Me and an ole buddy were chatting after today's loss, both being KU fans that we remember since the mid 90s ( I was born in 1988). So we went back and looked up a few numbers, the worst KU coaches in history. Charlie Weis, Turner Gill, Bob Valesente and David Beaty (not counting Bowens 8 interim games). All of those coaches averaged at least 2 wins a year beside Beaty ( Beaty sill has 9 games but I'd bet the farm he doesn't get 3 more wins this year to average 2) who sits at the worst win percentage.125 and the least amount of wins for a coach tenured more than a single season at 3-24 assuming he doesn't win more than 1 more game. If he can't win a minimum of 2 more games it's the worst 3 year stretch in school history. In my life time Mason averaged 5 wins a year, Allen 4 wins, Mangino 6 and Gill, Weis 2. Wins are obviously big but idk that we even compete the rest of the year. In Turner Gill's final year we won 2 and had 2 single digit losses. In Weis's final 4 games we went 2-2, won another game later and had 2 single digit losses. My problem is if we can't keep it close with MAC schools how can we with B12 schools. Gill's last defense let up over 60 points 3 times and over 40 7 times. I look for much of the same to end this season, push coming to shove I'm saying we are the least competitive we have ever been in year three of the Beaty era. Mangino won 2 games his first year then 6 the next, Allen even improved from 4 wins to 5 and Mason from 1 to 4. We aren't competitive and aren't improving how can Beaty stay? Yes I know he inherited a mess but we have juniors and seniors making freshmen mistakes. Guys like Mason, Mangino and Snyder developed players. Beaty doesn't know how.

@Texas-Hawk-10 EWU lost at home 40-13 to NDSU they maybe a FCS playoff team but nothing more.

Ohio Bobcats • Sep 16, 2017 07:25 PM

KU played decently well offensively, had more yards and first downs than Ohio. A couple of 7 plus minute touchdown drives for Ohio when KU had them stopped if not for penalties. I have no idea how in gods name Bowen could keep his job after today. I can see progress on offense, Bender has now had 3 straight 340 plus yard games. He had a bad day last week but really today I'm ok with all but about 4 of his throws today and he had 6 drops passes and held on to the ball too long a few times but all in he's the best we've had statistically since Ressing by a very very very long ways. No other QB has had a three game stretch with more TDs than INTs or anywhere near 1000 yards.

Ohio Bobcats • Sep 16, 2017 07:02 PM

You know the offense hasn't been terrible, if only we had last years secondary. We didn't score over 21 points last year in regulation against FBS. If we had a D1 defense we would be in this game same as well as last week, most power 5 teams won't let up more than 20 to a MAC club.

Ohio Bobcats • Sep 16, 2017 06:12 PM

Bender for the secod week in a row is apparently too stupid to realize you can't hold the ball for 5 seconds

Ohio Bobcats • Sep 16, 2017 05:37 PM

Ohio 25 Kansas 14 at the half. Kansas has had their chances to be in the game a very costly face mask on a stopped third down lead to an easy touchdown with a first and goal from the 2 for Ohio and a shanked punt didn't help. The offense has looked decent at times with 206 yards and no turnovers. The defense has just been a joke, for us to have a chance multiple turnovers this half.

Ohio Bobcats • Sep 16, 2017 05:13 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 they need to be a ton better then. I'm just saying they suck and lose their coach after not getting to a bowl again. Obviously after today hard to believe KU can win anymore games this year, maybe again with Beaty here.

Ohio Bobcats • Sep 16, 2017 05:06 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 okay maybe 2 but still they suck they have sucked since Kliff has been there. I don't see a team losing a top 10 draft pick and improving like crazy.

Ohio Bobcats • Sep 16, 2017 04:59 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 we'll see I reckon I honestly see them only beating KU in b12 play.

Ohio Bobcats • Sep 16, 2017 04:44 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 well none at this point lol but Tech still sucks and only wins 4 games most likely and has a new coach next year. Ohios QB is from fort Scott community college and is better than any we have had since Ressing. The dude can run and throw , Beaty can not judge talent what so ever.

Ohio Bobcats • Sep 16, 2017 04:32 PM

Ohio takes an early lead 11 to zip after KU misses open field tackles left and right. They even easily got a 2 point conversion. Bowen should be gone this week we most likely will give up 45 plus again to a MAC club.

Ohio Bobcats • Sep 16, 2017 04:15 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 still not sold on techs defense especially after a single game against a lower level team.

Ohio Bobcats • Sep 15, 2017 06:32 PM

@Kcmatt7 excalty we can hang with Baylor and Tech for the same reasons, I think a good chunk of the offensive problems are fixable. Defensively I'm worried we could compare to the 60 point average that got Turner Gill fired. OU and OSU could put 80 on us.

Montell Cozart • Sep 15, 2017 05:00 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 Announcers said that's what he said.

Montell Cozart • Sep 15, 2017 04:59 PM

@Kcmatt7 we did win against that level of competition, New Mexico is a 3 or 4 win team buddy probably less with their third string QB. Boise State without question has a better team than Kansas. Cozart beat WVU, SEMO, CMU and Rhode Island here. Cozart also blew a 3 touchdown lead against a real team in Washington State with one of the stupidest pick 6s I've ever seen and a costly fumble. He's still the same Cozart.

Montell Cozart • Sep 15, 2017 04:28 PM

I watched the game last night and really wasn't impressed, look like the same Cozart. I'd say he ran the ball a little bit more but his 28 yard TD had no one in front of him. Most of his completions were only a few yards, when he threw the ball more than 10 yards he was way off and had a couple of dropped picks. He had several high completions games here that had him only averaging 6 or 7 yards per attempt. He did also get the ball inside the opposing teams 40 yard line multiple times, don't believe he ever drove the length of the field and New Mexico isn't a great team and was down to their 3rd string QB. I'm not ready to hand him anything yet, Good that he is doing well although I did get a little disappointed in his comments about how KU sucked and he just wanted to be a winner. Which I agree with but he lost us a few games himself.

Ohio Bobcats • Sep 14, 2017 09:44 PM

Kansas takes the historically the 3rd worse show in the NCAA on the road this week to Athens, Ohio. The current losing streak on the road sits at 41 and the most is 44 so obviously we have 3 chances to end it. It will be interesting to me to see what Ohio does offensively. They are known more as a running, control the clock type of team and they did just that a year ago. Last year the offense completely whiffed in the first half with only a single first down and 21 total yards. The defense really didn't play horrible considering the short field they were left with time and time again with turnovers. This year Ohio is very youthful on the offensive line, they only return 4 guys total on the that side of the ball. They are lead by QB Rourke who like Windam did last year can and will run all over the place if you allow it. For some reason since the orange bowl team running QBs have killed us to put it nicely. They do return their best WRs in White and Odom, which if you missed last week is scary. Offensively I like our chances, I thought people were way too hard on Bender. The dude can't catch his passes or block for himself and he hung in there last week, getting smacked several times. His numbers were hardly the worst we have seen hell Cozart and Willis each had a five turnover game a year ago. It's literally his 3rd start at this level, he played sparingly at WSU let's give him a little bit of lead way. The key is the same as every football game control the line of scrimmage and limit turnovers. We have to get turnovers , we won't win any more games being in the minus of that category. I really like our chances but it's on the road and last week made me really question if Beaty is the guy and how long he will be here past this year. It really is a must win for fan support. Both the SEMO and CMU featured the biggest crowds in a few years so people actually brought into the team improvement. I'll go Ohio wins 38-31, Kansas keeps it close but can't quite finish the deal.

So... who gets fired first? • Sep 13, 2017 02:31 AM

Let's meet our contestants for another episode of who gets fired first from Kansas football. First up is athletics director Sheahon Zenger. Zenger has been at Kansas since 2011 and has made some foolish decisions regarding the football program and really hasnt done a whole lot of for the university outside of Rock Chalk Park. Next up is head coach David Beaty who in his in third season still can't seem to build any momentum after apparently a fluke win vs Texas, he can recruit but he can't develop players. Our final contestant is a KU guy threw and threw but as worn out his welcome Clint Bowen! Clints defense hasn't seemed to really improve much overall, hell he took the one of the b12s best defenses in 07 with 8 returning starters to one of the worst in 08, if you look up the numbers he really has stank up the place. My vote is Bowen he has been given too many chances, yes our pass defense was good last year but how much of it was our run d was bad people just ran it more? Overall defense has been in the 100s just about every year he's been here. He has to be demoted of fired at seasons end or story.

Prediction standings and overview of b12 • Sep 11, 2017 10:20 PM

@Kcmatt7 Ya think KSU is too high at 18 personally, but will find a lot about them as they play Vandy on the road this week. TCU has some playmakers this year and West Virginia is a team that will prob be ranked in the next few weeks.

Prediction standings and overview of b12 • Sep 11, 2017 07:33 PM

@mayjay lol I was curious what you'd say

Prediction standings and overview of b12 • Sep 11, 2017 06:25 PM

@stoptheflop I used to be that way but the arrogance of KSU fans caused me to not root for them. I don't always root against them, in fact most of the time I don't care. But I get tired of hearing how great a program is that has won a mere 3 conference titles since world war 1. KSU is a solid program nothing more. I was cheering for ISU they had it showing on the hill behind memorial before our game. I'm surprised the attendance was only 28,531 it looked like it was 3/4s full, the westside was packed besides the front few rows. There also were several hundreds on the hill in lawn chairs.

Prediction standings and overview of b12 • Sep 11, 2017 05:35 PM

Let's all welcome back the big 12 to the national spot light in football! Oklahoma had a huge win in a top 5 match up breathing life into the conference. OSU, Texas and KSU all won against teams ranked in 115th or worst in FPI going into this weekend (CMU was in the mid 90s, Ohio in 80s, maybe we should schedule a little lighter to help get a few wins but it's still early for rankings). WVU got a win and TCU had a solid road win vs the SEC. ISU flat out gave away the game to Iowa and looks much improved. The talk of the conference has got to be the Baylor Bears and wow do they look terrible, I mean KU terrible( we have already discussed the KU disappointment). USTA is comparable to CMU but I'll bet they end up worse and are playing in the weaker conference. They very easily could be winless in what I'm already calling the toilet bowl vs KU on November 4th. They play @duke, OU, @ksu, @osu, WVU and Texas before coming here and I highly doubt they can win more than 1 of these games if that. Texas Tech was idle this week. Anyway here are the prediction standings:

@Texas-Hawk-10 leads 14-5 overall, 7-2 this week.

@stoptheflop and me @kjayhawks are 2nd @ 13-6 overall, 6-3 this week

@jayballer54 is third with only this week @ 7-2

@Kcmatt7 is fourth with only this week @ 6-3

@justanotherfan is tied with @BShark for fifth with only this week @ 4-5

@DoubleDD picked the OU win, his only game is @ 1-0

@mayjay picked for KU and CMU to be close in his only pick, not case sorry buddy @ 0-1

Relax, it's week 2 • Sep 11, 2017 03:34 PM

All I can say is what the hell was Saban thinking recruiting Baldwin and Charlot. The right side of the o line is super weak and was beaten time and time again Saturday but Baldwin can't even play? I think the troubles we had on offense maybe corrected to an extent and we didn't have our best WR Sims definitely hurt. I actually like our newest RBs and think they will be good. The biggest issue I have is watching MAC receivers out run our secondary time after time. We lost our speed on defense that we had last year. That cannot be fixed, you're ether fast enough or not. This coaching staff has failed at a judgement of talent especially on the defensive side of the ball. We should've moved some offensive players to defense, Taylor Martin is the fastest guy on the team but can't produce at RB, move him to safety. Tyler Patrick is a WR sitting on the bench, he out ran the OU secondary a few years ago for a touchdown, move him to CB. Stuff like that should've been done in the spring time. I'm really starting to question the ability of this staff, the next question is does Beaty get fired if we don't win another game this year? Does anyone show up to the rest of the home games?

KU vb • Sep 10, 2017 09:52 PM

Gosh my bad luck, ku football is now 0-8 with me in the stands and I tried to get VB tickets but it was sold out. It was pretty disappointing really, I mean the team that knocked you out of the tournament and you get run outta your own building? Better pick it up,if you want to complete for back to back B12s.

Relax, it's week 2 • Sep 10, 2017 09:48 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 @stoptheflop The game really turned when Bender threw that pick with a minute to go in the first half. But it wasn't his fault Quan had two hands on it and in his chest til the DB took it from him like a little kid which it was freshman vs senior there so not that surprising. But we would've had first and 9 @ the 9 down 17-6 with a chance to be down just 4 points at the half. The defense was good for the first 25 minutes heck the people in stands were thinking we was just a few plays from breaking the game open. Personally I think it's wise to stick with Bender for at least one more game. I question wether Stanley is actually injured anyway, he was suited up and warmed up at half so we thought he was going in to be honest. We lost for several reasons yesterday and most of them were on defense, letting up 45 points from 5 minutes in the second to 6 minutes left in the game, less than a half will not win you jack. Stanley's numbers actually mirror Benders, we have to catch the ball as well, we had at least 5 drops. One of which was a screen pass with no one with in 10 yards and probably a touchdown.

Relax, it's week 2 • Sep 10, 2017 01:49 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 exactly what I said at halftime, why not send heat? Ether way they are moving it too easy. I hate to say it about a hometown kid but Tornadan (spelled wrong) is not a D1 player or even close to it.

Relax, it's week 2 • Sep 10, 2017 01:29 PM

@jayballer54 yes our defensive line was a joke and gave Morris all sorts of time but they did return all their guys up front and I'm betting a few of them are playing on Sundays next year. We lost this one as a team, so many errors on both sides. @Crimsonorblue22 didnt get the seat backs, I did like my seats and the place was mostly full and loud early in the game. Armstrong has been a huge disappointment thus far, he missed a wide open sack Saturday. I don't believe in coaching changes mid year but Bowen should be demoted going in to next year. Beaty will be our coach in 2018, moving forward after that I'm not so sure.

Relax, it's week 2 • Sep 10, 2017 03:00 AM

Before we getting going on Saturdays game let me say Central Michigan is better than I thought. They did return 16 starters from a team that beat OK state a year ago. That being said they weren't 20 better than us. We beat ourselves today. Defensively our secondary was outta position often, we missed open field tackles repeatedly and had silly penalties keep their stopped drives going. We literally handed them 17 points on defense. The offense was terrible in the first half. They got better as the game wore on but dropped balls, once again penalties and turnovers. People in the stands were calling for Stanley but I strongly disagree, Bender had some crappy throws but one of his picks was ripped outta the WRs hands and he became the first back to back 300 yard passer since Ressing no reason to bench him this quick. He stood in the pocket and took several hits and our guys had too many drops. Steven Sims JR didn't play a snap on offense, he fair caught two punts early. Anyone know what's with that? Quan Hampton and Schadler need more touches for sure. My player of the game was right I'd say, Dom Williams didn't quite get the 80 yards I predicted but he did get 64 and the 2 touchdowns. We have a lot to work on no doubt and a bowl game probably just went out the door but our problems are fixable. It week 2 with a new OC, QB and most of the secondary. OSU didn't quit last year I don't think we should ether. I still say 3 wins is doable.

Central Michigan • Sep 07, 2017 09:15 PM

@Kcmatt7 this is the same team that beat okie state a year ago so we can't over look them. But yes based on where we are currently and to keep moving forward, I feel it's a must win. If we can pull it off it will be our first 2-0 start since 2011 and 3 wins in a 4 game stretch since Mangino was on the sidelines.

Central Michigan • Sep 07, 2017 01:14 AM

Kansas stays at home in week 2 to battle CMU of the MAC conference. The Chippewas last visited Lawrence in 2014 and lost 24-10 as Tony Pierson took the first play from scrimmage 70 plus yards to the house, not a ton players from ether team are still around from that game. CMU outlasted Rhode Island last Thursday in a triple overtime thrilller (30-27).RIU threw 6 ints and missed a chip shot fg for the win in the second ot after a CMU fumble. Offensively they are supposed to be sound as they return all starters across the line and 1,000 receiver Corey Willis. 4 year starter at QB Cooper Rush has graduated leaving Michigan transfer Shane Morris to run the show. I was able to watch most of their first game and wasn't impressed, Morris has a strong arm but barely completed 50% of his passes. They also have a running backing that's solid in Spaulding and a 6'7 QB in Poljan that can run effectively. It wil be interesting to see if we can get the run game going against a young defensive line and linebacker group, their strengths are in the safeties on D. I think the key for us to win is having a fast start and winning the turnover battle. Both teams left a lot on field in week one and CMU played Thursday so they have a jump on Kansas in prep. I think which ever team can make the biggest jump from week 1 to 2 wins the game. I'm going with Kansas 31-20, my player of the game is Dom Williams I think he gets a 80 yard game and 2 tds. I'm excited to say I'll be there in person Saturday!

Prediction time • Sep 06, 2017 04:12 PM

@dylans I honestly think the b12 gets left out of th CFP again. I think OU loses Saturday, then I think they win out and lose to OKie state in title game and everyone has 2 loses in this conference.

Defensive Player of the week is... • Sep 06, 2017 12:17 AM

Joe Dineen has been named player of the week in the b12 conference. Joe lead Kansas defensively with 15 tackles, 11 solo and 2.5 TFLs.

Prediction time • Sep 05, 2017 09:39 PM

@JayHawkFanToo @justanotherfan The SEC has had a losing bowl record for the past 3 straight seasons. They have Alabama and that's it anymore, the ACC is the best conference in football and basketball right now.

Prediction standings • Sep 05, 2017 09:30 PM

My picks for week 2:

Ohio state 35, Oklahoma 24

Okie state 56, South Alabama 13

TCU 38, Arkansas 31

West Virginia 42, East Carolina 24

Texas 55, San Jose State 24

KSU 56, Charlotte 13 (prob the weakest FBS team, Snyders usual sos).

Baylor 45, USTA 13

Iowa 45, Iowa State 17

You will have to read my breakdown vs CMU to get my pick.

Prediction standings • Sep 05, 2017 03:29 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10 i would agree for the most part but Texas hasn't had a recruiting class worse than top 20 in years, Oklahoma is much of the same according to rivals, they also both have top 5 classes going into this year. I think the SEC has gotten bigger in the recruiting game in Texas but Oklahoma hasn't suffered like the longhorns, they have won major bowls as recent as last year and made the CFP as you said. I just think they are a one man band like KU is for the conference in BB.I'd say 95% of Texas's trouble is coaching.

Prediction standings • Sep 05, 2017 02:33 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10 @stoptheflop and myself predicted the big 12 games and we all ended up with a 7-3 record (anyone is welcome to join). Most of the games were blow outs against inferior teams (7 20 plus point wins). Baylor lost to Liberty, as Turner Gill, Turner Gilled Matt Rhule in his debut as Baylor coach. We all knew Baylor was a question mark going into this year but wow they still had enough rollover talent from last year (10 returning starters) to beat Liberty. West Virgina lost to VIrginia Tech in a good game 24-17. I watched most of this game and figured it was a 50/50 game to start with, WVU had their chances and moved the ball just didn't finish drives. Maryland was able to steal the show in Austin over Texas. Texas picked up right where they left off in 2016. I realize Maryland is a power conference team but most have them in bottom half of the b10 that coupled with Texas's Top 5 recruiting class and 15 returning starters was a surprise, they looked completely lost to me. The big 12 is shaping up to be the worst power 5 conference again this year, after being the only power 5 conference a year ago to post a losing record (6-8) against other teams from the power 5. 10 of such games happen this year and with an 0-2 record already and 5 of the 8 left road games, I don't look for it to get any better. I know OU made the playoff once but man it just seems the conference sucks these days compared to the 90s thru the early 20 teens. I predicted this conference wouldn't be here by 2022 after not adding football teams. If the conference can't pick it up, I highly doubt it lasts that long.

What a weekend in Lawrence • Sep 04, 2017 08:17 PM

Big weekend for Kansas athletics as the football team won Saturday over SEMO and inducted Tailb and Collins in to the ring of honor. Then the Kansas soccer team upset the 7th ranked and defending National champs USC. The wins didnt stop there as the Kansas volleyball team continued its hot start by beating the 13th ranked Mildcats of Kentucky. ROCK CHALK my friends.
