@Barney Our two sons are in Hawaii--Maui & Oahu. Going out in January for 2 weeks. Can't wait!
@Barney I was hoping the flaw in my joke would not be so transparent....
@wrwlumpy I didn’t know it was a volcano, but I assume it is because I first saw photos of DH only from ground level before the dawn of powered manned flight.
@wissoxfan83 As my teenage stepson said, "Whoa, cowboy!" A clear misunderstanding (oxymoron?) has occurred here!
Reading the posts, I don’t think the extension about how good Calbert was could possibly be fairly interpreted as a shot at you. I have often seen something someone has written about some player in general terms (like your "very good"), found my interest piqued, and looked it up--and sometimes, as here, found out some amazing or surprising information that had been forgotten.
Had the post been written like this, would you have taken it personally? "Wow! Just looked up Calbert's career and he was more than just pretty good, he was crazy good in college--etc etc etc."
In other words, I see the post by @JayHawkFanToo as simply being a more specific rendition of facts that underlay the general praise in your post. He didn't flame, criticize, or mention anything negative about your post. You reacted as if he said, "Petty good? Try again, dunderhead--the guy was a 3-time AA, etc."
Just my two cents as an unpaid ref. I only am writing all this because, with the beginning of the season here, more people will likely start taking comments personally. If we can avoid it, maybe we can avoid some of the divisiveness of the deleted months.
@jayballer54 I bet the coaches wanted the refs to call it very tight to reinforce what they are trying to teach these kids. Especially the part about "Move your feet on defense, don't just reach!", which was violated by KU many times....
Edit: Just read the game chat and saw that a couple people made this point.
@KUSTEVE Must differ by location or wifi hookup. My ESPN3 was perfect, no audio skips, all in HD w/o having to wait for any buffering.
@Crimsonorblue22 No. Because it is stupid.
@brooksmd But, just think: In a few years the Black Sox will celebrate a centennial anniversary that no other fan base has to endure! The Cubs at least when they lost were still trying when they lost--they didn't throw it!
@drgnslayr Can the Rats come up with an appropriate marketing slogan for his shoes? And are they orthopedic shoes? Separate line of orthotics?
@kjayhawks The ESPN app looks for the service provider. In your home wifi (I presume) it has to go through your television or cable provider or satellite internet if you have it. Your home provider has a contract with ESPN that results in the blackout because the provider blocks it in certain areas. Your phone network provider apparently doesn't.
In my case, I get everything because we are far away from blackout areas, but I still sign in to TW on the ESPN app.
Is the game available on the app after it is over, or is the blackout permanent?
@kjayhawks When we moved to KC in the mid-60s, I thought it was a cowboy/Indians frontier town. I was 10.
In 1973, I was a senior at Shawnee Mission East. My Latin teacher was a new arrival who grew up in and had never been outside of NYC. Never had a car, etc. He told us he came to the airport and asked where he could catch a bus to the Indian Mission. No Wikipedia then!
@JayHawkFanToo What I like is how often, when someone finds out I'm from Kansas, they will ask, "Oh, do you know . . . ?" as if there are about 150 of us!

did Wilt hold a press Conference when he turned pro?
He didn't have to hold one. He was the first nationally recruited player with over 200 schools trying to get him. It was major news everywhere when he decided to go to KU.
Lew Alcindor did have a press conference a few years later. 80 reporters showed up.

You probably forgot to add the FU!
@kjayhawks I am so old we had chariots, but had to pull them ourselves....
Actually, I was wondering what you do (other than KUBuckets of course) in your town of 700? Farmer? That is something I had relatives who did it, but I can't imagine myself ever working that hard! I have thought about the advantages of small town life, but never could see us leaving small city comforts. I was fortunate not to grow up poor, and lucky beyond belief to have had parents and grandparents who managed to overcome debilitating illnesses and unemployment to get out of poverty themselves. If you have kids, your experiences should give them a great perspective on appreciating what they have in life thanks to you, as my parents' experiences did for me.
@kjayhawks "When I was a kid...." Ah, yes, gettin' us old farts started.... I seem to remember radio only for 90 % of the games. Before that, town criers.... No cars, too, and we had to walk to school (uphill both ways, of course) with burlap wrapped around our feet through 6 feet of snow... Eating crickets on good days.... Burning sod off the roof for heat.... But (and much more scary no doubt to the young uns) no smart phones, or cell phones, or even portable phones. Had a party line, which did not mean a network for event planning....
@jayballer54 "JUMPIN GEE HOSSA FATS"
How is the recovery going? Careful with the jumping thing!
@JayHawkFanToo Voting for the Lessor of Two Weevils has always seemed troublesome to me, and a failure of the electoral process.
Why would people vote for someone who rents out a couple of crop destroying bugs?
:smirk:
@jaybate-1.0 I am not sure your campaign has the correct candidate. Although I have often enjoyed @Red_Rooster's posts, they are rather infrequent, so he does not have many chances to pick up votes.
However, he does vote quite often and so in one sense certainly wins in "total votes" in that respect, so you might have something!
@Statmachine Thanks for the heads up for those of us who don't follow SI closely anymore. But, unfortunately, that one didn't work. This might:

@Lulufulu Tarkanian?
@KUSTEVE I predict we will lose only 4 games. I will be happy if we win more, and will find a way to be happy even if we lose more. And being able to be happy despite losses will drive some people nuts. Ironically, joining me in that condition.
@approxinfinity Well, one good thing is I am sure many of us are looking at our own neglected backups.... Get well, BTW. We need you!
@approxinfinity You know, you could just do this on purpose every year or so. We might all think we are in a Groundhog Day cycle when we wake up! And maybe in one of the iterations we break through like Bill Murray finally did, and two of Frank's or Waynes's or Perry's shots go in!
In all seriousness, thank you for working on all of this so hard all the time. For a free site with so much to offer, we are indeed a lucky group of members.
We can survive a glitch now and then. It would be much harder to not have Buckets!

Wel…that explains the thousands of fake members we had.
Especially all those names with no vowels.
Or maybe the fake ones were set up by Wells Fargo.
@kjayhawks The trophy case.
@JayHawkFanToo Well, actually the whole damned country has entered the Twilight Zone!
Ever have a really really weird dream, and then woke up to discover that the dream was more normal than the world to which you awoke?
I had been feeling so sorry for the million people still without power after Saturday's brush with Hurricane Matthew. But maybe they are the lucky ones!
@JayHawkFanToo Russian hackers.
@approxinfinity Thank you! I am back! The clone is gone! But I can't seem to remember anything......
