@cragarhawk Yes, it's the way we ended the game that was most disappointing. MSU clearly wanted it more, greater heart and effort at the end.
@Bwag Traylor actually looks better on the boards so far this year. Of course it's only the second game, so stats don't mean too much just yet with such a low sample size. But Traylor and Lucas had more boards/min this game than Bragg or Hunter (granted it's hard to do much in 3 minutes).
Frustrating loss, regardless.
@cragarhawk True, MSU had 10 off boards, but we had 12.
@Bwag Yeah, can't explain that one.
Bragg had zero rebounds in 11 minutes. Hunter 1 board in 3 minutes.
Just an observation.
@DanR He must be hurt. No other explanation.
@Bwag 14 vs 32 min
@wissoxfan83 They also lead in turnovers 13-5
Bragg with 8 pts and 6 rebounds in 10 minutes.
Your belt line could be anywhere from your butt crack to your nipples, depending on how cool you are. I'd be cautious about interpreting waist height from belt line in a photo.
Fascinating analysis, nonetheless.
That's one nice thing about this site. We get a real liberal arts education!
@HighEliteMajor ESPN still botched it.
"Team USA...was coached by Bill Self and composed of all Jayhawks as well as SMU guard Nic Moore. "
And Julian DuBose,
@HighEliteMajor Did you see this quote ↗ from Self after the Russian game? Thought you'd like it.
With a 24-second shot clock, Self has let the Jayhawks play without many set-plays on offense, which has helped USA’s guards create opportunities off of the dribble.
“We didn’t score on the block,” Self said after his team scored 38 of its 78 points in the paint against Russia. "Landen (Lucas) made two baskets on the block when we threw it over the top. But for the most part, everything was drive it or play to 15-foot jumpers or play to threes. I’ve never played this way. But I’ve learned a lot in the past month.
“We’ve always played to our bigs and we still have to. But you know what, the trust in guys to go one-on-one and make plays has probably made us better basketball players individually.”
@globaljaybird foul trouble, I think
@globaljaybird Hit him in the elbow with his ribs
@KUSTEVE I think he caught a knee
Wayne looks like he could just go get a bucket whenever he wants.

Here is the official NCAA summary ↗of the changes...
I like this one:
...the panel approved a rule that would allow officials to penalize players who fake fouls. The NCAA Men’s Basketball Rules Committee felt that players trying to draw fouls by deception is a growing issue.
The flop rule! How will they be penalized? Do the floppers get charged a foul? That would be very cool.
@Crimsonorblue22 I think 5'9

We're also seeing him finish at the rim, which has been a nagging and frustrating issue for Wayne.
Last year, @jaybate-1.0 suggested maybe Wayne just has small hands. That could be why he kept losing the handle, and couldn't finish at the rim.
The size of the international ball is smaller than NCAA regulation size. It's not much, only an inch circumference, but it could make a difference to a stubby-fingered guard.
I hope that's not the case. That is, I hope ball size doesn't matter. But I thought the hypothesis was interesting, and it's supported by our observations of Wayne's improved play on the international stage. Anybody know which ball they used in the exhibition games with Canada?
@Jayrawks1 Looks like it's listed there now. Way down under International, not under Basketball.
@DanR I was wondering the same thing.
Mason must be tired. Airball on the 3.
@DanR Bill liked the way the officials called the last game. Let them play. No blood, no foul.
@KansasComet Better now.
I need coffee
@JayHawkFanToo Sure. The point is we haven't dominated the last few games, and aren't necessarily expected to win automatically, which should mean less pressure.
@drgnslayr First round! Are there any brackets we can fill out?!?
@Crimsonorblue22 Sure, they are great, and I appreciate their coverage. But I would have expected the sports editor and the KU basketball beat writer to get sent, somebody higher up the totem pole. Especially this time of year when there's not much else going on sports-wise (I gave up on baseball in 1994), and to an international event. I was just surprised to see the photographer writing articles. Maybe it's too expensive for a local paper to send more staff, maybe Keegan didn't want to squeeze his big butt into a little airplane seat for that long. I just think it's a big deal, and I'm excited, and I thought the A-team would have wanted to be there (not that the current guys aren't doing a great job).
@JhawkAlum I get the feeling he just isn't feeling much pressure. He took a leak in the middle of the scrimmage against China! The US team placed 9th in the last WUG, and 5th the time before. Sure they are representing their country, but the event just doesn't get all that much attention. The Journal World sent Bobby Nightengale and Mike Yoder to cover it! There's a lot more pressure and attention in the Big 12 than on this world stage. With all the extra time for practice and bonding, and low expectations, it's all good. I think Bill is just relaxed and enjoying himself.
@wrwlumpy Is that Chiang Kai-Cheick?
He wears number 13. Seems like KU had another pretty good basketball player wear that jersey number back in the day.
@RockChalkinTexas Who did the seeding on this bracket? E.g., Christian Moody got a tough draw in the first round, going up against Chalmers.
I'm glad I don't have to rank my kids this way!
@KUinLA BBQ is always awesome.

I always assumed the NBA drafts and plays guys on their ability?
Not ability, but potential! They gamble it will translate to ability.
@sfbahawk So it appears we have 2 hypotheses.
- The NCAA is corrupt.
- The NCAA is stupid.
I think I'm with stupid.
Last year officials were getting crucified at the beginning of the season because they called too many fouls, often touch fouls, that slowed down the game. We all complained about it. Games went long, couldn't get into a flow, tons of free throws. Ugly to watch. So the refs went back to calling fouls the way they used to.
Now we want them to try again? Will the players adjust eventually? Did they give up too soon?
@jaybate-1.0 To me, sand bagging is intentional. If you don't know how to play hard, then you're not doing it intentionally. Most teenagers think they know what it means to work hard, but really don't understand what it means to give consistent effort, day after day.
Seniors (UW) play hard. Freshmen (UK and Duke) really don't understand what it means, for the most part. Especially top talent, because they haven't had to work hard to excel. It's just a learning process, which takes time, which you don't have in a single season.
@jaybate-1.0 Jordan was third banana on that team
Why? Was he protecting the merchandise? No, he was just a freshman. He hadn't figured it out yet. He hadn't learned to be the dominant player he became eventually.
I have a hard time believing most of the OADs are sandbagging it. I just think they are young. It's the saddest part of the OAD culture, that we never get to see what they could develop into. They rarely dominate. Jordan's freshman year is a great example; great player, certainly had his moments, but still a freshman and 3rd banana. Danny Manning deferred to Ron Kellog and Calvin Thompson his freshman year. He was just young.
And you're right. No chance for great players to mature and develop is diluting the game.
Bo knows they got robbed.
I would have rather seen Kentucky win than rat face. Because it would get vacated eventually.
Off Winslow's left hand. Fingertip.
@Kip_McSmithers Not sure it was intentional, maybe just got lucky
@Bwag Did they call it?
@approxinfinity We were too stupid to panic. Maybe too inebriated too.
@Crimsonorblue22 Took some tools to remove the frame
@Kip_McSmithers It's hard to burn a couch. Something I learned at KU. After we threw it out of a schol hall window.
@wissoxfan83 The sett. Badger's den. Clever
@JRyman I'll remember them. They made us look like scared little girls in November. They should have been the first undefeated team in nearly 40 years. I didn't watch the game last night and was shocked to read about it this morning. I'm impressed as hell by Wisconsin's win. Go badgers!
Just shows how unpredictable the tournament is, and honestly makes me feel a little less bad about KU's early losses.
@nuleafjhawk Alas, no. Here's the link.
