@ParisHawk I discovered the Truth by gazing into my navel. It is not a web site in the usual meaning, and I don't really recommend it.

Bragg Charges Dropped • Dec 15, 2016 03:29 PM

@dylans All too often the crazy ones tend to seem really interesting as their synapses sometimes are firing a zillion times a second with clever quips and ripostes but the mis-firing isn't apparent until later.

Happens with politicians a lot, too.

Perhaps some good news? • Dec 15, 2016 03:25 PM

@REHawk Maybe she will go on Celebrity Apprentice and really start throwing accusations out there.

I’m talking 20-30 years before even running for president. We need a voice of reason.

Well, crap. I will be way too old to run by then. Y'all youngsters might have to figure this out by your lonesomes.

On a serious note, the internet has exponentially expanded the amount of information available to everybody, but most studies show that most people look for information (or opinions or even "fake news") that confirms their already held opinions. Thus, what could be a tool has become a set of self-imposed blinders instead.

Charges no more...At Least on Bragg ! • Dec 15, 2016 04:32 AM

@Blown Thank you for the post because I never had heard of Joe Davis until this topic.

Reason 276 for me to never ever look at Twitter!

@Kcmatt7 It is always invigorating to see what excitement the hope and optimism of youth can bring. I am a bit more pessimistic. I always am, by the way, at the begining of any new presidency. Especially ones like Obama's and Trump's, both of whom seem convinced that their elections were mandates for extreme policy positions just because they have the power edge--temporarily. The Republic needs compromise on both sides.

We will check back in 4 years to see if the new guy, who thinks he is so smart he doesn't need to listen to anyone with experience, succeeds as a leader any better than the old guy, who thought being really smart meant listening to way too many people and so he gave away too much policy-making power to his long-entrenched experienced allies rather than unifying as he had promised.

@YellowBeak Thank you.

Extra points for anyone who, in all the speculation and rumors after Bragg's arrest, tossed out the possibility that Bragg might actually have pushed a woman UP the stairs.

@KUSTEVE For all the criticism of the good old US of A, we have a pretty remarkably stable system, surviving many crises and major upheavals. Let us hope it stays that way.

your take/input - -curious? • Dec 13, 2016 09:11 PM

@justanotherfan I agree on Dumars as a major candidate. Great GM, too.

your take/input - -curious? • Dec 13, 2016 09:09 PM

@JayHawkFanToo I admit he could do great things, but I always felt it was only about him, perhaps because he pretty much said so. “I don’t wanna be Jordan, I don’t wanna be Magic, I don’t wanna be Bird or Isiah. I don’t wanna be any of those guys. When my career’s over, I want to look in the mirror and say I did it my way.”

Each of those guys had better players around them, but they also worked really hard at making those other guys better. Each had much better team-helping stats, and each had multiple championships. And I think it had something to do with their way. Iverson's way got him scoring awards, but not much else.

Didn’t he almost single-handedly drive Larry Brown to the looney bin?

As to Wilt, he was up against a dynasty in Boston and he did get 2 rings eventually. And Ewing never displayed Iverson's cocky crappy attitude that he was much better than other greats.

I feel the same way about Westbrook--game on the line, he wants the credit for winning more than he wants to make his team win. He should have passed at the end of games 6 and 7 in the W finals last year, but pushed it, rushed it, flew it, and blew it.

In fairness, this guy disagrees with me on Westbrook but reading the article supports my theory overall: he keeps trying to be the hero, without carrying it off. I think it hurts a team to do that. www.cbssports.com/nba/news/russell-westbrooks-poor-finish-in-western-finals-shouldnt-feed-a-bad-narrative/amp/

@brooksmd That second video brought tears to my eyes. People need to watch that!

Of course, now the NCAA will follow those 8 kids, rule that they received impermissible benefits, and screw up their first year of college. KU will help them out.

@DanR Quite impressive! And I could see Udoka also taking out a phone booth given the chance.

your take/input - -curious? • Dec 13, 2016 05:27 PM

@jayballer54 My choice of underrated player would be Michael Cooper. Glue guy!

Incidentally, I like the discussion but I can't see why you are concerned if anybody would take it the wrong way--forums are ablaze over the years with fights over "Who is the Greatest of all time (the GOAT)?"

Totally legit to ask "Who is the greatest who wasn't recognized as such?" @DanR and I just pointed out that Pippen was not underappreciated or unrecognized. That he played with one of 4 players in the running for GOAT meant he got less press and maybe public attention. But which of Pippen or Jordan would you choose first if you had a draft of players from that era?

Who was more responsible for the Yankees' success in the late '20s and the '30s, Ruth or Gehrig? Each made the other one great, but Ruth is considered a God and Gehrig is remembered best for his durability. (Sadly, ironically, he has now become known for a debilitating disease.)

If you want to ponder more imponderables, how about this one: Who is the most overrated player in NBA history? My choice is Allen Iverson, by virtue of always getting gaudy stats without ever taking his teams anywhere special.

your take/input - -curious? • Dec 13, 2016 04:11 PM

I understand your feelings for Scottie, but, should someone elected to the Hall of Fame be eligible for your underappreciated award? I think the public might have been less aware of him, but I don't know any further recognition he could have gotten from players, coaches, his own team, and the media.

From Wikipedia:

Considered one of the best small forwards of all time, Pippen was named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team eight consecutive times and the All-NBA First Team three times. He was a seven-time NBA All-Star and was the NBA All-Star Game MVP in 1994. He was named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History during the 1996–97 season, and is one of four players to have his jersey retired by the Chicago Bulls (the others being Jerry Sloan, Bob Love, and Michael Jordan). He played a key role on both the 1992 Chicago Bulls Championship team and the 1996 Chicago Bulls Championship team which were selected as two of the Top 10 Teams in NBA History. His biography on the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame's website states, "The multidimensional Pippen ran the court like a point guard, attacked the boards like a power forward, and swished the nets like a shooting guard." During his 17-year career, he played 12 seasons with the Bulls, one with the Houston Rockets and four with the Portland Trail Blazers, making the postseason sixteen straight times.

Pippen is also the only player to have won an NBA title and Olympic gold medal in the same year twice (1992, 1996)......

Pippen is a two-time inductee into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame (for his individual career, and as a member of the "Dream Team"), being inducted for both on August 13, 2010. On November 8, 2005, the Chicago Bulls retired his number #33, while his college, University of Central Arkansas, retired his number #33 on January 21, 2010 as well.

@ralster "But in 87, was also in a deep unimagineable void, as the girl I really liked, broke my heart majorly...... I sure wish I had bball to watch back then."

Wow, we have a bit in common on that score. Luckily, BB was my saving grace, but being in DC before the internet (and before ESPN took Big 8 games national) meant I lived for ESPNSC highlights at best and the USA Today sports section as a daily devotion.

Bragg is not a starter, how can he be the difference between what KU will do in March?

Well, not to project too much, but let's not forget that Sherron's steal, 3 ptr, and final assist in the last 2 minutes made all the difference to our tourney outcome in '08. Of course, that was in April! And non-starter Cole may have taken us to the final.

Sometimes a highly reliable 6th man is the key to a team's success. Sherron played more minutes in many games that year than many starters over the years.

@Crimsonorblue22 Very true. Yet, we have been informed of her religion. Isn't that oddly irrelevant yet highly manipulative as the campus mobs up to protect the athlete?

Just too funny..... • Dec 12, 2016 05:43 PM

@approxinfinity A brilliant post. I might just add that a few of the mass shootings have involved people who were dressed all in black. We have no idea if the reporting student could see insignia.

I also think that the prof is not being given any credit for resolving it with a simple phone call, which supports the policy-check story. Had he been panicky, as the overwrought reactionaries are charging he was, I think the situation would have escalated and the campus police would have shown up to question our offended SWAT officer.

Much ado about nothing caused by a hyper-sensitive guy who is seeing political motivations even in a situation where his out-of-the ordinary behavior created the initial questions.

Just too funny..... • Dec 12, 2016 02:18 PM

@approxinfinity The would-be reporters of what I call "alt-media" (both left and right) think it is news to report that "someone has alleged..." or "[some social media site] is reporting that..." with absolutely no independent inquiry into the underlying facts. Reporting the existence of a rumor as fact, thus justifying spreading the rumor.

Unfortunately it is kind of like what people here are doing in spreading lots of rumors from campus scuttlebutt about the woman in the Bragg incident. When his arrest occurred, we saw many cautions about letting the process work rather than condemning him. There has been a marked lack of willingness to let the system play out when it has come to condemning her.

Thoughts on todays game • Dec 12, 2016 12:58 PM

@BeddieKU23 Udoka might have also spent a little time in HS learning (besides the entire game of BB) his new country and culture, so he might not have had all that much time to work on free throws!
Edit: apparently he made 90 out of 221 in HS. Shaq 2.0?

Cliff, Wayne, Perry • Dec 12, 2016 12:46 PM

@BeddieKU23 4 pts, 4 rebs in 9 minutes will get him a lot more looks over time. Certainly beats his DNP stats from earlier.

Get a rep as a reliable sub and you will get your chances.
