@stoptheflop I think we have a solid schedule next year for sure. I would think we can go 2-1. I dont think we can win at BC but I will have to see us and them play a few times before I can make a better assessment. I'm just hoping to get over the 3 win hump next season. I think 4 wins would be huge, the most we've had since MM. Miles being able to tell recruits we've had the best season here in a decade in season #1.

I hate how the word privilege gets thrown around nowadays. I'm considered privileged because of my skin color tho both my parents have been married and divorced 3 times. I've thrown all I could fit into a Walmart sack in the middle of night to leave as child more than I ever care to discuss. I've been abandoned, beaten and everything in between at multiple points in my life. But none of that counts, I'm white. My 3 year old son has autism, we met with the state last week to see what assistance we can apply for. There is an 8 year waiting list once he turns 5. But if we were Hispanic we would have assistance right now from what the lady told us. I dont like talking about privilege....
Tony Bennett gets over the hump like Bill did in 2008. Bennett wouldn't be my first choice but if you want a similar coach to Self. He is the best bet IMO, both are excellent regular season guys that haven't always performed well in the tournament. I think Bennett has embraced a little bit of offense this season and its paying off.
Texas Tech had better lock down Beard for some big money if they want to keep him. Congratulations to him and Tech for their first FF. Tony Bennett finally gets over the hump to go to the FF. I think they can beat Dook if they both make it that far, tho they lost twice to them this season.
@dylans not really, MSU and Dook play to see who goes to the Final Four, Auburn plays UK to see who goes to the final four. Only 2 champions Classic teams can make it. Not really surprising, 4 great programs. KU was the only one in the FF last season from the group.

@Fightsongwriter very true, I watch a fair amount of local high school games and a crap load college games. Getting kids to play hard is becoming more and more difficult and it's easy to see. When I was in high school, if coach didnt think we went hard we ran suicides after the game til we could barely stand. Cant do stuff like that nowadays, just gotta get the few kids that want to compete and win.
@Texas-Hawk-10 100% agree buddy, Zion is a lot like Josh Jackson was here (Zion is better tho). Its hard to get kids to hustle nowadays unfortunately but both those guys did or do, which is uncharacteristic for OADs. I used to be a ESPN 24/7 guy. I woke up and watched sports center every morning, watched just about every 30 for 30. But I grew tired of them being political and firing people that had differing opinions than them. I also got fed up with the constant ACC/SEC and Lebron coverage like no one else existed in the sports world.
Like I've said the past several years with Dook and UK, If they don't win it I laugh. Dook gets ten times the media coverage as any other program, even if they lose in the first like they did in 2012 and 2014. Them and UK get the best players nearly every single year. They are the Yankees of CBB, buy the best players and still screw it up 90% of the time.
@BShark Auburn worried me from the get go, I said they could've been a 3 seed after smoking thru the SEC tournament. People laughed at me. I think they have a great shot to beat UK. I think folks forget this Auburn team was ranked 13th in the last AP poll and hoovering around 10th in Kenpom. They are hot at the right time.
@BeddieKU23 Yep Go Hokies, I realize they just beat Dook a month ago with out Zion. But I'm going to bet Dook spanks the daylights outta them especially after losing to them and almost losing to UCF. They will be focused and on their game, will be a cruise.
With ESPN hype machine you wouldn't think anyone played last night or anyone but Dook is playing tonight.

I think this great idea, breathe a little bit of life back into the game. I've always hated how boring it has been and the score has been like 13-10 since MM. Give the fans a show and have fun.
@approxinfinity Gosh those 96 and 97 teams had a ton of talent. I've always said that Self has had the talent for at least 2 more titles but Roy also should've had at least 2. But in the same sense, UK, Dook and UNC could probably say the same they just have more already and a chance to add to it this year.
Gonzaga beats FSU, Tech over Michigan (surprisingly to me), Virginia over Oregon and Purdue with a surprise win in OT vs Tennessee which lost the game at the FT line. Thinking about how boring a Virginia vs Tech title game would be lol the teams may not break 80 points combined.
It was a down year, I'm not sure we ever really peaked this season. But we had to revamp the offense 3 times due to missing personnel, we will back next year to reclaim our order as Kings of the B12.
@approxinfinity We have to take the guys with personalities because they are the only talented guys left. UCF competed with Dook in one game, dook smokes them 9 of 10 times. UCF hasn't made the dance since 05 before this season and I bet they don't again for a several years after next season when most of these guys are gone. The little teams have been better recently because guys stay 4 years and can be groomed for a good junior and senior season.
@BigBad I think Dedric could make a good living over seas for sure, but I agree it will be tough for him to make in the NBA. I hope for him that he is drafted and at least gets a chance to live his dream. I'm not sure if Grimes has the athletic ability to play in the NBA, he has to fine his stroke from distance to get much of a look IMO. Dotson will get drafted in a few years, he's ahead of when Jacque, Frank and Aaron Miles were during their freshman seasons IMO. Which says a lot about what he could be in the near future. Ochai is prob a lottery a pick in a couple of years IMO. He did pretty darn good for a recruit ranked in the 130s and being thrown into the mix mid season. I'd bet he leads us in 3 point percentage and scoring next season. We've heard both Self and Fran talk about how he is the most athletic guy on the team, give the fella a year or two and he'll be damn good.
Doke isn't on any draft boards that I've seen and really doesn't fit the mold of a Center in the league nowadays but he also could make a good living over seas and I wouldn't blame him if he left to try it out. He's been injured for over half of his time in a Kansas uniform and it tough for me to believe he could be healthy for a full season here. SDS is probably leaves if his suspension isn't lessened, I could see him trying to wait it out if they say he can next season or the second semester next year.
I do agree with your assessment of guys wishing they would've stayed. Think of how much better we could've been this season if we had Newman's shooting and he's just bouncing around the G league now. I get guys like Selby leaving because their family was poor and needed whatever he could get but the guys like Henry, Newman, Wright and a few probably wish'd they'd stayed at this point. Sometimes I wish these kids would look at some of guys before them's mistakes. I have no problem with a guy that is projected in round 1 going, they are gaunteed a contract for 3 years while undrafted and second rounders are not.
I'm not sure I will watch a ton going forward but I don't want UNC to win another. I like ole Roy and always will, hard to not cheer for him a little bit with how long he was here. But I'm hoping either Tech or Gonzaga can pull it off from this point forward, tho I'm thinking UNC and Dook are the best 2 teams right now.
I think a lot of KJ's decision side on if Self wants him back at this point. KJ will be able to graduate this semester according to Matt Tate and he is getting married this summer. So he may just decide to be done with basketball or if Chuck and Grimes move on, and Self doesn't land a couple other guys. I could see a scenario that he says but you never know what he has planned going forward. KJ isn't a great player but I always thought he played hard and I do appreciate that from him.

I honestly wish we'd gotten the 4 seed in the South and switched with KSU. I'd like our chance against an Oregon and Virginia team to go further than we did. Auburn had a case for a 4 seed IMO with the way they finished the season in spanking Tennessee.
That's always been a problem at Kansas. We can't recruit like the Dooks, UNCs and UKs on a consistent basis. We do pretty good with what we have most years, a guy has to wonder if those guys just pay better at this point. The media coverage of them constantly doesn't help. I remember after we beat Dook last season the next day on ESPN coach K was front and center about how he was beating Cal at his own game on the CBB page just like it was a Dook affiliated news outlet. This year after the sweet 16 Zion is of course front and center. It doesn't matter what they do, they are media darlings.
We really need another guard and big for next years class because it's all but that certain than a few guys will leave. The next month on the trail and the what the NCAA releases next month will be huge on if that happens.

One thing I've noticed the last couple of years when our defense has been below average after watching Tech, Virginia and other good defensive teams, they get out on people and are in there faces from the get go. We sag of off people so much and make it easy for them to shoot over us or get a running start toward the hoop. I'm not sure if these guys just aren't good athletes compared to D1 guys (which is the case with Dedric) or what but Self need to rethink his defense this off season.
The more I think about this year, the more believe we just never meshed as a team. We never figured out who was the leader, we didn't have a BIFM or DG to get on guys like the last few years and it showed. We ended up with a really pieced together unit, some of which may have been self inflicted others not. I was plenty hard on our guys at times this season but I think they need it after some of our games to be honest. I feel like we could be solid next season if the right core of players return or we could be a fairly similar team to this season if not. If Doke and both the Lawson boys go, we will be super young once again. I'm still pretty excited for what this team could be in 2021 heading hopefully back to Wichita for the first 2 rounds. A good core of Dot, Garrett, Ochai and Dave. I'm ok if this is a down season, just wished it would've end a little better.
I've got a $120 set of Wilson's in my garage that have been used all of 4 times I believe. I did get one birdie out of them which is nothing short of a miracle in itself, I believe I've played golf about 8 in my life and I stink lol.
I'm not gonna take the time to look it up but I'm not sure I've ever seen the top 3 seeds from each region in the sweet 16. There is only only seed higher than a 5 left in Oregon's 12 seed. The East and the West are straight up with 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3 match ups, and the Midwest is 1 vs 5 and 2 vs 3. If a guy went straight up off of seeds this year, he's prob kick but in his office pool. Maybe the NET is a good rating system and the seeds are just more accurate (hard to say after 1 year of it). The average of seeds added up in the final four is usually 11 or 12, this year could be a repeat of 2008 and see all #1 seeds make it. Which I doubt and that tournament had its upsets like Davidson to the E8. At this point I think UCI over KSU is prob the biggest upset of the year.

UCF still had their chances with that missed lob. But if KU gets thoses calls, it's all over ESPNs and several sports front page. Because its Dook no one will bat an eye.

I would bet the Farm Mcbride is better than KJ and Chuck right outta the gates. They both had 2 good games and were smoked repeatedly on defense all while being turnover machines the rest.
I just want 5 guys that hustle and give a flying F about the team. I think we only had 3 maybe 4 of those guys this year and that was at times. Even Mitch didn't put a hand up twice on 3s when he talked about that yesterday.
I honestly feel bad for Dedric and the guys that care but you have to care during the game fellas. You have to go hard every minute in this tournament to win most games. Anyone that has any direct knowledge of this saw him take at least 15 possessions off on defense, that's not a way to win in this tournament. I just rewatched the first half, why I don't know. But I couldn't count how many times we had 2 or 3 guys lazily walking up the court that lead to their 26 fast break points in that half or how many times we were closer to a rebound and lightly jogged or walked towards it while they sprinted and got it, then made a shot. We really played about average on offense the key stats to me are their 30 whatever fast break points and our 16 TOs. Maybe Self should use this game as an example going forward to guys of how not to play. I stand behind my statement from earlier, if we just hustled in the that half we would've had a chance. Best of luck to the Jayhawks that don't return in the future career, I'm pretty frustrated with several of them but thanks for another 25+ win season.
