Mitch Lightfoot = HELL

OK
Ok...I hope you're right. Let's unleash HELL, aka Mitch Lightfoot
(
@Crimsonorblue22 I just saw the Lunardistrator on ESPN. All this couldn't have happened at a more off time. Mason, Graham, Jackson, Svi, Vick, and LL need to step up to the challenge. I'd like to think we have experience. The only variable is Frank's knee. I know and many of you know that Self always down plays injuries. If Frank's knee is not 100% Saturday or the rest of the season, look out. I have that feeling at the end of the season, Self will give one of his revelations that Frank's knee bothered him for the majority of this season. This Saturday is going to be about who is hungry and who is more experienced on a big stage.
I didn't forget about Lightfoot and Coleby either. They must step up and have a breakout game. I'd like to see Lightfoot show his potential and why he was recruited by KU. Bragg is really hurting this team and it pains me to say that because I love the kid.
@HawkChamp They do always have a really nasty game. Let's hope they rebound fairly well and salvage the remainder of the conference with #13.
@joeloveshawks True and it's so early, who knows at this?
@Lulufulu Dang it...I hate to admit it, but you're right. At this point, we will be fairly fortunate at a 2. But we still have a lot of conference to play.
@JayHawkFanToo Dang...I thought with Doke we were a pretty solid 1. Then I thought maybe Bragg would step up, nope. Now we are looking at Coleby and Lightfoot. I want to be totally wrong and hope one or both of these guys prove me completely wrong, please make a believer out of me coming out of this game on Saturday.
@Crimsonorblue22 Oh crap...the #1 seed curse. I don't know what it is about that, but it always seems to hit just right before or right after some kind of stupid incident: loss, player issue, suspension, or something.
I'm really having a hard time believing any of the guys had anything to do with this rape, 16 yrs old? Geesh
I was afraid this would happen. Seems we play in Morgantown around this time every year and take a lump on the mouth. They will come to AFH and we'll repay them.
I hope to be wrong, but Mason's knee may be an issue.
@HawkChamp Mason is a bit too fearless. He's got to be smart when driving into the likes of Claire(?). He beat UT a few times and willed his way to the glass. I'd like to see our bigs meet Mason and company at the rim for a dish and flush.
@Crimsonorblue22 Huggy knows talent.
@approxinfinity They'll tank win it counts. I don't think Shaka has the Chakas to coach at the next level. I agree that his ride was a fluke at the mid-major level, and VCU.
@JayHawkFanToo Another premadona created by KU. Don't forget Drew's bonus with a win over KU and B12 tourney wins. Also, Huggy's contract has a nice bonus if he beats KU too. KU is B12 bball.
@drgnslayr KU was his formal intro and break out game. It took KU to bring out his true talent.
@ralster Self could break that press all night and hang 20 pts on WVU and Huggy will still live and die by that nasty foul fested press.
@JayHawkFanToo I thought Smart was a waste of time and money. Sure, he made some noise at the mid-major level, but they totally went the wrong direction with Smart. However, anyone was better than Barnes.
@ralster Dook is one of the blueblood programs that you just can't turn down. UCLA is making some noise. The question is, can Alford sustain or does he want another brand. Dook has been grooming Jeff Capel for some time. I think he may get the nod. I would go with other dookies, like Dawkins or Amaker.
@ralster He used to have Lynn Dickey from TTU if that counts.
@drgnslayr It's dook. They will actually rise in the polls. The worse they play, the higher they're ranked.
@jaybate-1.0 I saw it too. I also saw the pass into the low post too. I thought it was a KU game for a mili-second. I then turned it off. The only news from this game is #3 went down as well as the Mountbillies.
@HawkChamp Let's say I'm optimistically hopeful that LL, Bragg, and now Lightfoot will step up for the next several games. Our frontcourt is very thin right now with Doke out. Teams with bigs like UT will pound the ball. I did like Self's plan with our three bigs. It worked. Let's hope it proves the "exposure" comment completely wrong.
@kjayhawks Don't get over confident with KSU either. It's going to be a fight in the Green Apple.
@HawkChamp I think the other CBS host said it. I don't remember his name. The inside game is discussed since Doke has been sidelined. I just hope Self continues to compensate and/or Bragg steps up. I thought Lightfoot came in and gave us a few good mins today.
@wissox The timing was off and VIck should've told UT he was going to lob that fast break. This team needs to get more reactive, and stop allowing the opposing to dictate their play. A great head fake would've caused them to jump right of his shoes and they get an easy bucket. It's almost as if UT's scouting report was half way effective today.
@Crimsonorblue22 LL sick? And he still grabbed 12+ RBs? And we won? I think rather looking at how they failed, lets look at how they succeeded and gain some more hope. I thought JJ finally played more to his potential. The lobs were nasty failures and I don't think we completed one lob.
I do agree with Clark Kellogg and today's analysts, KU was exposed inside. Bragg played better, but his aggressive flush is an example of how they need to play every game. KU plays soft for too much of the game. When they play aggressive and assertively, they can beat any team in the nation.
Actually we see it year in and year out. Opposing bigs or guards always have a great game in AFH. Watch every home game and you find that various opposing players have or at least one has a monster game. For example, Buddy Hield came into AFH and torched us for 30+ points his senior year. I remember when freakin' Kevin Durant came into AFH and torched us for 30+ points. We don't even have to play at AFH. Every single team and every great player always plays great and up to KU. It seems we always play down.
Today, say what you want. All in all, we played with all the atypical play, and still won. I hope this is the year and team that will erase the all too familiar pattern of playing sloppy for 2-3 games, only to succumb to an eventual loss. Every year I watch each KU team play and win, only to watch them falter in one "trap" type game to lose. I'd like to see KU get through WVU and BU. IF this team lives up to it's current pattern of winning at all costs, hopefully my all too familiar pattern experience will not happen.
Loved it. Howver. I could have lived without it. BUT since he did it...loved it.
I think Mason or Graham is capable of having a 30 + night any night.
Points 3 and 4 will be large for KU.
I would say Landens veteran experince will have to produce rebounds.
The winner will win the boards.
50/50 balls will be priceless.
Clones will be hungry for a key win.
KU will be tested with composure. Mason, Graham, Svi and Lucas must step up in this game.
Still #2:and they jumped Nova over us. I have no problem with being #2 this time of year
Dont want that #1 at all right now. This should challenge the guys to play better, than just because other teams lost.
@Crimsonorblue22 Having fun
@BShark Bragg has some growing to do on and off the court. The whole pushing incident really knocked him off track. He has to prove himself even more now.
@Hawk8086 Why would we have to lose Graham and Svi? We will definitely lose Frank to graduation. I don't think we have to lose three key players. If we do, then maybe Young is a bit too expensive? I'd love to have him and I believe he will play with or without Graham and Svi, but we don't have to lose the entire back court to gain him.
What does it take to gain the #3 recruit? He will take all of Frank's minutes and that's too many as it is, especially as an incoming freshman. Frank didn't play that many his freshman year and if Young is patient (if and when) he arrives, he'll get PLENTY of PT.
He needs to trust Bill Self.
Besides, why would a top ranked bball player go to a football school? I may be wrong, and it won't be the last time, but if Young is the basketball player he seems to be, he picks KU. He won't get exposure at OU or OSU. Buddy Hield and Blake Griffin are 4-5 year rarities at football schools. It would be like Blake Bell choosing KU to play QB. Trae Young is a winner and winners want to win. You go to the program with the longest win streak and become part of history.
I believe there is a dorm room reserved at McCarthy Hall for Trae Young.
@wissox I don't want that cursed #1 spot. Those rankings are always BS this time of year. March is all that matters and who is cutting down those nets every single year.
@JayHawkFanToo Oops....so much for that legitimate #1 spot. It appears WVU agreed with me. I've been around the B12 a long time my friend. I hear the BU hype every hear. I didn't say they were a bad team, I just don't think Scott Drew has the coaching skills to take them to the next level. I never said they didn't deserve the #1 spot for a day(?) I just don't think they played a tough quality team, until now. Also, the "experts" aren't always right. In case you think my homer glasses are on, the "experts" have tried to use their "expertise" with KU and it failed too many times, KU has proven them wrong on many occasions.
But we all have opinions and that's a good thing.
You're just now figuring this out?
Here we go with all the Baylor hype and Scott Drew getting his hopes up in the B12. They have to visit WVU, TCU, and KState. We all know how Baylor comes out of the preseason gate with some noise, and then quiet down around Jan-Feb. They also come to Lawrence too. They will have 1-2 loses. I think they fall against WVU and KState.
We hear this every year from Baylor and how they can "dethrone" KU.
Look at BU's schedule. Scott Drew says they've done well against some good teams. He's trying to justify their #1 ranking. They beat a very premature Oregon who was proven to be way overrated. They played a very weak MSU early in the season too. MSU has fallen completely out of the rankings. I have always believed BU and Drew to be a little bit of a fluke.
Baylor #1 right now is a little funny.
Nova played #15 Purdue early and won by 3pts.
BU won impressively over a #4 ranked Oregon. Where are they now? Not even in the top 25, very premature.
UK beat then #13 MSU. Their non-con schedule seems to be soft until they play a UCLA and their true colors shine.
MSU will be one of those Izzo teams that will be ready come conference and dance time. He always prepares and has his teams ready for March.
Let's see if UCLA can go the distance.
Unranked Tennessee gave UNC a run and lost by 2pts.
We all know the teams that will rise to the moment. I hate to say it but Dook will likely gel and make some noise in the ACC and then in March.
Let's hope the Hawks will play to their potential and ranking. I really don't care if they ever gain the #1 spot. I hope they get a #1 seed come March. I'm happy if they hang around the 3-4 spots all season. It's so very early and so much ball to play.
IU came out swinging and back down to #9 ? I have a feeling they played one of the best games of their season against KU. And KU pretty much gave them the game too.
Kick the girl out and get her off the campus. She seems to have a crazy bent and desire for drama.
Carlton- Learn your lesson and play ball.
Rock Chalk
Mason 2.0, but two differences I noticed from the links. Jacobs is every bit as good as Mason. I see Jacobs as a much better shooter off the dribble than Mason. I do see Mason being much more physical at this point than Jacobs. They are both extremely similar in play overall.
@HawkChamp JJ is going to be a beast. His confidence is rising each game.
Love his attitude and he's letting the game come to him. He's not overplaying at all.
@RockChalkinTexas Because UK will take the #1 spot by default...I can't stand it.
But all that aside, KU played fairly well and beat a good team tonight. I was gasping at 75 all. But then Mason hit that silky jumper. He's a special player.
No way UK is #1. None of these other teams have played anyone. The only teams that have played anyone is KU, Dook, and IU.
By default the stupid coaches and press will give UK the #1 spot, for now. It won't be long and they will lose too.
Dook overrated. Good but overrated and it's actually way too early for any team right now.
Oregon, UNC, Nova, and Virginia...really? This is too ridiculous right now. We all know KU doesn't need the #1 spot either, but I'm always amazed at how the "experts" can rank teams.
Right now, based on the early season...
IU
KU
Dook
UK....I'm so sick of UK padding their W column with cake walk teams.
Nova
UNC
Oregon
It will likely be...
UK
Nova
Oregon
IU
KU
Dook
Rankings this early are kinda silly really.
I would love to comment on last night's game, even though its a day old. However, can anyone tell why I can get every other ESPN3 replay EXCEPT for KU. I keep getting "Internal User Authorization Error." Geesh....If I didn't know any better, I'd think ESPN was blocking the replay on purpose.
I'm pissed.
It was good to see Rel, EJ, and Young.
We may have a "be careful what you ask for season"? Many have been playing with a lot of possibilities. What if he have an '88 kind of season. Or, what if this team is the team to fail at a #12 and uses that as motivation to land a NC? Maybe all or nothing? I've read a lot of wishes over the years. What will #12 cost us? What will a NC cost? Nothing? We shall see.
@DinarHawk LOL...hopefully they know what tough means in the B12. They will learn the hard way?
@Crimsonorblue22 I think he was actually 50/50 with Embiid. I do believe though MkMorris was a really hard lesson. But with McMorris going, it didn't surprise most of us. The minute Marcus jumped, I think most knew Mk would follow.
@cragarhawk The year the Twins went pro really caught Self with his pants completely down. Remember, he wasn't expecting MkMorris to go pro. It was a strange time when Self seemed really panicked for bigs. He really hooked his horse to MkMorris. Yet that was also soon around the time in 2012 when Withey and TRob took us to the NC game against UK too? If my memory serves me correctly, I believe MkMorris could've made a little difference with Mr Davis and Co.
@cragarhawk I do believe Lucas was a bit of a solution during a dry spell with bigs. There were a few years where we couldn't buy a big.
