@jayballer73 I don’t know. Sounds like a no brainer but some of these guys and their handlers have no brains. They see only the here and now, they don’t think long term. For some, maturing in college is a better development plan and can help pave the way to more longevity. For others of course, college is a waste of time. The problem, I think, sometimes, is the concept that it is a no brainer as long as you know you can just earn money playing. Do you want to be playing in Turkey, or the NBA, in 10 years?

Good for him if he can find a team. Too bad he didn't have his academics in order for KU to grab him at the time.

Kyree's only intentions are to get to the draft. KU is ok without that

Wait , is what your saying is that isn't the dream of any kid? - to live his dream of being able to someday play in the NBA? - -I hope that's not what your saying. - I bet you ask any young boy growing up and then and kid as they grow older when playing what their ultimate dream would be when playing Basketball is -It would be to be able to make the NBA dream come true - -not just Kyree - -if that is your line of thinking then KU would be ok without every player that stepped on the floor - -

Or maybe I should re-word this a little - let me say any kid that has the talent such as Kyree - what is their # 1 goal? - -it is to be able to fulfill their life long dream of being able to play in the NBA , can't really look bad at a kid for that - -it's a job just like for any other person - - making a living - -only he is getting to do what he loves for his job and be paid for it - Hell If I could of or would of had that type talent that would of been my only intentions too - - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Kyree - - is talking that he will enter College this Semester , he has been taking on-line classes - -- -and has talked I guess with Western Kentucky Coach.

All I know is we sure the hell could of used his 30.2 scoring or - - his 11 plus rebounding - -or his 6 assists a game - -averages. - -Kid has no position , pretty much plays the 1-4 - - and absolute animal and seemed like he really had an interest in KU - - dammit -- kid is a beast - - - Welp - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

@jayballer73 That is my problem friend, I did a little searching tonight to just to compare some numbers after Les Miles said our offensive line has played dominant football (obviously on of the most idiotic statements I’ve ever heard) and they just need to get settled in. I’ve come up with a simple question why hasn’t Klieman needed time for his players to settle in? KSU line returns 3 starters just like our but ours has much better size. I think it’s a fair argument that KU has not only as much talent as KSU but maybe even more, the best coach in there school history beat the worst coach (for now, bet Miles surpasses him) in our school history by 4 points last year. The last 10 years according to rivals is an even 5 to 5 in recruiting ranking, with the last 4 being an even 2 to 2. KU has more 4 guys on this team than KSU currently does. So Klieman can improve his team in the offseason and get his players ready to go but Miles can’t? I’d bet heavily on KSU winning 7 games this year minimum. A lot of people had both KU and KSU finishing 8th to 10th in this conference. They got the same 2 and 3 star guys we got, I believe they have a single 4 while we have 4. The simple answer is KSU and Klieman are IMPROVING their players, while are simply not doing the same. If the revolving door at coaching is really killing KU, why is it not KSU, they need an FCS team to miss a FG as time expired last season while our opponent hit it and won in OT. KSU wasnt good last year, hell they needed 2 bogus holding calls and Bender dropping the ball to beat us at home. Klieman is obviously the far superior coach at this point and Miles sucks.

lmao - - -to say Miles Sucks is just a litttttttttttttttle bit of a stretch - Coach Miles far from sucks - -but hey it's Friday you have your opinion that's awesome - everyone is entitled to theirs - I sure the hell after 2 games am not going to say Coach Sucks - -but I guess you could always go tell him he sucks at Coaching see what him and the staff have to say about it - - Good Luck. - - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

As head coach at Alabama, Nick Saban went 2-6 in the SEC his first season. Even great coaches struggle without adequate personnel.

Without a good QB, KU's playbook is severely limited. Miles and Koenning have never been guys who run a flashy offense so not having a QB who can complete a pass more than 5 yards down field is crippling the offense more than the OLine's struggles which to me are more because of Stanley being a bad decision maker on the field.

Les Miles won 10+ games 7 times in the SEC West and only had 1 losing SEC season in that time running the basic offense he's trying to put in place at KU. The man knows how to win football games and build programs. Les Miles laid the foundation for Mike Gundy at OSU.

KU currently does not have the roster personnel to run Miles offense the way he wants it run. David Beaty recruited for a spread offense and that's not what Miles and Koenning run.

It's going to take time to get those players in place and developed. It's not an overnight process and the 2020 recruiting class shows Miles wants to build it through the HS ranks which will slow down the process because those linemen need time to physically develop.

As far as Miles and his clock management, I said the day he was hired that anyone who watched Miles at LSU already knows that's never been a strength of his and never will be. It's frustrating, but anyone surprised by it clearly didn't know much about Miles beyond his record at LSU and what his strengths and weaknesses as a coach are. And yes, KU will lose some of the recruits currently committed because KU can't sign 26 players in December. The players who have committed to KU aren't surprised by KU dropping a game like CCU because they aren't stupid. They know KU has been a dumpster fire the last decade and yet they still chose to commit to Miles and attempt to rebuild KU.

Les Miles will make KU a better football program by the time he leaves here. It won't be an overnight process because it takes time to change offensive philosophies and bring in the correct personnel.

If anyone wants to accuse me of being biased about Miles and Koenning, damn right I am. Born in Louisiana and LSU was the first school I cheered for and one of the 3 schools I considered attending along with KU and Oklahoma. KU is the only football program I've seen play in person more than LSU and there is nothing in football like a Saturday night in Death Valley. As far as Les Koenning goes, his dad was my HS football coach and his son was HS teammate while Les Jr. was an assistant at A&M at the time.

Les Miles is the man for the job, just need to be patient and allow him to build the program because unlike basketball, it takes more than one recruiting class to revitalize a program.

that's great to hear - -and I get it 1000000000000000000000% -that is going to take time to get Coach's players - - can see he has the staff to get this turned around and believe it or not I know without your wisdom telling me it's going to take time or telling anyone else that it's going to take time

I have said repeatedly as for myself if you have followed what I said and that was we have NO QB - -having Said that I don't feel I'm stupid as you so put it - - and YES they should NEVER lose to a team like CC - - a program that has only been in it's existence for 16 yrs - -just pathetic play calling - -so who ever had their hand in that needs to wake the hell up Period and realize you can't be making some of these calls with the personel you've got - -Again - - NO QB.

I fully believe in Miles - -YES he will get this turned around - -and I'm not a guy that wants to run him out like others do already - -that sure the hell is not the answer - -we can't keep changing Coach's every time someone gets a burr up their ass - you have got to get some kin of Continuity - -you'll never have that with the past approach that this program has taken - Again why would ANY recruit want to come play for this train wreck and not knowing from one day to the next who the hell the Coach was going to be.

Another thing is if we don't get better play out of our defensive line then it's going to be another very long year - - teams will run at will against these guys if we can't stuff the run and quit giving up 4-5 per carry - -ya it's gonna take time but we sure the hell can't keep having performances like we did against CC

If we ever want to get better players to commit here then they want to see progress - -which in turn brings more fans in the seats - -which in turn brings a more exciting environment - -CC WAS NOT progress

@Woodrow just got through reading this before I came here. - -It's going to change the approach and recruiting some that's for sure. - -look at Kyree. Evan talking like maybe 5 more out of the top 50 might very well go this route.

Interestingly enough had just gotten off the Phog , and a poster made a pretty good point. - They were talking about how it seemed that Coach was focused in on a lot more of the 70-150 type of players this season - -Saying could be he is getting a leg up with this new rule coming in - -focused on the three four year player while others still going to try with the OAD'S and quite possibly getting burnt by exactly what this article is talking about - - OR the new rule the NBA sounds like going to be put into effect.

Another poster responded by saying " OH so we have just given up on winning ? " - -a response was and good point - - our years with these OAD 'S- haven't exactly been great - - Wiggins - Oubre - - - saying Coach Self has much better teams with experienced teams.

No, maybe not. Be patient. If you are really upset, perhaps the expectations are too high.

This is the right take. Mangino got worked by Bowling Green and UNLV his first year. Beaty and co. left the cupboard pretty bare. I’ll repeat what I’ve said in other threads. There’s just not that much talent.

That being said, the execution and playcalling wasn’t good. I do think it will improve as this staff figures out what they have. The defense is solid. I think Eliot is a keeper. We held them to under 300 yards and 5 yards per play. That’s pretty solid. I’m not sure what we have in MacVitte, but it seems like a good time to find out.

@jayballer73 I think it’s a couple things. Obviously all the federal case BS hurt. @BShark is right, we would’ve gotten commitments from Tucker and Precious if not for Penny acting like he’s Tark the Shark. Another is the blessing/curse of the 2018 class. The staff absolutely killed it that year. Fall commits from Dave, Silvio (who later moved to 2017), Dotson, and Grimes. That essentially built the core and blocked some 2019 guys from playing time. Another is Doke’s injury. If you’re a big, why would you come to Kansas if there’s a decent chance two top 40 upperclassmen are coming back? We’re kind of in that situation in 2020. It’s not a done deal Ochai and Silvio leave after this year. Dave will likely return. If you’re Mady, MSU and BYU look a lot better from a PT standpoint since he’s signing in November. Finally, the lack of NBA studs compared to other blue bloods hurts. Who’s KU’s best perimeter player in the NBA? Wiggins? Yiiiikes. All these in a vacuum may seem relatively minor, but added together they leave KU out in the cold for a lot of top players.

The ONE big thing you mentioned has hurt us ALOT - - - more then some think. - - I think this NCAA/FBI - -BS has hurt us more then some realize. - - I think this opposing Coach's are playing this to the hilt exp ( -WHY you wanna go to a school that is gonna get slammed by the NCAA) - now I'm not saying that's happening that we are getting slammed - -BUT these other schools are running with this like Banchi's and playing it up for all it's worth twisting it in the favor - - Sucks it's a cut throat game.

Yet like someone else mentioned - - MAYBE it IS time for a Shakeup with our Coaching staff - - MAYBE we do need some new blood? - -Aaron Miles maybe - -maybe Jarrod come back on Staff? - -I dunno but seems like something needs to change - -were kinda falling off, again even struggling getting the 35-70 range players to even visit.

Someone mentioned this could be a surprise year where we land players that John Q Public has not even heard a whisper of - -just un-settling. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

A fun bonus over/under is how many times will Texas Tech throw the ball this week? They threw it 55 times last week!! I'll put the number at 45, I'm picking under.

I'll say 50/under

Coastal Carolina Chanticleers • Sep 07, 2019 03:42 PM

Does anyone know what the spread is on the game?

Week 2 predictions: I like 35,000 fans, a few more than this past week without a holiday and with Pooka back. I like Kansas in a 31-13 victory. I think the offense will look better and more in rhythm with Pooka. I think the play calls were pretty vanilla last week and will be this week because our knows better than showing a ton to BC. I hope we are able to cut down on the turnovers.

gonna say right about 37,500 - -for this weekend - - and 34-17 - -Pooka gonna go over 100

That was a rough opener....

Although I don't know what they NFL expected. Love that rivalry, but that is a Sunday Night game. Not the electric start you're looking for to get the season going.

I Really wasn't surprised with Green Bays offense this game to be perfectly honest. - - Your going against one of the leagues toughest Defense in the league. - -I knew they would struggle, so really no surprise there Aaron or no Aaron.

!st year coach for the Pack - - First live action Aaron has had this year - - not 1 snap in the pre season - - -New Offense - -that will get better. - -BUT their defense matched Chicago down for down - both was very , very good. - -Out of Chicago 65 offensive plays - -they had THREE - - THREE

Right. I mean the game was intense. I just thought there were better matchups to open the season. Steelers and Pats. Saints and Texans. Panthers and Rams.

Just so that we'd see some scoring and some big plays.

the biggest reason I think was last year it had to do with GB 100th season or something along this line and this year it was Chicago's 100 th - -it's going to be interesting - -don't worry once Aaron gets this new offense figured out - oh they gonna score more - -only thing is , looks like it has a defense to go along with it - -1st since 2010

Ok let's hear the theories - -the educated guesses - -the hunch - -personal opinions - -WHY ? - -why is recruiting seem to be such a struggle these last couple of years.

Not that long ago we were right there head to head battling with the elites - -Duke - - Kentucky -N Carolina's - -for top flight players

Now looks like it is trending that even Oklahoma St - -Memphis - and just about any other Joe Blow school is beating us out for guys. -- Soooo what the hell happened? - -John Q Public wants to know. - -Has Bill lost his luster/edge - - - is his staff getting stale? - -have they lost the fire in their gut? -There is something that just doesn't seem right. - -I mean NOW were even having trouble getting the 40-5o type ranked players in interest - -Are we focusing on the wrong guys? - - let's hear from others - -tell me whats going on - -what's the reasoning as to why this is happening - -it's looking like we have definitely lost or advantage over the Big 12 , Others are gaining ground - -Texas Tech - - hell Baylor has gotten better - - Thank GOD Shaka can't Coach worth a tinkers dam - -somehow he is still getting talent to go there - - WHY? - -who the frick knows. - - Somebody enlighten me on what the hell has happened - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Ryan over on the phog had a grim view of 2020 recruiting so far. Hearing crickets on what the staff feels confident in or even has a shot with.
It could be all about nothing or spot on.

Very weird that Mady didn't even follow through on his visit.

All the recent blurbs on Caleb Love are pro UNC.

Bryce Thompson isn't ending his recruitment anytime soon.

I would be very disappointed if we are in the spring with no commits.

KU recruited at a very high level for a very long time under Self. There's no question KU has been impacted by the FBI trials and this is the continued fall out. UNC went back to recruiting and landing the Cole Anthony & the Joel Berry's of the world as soon as the NCAA cleared them in the academic scandal. I fear KU won't be back to that level until the NCAA does or doesn't drop the hammer.

I'm not advocating for this but at some point Self may have to shake up his staff. He's been extremely fortunate to have Norm & T but very few elite programs keep the same staffs these days for extended periods of time. Fresh blood may make a difference as well. Again not saying it should happen but its an option the man in charge can make if he felt recruiting misses were a result of that

CB'S now rolling in for JT Thor to Okla State - - look out. - -if they land Cunningham & Thor -those to by themselves is a very solid class - - then if they top it off somehow by managing to get a commit out of Bryce - -which both Okla Schools are in on him really heavy - -IF they land him - - holy crap = =Okie State becomes an instant threat.

5 QB sacks - -11 QB hits - -only 245 total yds for Chicago. - -Aaron and the offensive side will get better - -like Aaron said after the game - -Chicago defense gonna give ALOT of teams problems in the league - pretty dam stiff - -but like Aaron said - -WE got a defense
