@Woodrow Bracketology had the league with 7 bids. BIG had 10 bids actually which means every team in the league gets a bid I guess.
@dylans My wife and daughter (newly arrived from college) were watching some xmas movie chick flick so I couldn't even watch on TV! I was pretty tired after a long work week that I didn't have the energy to go up there by myself.
Two more unbeatens go down tonight.
Oklahoma playing at Northwestern. I'd be there but I couldn't find anyone to go there with me. Been watching Marquette/Buffalo. Buffalo is looking really good.
Baton Rouge folks ran Les out of town so they are giddy to report his supposed shortcomings. Just thought I'd share the story. I really didn't like the people there very much. Football was all they talked about. Tonight Furman comes into the PMac to play a pretty good LSU team and there might be 10,000 fans there. I played in a Thursday night softball league that cancelled it's season because the first Thursday before Labor Day were the first college football games and they had to stay home to watch. And don't even get me started on their racism....
@BeddieKU23 I know he's considering Northwestern too. That's actually a good sign about the kid. I don't know his mom very well. If I see Howard at the game, maybe I'll say hi to him like I did a few years ago when I was watching Markese Jacobs.
Of course the kid has Wisconsin on his list so I might tell him UW is a nice fall back school if KU doesn't work out.
To be honest, as an Illinois native, and Illini fan, but not fanatic growing up, I would love to see Illinois basketball become relevant again so if he ends up there, that wouldn't be the end of the world in my mind.
Goodness, if I meet him, I'm gonna confuse him.
@BeddieKU23 I'm gonna check him out over Christmas break. His school actually has a game here in the gym where I teach.
KU prospect Miller from Morgan Park is currently two doors down from me in his moms class room. He's Illinois' #1 rated Junior. I'm gonna meet this kid sometime and tell him KU is a great place for someone like him. I already told his mom that.
Not a good look initially for Les.
They're shooting .333 from the arc. I bet they'll raise that low average Saturday!
Zion might still be in the game if they had called a foul on the previous Tech possession when they shot in the lane.
When Tech had an 8 point lead and then turned it into a 5 point lead, the foul count in that sequence was 6-2 in you know who's favor.
Dick crying now that Zion is out with 4 fouls
Might have to rewatch the phantom travel again to see if it really was a travel. #dukewhistle
@KUSTEVE Yeah, that 27-0 blitz was breathtaking. Wofford as has been documented is pretty good. We blitzed SD the other day too. Almost had a 40 point lead after seemingly leading by 5-10 points the whole game.
Of course when you beat Tenn who beat Gonzaga who beat Duke, you know there's some greatness going on. MSU is going pretty good too, and while the final result was close, we manhandled them too.
I mentioned this on the thread last night. I think back to some of our really good teams, (my KU memories only go back this far) 1985-86, 96-97, 2002-2003, 2007-2008 and those teams did what you said they did. There was a take no prisoners mentality and they destroyed lesser teams. Part of this is age as some have pointed out.
I'm not seeing offensive skills on this team like past years. Of course we're seeing a super solid inside game with Lawson which we haven't had in a player since Perry Ellis. So it's just a different team that has survived, and is getting tougher. Saturday will show us something too about this group. I suspect they'll be laser focused.
@DanR Lebron 31, Svi 0 Actually Svi has had a couple decent games for them. Glad to see it.
Svi and Lebron have combined for 31 points tonight.
Can't wait to see our first real road game Saturday.
@BShark You know about him? I might have to introduce his mom to some shoe agents!
I learned at work today the son of a coworker is a KU offer. Same high school as Charlie Moore. He's the top junior in the state of Illinois. I'm gonna go see him play Friday night. Last name is Miller, forgot his 1st name.
Remember how reckless Frank was his freshman year? Moore aint a freshman I understand but I still think he could be a solid contributer in a year or so.
I told ya'll Charlie was going to contribute to this team.
@Texas-Hawk-10 Nice post sir! The interesting thing about this team is how they tend to play down to their competition, or maybe they're just experimenting, making them almost like scrimmages. It's pretty fascinating to watch. Interesting thing too is the pollsters recognize us as the top team despite a months worth of underwhelming performances against some middling teams. The win against Tennessee is looking better and better.
@Woodrow Wasn't he a five star? Imagine how great if he were a 6 star!
Les Miles' team might beat SD by more than this in the 1st half of a game.
"Sir we'd like to decline the penalty"
I hate grading papers while watching KU basketball and trying to keep up with all ya'll at the same time.
If I had paid for a ticket for this game I'd ask for a refund. I don't want to go all negative nanny right now, but this is the #1 team in the country. This is quite pathetic.
Vick needs one of his buddies from the last two years to feed him some lobs. Has he even once dunked this year?
@DanR I'm behind, you ruined the suspense, I thought we might shut them out.
My wife, who is more observant than me, noticed the on screen score board said "George Mason" for a while.
Bugs me when announcers call it Phog Allen Fieldhouse. He just called it that. Now I don't like him.
Who is Dave Armstrong? Is he a KU guy?
@BShark Sorry sir, but I have to say this again, Shaddup
@justanotherfan Really? Is a kid really going to pick misery over Kstate? Not being from Kansas, I'm not the expert on the local scene for sure, but I always kind of assumed in general kids who didn't pick KU who are local kids i.e. Kansas kids, will go to Kstate or Wichita.
Saw a Twitter from the kid. He tore ligaments in ankle broke his fibula or tibia I forget which and dislocated the ankle. Heβs home from hospital vowing to join his teammates in practice tomorrow.
We have some ties to Wheaton College in the Chicago area and I try to get out to a few games a year there. They have the #1 scorer in D3 this year who is a hi volume 3 point shooter and is averaging 33 a game. His name is Ashton Francis.
Last night was not his night, he only scored 20, but what happened at the 1:13 mark will stay with me the rest of my life.
Wheaton had come back from 31 down to get within 8 until a late run doomed them. Francis got fouled on a three, but when the fouler landed his foot broke very grotesquely, kind of like the Louisville lad a few years back. Players were walking away looking like they were going to vomit.
The crowd of about 1000 grew silent. Which then exposed us to the poor kids screams. We watched for 20 minutes as he was attended to, went into shock, then calmed down. Players from both sides huddled and prayed. Not sure why they didn't bring a stretcher in, but a board was brought in and he was carried out to the applause of the crowd.
I was kind of curious to see if the game would continue. It had cast such a pawl over the gym that no one really cared about the very outside chance that Wheaton would come back and win. The coaches met the refs and the players took the court. The FT shooter went to the line, still in dead silence, made all 3 with 1 rebounder on the lane. North Central inbounded, got across half court, shot clock expired. Wheaton inbounded, and stood with the ball. The crowd walked out in stunned silence.
We see these things on TV, and it's a little disturbing. We see it live just out in front of our seats and it's shattering. As much as I wanted Wheaton to win, to see Ashton score 54 as he did the other night, it didn't matter a bit. Seeing a kid with who knows what kind of injuries, end his college career that way was just very perspective changing. These are just games.
Great stuff. Beautiful campus, who'd a thunk it? The picture of the tunnel on the Needles highway brings back a memory of our motorhome we had rented getting stuck in there on our big western trip in 1979. Dad had to climb on the roof and untie something sticking out a bit.
@Crimsonorblue22 I've been to one postseason game, in the Superdome 2012! Wish we could have pulled that one off of course.
@Crimsonorblue22 Keep going
@BShark I know I was rude to you earlier, but I'm glad you're still 0 for the season in picking KU games.
@kjayhawks Thanks for the memory of that.
No Dedric, No Desousa. Winner winner. We probably should have won this by more but as much as I hate to admit it, Jay Wright is the best coach in college hoops right now. I'm already nervous about playing them next year in Philly.
These refs should assess a technical on themselves.
Our basketball IQ isn't very high.
I'm scared
Vick better grab that rebound
Vick loses his head.
