risk. Folks like to say crapshoot. But major programs win most every time. Michigan St., UCLA, Virginia, Louisville, Syracuse, Maryland.
In the last 30 years, there a have been no Cinderella champs like NC State, KU or Nova in the 80s. Arizona won in 1997 (ugh) as a five seed. The myth that is perpetuated about title winners is derived from the 80s. The last three decades is much different.
We perpetuate the myth because it's Self serving (yes, capital S). The myth helps Roy's legacy here, too.
No doubt, this isn't like the CFB alleged playoff where top teams are placed there. And the more games create greater risk. But when three different teams have won 16 of the 30 titles (UConn, Duke, UNC, UK) and you chip in two others (Florida and Nova) that won two each, that's 20 of 30 or an amazing66.7%, that completely defeats the Self-serving narrative. six teams won 2/3s of the titles. Think about that when you're shooting craps.
We've wildly underachieved .. WILDLY. Self more than Roy. Roy's first 5 seasons were not easy was what Self came into. Roy took a team that went on probation. But let's just treat them equally. We've wildly underachieved from NC standpoint over the last 30 seasons.
Truth.
Now, again, happy and thankful (very thankful), but not satisfied.
As an old friend used to say here, "capisce?"
it's pointless trying to talk to you - - it's your story BUB you just keep riding with that - -hope you enjoy I see no sense in your failed sense of humor - one - -two - -breath my ass. So anyways where were we again? - -Oh ya love the way to deflect - - and yes it is a crap shoot not matter how you try and twist it around to fit your story BUT again you just keep riding your pony ok - -whatever gets your boat to float ok - -or as a person I saw - - Capisce? - -thinks for the word for the day -- keep on telling your jokes - - I LOVE YOUR SENSE OF HUMOR.
Now it's time to stop our lovely cross discussion ok? - Cause the other KU friends on here don't need to keep seeing the senseless babble - you hang on to your little train of thoughts - -I'm sure you will go far with it and I'll just mosey off into the sunset from this - okie doke ? - -Capisce? - -See good for you , you showed me an old word that I thought was long gone but how silly of me thank you so much. - -Now I know you will just HAVE to respond so go ahead - -get it over with so this little conversation is done.

@jayballer73 It's a mindset. If you don't live your life that way, that's fine. To each their own. There are some though that live their lives differently. Your choice is to mock that alternative mindset. But you respond in predictable fashion. We fashion ourselves in the same breath as UK, Duke, and UNC. Those are our peers. Heck, I've seen folks argue here that we're a better program than those others.
In the last three decades - UK 3 NCs; UNC 4 NCs; Duke 5 NCs. Kansas just one.
One can be happy and thankful but not satisfied.
and your choice is to constantly bitch and wine , So if your so un happy about the way the program is then what have you done? - -Have your E-Mailed the athletic Dept attention Coach Self ? - -Have you Called and spoke to Coach Self about how your un happy with what he has doe with the ELITE talent that we have had ? - - Have you taken the time and spoke With Coach about your dis-pleasure the way he has handled the program and his lack of success with the program? - Have you offered your services and told him you could give him some insight on how to make the program so much better and tell him how to win those Championships?
You come across to the point of that your thinking is that they just automatically drop these Championships in your lap , that it is just a given that when w decide we want a Championship then BAM/PRESTO/DONE.
Your always so quick to critize the program and it's lack of success, you don't think coach wouldn't love to win multiple Championships ? What you think the Coach and Staff just wake up some morning and say oh screw it , let's not win the Championship this year , I mean after all we have one ONE - - good to go? lmao Or you think these players just say ehhh WTF it's ok we won ONE Championship - who needs another ?
There is a lot that goes into someone winning a Championship - - your seeding , Health of the team , how your playing at that particular time , how the game goes , a turnover here , a turnover there , foul trouble -- The tourney is one MAJOR CRAP SHOOT, - A team can be dominant throughout the entire year and still not end up winning the Championship. - -One example would be , don't remember the year for sure but - -the UNLV team that went unbeaten throughout the entire season like 26-0 ? maybe? - total Domination with Larry Johnson that year - -you don't think they thought they wasn't winning that title? - What Happened ?
It just depends on who is on a roll at the time , again a crap shoot Hell if it is that easy you talk about all of the ELITE talent why hasn't UK - - UNC -- DUKE won even more then they have , these Schools have ELITE - -ELITE year after year after year , UK has either the top ranked class practically yearly , Duke right there too why haven't they won even more then they have - -ELITE talent right ? - -is it because of poor coaching? - How many Championships did Ol Roy win when he was at KU ? - -ZERO - he had Elite talent here.
Do you think KU was a dominant team the year with Danny when we won the Championship in 88? - - Hell no, yet we just got on a roll at the time , things feel in place for us. Higher rated teams/seeds got knocked off that year for us - - everything just feel into place. - -How many times in a normal year do you think we won the Championship with that team and players we had?
Hell ya everyone here would love for us to win more Championships then we have - -but we don't constantly talk crap about Coach -some are just never happy , be glad what w DO have. - -I know about 200 other Schools would love to have the success this School has and the Coach we have.
Bottom line is at the end of the day. Season - there is only ONE winner. , Everyone else ends up with a loss, or as some might think or believe losers - -Everyone can't end the Season with a Championship. - -If your so unhappy with the way Coach has done here lack of Success or Championships - -then why stay? - - or would you just hang around and whaler around in your misery and continue to bitch about what KU hasn't done? - just insane. Have a great day

@mayjay That's a difference. Some are content with certain success. Some aren't. Some define success as just not being bad or average or just better than good, and thus are content with not achieving greatness. We've only been the "champion" once in the last three full decades. We've only achieved "greatness" once in 30+ seasons. That's ridiculous underachievement given our talent and two incredible hall of fame coaches and he level of our program. If our other successes provide contentment in the face of the alternatives for some, fine. But not for me.
I REALLY think you need to go into Coaching HighElite that way all our problems would be solved - -we would NEVER have to worry about National Championships EVER again - Championship every year Anything less will not be acceptable but not to wory , we have you at the helm Lot of Schools - - Lot's of ridiculous for everyone -- lots of under achievors lots of Schools wish as much if not more then ours, BUT we think we all have had this discussion before haven't we? - -Have yourself a great day - -GEEZ

Just to step back a moment...How many of us who attended KU in the 70's would have ever imagined all the anguish and lamentation about a #3 ranked team?
Those of you who started in the 80's and since have no idea the difference that extra 10 years of perspective can make! That is why I never get too disturbed by disappointments or too caught up in expectations. The joy of KU excelling these past 30 years will live as long as I do.
Okay, retrospective is done. Feel free to stress some more.
Oh I remember some of the Teddy years. - -Good recruiter for that time frame - -just couldn't Coach - - -I remember the Robisch , the Koeings years , the Kivisto years , the Nash years , The Pierre Russell years - -pretty decent players - - I remember years where you could buy a ticket and sooner then later during the game you could buy a ticket and then sit just about where you wanted
I fully believe if we were to play Duke right now , we beat them on the neutral court.
Read that we are One of Seven Schools recruiting this kid the hardest according to him.
Alex Tchikou a 6'11 power forward from Dream City Christian Arizona says : USC , Oregon , Arizona , Arizona State , Mississippi State , Baylor & KU are the hardest at recruiting him # 30 overall player in the class of 2021 and the # 8 ranked Power Forward.
Versatile player can score at all three levels - - shoots the 3 - -can bock shots. - Saying Schools likes how he can play all positions. Arizona came to watch him when he was playing the point.
Looking for a School that will allow him to show his skills I'm assuming at different positions. Said when it comes time to pick a school looking to see how he fits , says he is looking more for fit then even a name of a School. Looking for that School that will communicate with him. - - Out of France , says the biggest transition he has had to make from there to ball in the United States is the speed of the game.
What he had to say about KU : Said KU recruiting him made him proud, saying cause when he 1st got here all he heard was like KU - - Kentucky - -D uke - -the blue bloods. - Saying KU has had a lot of pro's and Big Names. Looking for the feel he gets for the Campus , the players and the Coach. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
Let me start and say first that in no way am I implying that I would want him by any means but more just out of Curiousity
What do you think of Leonard Hamilton? - -Seems like he found his home at Florida St , been there for some time , seems like his team runs decent offense.
This year # 5 in the Nation - - 17-2 on the year & 7-1 in the ACC. - Has pretty competitive teams pretty constantly, again I am not even beginning to say I would want him here, just curious what others think of him. I remember when he was at Oklahoma St

I feel Marcus has become a solid back up PG - had like 9 assists last night - -not to sure think zero turnovers. I still have all the confidence in the world for Ochai I think he is going to be just fine
Kind of Scary to think what we can be like next year going forward with the 4 guard line up with the addition of Thompson & Dave at the 5 with the other Big's to play back up. - -Kind of curious how Jalen fits I next year with the 4 guard?

People who are hoping and or thinking Baylor is going to implode are going to be very dissapointed. They have won 17-18 straight games and have some real impressive wins. They are pretty much a lock for a #1 or #2 seed along with playing in the second weekend of the tournament. In a year where there is not a dominant team they have as good shot as anyone to cut down the nets.
They are an elite defensive team and a way above average offensive team that has some shooters.
couldn't agree more. They are just an overall really sound solid team

@jayballer73 you don't think we've improved? Did you see the ou vs Baylor game?
sure did, and YET they still won didn't they? - - That's what good teams do , they can play ugly have poor games and good teams still find ways to win - just like us - w play poorly at times but more times then not Coach and the guys finds just enough to win. - Baylor is good

@jayballer73 I'm sorry - I have to do this.
Baylor will implode sooner or later. They are Baylor. Imploding is what they do. They are Top 5 in the country in imploding.
I have confidence in them.
it's ok for you to feel like you do. - -but I'm telling you that even Coach can't screw this team up. - -Really , Really good set of guards, actually better then good. - -Very solid rebounding , good free throw shooting, Very solid defense - -what's not to like. I understand some may wanna be sick thinking Baylor might actually have a rock solid club - but proof is in their body of work
They came into the phog and pretty much man handled Ku on our home floor, They beat Villanova , a team we couldn't , they went to Florida and pretty much did what they wanted. Just really show me a weakness they have on the floor. - -I said ON THE FLOOR -not the sideline, hard to find a better set of guards. I'm just not to proud to give credit where credit is due - and believe me they got credit due.
I have no problem with you feeling that way , all I'll say is that from what I've seen this year I would almost put more money on them making it then NOT MAKING it
That's a good question actually. kind of complex , and has lots of twists and turns.
On the one side the Big 12 conference has some teams that are really offensively challenged this year , really bad. Yet Scoring is down across the Nation , there are a lot of offensively challenged teams this year. There are some that say it is because of them moving the line back , percentages are down shooting the three. you have many , many not so good three point shooting teams - having said that and it's been brought up , use to be in the olden days a fast break consisted of a three on two and fast break lay up. Now a breakout consist of a guy in front of the pack and kicking it back out for a guy spotting up for a three. - -whole different approach then used to be and there are quite a few times where they don't connect another reason scoring is down.. So you have that with offensively challenged teams. so when KU plays these guys, we can be fooled,
We can think dam we got a really good defense , when in reality is - -ARE we that good defensively or is it because these others are just BAD. - I think defensively we are just that good , can be stifling at times. I know we lead the big 12 in defense this season.
So I don't really think in some aspects the big 12 will hurt us ( KU ) as much in the tourney , as our defense and interior defense of Doke and rebounding can help us match with anyone.
I think in stead of quanity though I would much rather have it kind of what it's like this year. I like 2-3 - -maybe - - maybe 4 teams that could actually compete and be a serious challenge to a final 4. - -Push comes to shove I think in reality actually 2 - -Baylor & KU. - -West Virginia is really good but have long stretches of not being able to score. Texas Tech just isn't quite final 4 level this year I think.
Ku has to face really good defense in the league quite often which can only help having gone against really tight defense throughout the year, that has t0 benefit us. So I guess what I'm babbling about here is that I really don't think our league will hurt us as much as benefitting us because of the defense we face.
As a league overall agai I don't think we get hurt that bad. the teams kind of offset Good/Bad -we got some really really bad teams & we have some pretty dam good teams. I'm telling you Baylor is legit actually would kind of surprise me if they don't make the final four and while our bad teams are bad , even they have some good defensive teams

Chris Beard has put fringe recruits in the lottery and has taken Texas Tech to the Finals. I thought Lubbock was a bball wasteland when Knight was there. Not so. Beard's recruited talent, developed it and has his student body juiced for big games. He's a young basketball 46. Last year he beat Self by 29, 25 at halftime, easily handing Self his worst ever conference loss. Self himself was 40 when came here (?) and had made only 2 E8s.
Beard would be a grand slam hire, imo.

The reason I'm so big on Tony Bennett, he's finished the season ranked the past 6 seasons. This might be the first year he hasn't in the past 7. And 5 of those seasons he finished Top 6.
So he's won consistently through multiple recruiting classes and not just been a good team. He's had arguably one of the best 6 teams the past 7 consecutive years. And he's proven he can win the big one.
AND he's now proven he can win no matter where. He's done it at two P5 schools, neither of whom were a basketball powerhouse before he got there.
You can say Virginia basketball is boring, and I'd agree with you. But you can't say it doesn't win.
Still just would not want that here - -it's just to dam boring, kind of like watching the grass grow, and if he gets behind - - forget about it, his teams are just not designed enough to come from behind , causes them to get out of their comfort zone and becomes helter skelter - sorry I understand what you say -- just not for me
So now before I say this , don't get a wrong perception but what I'm going to say is and has NOTHING against Kobie at all far from it BUT more about ESPN.
So they moved the KU - Oklahoma State game to ESPN 2 - -yet they still show the N Carl/ NC State on ESPN -didn't move them, WHY NOT? - -maybe because it's the ACC ? - -are we for SURE our game is moved ? - -On my guide off Direct still shows KU on ESPN.- - just some thoughts

Doke should be eligible for a medical redshirt for his freshman or junior seasons of he chose so. He only played in 11 of KU's 36 games as a freshman and 9 of 36 games last season. I don't see it happening, but Doke should have the option should he choose to come back and further refine his game.

The New York Times reported this morning that the helicopter was granted a special waiver to fly even though foggy weather conditions were below usual standards. It went on to say:
According to audio records between the helicopter’s pilot and air traffic control at Burbank Airport, the helicopter was given what is known as Special Visual Flight Rules clearance, allowing the pilot and his passengers to continue on a foggy morning in Southern California.
Whether or not that was the right decision is likely to be at the center of the investigation into the cause of the crash.

Yeah when Doke was on the bench it created a big problem. The unexpected foul trouble just made it even worse.
I will say that this was kind of the perfect storm of situations. I don't know many teams that could prepare in 3-4 days to have guys guarding positions they normally don't. Enaruna & Agbaji were in tough spots especially. Pons of Tennessee is an athletic freak and is a tough matchup for anyone. It didn't look great without Doke on the floor he was a game changer on both ends. He's become one of the most important and impactful players in all of College Basketball. He's playing at an All American level
Boy , he sure is. Mercy Doke just looks so much better , since sliming down & toned - just really looks a lot more athletic. Moves his feet better. I don't remember him being that much of a rim protector before , gotta think he has to feel better also, better conditioned.
I'm a little worried about Enaruna , I'm sure it will work out. Yet even as raw as he was he looked better in the early going, now just looks totally lost, I'm sure it's in his head now - - typical freshman, then I'm sure he is also another over thinkin kid trying to hard and worried about getting yanked , probably overwhelming - it will come. He has talent we know that, showed early on had some really smooth drives to the hole, yet it even looks like he has lost what little bit of shot he had - -just takes time. Just will be good to get McCormack back. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
Well one thing came to light for sure with the suspensions on Saturday.
That is without Dave's availability when Doke is not on the floor, if we have to go an extended amount of time - - we are screwed.
Thank GOD we have only one more game and that is tonight. perfect example was Saturday as soon as Doke was out Tennessee took it inside and we had NO ANSWER none - - period. It became really evident there was zero resistence. Now I know that Mc Cormack is not some super stud and a scoring Machine , and I also know that he at this point is not a Doke by far on the defensive end.
However what Dave is , is another Big body that yes can get some rebounds and at least be a body - -a big body that makes it harder for the other team to Score. I mean when Doke was out Saturday it wasn't like there was a small leak in the Dam - -more like an all out breach. Will be glad to have McCormack for the fore mentioned reason. - Pretty obvious what happens without no Dave - - No Silvio , we have no answer. -- ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

@jayballer73 I don't think they've said. Eye witnesses said engine sputtering, flying low, hazy. Who knows, so much false info. Does sound like they hit the side of a mt, hard to get rescuers there. So very sad, I just can't fathom their pain.
um , um , um . I heard maybe foggy , guess that would make sense if flying low could possibly hit the side of mountain. - Just a tragic day in the sporting world. -Yet kind of puts things in perspective , loss of life and his little girl. Nothing more precious then the little ones.
Mercy among many , many others -- Jay Williams taking it really hard. Doc Rivers really hard. - -Saw them talking you know he had 4 precious girls and you could tell he was one PROUD DADDY
You could see and just feel his love for the game , kind of Crazy he gave LeBron his shoes when Lebron came on the scene
Just so may experiences Jay Williams talking about his one and only year in the NBA and Jay was talking about going through his training and seeing Kobie working out before him. - -He said he went through his workout and left and looked down and saw Kobie STILL doing his work out and thinking - -there is no way this guy is going to be ready for the game after going through this training session. - -He said he thought no way should I ask but I did. He said I asked Kobie man why you STILL training ? - - Kobie's response - - because there is NO WAY am I going to let you be better then me
So have the found the reason for what happened to the helicopter causing the crash yet ?
you know guys , might sound a little strange , I mean I personally didn't know Kobie from Joe Smoe - - never seen him in person once in my life. yet having said that but hurts a little bit , makes me kind of hurt, actually almost to some tears - - - kind of crazy huh , and I apologize but this guy was a basketball icon. I watch him grow through the game can remember when he came out of high school. One of the 1st I believe to by pas College for pro I believe - -just a sad - -sad day.
You can just tell the guy LOVED his Daughters - - he did love his daughters. - - and the things he did to try and help the ladies in the game of Basketball - so many people hurting - -sorry guys , jut a sad day for me - -just a big baby I guess but Kobie not hurting now Thank GOD for that - -he will be missed. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Was Gianna his oldest or second oldest?
I Think she was the oldest. - it's just insane cause just as late as of 10:30 last night he was sending out tweets about Lebron giving him congrads about passing him -- SAD , SAD , DAY
