Box Score Musings • Nov 08, 2022 03:53 PM

@benshawks08 my only hope is it becomes a Russ rob sherron type deal. Juan starts but Bobby plays more minutes and better production.

The 5 spot • Nov 08, 2022 03:48 PM

@benshawks08 he’s unknown by other teams right now. Juan was similar and as the year went on teams figured out he was no threat and would sag off him much like kj just making our offense impossible to run when two guys aren’t threats.

Swain or someone posted a picture of Pitt state sagging so far off us to start daring us to shoot. If Boschee can figure that out the same will happen with other coaches.

Box Score Musings • Nov 08, 2022 03:21 PM

@KirkIsMyHinrich 100% agree. Udeh and KJ need to flip flop minutes going forward

More Bobby when Juan can’t shoot. 11 points on 13 shots meanwhile Bobby had 13 on 7 shots.

Truthfully Bill will never ever let anyone supplant Juan but we can only hope if a healthy Bobby plays this way all year he gets minutes like Remy did in the ncaa tourney

The 5 spot • Nov 08, 2022 03:19 PM

@benshawks08 there is some truth to this but not enough weight to garner the minutes (especially kj) that they will play.

We got down 21-6 to a d2 school who isn’t some top d2 ranked team.

Omaha is over 300 in kenpom and crutchfield said when kj is in theyd play off him (said in another thread by Bshark).

When we play legit teams who have 6-10 to 7 footers KJ’s hustle will only go so far and his absolute zero threat offensively means the big man guarding him can camp in the lane so we can’t drive. That forces us to Chuck 3’s and this isn’t a good three point shooting team.

Part of the problem is Bill’s allegiance to said players as he sees their positive traits but negates a lot of their negatives which domino effect into why offensively we are hurting ourselves further with lineups.

When kj comes in Bobby should sub in for Juan so he’s at least guarded from deep.

The 5 spot • Nov 08, 2022 02:29 PM

@BShark KJ in the 4 wasn’t good. He did have a nice pass for a lob to Udeh but offensively with him unable to even look to drive, Juan is the same and udeh can’t even post up the offense is brutal

The 5 spot • Nov 08, 2022 01:24 PM

@BShark hopefully bill’s espn+ feed was better than most.

It’s obvious we are a better team with Udeh. When KJ and Juan are out there then it’s horrible spacing because the D can sag off those guys and clog the lane. Wilson and McCullar can’t drive as well because the D doesn’t honor a kick out to 2 players.

Udeh needs 25-28 mpg with kj filling in the rest. Bill has that long, athletic rim runner who will learn to block shots better paired with some guard who I think can shoot it (Gradey and Wilson). McCullar will come around and if Bobby can shoot 32-33% then we are going to be dangerous!

Peyton Manning Game Thread • Nov 08, 2022 02:51 AM

@BShark

Absolutely have to have him to compete against Duke, IU, UK and the tough big 12

Come tourney time we should know who we are and have been challenged

Udeh has to play the most minutes at the 5

Bobby potentially pushing Juan for split minutes if he can score

Gradey is one of a kind a 6-8 jj redick jump shot, plus midrange game plus ability to drive and catch lobs
Dude is legit but man I hope and think he stays 1 more year he loves KU

@kuballin10 is norm a hall of famer?

Minutes were preset somewhat by self. Norm said he knew who first off the bench was ect. Self’s sees it all at practice so it was somewhat still his lineups

@benshawks08 said in Peyton Manning Game Thread:

I think we are seeing why zuby hasn’t seen a lot of early run.

Yeah I retract my comments lol

Something about yada yada trust the hall of famer is something I should do

Peyton Manning Game Thread • Nov 08, 2022 01:48 AM

@BShark

I’m gonna be unbearable when Elmarko and Chris should be the starting 1-2 or 2-3 with Bobby at the 1 next year

Peyton Manning Game Thread • Nov 08, 2022 01:47 AM

On cue lol

Peyton Manning Game Thread • Nov 08, 2022 01:46 AM

Gradey is ridiculous
Udeh needs to start - don’t care farmer haha
Mj needs to take Joe’s minutes
Bobby honestly outplaying Juan who can’t buy a layup or do anything offensively

@kuballin10 and he’s back. Common rotation

Kj is gonna he starting 5 cause Bill gonna Bill

Should be Udeh then Zuby (Clemence I’ve given up on he’s block feet).

This kj at the 4 is atrocious

Peyton Manning Game Thread • Nov 08, 2022 01:41 AM

@benshawks08 we just had a tv timeout and that’s when he sat

And then pulled for kj. Just awful rotations let him keep playing and gaining confidence

Peyton Manning Game Thread • Nov 08, 2022 01:23 AM

Where is Zuby? He better get some minutes tonight over Clemence

Peyton Manning Game Thread • Nov 08, 2022 01:23 AM

@BShark he can’t score either

Bobby is better pg option tonight

The 5 spot • Nov 06, 2022 12:25 AM

@rockchalkjayhawk this year he will do it more than any year however, his talk down in Houston he explained his philosophy, ā€œno easy baskets everā€.

He thus hates pressing because if beaten correctly a press often ends in a layup or dunk and isn’t worth the risk compared to potentially getting a steal.

I agree with him here but in todays game you gotta defend the three point line and not just the rim

The 5 spot • Nov 06, 2022 12:23 AM

@Kcmatt7 yeah he’s tall and lanky maybe that’s what the other poster meant (he looked skinny but said small). He’s a legit 6-10/6-11 guy I think

The 5 spot • Nov 05, 2022 02:02 AM

@drgnslayr to name a few post threats

Duke - 7-1’ Lively
Tenn - 7-1 (don’t know his name)
Indiana - 6-9 trace Jackson
Kentucky - Oscar
Baylor - has 3-4 6-8 to 7’ athletic bigs

Pretty much any team you’d have to beat to win a natty

The 5 spot • Nov 05, 2022 01:58 AM

@BShark The starting lineup was Bill’s defensive dream and we got down 15 to a D2 school

The lineup only works if Juan looks to score. I won’t say Bill lied but all we’ve heard is talk about Juan taking a huge step offensively to lead the team. He doesn’t drive (reason he shoots such few free throws) and if he can’t knock down a three he’s offensively just a hockey assist guy.

Juan can’t score, kj can’t score, udeh can’t score so it leaves Wilson and McCullar to chuck and they were off to start. Pair that with atrocious defense and you get down quick.

Juan not even looking to score and Joe being atrocious were the two biggest takeaways from that game to me.

Grady, Wilson and McCullars gotta score 15-20 a piece to carry us offensively.

Pitt State Gorillas Game Thread • Nov 04, 2022 05:48 PM

@rockchalkjayhawk fantastic point
Sure makes you wonder.

Bill values things and players many in the game wouldn’t. Curious why that is.

Kerr is great because he plays his guys to their strengths that’s the job as a coach. Use their skill set and maximize it not take them and try to make them fit a scheme they don’t.

Pitt State Gorillas Game Thread • Nov 04, 2022 01:12 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 against the competition it isn’t great

You could have had 10 assists with guys wide open knocking down shots the second half

If we are told he will score more I expect to see that aggression but if we get Juan of last year he isn’t improved

How he didn’t shoot 500 threes a day plus his floaters I won’t understand. We are told he’s gonna be nails and lead us so I expect that to be the case (this Juan in the Nova game)

Pitt State Gorillas Game Thread • Nov 04, 2022 01:10 PM

@bskeet as Farmer pointed out Wilson was really selfish this game.

He drove twice where he had easy dump offs to bigs for dunks and instead he tried tough layups up against two defenders and missed

Juan we were told is the most improved and will score. His stat line didn’t show any of that.

Love the 10 assists - hate against Pitt state he didn’t drive and live in the lane. That’s what’s frustrating if he isn’t going to score then he has to penetrate and he just passes it around the perimeter not doing much.

Gonzaga? • Nov 04, 2022 02:05 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10 exactly - well said

Pitt State Gorillas Game Thread • Nov 04, 2022 12:58 AM

@BShark he tried to make a post move lol

Agreed Udeh is the rim runner I screamed about when Dave was here these past few years (watching Baylor do it said we need to)

Go 4 guards who can score around a 6-11 rim runner and go win a lot of games

Pitt State Gorillas Game Thread • Nov 04, 2022 12:54 AM

@DanR dude missed a left hand layup - we’ve been told he is to look to score and so far not much tonight

Pitt State Gorillas Game Thread • Nov 04, 2022 12:54 AM

@FarmerJayhawk you don’t think Zuby can do that?

Udeh clearly can dude is lonnggg

Pitt State Gorillas Game Thread • Nov 04, 2022 12:47 AM

@BShark needs to start now (him playing more).
Those UK freshman come in and produce - gotta loosen the leash

Pitt State Gorillas Game Thread • Nov 04, 2022 12:45 AM

@BShark fair enough

My bill self pet is Zuby

Dude went up against Lively (duke’s guy) and had 20 points and 20 boards - this I read on the other board I think have not verified

I know he routinely had 20 boards a night in high school dude is a freak with mid range game and with the 5 spot this bad get him a ton of play

Pitt State Gorillas Game Thread • Nov 04, 2022 12:42 AM

@KirkIsMyHinrich ding ding and Joe needs to be that this year or MJ

Juan HAS to look to score if he plays all year like tonight it’s gonna be a long season

Pitt State Gorillas Game Thread • Nov 04, 2022 12:42 AM

@FarmerJayhawk fair points can’t question Self

Him saying he liked tyus Jones over guys like Wiggins and randle does make me wonder though šŸ˜‚

Im past questioning Bills assessment of big talent for a few years after Dave carried our asses on his back to a :trophy:

Well said…..I remember in Orlando we threw it in to Dave to win the game play was a mess with remy and we lost

Who could have predicted what happened later that season

After we got pounded by UK I said no chance with this team and yet this time every break fell our way and our nba studs played like it

Pitt State Gorillas Game Thread • Nov 04, 2022 12:39 AM

@BShark screening sure anything else nah

Zuby got in and gave us a spark. What did you not like about his play?

He’s better than kj right now

Gonzaga? • Nov 04, 2022 12:38 AM

@Jethro this is a no brainer. Any fan against it is an idiot

Pitt State Gorillas Game Thread • Nov 04, 2022 12:35 AM

Dick is the man and better start every game from here on out

Jalen and Mccullar will be solid

Bobby is a great backup pg

5 spot needs to be Clemence and Zuby but Bills gonna be pushing kj and udeh for some reason

Juan is doing nothing Self claimed and looks bad offensively. Not even looking to shoot or score even when we were down 21-6

We need a dog like MJ to pair with Dick so Juan can feed them all game. Hearing he’s in the dog house which is typical. Bill favoring less athletic guys than taking the studs and making the team great

Insane Scrimmage/Exhibition Results • Oct 31, 2022 12:13 AM

Tennessee (Atlantis team) beat the brakes of the zags

They have a legit pg (who can score), athleticism, can shoot it and some good size with 6-10 and 7-1

?cxt=HHwWgIDU0d6epIMsAAAA

The 4-Out Rotation • Oct 29, 2022 01:27 AM

@rockchalkjayhawk I’ve been saying trob but txhawk claimed no way

Clemence
KJ/Zuby

Hearing from the scrimmage TJ for Illini and Skyy were guard isn’t ideal but Self I’m sure was all over with lineups

Encouraging is he said Joe was really really good and for us to be good we need good Joe

The 4-Out Rotation • Oct 26, 2022 08:59 PM

@rockchalkjayhawk
Gradey might start but I think Joe finishes

Bigs wise: Clemence starts but KJ and Zuby I think get serious chances. Udeh may be our best defender with his length but from what I’ve seen Zuby is like trob (not offensively yet) - the ball just bounced his way as he gets 10-12 rebounds. Dude is an animal on the boards.

Going to be fun to watch how two time ncaa champ coach figures this out.

We got some serious talent when even a guy like MJ might struggle to get solid minutes.

The 4-Out Rotation • Oct 25, 2022 06:00 PM

Great point bshark
After last years run it has completely changed how I enjoy the team

The 4-Out Rotation • Oct 25, 2022 05:44 PM

I was like you and not high on McCullar. Watch the highlight video he has some plays against Duke and he looks quicker which to me is more important than playing above the rim. It’s nice to lob it up but I’d rather you be quick like AI or Frank Mason or tyshawn.

Video changed my mind on McC

You nailed it 100% handling of players on the bench and maximizing this roster is crucial to March success

2023 Recruiting • Aug 07, 2022 03:19 AM

@jayballer67 your last sentence is exactly why we should offer.

Bills D with a legit rim protector is borderline unfair.

Best Self Ever • Jun 28, 2022 08:11 PM

Best video I’ve ever seen with him being transparent on his philosophies and handling players/culture.

Banquet video was great but this is the best I’ve seen.

ā€œBall has to touch the paint whether off the bounce or through the postā€

He’s the best there is no doubt and it appears he learned from a builder how to have proper culture and relax in the tourney. Just awesome stuff.

2022 Transfer Portal Thread • Jun 16, 2022 03:53 PM

@jayballer67 100% agree I actually like how versatile the bigs are via each their own individual style of play. Allows us to play a lot of different ways offensively with Zach stretching the floor. This team is going to be fun to watch and hopefully we appreciate it because I’ll be the first to admit I had no belief in last years team that they could win it all. Last year has changed my mindset completely.

I’ve seen other teams get lucky and win but never us. After last year, I’ll hopefully be a little more positive around here.

2022 Transfer Portal Thread • Jun 16, 2022 01:45 PM

@BShark agreed and as we all do.
If he learns from it that’s the key.

In recruiting it’s like the nfl/nba draft and you have sure fire studs but even then sometimes they flop or don’t live up to the hype. It’s a crapshoot often.

Cam could flat out score and used his wide body in D2. Hard to ignore his numbers as say you throw Mitch down in D2 I doubt he’d produced like Cam.

You hit on most recruits or transfer and miss on a few as maybe they just aren’t cutout for it. Hope Cam proves us all wrong but between Zach and the two frosh studs who are athletic freaks hard to see much time there.

2022 Transfer Portal Thread • Jun 15, 2022 02:41 AM

@FarmerJayhawk words I don’t hear often here!

If you don’t have any inside info on who’s getting ā€œthe talkā€ then hard to believe we have any chance.

Makes me think either we aren’t confident in Udeh or something granted the Nance kid just from stats and some highlight videos looked solid.

2022 Transfer Portal Thread • Jun 14, 2022 10:54 PM

@FarmerJayhawk Pete Nance? Only name I can find out there right now and seems unc bound.

Who’s transferring out?

Doesn’t this signify maybe some open gym viewing has shown some things where Self wants more reinforcements?
