@Crimsonorblue22 Not surprised to hear that.
In fairness. lots of NFL players (and pros and other sports as well) do plenty of charity work.
Something to think about the next time we rant about "today's spoiled athletes".

I've noticed how big the injury news is on a national scale. Even out here on the coast all the local TV/radio sportscasters (usually a pretty pariochial bunch) had it as one of their top stories.
Can't recall a pro athlete from Kansas City with this much national clout since George Brett.

On a side note how the heck does John Elway still have a job? The Chiefs had 5 starters out, 2 defensive subs and Mahomes goes down early. They still get smoked at home. That's the most embarrassing loss in Denver history at home and overall outside of the Seahawks in the superbowl.
They showed a graphic of all the QBs drafted under Elway. Not exactly a stellar bunch.
Nice to see the defense show up. Makes me feel a little better in case Mahomes is down for more than a couple of weeks.
So much for the razzle-dazzle !
Nice drive. They've already exceeded my expectations. Just keep the mistakes to a minimum, and we can hang with them.
Noticed that the Iowa State-Iowa game in Ames is in its second weather delay. Seems to be a lot more of them across the country so far this year.
Last weekend Washington had a 7:30 pm start, played five minutes, then had to wait 2 1/2 hours to restart. Over 200 lightning strikes in the Seattle metro. Game didn't wrap up until 1:30 am.
Is it just a run of unusually bad weather, or are the powers-that-be just more cautious than in the past?
...oops. At least I can spend a day on campus next week and bask in the winning feeling for awhile.
And as luck would have it, I'm flying back to KC next week. Can't make the WVU game due to family stuff, but at least I
And how about that Defense! Pitched a second-half shut out!
So proud of our guys.
And in the words of the immortal Dandy Don Meredith:
"TURN OUT THE LAAGHTS, THE PARTY'S O-VUR"
Time for a nice, long, clock-devouring drive...
@Crimsonorblue22 Watching the game on First Row Sports.
Once you get past the pop-up ads, it's not too bad. Cheaper than ESPN+ anyway.
Sounds like a cliche, I know, but...
CONFIDENCE IS CONTAGIOUS
RAZ-ZLE DAZ-ZLE!
@kjayhawks I. AM. STUNNED.
Hey, when a full moon is out, it can even turn Carter Stanley into a decent QB. (For a half anyway.)
Fingers crossed.
Again, I'm hoping for the best. I liken it to being the successor to an iconic coach.
Gene Bartow had the unenviable task of succeeding John Wooden at UCLA. Bill Guthridge following Dean Smith. Mike Davis succeeding Bobby Knight. Brian Mahoney after Lou Carnesecca.
Not easy being "the guy after the guy" (/gal).
@KUSTEVE My point is more along the lines of the decisions made by the owners/GMs through the years.
Google "Worst-run NBA franchises" and you'll see what I mean.
Yeah, I know...you can't blame Nijem's few years with the the Kings for their decades of futility.
But it gives you pause when the guys who picked the players, coaches, and yes, staff, consistently have shown that they have trouble picking the right personnel.
I'd be a little more comfortable with this pick if it weren't for the sorry history of the Kings franchise. No playoff berths since 2006, only one NBA title (in 1951 as the Rochester Royals). The years in Kansas City (-Omaha) and Cincinnati were mostly fruitless, save the early '60s when they had Oscar Robertson and Jerry Lucas...unfortunately they were in the same division as the Celtics dynasty.
And yes, they did improve last season, but still finished with a losing record, so I just have to wait and see.
Hoping for the best, but color me skeptical.
No Coasting next week! (Pun intended.)
EXHALE
This might be one to bet the under. I'm seeing the total points on some sites in the low 50s. I'm gonna say 27-20, KU.
Baby steps.
The longest MLB legacy I can remember is the Boone family.
The grandpa, Ray Boone, played for a bunch of teams in the 1950s (most notably Cleveland & Detroit, plus a half-season stop with the Kansas City A's along the way). Supposedly he was a descendant of Daniel Boone.
His son Bob Boone was a catcher in the 70s and 80s. He finished his playing career with the Royals before later becoming a manager for KC and Cincinnati.
Grandsons Bret and Aaron both played in the 1900s and 2000s. Aaron, of course, is now managing the Yankees. All four of the Boones made it to the All Star Game.
Nor sure if there are any other Boone prospects in the next generation.
Love hearing all the memories about Max from everyone on this board.
As a kid in the Sixties, Max's voice was my introduction to the world of Jayhawk basketball and its long tradition. I think of him and Don Fambrough as the two KU "lifers" that I grew up with. Another KU legend gone, but one never to be forgotten.
Rest in peace Max.
@Kcmatt7 So does this mean Les Miles can keep doing Dos Equis commercials?
Happy 90th Birthday to Coach Ted Owens, who took KU to two Final Fours in the 1970s.

This headline from today's Seattle Times, as the Mariners get ready to host the Royals:
"Could The Mariners Set A Low Attendance Mark This Week?"
Interesting matchup nonetheless. The Royals could actually pull off a sweep.
The M's were one of the top offensive teams in the league until they traded away two of their top three home run hitters in the past few days for "prospects" and some cash.
The bullpen is godawful and the defense is even worse. They lead the majors in errors...and it's not even close.
Most Seattle fans realized this was going to be a rebuilding year, but it's gotten more dismal than expected. After 42 seasons without a World Series and 18 without a playoff appearance, the natives are getting restless, or worse, apathetic.
And as for that headline, well, the M's host the Orioles next. At least they're not Tampa Bay, who can't draw flies at home, even with a good team.
Okay, time for a not-so-humble brag...For what it's worth, I believe I was the first to post about Gary on this board.
From October 2013: "Former KU golfer Gary Woodland lost in a playoff today at the PGA tournament in Malaysia. He’s really stepped up his game lately, with a win, a second-place and a third-place finish in the past few months.
The guy hits the ball a ton and usually leads the tour in driving distance. He needs to work on his short game, though…missed a 10-footer Sunday that would’ve given him the win outright. Still, $750K for second place ain’t chump change!"
YEAH GARY! ROCK CHALK CHAMPION!
Just got home from work and saw the highlights. Can't wait to watch the final round replay.
I gotta admit, I wasn't sure that his short game would hold up through four rounds. Glad I was wrong. Way to go Gary!
@Crimsonorblue22 Good luck to Gary. Hope he can keep it together on Sunday.
Always enjoy watching golf at Pebble Beach. Got to view the 18th hole in person years ago on a drive down the coast. Pulled my car off the road, walked up to a spot behind the green, and took a few pix.
Sucks that I'll miss seeing the final round live though...I've got inventory at work! Aaarrrgh!
Oops, that's "miss at 18".
Personally, I never miss the 19th hole.
Well, it's a one-shot lead going into Sunday. Great short game today, for Gary, except for that short miss at 19.
We'll see if he can handle the pressure tomorrow...Rose, Koepka and a bunch of other guys close on his tail.
Still going strong halfway thru his third round...10 under par, still two strokes ahead of Justin Rose, three up on Koepka.
...to quote Joe Buck, "a proud Kansas Jayhawk"...Gary Woodland.
He drained a long birdie putt to wrap up a round of 65 and give him a two-shot lead after the second round.
Usually his putter is the weakest club in his bag, but he was nailing some long ones today.
Still 36 holes to go, but looking good so far.
Good start for Gary on his second round...two under par on the back nine, with the easier front nine to come.
He's now at 5 under, just two shots off the lead.
High MLB draft picks are no slam dunks (to mix metaphors). Still waiting for the greatness that everybody predicted for Bubba Starling.
Anyway, it isn't like the NBA where one or two guys can turn a franchise around. .Too much of a crap shoot (to mix the metaphors even more).
Nice win by the Royals Thursday night as they played the first MLB game ever in Omaha. 7-3 over Detroit.
ESPN carried the game, played in front of a full house.
As for the TV audience, well...seeing that it was up against the NBA Finals and the finish of Tiger Woods' round at the US Open, you can draw your own conclusions as to how much of America was tuned in. Oh well, a win's a win.
Kind of fitting that the trophy goes to Ontario, Doc Naismith's home province.
Been watching the coverage on CBC Television. Pretty much a nationwide celebration. Lately even the Stanley Cup playoffs took a back seat to the Raptors, no small feat in a hockey-mad country. .
Good for them. (Could do without Drake though.)
Back to 3 under after a bogey at the 9th.
The US Open website has highlight clips from Gary's round (and others).
Oops..pardon my typos.
"...by going after:.."...."one-and-done."
Over the next few years you're going to see the college basketball equivalent of Darwinism when it comes to recruiting. The successful schools will be the ones who can adapt to a changing landscape, what with the looming elimination of one-and-done. Some will do it be going after the second level guys. Even the blue bloods (the smart ones, anyway) will see that the big shiny name on the faceplate doesn't mean as much these days to top HS players who have multiple options.
I still have reservations about a kid playing overseas for a year as opposed to one-and-one. I don't see the competitive strength anywhere near that of high-level D1 conferences. Of course than can depend on the league too...not to mention the player.
Great news, but wasn't the timing curious on the NCAA announcement?
When an organization/company/politician wants to make a statement that draws the least media attention, they'll announce it on a Friday...especially on a Friday before a holiday weekend. Keeps too many folks from asking questions. ("Here's the verdict...now we're outta here!")
Was just thrown for a bit of a loop...I turned on the TV to watch the Stanley Cup playoffs on CBC Hockey Night In Canada, and the first face I see is Quentin Grimes!
Didn't realize he has a half-brother who plays for Winnipeg. The network was doing a feature on the two. If Q makes it in the league (a BIG if in my book), they'd be the first pair of brothers to play in the NHL and NBA.
I'm waiting for Brigham Young to win the national title some year, so they can play "One Shining Mormon"...
G'night everybody, and don't forget to tip your waiters !
Wonder what that guy who placed that $1500 bet on Tech at 200-to-1 is thinking. He could have cashed it in for $150k. Instead, he held out for the whole $300,000.
Those folks in Vegas must be taking a real deep breath right now...
Didn't look like enough to overturn. No change in the direction of the ball spin.
OT
Well, neutral fans (and the network suits) can't complain too much...they got a nail-biter down the stretch.
I think a lot of us have gotten "Curried."
We've been mesmerized by the three and the slam so much that we forget there are other ways to win the game.
