@RockChalkinTexas Is your company hiring?

@jaybate 1.0 Most of the time, I'm happy with me. Right then, I wished I were you.

I've never wanted to play another team so badly. Ever. I pray we get the opportunity and I hope that 150-95 drubbing we put on Kentucky a while back looks like a buzzer beater game compared to what we do to the Shockers.

The same Shockers who, by the way, have played the 87th toughest schedule in the country. Whoo.

@approxinfinity - totally unrelated, but in different thread you had edited another poster's comments and changed one word to MANBITS.

I laughed so hard MY manbits hurt. I'm not familiar with that terminology, but it's funny! (Seriously though, had the original poster used terminology like that, we'd be laughing with him instead of condemning him)

@Blown - I obviously don't know the circumstances of your tragedy, but I'm glad that you are doing well now.

I heard some outstanding advice on a talk show last night - " Turn your tests into testimonies and your messes into messages ".

Maybe that was you....

Message of The Day Quotes • Jan 16, 2014 08:03 PM

@dylans I like your post, but little Travis has it all wrong. The best player to ever play at Kansas is Wilt.

@jaybate 1.0 You had me at "Nuleaf is excused from reading this one." Very crafty move, sir.

Now my focus changes - I am giving up NOT reading long jaybate 1.0 posts for basketball lent.

Scott Drew, meet Tubby Smith. • Jan 16, 2014 07:55 PM

@wrwlumpy - Speaking of half empty arenas, did anyone see the ....1/4th empy Gallagher-Iba arena game last night? I don't know why it still gets me, but it does. The ninth ranked team in the nation, playing at home and there are HUNDREDS, if not thousands of empty seats.

I truly hope our Jayhawks players and coaches know what a special place Allen Field House is and how great our fans are.

@Blown - I lean towards the superstitious side, but for the love of all that is good - DON'T pass up this game. Nothing you say, think or do is going to change the outcome of the game. Don't deprive you and your family (friends) of this incredible experience.

Although, if we're behind at halftime, you can leave and watch the game at one of the local bars.

Is the OSU game a "trap game?" • Jan 15, 2014 04:44 PM

@drgnslayr It's theoretically possible. But if we can't get jacked up for "Back-Flip Marcus", at home, we've got bigger problems than any of us have thought of. I hope we see the same (or better!) effort we've seen the past few games. Diving for loose balls, some emotion after good plays. We sure need to commit fewer turnovers and focus at the FT line.

@drgnslayr I didn't see that, but I did watch the Kitties beat Oooooook-lahoma. Since both teams couldn't lose, and we just put a 26 pt drubbing on the k-state, I was glad to see OU lose.

I wonder as I wander..... • Jan 15, 2014 03:04 PM

@jaybate 1.0 lol - you don't have to shorten up anything for me jay, but since you did - thank you! And I wholeheartedly agree with you.

I wonder as I wander..... • Jan 15, 2014 02:23 PM

@wrwlumpy - Love Shack Baby.....

I wonder as I wander..... • Jan 14, 2014 09:44 PM

@JayHawkFanToo Just to clear things up, I said " with the players we have now " and I believe Ben left after his "freshman" year, even though he had been on campus for two years.

I wonder as I wander..... • Jan 14, 2014 09:15 PM

I'd be interested to hear everyone's ideas about what this team would look like, with the players we have now AND a sophomore Ben McLemore.

?

@iowajayhawk2005 - Dang it, man - that was a good one!

@wissoxfan83 Dude, I was with you until the Kansas football thing. It's not evil, just really bad.....

@ParisHawk I don't know who in the wide, wide world of sports is designing our last couple of uniforms, but they must be blind.

I'm gonna throw a t-shirt out in my backyard and let my dogs design the next jersey for us.

Having said that, they can wear pink burlap tutus for all I care, as long as they keep on winning.

OSU • Jan 14, 2014 03:03 PM

@Kip_McSmithers - I hope Coach Self plays this non-stop all week long and then show it on the scoreboard just before tip-off.

My top ten list of big, fat lies:

10) Any boss anywhere: " Our people are our greatest resource. "

9) Johnson's: " No tears shampoo. "

8 ) 50%(+) people who marry: " ...for better, for worse. For richer for poorer....."

7) LJW: " Google questions will change nothing about our site."

6) Any weatherperson: " Looks like we should get a trace to 1" of snow."

5) Bill Clinton: " I did NOT have sexual relations with that woman. "

4) Richard M Nixon: " I am NOT a crook. "

3) nuleafjhawk: " I always root for other Big 12 teams when they're not playing KU"

2) Roy Williams: " I don't give a SH*T about North Carolina."

1) The Mayor/Citizen Kane: " It's a horrible sprain, there's no way he / I can play against Kansas."

ISU • Jan 13, 2014 04:01 PM

@ParisHawk The good news for us - we can do without Embiid (gasp!) better than they can do without Kane. Bring out the gloves.

ISU • Jan 13, 2014 04:00 PM

@RockChalkinTexas To answer your question, YES, he is that dumb. Maybe dumb isn't the best way to say it, but he want to beat us so badly it about makes him wee-wee in his panties.

Yes, that's a much more mature way of stating it.

ISU • Jan 12, 2014 02:13 PM

@jaybate 1.0 " I wouldn't put it past The Mayor to tell Kane to fib about how bad his ankle is."

Interesting. Because that's exactly what I thought when it happened. Maybe I watch too many spy movies or something, but when he went down, the first thing I thought was " Bull-puckey, he's setting us up for Monday night ".

P.S. - The Mayor might want to meet with his city commissioners, because they looked pretty stupid in the last couple minutes of the Oklahoma game.

@Lulufulu85 Looks as though that tough non-conference schedule is starting to pay dividends. That, and as we alluded to several days ago, I think they're starting to " get it ". I absolutely could not be happier to see guys diving on the floor and going after loose balls.

While I was glad to see ISU get beat today ( You GO Lonnie Kruger! ), I was not happy to see that Kane got hurt. When we beat them Monday, the whole state of Iowa will be moaning and crying that we only won because their star player was hurt.

Fran Fraschilla

HATE, HATE, HATE those ugly frickin jerseys. I hope they use them every game from now on.

I love being able to say " Black, you STIIIIIIIINK" and " Black, AWESOME PLAY DUDE !" within a 10 second span.

Apparently we HAVE been coddling Andrew Wiggins too much. We gave him a lot of grief here in the past few days and he responded pretty well !
Hey Andrew - I fart in your general direction. Your mother is a hamster and your father smells of elderberries.

There - that ought to get him ready for Monday night.

I've got a crush on Tarik Black • Jan 10, 2014 05:55 PM

@Blown Sorry, I don't. But no one's ever accused me of having a laser sharp memory.....

I've got a crush on Tarik Black • Jan 10, 2014 05:53 PM

@Blown lol - I don't know who that is. Honestly I can't even remember what my old name was ( mental block maybe? ). It was back when I first joined Kusports.com. My attitude stunk.

Cindy Self 1, Bill Self 0 • Jan 10, 2014 05:50 PM

@globaljaybird Thanks so much for the info - I will DEFINITELY check these guys out. I have no problem watching Christian comedians (although I really didn't know there were any!), most of the music I listen to is Christian. I feel like I have to listen to that after being on this site all day. LOL - I'm joking - I LOVE this site!!

OU Reset: Questions • Jan 10, 2014 05:48 PM

@FarSideHawk If this whole team would just go and play and stop thinking we would shock the whole country. There's SO dang much talent on this team and it's going to be unleashed one of these days. Hopefully, sooner than later.

I've got a crush on Tarik Black • Jan 10, 2014 05:46 PM

@iowajayhawk2005 Nah, don't change your name. Although, I did change mine two or three years ago. I wasn't as smart as you, but I think we had similar attitudes. I just decided it was more fun for me to lighten up and get along with (most) everyone. We're all different, but I personally enjoy a laugh and some good sarcasm.

I've got a crush on Tarik Black • Jan 10, 2014 05:00 PM

@iowajayhawk2005

"Classic pot calling the kettle black - love hypocrisy jokes."

"In all seriousness though - he is my most despised player since JR Giddens and here's why: First and foremost his attitude."

Lol - you are one funny guy.....

Cindy Self 1, Bill Self 0 • Jan 10, 2014 12:12 PM

@approxinfinity - Thanks for saying what I couldn't express without using a bunch of four letter words....

Seriously, we're all grown ups ( I guess ), and I don't mind an occasional "donkey" or "H E double hockey sticks" reference once in a while, if it's used in context, but profanity and name calling for no other purpose than to evoke a response is just not necessary.

I like humor and comedy and it's probably not a coincidence that two of my favorite comedians are Brian Regan and Sinbad. They are both hilarious (IMO) and rarely use profanity. @globaljaybird 's dad hit the nail on the head, anyone can be funny tossing around curse words - they just sound funny - but it takes a little more thought process to make people laugh without using them.

@JayHawkFanToo - " Prima Donna Ball Hog " - that's EXACTLY what he needs to be. On the court. He can be all shy and cuddly and sweet off the court.

PERRY ELLIS SMILED !!! • Jan 09, 2014 07:13 PM

@iowajayhawk2005 - I've liked Bilas's commentary until this year. He seems extraordinarily condescending towards Bill Self and KU in general.

Conversations from last night's games:

Dave FLemming: " Wow, Jay, Wayne Selden is on fire tonight! "

JayB : " Wayne Selden maybe could possibly be a good player someday, under the right circumstances. He'll never be a threat to shoot the 3 pointer - look how far back he brings his arms over his head. That's playground ball right there. "

DaveF: " Kansas is playing some hard nosed ball right now! Look at Perry Ellis, Joel EMbiid and Wayne Selden ALL diving for that ball. "

JayB: "It is indeed nice to see some hustle from these Jayhawks. Although, rather than diving on that ball and wasting a precious timeout, Selden should have bent over, put his left leg adjacent to his body, thrown his left arm up over his body in some sort of ballerina formation, then when the ball was 1/32" from going out of bounds, he could have grabbed it with his right hand, swung the ball around his back and through his legs and hit Frank Mason for an alley-oop. I know he's young, but he's going to have to learn these things if he wants to help this team."

DaveF: " These Jayhawks are gassed ! They've played their hearts out here at Lloyd Noble Arena and should be very proud of themselves. Jay, look how every single player on the bench is drinking water right now!!"

JayB: " That's one of the big problems with this year's Jayhawks - they don't know how to hydrate properly. You'd think with all the health and nutrition facilities in the Lawrence and Greater Kansas City area, that someone, somewhere would have taught them how to drink properly. For maximum hydration it should be two small sips - THEN a gulp. Not the other way around. I can't believe that someone on this staff of great basketball minds hasn't taught them that yet. But they ARE young. "

** Note - not actual ESPN2 conversations between DF and JB - but it's not that far out of the realm of possibility **

PERRY ELLIS SMILED !!! • Jan 09, 2014 04:34 PM

@wissoxfan83 - lol. Well, I've been married 35 years this June, been together 39 total, and we hang out together a lot, so I guess she provides me some material. She likes KU and will watch and go to games with me, but she's not a fanatic like most of us.

As long as she tolerates my antics, I guess I'll keep her around. (She can look at anything I write, except stuff like this)

No honey - I'm playing Bejeweled, I'm not on kubuckets right now.....

Conner Frankamp Hyperbole • Jan 09, 2014 12:39 PM

I'd like to see Connor out there more frequently. I'm really baffled that he's having so much trouble knocking down the three's because I KNOW he can flat out shoot. But if he could knock down 3 or 4 in a row, watch out. I like what I see when he's on the court. He looks determined, he's a hard worker and a smart kid and when he gets a little playing time I think he'll be a big factor for us.

PERRY ELLIS SMILED !!! • Jan 09, 2014 12:34 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 - One strike against him - the HYPE. The only man on earth that could have lived up to that kind of hype was Wilt.

Having said that, I'm as disappointed in him as any player since - oh heck, you know the two players I'm going to name so I won't say it. I mean, if he had any other name besides Andrew Wiggins, we'd be drooling over this kid. But, in my opinion, he has played no where near his potential and that's why we're all wondering what's going on with him.

I hope Perry starts getting some of the credit he deserves.

PERRY ELLIS SMILED !!! • Jan 09, 2014 02:21 AM

I'm not just talking about the kind of little grin that you see when you pass gas in a crowd, it was a REAL smile !

Other signs of life in Crimson and Blue:

After 13 1/2+ games, I finally saw what I was looking for in this team. At @ the 6:10 mark of the second half - Ellis, Embiid an Selden ALL diving (not just frolicking) after a loose ball. I literally jumped off the couch (scared the CRAP out of my wife) and hollered.

Selden had a breakout offensive game.

SOOOO glad to see Connor Frankamp get some quality minutes. He made a couple of nice shots, got a couple of rebounds and most importantly, didn't throw the ball away. I thought he played extremely well in a very important game on the road.

I know all of our problems are not solved yet, but I feel a whole lot better than I did four days ago.

BTW - I'm * OVER * Jay Bilas. Listening to Jay Bilas is like kissing your sister. You only enjoy it if you're from Missouri.

Does KU win the Big 12 • Jan 08, 2014 09:35 PM

Right now I vote NO.

We peaked with the Duke game and nosedived quickly after. We've made tiny, almost indiscernible improvements in the past few games. Or have we? Normally, 13 games into the season we have a pretty good feel for who we are. I don't think Coach Self even knows who we are yet. I hope we see some gigantic strides tonight.

Did Bill Self go too far? • Jan 07, 2014 12:53 PM

@DoubleDD - Thanks for your response. You're right, they have made some good (almost) comebacks. They should have never let themselves get down that far, but they have made it close in all of their losses so far.

There's just something missing with these guys though. I tend to use the hyperbole route, out of frustration, but in my opinion they really are lacking in emotion and drive. Nothing I can prove of course, it's just how they look on my television. It's a fairly decent TV too.....

@Crimsonorblue22 - I had no idea! I'm glad he's back in the area and hope his wife is better.

Post-game Roundup: Kansas vs SDSU • Jan 06, 2014 10:12 PM

@JayHawkFanToo - Oh well, yeah. If you want to throw logic and common sense into the loop, then everything seems about right.

I know that a lot of teams would be pretty happy with 9-4 (they're called losers - lol) and that we should be patient. I'm still confident that Coach will get this turned around, but the thing that gripes my butt the most is the seeming lack of emotion on our player's parts. I hope I'm wrong, but it sure looks like they just don't care.

Does KU win the Big 12 • Jan 06, 2014 09:21 PM

Right now they have as good a chance to win it in football as they do basketball.

Post-game Roundup: Kansas vs SDSU • Jan 06, 2014 03:22 PM

@truehawk93 - Isn't that about the same faces they've had all season long? I've never seen a more emotionless team in my whole life. It just bugs the crap out of me. I love to win, but OMG I HATE to lose. I don't like moral victories, I don't like learning anything from losses. I want to win. I don't want to lose.

I'd give anything to see one of these guys get pissed and get a technical once in a while over something that they were really passionate about. I'd love to see them bawl their eyes out after giving away a 7 year winning streak against non conference opponents. I'd do a backflip (if I could) to see somebody get jacked over an alley oop and do their own backflip. A fist pump. A grimace. A smile. Anything but these &^%$^* expressionless robot faces I've been seeing.

Sorry, but I do feel a little better now.

@Crimsonorblue22 - Man, I toned it WAY down from what I was really feeling and thinking. Sorry to be a D-bag, but I honestly feel that's a pretty accurate statement. He's going to go to the NBA next year and - if he plays like he's playing now - we won't hear anything about him for a long time other than " Whatever happened to the kid from KU that was supposed to be the next ( insert name here)? "

Did Bill Self go too far? • Jan 06, 2014 12:45 PM

@DoubleDD - Agreed that this is a crazy non conference schedule, and as much as I hate to see the losses, it's got to help them in February and March. That's the theory anyway.

The only thing I don't agree with is the whole " heart " thing. Personally, other than one or two guys, I see a bunch of them looking like they'd just as soon be somewhere else.

Anywhere else.

Post-game Roundup: Kansas vs SDSU • Jan 06, 2014 01:38 AM

Blame it on me. Blame the whole damn weekend on me.

I told my wife that even the Chiefs couldn't blow a 38-10 lead in the 3rd quarter.

I told my wife that Kansas had won 68 straight non-conference games and wasn't about to start a new streak today.

I told my wife that " trace to 1" of snow" means that I won't have to shovel the driveway. I shoveled the damn thing FOUR times last night so she could get to work this morning.

I think I need to quit talking to my wife.
