WE ARE A BETTER TEAM WITH SVI. • May 22, 2017 11:42 PM

@wrwlumpy Lets start making Jevon Carter is old jokes. Seems like that dude had been there fro 40 years and he looks older than me. Jevon Carter is so old his social security number is 30.

Sad news... • May 21, 2017 05:56 PM

Unbelievably sad, I'm lucky to say my mom is still in remission. Cancer is one of the scariest words to me. Holly has been covering KU on ESPN for several years now and it makes us all feel like we know her. Prayers to her and her family!

@Kcmatt7 @JayHawkFanToo You both make some really good points, but I just cant wrap my mind around not going to Nike over 1.5 million, which is nothing to how much the BB program makes, if it meant we could get better players and have better chances of a NC. I personally think like both Nike and Adidas products, but Nike is just a bigger deal.

Coleby Transfers • May 19, 2017 02:04 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 Didnt see the Justion news, I thought that ship sailed but I don't think Self will sit on a scholarship ether. My bet would be that Svi returns at this point. I'm excited about Whitman, Kevin Young was from a smaller school and was a big part of the 12 FF team and Tarik Black was a really good grad transfer for us ( he would've looked a ton better had Joel been healthy).

Who are the blue blood teams to you? • May 19, 2017 01:57 AM

This is defiantly a very debatable topic. I think Kansas is the easiest because of the consistency of the program, we have had some bad years as has everyone else but being in the top 5 in just about every category besides NC's (T-7th) makes us a Blue blood. I then would say UNC, Duke and UK. These programs make up the top 4 in all time wins list and are top 4 for win percentage, 3 of the 4 are in the top 5 for NCs as well, you don't get those without being pretty dam good for a long time. UCLA isn't a blue blood because they were great for 10 or 12 years in the 60s and 70s but weren't jack before it and have been hit or miss since. UCONN because they sucked before the 1999 title team (0 FFs and 4 E8s prior to that year), it takes more than a decade to become a blue blood (sorry WSU fans). Indiana isn't jack since Knight left, one good season in 2002 they have 1 FF, 1 E8 and 3 conference titles since 1993, that's not getting it done. Syracuse? don't make me laugh. They only 1 NC (that we gift wrapped them with missed FTs, don't get going on that), 6 FFs, none of which came before 1975. They are 6th on the all time wins list but with only one title and 40 years of good i don't think so.

Coleby Transfers • May 19, 2017 01:22 AM

Ya think we will be in 10 times better shape than last year with Preston>Bragg, Whittman>Coleby, Doke>LL, Sophomore Lightfoot> Freshman Lightfoot. If Svi stays in the draft we could land another big as well, maybe Justion or another grad transfer.

@JhwkrRedLegs The trouble I have with your half time statement is you no idea whatsoever. It looked to me like he ran outta gas and couldn't hit shots in the second, just like the rest of the team. When you play that tight you are doomed, I'm just as disappointed as the next guy but we have to learn how to loosen up in E8 games we looked scared to play the last 2 years. Their bigs being 10x more athletic than LL hurt a ton too.

Keegan's Bluff • May 18, 2017 11:38 PM

I agree with Keegan that JJ and BIFM arent replaceable, but I still think we could be a better team, honestly i thought we were better in 2016 than 2017. How could we better better? Well low post scoring for the first time since Emiid left( who was hurt when it mattered). I love LL and always will, we need 4 or 5 year guys but he doesn't start on 3/4s of Self's teams here. I honestly think Doke could double LL's production, which would pretty much be 15 ppg and 15 rpg, with Whittman or Preston and Lightfoot improving we will have better subs for the post (Bragg, Coleby and Lightfoot were all good for about 3 games a piece to be honest). Our PG wont have to average 21 ppg to make up for our starting center averaging 8. DG can average his 14, Newman can score with anyone and average JJ's 16, Vick or Svi both can average over 10 which Svi averaged 9 LY, who ever starts at the 4 could average around 12 and Doke around 15 which is collectively the same in terms of scoring(21,14, 9, 16 and 8 is what starters had last year and bench was 7ppg). The defense and rebounding LY was statistically one of worst in the Self era, we let up a ton of points, so i dont really see us getting worse in those areas.

I personally think its a bunch of crap. If it was as simple as Nike on board we would have Nike (I'm sure if we could come to that conclusion so could Self and co) , hate to remind ya'll but we didn't get a title in the years we were with Nike. Yes I know Nike holds a bunch of camps but so does Under Armor and Adidas, others too. Wigs and Jojo both signed with Adidas and are happy. UCLA all of the sudden is getting media out the a** with the Ball brothers and they just left Adidas to got to Under Armor. They have the 3rd rated recruiting class so I'm saying it doesn't matter.

@jaybate-1-0 There you are, back to your old self!!

Why I'm looking forward to next year. • May 13, 2017 02:57 AM

I'm always excited about it, even if I think we are taking a step back (don't believe we are) like 09 or 06. This is Kansas friends, basketball and crab cakes that's what Kansas does!!!

Is this the best Kansas Team since 2009? • May 13, 2017 02:49 AM

@JayHawkFanToo @dylans I would be willing to bet KSUCK does something similar with the bags. I believe they are adding metal detectors to sporting events too. Kinda stinks but no reason to take a risk with amount of craziness in our world today. My wife doesn't take here purse to stuff like that ether way just to prevent the chance of it being stolen.

Loyola-Marymount transfer Kevin Young beat out McDonald’s All-American Perry Ellis in Ellis’ freshman season after averaging 10.7 points and 5.3 rebounds in 30 minutes for LMU in his second and final season there. It’s far from a given that Preston will beat out Whitman, who averaged 10.1 and 5.4 rebounds in 21.1 minutes in his third and final season for William & Mary. A interesting thing to consider, point made by Tom Keegan on KUsports.

Dwindling Big 12 Basketball • May 07, 2017 03:12 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 I tend to agree the Texas is the key to our conferences success because of their size and the media market they have. The trouble is with UT football is they suck and really always have since the B12 was formed outside of 05 and 09.(OU 10 titles to Texas's 3) The big 12 is really KU and the rest in basketball, OU and the rest in football. Texas being even remotely relevant in anything is most due to the media market. They are pretty much good at Volleyball right now and that's it. I just looked it up and Texas finished in the lower half of every single B12 race for this school year besides women's BB, VB and soccer with 0 conference titles. Ou much better all around athletic school, power in gymnastics (2017 NC), Softball and Football. Its just crazy to think that results mean nothing just your fair weather football fans...

Dwindling Big 12 Basketball • May 07, 2017 02:36 PM

I said it last summer when the league decided not to expand, its only a matter of time before the sh** hits the fan. The Big 12 also was last of the power 5 in NFL draft picks as well and second from last the past 5 years. 1 FF in the last 5 years in BB and 1 CFB in 3 years. Why we didn't add Louisville when we had the chance with Cincinnati I'll never know. By the year 2022 the B12 will be a memory, hopefully the B10 wants us is all I can say.

Cozart finds new home. • May 06, 2017 02:30 PM

The former starting KU QB will be headed north and west to Boise State. This really surprised me as did Willis heading to VT. I really don't get it to be honest, these guys claim to want to go where they are able to play and moving to better programs than KUs doesn't seem to be the place to do it. Both players likely aren't D1 talents IMO, anyway Cozart will graduate from KU soon and be eligible to play in 2017. He will be competing with 3 other guys for the starting job, best of luck to him.

Kelly Oubre last night • May 06, 2017 02:18 PM

Olynyk is dirty, thought that when he was in college. If you watch closely he's always elbowing and throwing cheap shots. I think this is what makes the NBA better to watch, no obviously you don't want to guys in a fist fight but guys pushing and tempers flaring reminds of the days when the NBA was watchable.

Wow @jaybate-1-0, You okay? Most of these teams we have played at some point and most of us know what conference they are in. I also don't buy into the Nike hype at this point with just about every other brand has their camp and most kids go to several. Not to mention hasn't self got at least
4 #1 recruits on ether ESPN or Rivals with Henry, Selby, Wigs and Jackson? If it was as simple as Nike we would go back to them even tho I believe Adidas offered more cash and mech. People forget we were nike for quite a few years and didn't win jack diddly.

Is this the best Kansas Team since 2009? • May 06, 2017 01:58 PM

Oh yeah, its early forsure with the opener 4 months away. We have just reached the boring season of sports IMO. Don't mind a little baseball but prefer FB or BB. To me its nice to feel excited for the first time since 09 or 10. I can feel culture changing and see the players improving. We just jhave to continue to battle and take it to the field. We as fans need to step up our game aswell, we competed too good at home last year to have a 1/3 full stadium.

@brooksmd I'm more of a college guy myself. Pro ball sucks in every sport.

@Kcmatt7 @approxinfinity I don't mind watching baseball from time to time but it's silly to me to play 160 games to figure out who belongs in the post season, this time of the season is a complete joke, 3/4 empty stadiums and players just half assing it. Playoffs much funner to watch. Baseball is considered America's greatest past time but only because its 50 years older and the add all the games together. Football, basketball and even Nascar have destroyed MLB consistently since the mid 90s in TV ratings.

Is this the best Kansas Team since 2009? • May 04, 2017 03:45 AM

Tom Keegan recently wrote this column on KU's offense this up coming season- http://www2.kusports.com/news/2017/may/01/tom-keegan-ku-football-offense-projects-rank-highe/?football ↗
I'll do him one better, this is the best football team KU has put on the field since 2009 period. The 2009 Hawks finished 5-7 on a 7 game losing streak, I will go to my grave thinking this team wins 8 or 9 games without sweet Lew's wild witch hunt in progress (but we wont get into that). The offensive line returns 4 of 5 spots and has a high ceiling to be the best since 09 or 10. The QBs have a chance to better than anyone not named Ressing that we have had regardless of who it is, IMO only Webb and Cummings were worth anything. The WR core is the best since 09 with ease, hell with Weis we went 2 years without a WR TD catch. The RBs are kinda a crap shoot because so much depends on the line blocking someone but we could have a few backs that end up as good as James Sims (still shocked he never got a NFL shot). The Defensive line looks scary good to me, only the 07 team had anywhere this talent in my memory with all American James McClinton. The Linebackers have to learn to stop the run and I think they can but they are probably average during our down hill slide with guys like Steven Johnson and Ben Heeney getting to the NFL but they can become one of the better groups collectively. The Secondary has some young guys like Lee and Mayberry that I'm real excited about but are a question mark going forward, the secondary from 09-11 was a complete joke so this group defiantly won't be the worst we've seen. The Kicking game again is a question mark and outside of Trevor punting a few years back probably cant get any worse but it has to improve, a solid kicking game beats TCU and ISU last year. No excuses IMO to not win a minimum of 4 games (most since 09).

Paul Pierce • May 04, 2017 03:18 AM

A piece of my childhood gone, Paul Pierce was my first ku basketball player love. Back when I was 7 or 8 and just getting into KU BB I thought he was going to be one of the greats. I'd say he did pretty darn well in his pro career. @Fightsongwriter That 97 team believe with Vaughn and Pierce or the 2003 team with Hinrich and Collison are easily the two best KU teams to not cut down the nets. Sadly I feel like we've had about 10 teams in the 20 plus years I've been watching that had the team to do so......

Carlton Bragg to Arizona State • May 04, 2017 03:01 AM

Figured he'd end up there. I'm still friends with him on snapchat and he was there multiple times this past week. It will be interesting to see if Sam can crack the rotation here. I guess he would pretty much have to if Svi stays in the draft and Duval takes his talents elsewhere. Anyone else remember this many transfers on our team at once. We have Newman, Coleby, Cunliffe, Whitman and the Lawson brothers. Is this trouble to have half of our team filled up with transfers? Guess will know a lot more in a year or two.

KUs Greatest Coach??? • May 04, 2017 02:24 AM

Nice. Here are some lists of mine. lol
Best KU Basketball coach
1. Phog Allen, Did a ton for the game, has a NC and most wins
2. Bill Self, Winning the NC in 08 moved him to #2. Will be second in wins early next season. Another NC gives him the #1 spot.
3. Larry Brown, NC in 1988, left us in a bad spot.
4. Roy Williams, Kept us a super power after Brown got us there.
5. W.O. Hamilton, has the 4th best win percentage and 5 conference titles.
6. James Naismith, was a terrible coach (only ku coach with sub .500 record) but invented the best game ever gets him outta the cellar.
7. Ted Owens, 4th on KUs all time wins list, would be #4 or #5 if would've retired 10 years earlier. Made a single sweet 16, won two conference titles and only 5 NCAA appearances in his last 10.
8. Dick Harp, Dr. Allen was quoted with saying he could win a NC with Wilt and 4 sorority girls. How Harp messed that up to me is crazy when UNC's leading scorer fouled out in regulation of a triple OT game....Damn it.

Kansas Lands Poetic Big... • May 04, 2017 01:44 AM

Well this really surprised me, I figured if we were to sneak in a big it would be from the Jusiton kid. Clearly that ship has sailed. This kid looks to be better that Coleby and Lightfoot right now. He will be in the rotation without question. Looks to have great foot work and hands, someone that Doka could learn a lot from and has a fair amount of D1 PT. Bill Self pulls a rabbit outta a hat again.

NFL Draft • Apr 30, 2017 05:37 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 don't mean to offend friend, just can't stand hypocrisy.

KU's Next BBall coach - a game! • Apr 30, 2017 05:26 PM

@truehawk93 I be willing to bet a big amount Roy would be long gone bye the time Haase ended up here and with it most of his ties to UNC. I think I'll worry about the subject more when it comes to light friends.

NFL Draft • Apr 30, 2017 05:20 PM

@HighEliteMajor I agree just get tired of the hypocrisy myself. They want equal when it's convenient.

svi invited to combine • Apr 30, 2017 03:04 PM

I wish Svi the best, I see some negative comments sometimes about guys going too early and I agree that the guys that don't go first round(they get a contract) as under classmen should stay. People get mad because they don't get a degree, why do people get a degree? To help your career, right? What does being drafted in the NBA do? It helps your career.

NFL Draft • Apr 30, 2017 02:57 PM

@DoubleDD I agree with you on the Mixon deal. I kinda have to shake my head at the political correctness of ESPN. Did anyone catch the royals fans fighting? Same deal as Mixon with a woman spitting and hitting the male multiple times before they snapped. But these same folks that complain about both of these incidents are ones marching for equal rights for women. To me that is equal rights, don't think most guys would take being spat on or hit by another guy without a fight. Play stupid games win stupid prizes. Now I'm old school as well and don't believe in hitting women but you can only tease a dog so long before it bites you. I personally think the chiefs made a mistake by picking Mahomes. He won't last, he's small and just throws the ball up for grabs most the time. I guess it can't be any worse than the laughable Croyle kid that was the next Brett Favre.

Royals vs ChiSox -- Game 2 • Apr 26, 2017 02:28 AM

Ya its been pretty hard to watch early this year. Last year it was the pitching, now these guy couldnt hit the ball with a tennis racket.

Charlie Moore • Apr 26, 2017 02:21 AM

Interesting, so that eats up all of our remaining scholarships unless Svi decides to stay in the draft or take his game over seas. .hen that would leave one for ether Juiston or Duval.

Juiston • Apr 24, 2017 02:28 AM

Here's what is interesting to me about the Juiston kid, rivals shows that only us and ISU are the D1 schools after him but ISU hasn't offered him yet but it says we have. With only one scholarship left and not knowing a 100% where Duval is going, he could be on a stand still from Self on actually committing to us. The fifth wheel in this equation is the PG transfer from Cal that is considering us aswell, which would eat up that final scholarship too. I'd say one we get one of these 3, unless Svi goes pro which would open up 2 spots.....

TREPIDATION FOR NEXT YEAR. • Apr 24, 2017 02:18 AM

Who will run the point next year assuming we don't land Duval? I don't really see Vick as a PG and his assists numbers reflect that as well. Can DG become a scoring PG like BIFM? I think he can, he only averaged one assist per game less and lead us in assists in several games. From what I have seen of Newman I'm not such DG will need to score more than he averaged this past season. I think DG needs to work on his dribble drive and step back quite a bit, I believe that's why he is returning and not testing the waters. There are a ton of streaky good 3 point guys to draft.

I Found Us a Point Guard • Apr 24, 2017 02:11 AM

As much as I love LL this was most of his issue, he was not athletic enough to play d1 ball. This kid looks slower than he did. Size is great but you have to have some athletic ability to play at this level, that 7'6 guy for Cal Irvine wasn't skilled whatsoever. They would pass it in to him and we would double him, then get a steal because he didn't move the ball or make a decision of what he was going to do very fast. I'll take a 6'9 kid that has athletic ability and foot work over a tree that just stands and cant run the floor.

2017 Kicking Game • Apr 24, 2017 02:05 AM

Very true my friend, we beat TCU and ISU last season with solid kicking units.

Angels vs Royals -- Game 2 • Apr 16, 2017 02:48 AM

Good win solid pitching again to night. Lets get back to .500

2017 Spring Game Saturday April 15 at 1 PM • Apr 16, 2017 02:00 AM

@stoptheflop I think it looks like fun with letting the kid have time to practice with the players, the inflatables etc. I really liked the fans that got picked to call plays. I really hope everyone can get to some games this year. We competed really well at home last year even in our loses, thats what makes me want to come. Tho being a KU football fan for the last 20 years I've sat thru some beat downs. My first game in that stadium was 01 vs OU and it got nasty fast. We went thru my high school FCA and it was free so that was good. But even in the early 00's we had hardly any fans in the stands. We went the next year to the A&M game and they sucked too, so we pretty much could've sat anywhere in the place. Outside of the 08 game I went to the place has been half full every other time, even early in 07. I hate it for the players we have to be better fans end of story. @Texas-Hawk-10 sign off says it all. I've been to baseball, volleyball, MBB, WBB, softball and football games. If your a fan of KU support them all!

2017 Spring Game Saturday April 15 at 1 PM • Apr 15, 2017 08:42 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 I agree, besides the secondary but its also hard to tell with the teams split up in a draft manor and not a first and second team manor. I think we should do the spring game like other schools and make the first team go against the second team so maybe they can score and have excitement, it was a boring game IMO outside of about 6 plays.

Malik Newman Offensive Highlights • Apr 15, 2017 08:18 PM

Frank just had the highest scoring season for a Bill Self player here at Kansas, barely edging Wayne Simien @ 20.9 PPG. That number could very well be broken by Newman next year. I really like his ability to take over a game when he needs to. I think we can get a better feel for him watching this rather than highschool tapes with this being made from his Mississippi state time.

Spring Game thoughts • Apr 15, 2017 08:04 PM

The Spring game has come to an end with Team Jayhawks (white) beating Team KU (blue) 14-7. Unfortunately I wasn't able to make it to town this weekend with other stuff I have going but was able to watch 3/4s of the game. Some of the good things I saw was the defensive line looked really good and didn't give the QBs a ton of time to throw the ball and the run defense looked better than what we had last year. The game had zero turnovers! Which killed us last year in so many games that if we just dont cough it up we win or are right there, I realize its a practice game but I'll take it. I think all of the QBs looked okay, won't say great but Bender looks to be the leader IMO after a 11/15 150 yards and 2 TDs. Also liked seeing some of the guys back on the sidelines like Darrell Stuckey and Chris Harris JR. I also have some concerns of coarse lol. The offensive line didn't look very good to me for a group that returned 4 of 5 starters which caused the running game to be nothing short of a joke (I know they werent pared excalty right with the draft). The DBs looked a little suspect to me as well. The field goal kicking looks to cost us some games again this year without improvement before fall (4 misses in a 1 point loss to TCU), missed a straight on 35 yard FG, against the wind but most average college kickers will make that. Quv was a complete ghost which kinda surprised me a little. Play calling wasn't worth a darn, but they never call anything to crazy in the spring game. Anyhow just some quick thoughts from my end. RCJH

For those asking about scholarships • Apr 10, 2017 07:57 PM

!IMG_20170410_145524.jpg ↗
Looks like we have one left currently so ether Jusiton or Duval probably gets it.

DG news! • Apr 09, 2017 10:02 PM

If we get Duval, which from what I'm picking up we won't but you never know how much Self was able to get outta Mason with his awards, that could be a roll in our favor. Think of a Duval, DG, Newman, Preston and Doke lineup with Vick, Garret, Jusiton and LF off the bench. That team has a higher ceiling IMO than our last 2 eilte 8 teams.

DG news! • Apr 09, 2017 09:49 PM

@BeddieKU23 we have Vick who may or may not start with Svis return.

Bragg is leaving • Apr 09, 2017 04:25 AM

It will be interesting to see who we sign in this late recruiting period. If I'm correct with JJ, BIFM. LL and Bragg out of the mix, if everyone else stays doesn't that leave us with two Scholarship(counting our 2 signees)? Rivals shows us as the only school to offer Jusiton at this point so you'd think he's a shoe-in at this point but Duval seems to not be on board if DG stays. We will know a ton more in a few weeks.

KU loses Tight End to transfer • Apr 07, 2017 10:26 PM

http://www2.kusports.com/news/2017/apr/07/tight-end-jace-sternberger-transferring-kansas/ ↗

Not really a surprise with the air raid only using TEs sparringly. This quote makes the guy look like he wasn't willing to put in the work, which is a cancer for the team so bye Felica. From Jace-“Overall, KU is a great place to be and I know they are going to be very successful in the future,” Sternberger told the Journal-World. “Those guys work way too hard. In the end the overall scheme wasn't the best fit for me.”
