Kansas vs West Virginia • Jan 13, 2016 03:06 AM

I just realized WVU ended the game, with a few seconds left, up by 9-10 pts, and DUNKED the ball? To end the game? If that were Bill Self, he would've had our players dribble out for the win. Remember the EJ dunk in Ames? He was crucified.

I'm sick of being the nice kid on the block and getting blackeyes without punching back. Self needs to stop being nice and start getting some meanness in these guys. But hey, we're KU? We give standing ovations to great players and apologies for being the big bully. I guess it's not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game?

Kansas vs West Virginia • Jan 13, 2016 02:48 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 I don't know anymore. He's just not where he should be at this point. I hope for the best and maybe soon.

Kansas vs West Virginia • Jan 13, 2016 02:46 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 I also agree with BG. I don't understand his talent. I'm at a loss right now.

Kansas vs West Virginia • Jan 13, 2016 02:45 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 Lucas is a 5th year SENIOR and he's 6-10. I love the kid and want the best, but this kid needs to breakout NOW. He's not the most athletic and he does give us some fundamentals, but it may not be enough to win critical games. His size is a joke at this point. He's got to get mean and physical or he's going to be an epic failure.

Kansas vs West Virginia • Jan 13, 2016 02:42 AM

I hope this was a great big Charlie Foxtrot. If not, we are in for a nasty game with UK.

Kansas vs West Virginia • Jan 13, 2016 02:36 AM

@cragarhawk I hate to agree and I was one of Lucas' biggest supporters for most of his time at KU. I was waiting for him to blow up and become one of the best 5th yr seniors in D1 ball. I was wrong. He's soft and doesn't play big at all. He's a 6-10 waste of space at this point. I don't know what he's doing, but he hasn't done much.

He still has a whole season ahead and can prove me wrong though. I hope he proves me wrong.

Kansas vs West Virginia • Jan 13, 2016 02:33 AM

Why is that Korean gold looking a little useless right now? I'm not so sure that may have hurt the team. This team has played A LOT of bball.

Kansas vs West Virginia • Jan 13, 2016 02:27 AM

@DinarHawk Maybe this will be our ugly loss of the year?

Kansas vs West Virginia • Jan 13, 2016 02:23 AM

It's an out house and it's all Huggy's big game plan to psyche KU off the court. It apparently worked. Well, they get to come to our house now. Maybe the guys will decide to play and take this team seriously. Every single B12 team is going to punch them in the mouth and gut every single game.

Where are the Twins when you need them? It makes me appreciate their mean streaks.

Kansas vs West Virginia • Jan 13, 2016 02:19 AM

@jaybate-1.0 Always have and always will with Huggie at the controls.

Kansas vs West Virginia • Jan 13, 2016 02:18 AM

They deserve to storm. Let them storm. I want the guys to feel this agony and remember it all the way to the tourney.

Kansas vs West Virginia • Jan 13, 2016 02:13 AM

Let's see what was going on tonight. I'm sure Self will announce that someone was playing either sick or gimped, maybe Frank? It appears Self is beginning to look like one of the worst game prep coaches in D1 bball. He just can't make enough adjustments to turn a losing game into a winner.

KU just got EXPOSED...AGAIN. So much for a #1 ranking. Great game all around guys. I've never seen a loss quite like this one.

Where are all the big mouths that were bashing WVU? Give them credit...they did what they said they would do. KU was not prepared at all. They deserve to lose and they definitely do not deserve the #1 ranking.

Kansas vs West Virginia • Jan 13, 2016 01:17 AM

@BeddieKU23 Lucas is soft. He needs to get big and mean down low. The guy is a 6-10 cream puff.

Kansas vs West Virginia • Jan 13, 2016 01:06 AM

@Bill-Self We're gettin' it on all right. They better pull their heads out and stop playing tight sloppy ball. Huggins has nothing to lose except the game. They play like it too. KU plays tight and sloppy when they get that stupid #1 ranking.

Ok. That was fun. But is KU really #1? • Jan 07, 2016 01:50 AM

@Lulufulu There can be only one #1, #2 and #3. These bleeding hearts that say teams played hard and earned the right to share are stupid. All night Dickie V kept calling for a #1 and #1a. Even if KU lost, they would be #2. This is why the game was so hyped. It determined #1 and #2. BBall is becoming a joke because of losers like Vitale.

Nice Chicago Trib opinion • Jan 06, 2016 02:30 AM

Not a bad article of a former KU player

Thank you Jamari! • Jan 06, 2016 02:17 AM

@chriz JTray played for The Mean Streets of Chicago. This kid is street tough. I picture him on a play ground getting mugged or busted in the mouth, only to rise up and play through his pain. This kid is tops in my defensive book. He won't make any analysts' list, but he is all heart. In fact, if our guys follow his example, we will be entirely unstoppable. The kid is playing with wreckless abandon. He knows this is his last rodeo. He's going to play hard and look back without little to no regrets. Rock on JTray, go for it.

Buddy Hield • Jan 06, 2016 02:15 AM

@BeddieKU23 Why do people have to defend an obviously good player. But let's not get over hyped about his play. Let's see how many times or how consistently he plays this type of game, then I'll jump on the Buddy Hield bandwagon. I'm sure he's a great kid, but he's not the player many are making him. It seems many are saying, ie. Dick Vitale that he's a phenom and it's said so many times that people start believing it. I want to see consistency before I become a believer. I said in another thread, this will be his best game all year, bar none. Mark it down and if he comes out to be the B12 leading scorer and averages 35-40 ppg, I'll give him the respect he deserves.

My evaluation holds true for Selden too. I want to see more consistency from Selden. Right now, they are both ready for the NBA, but if for some odd reason they tank and fail to maintain this play, I won't be too impressed. Heck at this point, the only one that is impressing me all to hell is JTray. If he keeps this aggressive defensive intensity, KU is going to be a defensive threat for every team they play. Opposing players better watch their back, JTray is going to attack the ball every chance he gets. Once again, his motor is super high as it was when he first arrived at KU. Rock Chalk Go JTray...B12 defensive player of the year.

It was an ugly game, but a gut check for KU. I was encouraged. I hope we can win those games that ugly, but win all the same. I really think the MSU game was a kind of prep for this game. Valentine is, in my humble opinion, a better player than Hield. Valentine is a team player and knows when to step it up a notch. This is why MSU has been successful. If Hield watches Valentine, he might become a better player.

BTW...I don't want to face MSU at all. They've been the bane of KU's success in years past. I don't know what it is about Izzo. He is Self's kryptonite.

@jaybate-1.0 Post Hield? Post Buddy Freakin' Hield? Either Hield creates off a screen and makes shots in rhythm or he drives. Buddy Hield is not a post player. He could've posted on my 4' son and wouldn't make one shot. Hield is improved but not post improved. Kruger didn't post Hield, because it would be a huge mistake to post him against anyone.

@jaybate-1.0 If Selden would've stayed on Hield, Selden would've fouled out. This is why Selden came out and Self switched his defensive option on Hield.

@wrwlumpy Yes, yes and yes on Mason, I agree tons with Greenberg on his analysis. Hield was getting really frustrated with Mason. LOVED IT.

@jaybate-1.0 I disagree. I thought with all you said against Mason and for Hield, Mason did a hell of a job on Hield. You might go back and watch Mason against Hield again. Hield didn't get much when Mason played that little man defense. He bothered Hield all night. He got into Hield's head. The only time Hield was able to separate from Mason was when Mason was mugged or cheated. I loved Mason's defense against Hield. He was the best answer last night.

Got a serious question • Jan 06, 2016 01:29 AM

@jayballer54 Yeah...if Selden continues this level of play, he's gone. Which is fine because it's his junior year and he's improved. He's pretty much ready. I hope he continues to have a strong year and enters the draft even stronger.

Got a serious question • Jan 06, 2016 01:28 AM

@Kcmatt7 Bragg will definitely return. He's so green and needs a lot of work. He's a three year project. Diallo is a two year project.

Got a serious question • Jan 06, 2016 01:27 AM

@jayballer54 Hells to the yeah...Diallo definitely comes back. Unless he has a monster third half of the season, which isn't looking to good at this point in time. He's a smart kid and the NBA hype isn't getting to him. He wants to learn too. He knows Bill Self is a good coach to get him into the promised land. If he stays, KU will win a NC. He can increase his stock and resume. Diallo reminds me a lot of Embiid's raw talent that was polished into something special.

Best game I have seen in years • Jan 06, 2016 01:22 AM

@DinarHawk Obviously he had the best offensive game of his life with 46 points. How many were FTs? I'm not saying Hield is a bad player or can't play. He still over plays at times and let's the hype get the best of him. When he learns to let the game come to him, he's going to be REALLY good. He should've dished to his teammates more. I thought Woodard was having a really good game and was letting the game come to him. Cousins came on late. Even Lattin was starting to play better as the game continued. We are lucky it ended the way it did with Mason on the line. Kevin Durant is PURE. He did that almost every game. Hell, I remember when he went ape crap on us and we still beat UT that year. I think Durant dropped some 45 plus points that year at AFH.

My KU player of the game was freakin' JTray. That guy is a beast. I'm so glad we have JTray. I love his blue collar performances.

Best game I have seen in years • Jan 06, 2016 01:05 AM

@nuleafjhawk Vitale and Mussburger got Mason and Selden mixed up all night long. What's worse, they didn't even try to correct themselves. The two are like listening to two old men sitting on a bench and forgetting what they're talking about half the time.

Best game I have seen in years • Jan 06, 2016 01:03 AM

@nuleafjhawk Ellis is good. He played like a warrior. But he does play soft. He is too timid at times and nice. He's got to be mean when he's so close to the rim. He's got to come up strong and dunk the ball more often.

Best game I have seen in years • Jan 06, 2016 01:01 AM

@BeddieKU23 Don't complain about the refs. You sound like OU fans now. I get so tired of fans blaming refs. Hield takes responsibility for his piss poor pass and then says, "he (Mason) was out of bounds." Really? I respected him until he made that last stupid comment. What difference does it make? The pass was deflected in or out of bounds. Hield over played and frankly may have lost the game with the in bound pass and the lose ball dribbling out of control which he did many times. Then fans and Dick Vitale want to hype him into some phenom. Here's a test for OU...take Hield and see how OU responds, like when Selden sat most of the first half. Hield is not a pure shooter. He didn't get squat against Mason. Mason shut him down for the most part. They suckered punched Mason all night long. The ref that called the "T" on Self watched Mason all night and called anything close against Mason, when guarding Hield.

The refs didn't blow this game for OU. OU blew this game. Just like KU almost blew it.

Best game I have seen in years • Jan 06, 2016 12:40 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 Exactly. KU didn't play very well and still won. OU should've beaten them. OU failed to close the deal several times. OU is good, but not that good. I think this was a matter of KU having one of those ugly games and found a way to win.

Best game I have seen in years • Jan 06, 2016 12:37 AM

@DinarHawk It was a great game, but with all due respect, OU always plays up to KU. Durant good? There will never be another Durant-like player. Hield is not and will never match Kevin Durant. UNC and OU two of the best teams? They have one outstanding game and they are two of the best teams? Give it some time. KU is consistently good. OU and UNC have more to prove.

I believe this will be the best game OU plays all year.

No way Mamadou impacts our speed. He's clumsy and slow. Mason and Ellis have to be smart against this guy. We need a lot of seals and hi/low. He can't move the ball too well and we should be able to disrupt his lane work. He can be blocked out and our guys have to remember he can go over the back and will NOT be called based on his size, 7'6. The refs will let him pick the over the back. He will not be called for over the back if he extends his arm over players and picks the ball for rebounds. If Self goes toe to toe in the lane with this guy it's not going to be good. We don't have a good match except "Red" and "Lucas." Diallo and Bragg will have to rely on speed and athleticism to beat this guy. They will need to keep him off balance. We should get him into foul trouble, without creating contact. The refs won't fall for creating contact against him. They will have to keep him off balance and commit fouls with his arms. He has a 8'3 wingspan. But someone mentioned their top three scorers too.

Better to be Under Armour than a Nike whore...Go Badgers....get some

I like Under Armour and would buy their gear before Nike any day.

Texas AD going, going, gone... • Sep 16, 2015 03:39 AM

@RockChalkinTexas Hell, I don't mind being fired for $5.6 mil. The contracts and money these coaches get are insane. Giving people this kind of money when you fire someone is outrageous.

I've got nothing for the fb program. I waited on ManG and he turned the program around. I gave Gill a chance and he failed. I thought maybe Weiss might do something. I can give Beaty some time. Why not? We have nothing to lose at this point.

However, since Perkins is gone, can we just go back to ManG and throw Perkins under the bus at some point? IF Beaty fails after 3-4 years, let's hope SZ can swallow his pride and pony up money that should've been given for ManG's return. You can say what you want about ManG, but he had us in the W column and extremely competitive.

I doubt ManG will give KU a sniff at this point. Thanks LP.

CWS vs Royals - Game 1 • Sep 05, 2015 02:22 AM

Looks like Danks may get a Labor Day weekend shutout.

CWS vs Royals - Game 1 • Sep 05, 2015 02:19 AM

@brooksmd Just one of those games. The bats should rally next game and I expect a win. Maybe Duffy will have a better outing. Then Cueta which his cutter isn't cutting much lately. So, if we can sneak out with at least 1-2 wins this series, it should keep them paced.
I just reviewed the standings and didn't realize the Jays were so close. But a 6 game deficit is difficult to overcome. I don't see KC dropping too many more games. I expect the Jays to drop a few more too.

@brooksmd They just started their Labor Day celebration in the 4th this game.

CWS vs Royals - Game 1 • Sep 05, 2015 02:02 AM

The American league hitting king, Cabrera is 0-4 in this game.

CWS vs Royals - Game 1 • Sep 05, 2015 02:00 AM

They pull Medlen and bring in Guthrie with a 5.52 ERA. So the Royals have conceded this game. Interesting strategy, but apparently they feel this game won't impact their season.

CWS vs Royals - Game 1 • Sep 05, 2015 01:48 AM

Medlen's ERA is 4.88, whoa

CWS vs Royals - Game 1 • Sep 05, 2015 01:47 AM

@brooksmd Afraid this one ended in the 4th for the Royals. It's a series so maybe they'll come back and roll them.

CWS vs Royals - Game 1 • Sep 05, 2015 01:13 AM

Time to pull Medlen, but maybe this game doesn't matter much at this point.

CWS vs Royals - Game 1 • Sep 05, 2015 01:09 AM

Medlen doesn't seem to be too effective on the mound right now. The Sox are hitting him well.

CWS vs Royals - Game 1 • Sep 05, 2015 12:52 AM

@truehawk93 Watching game now...bats need rattled

CWS vs Royals - Game 1 • Sep 05, 2015 12:51 AM
