FBI...here we go • Oct 12, 2018 11:46 AM

Wetzel's latest article on the trial doesn't make us sound very good.

Paging mayjay... • Oct 12, 2018 01:25 AM

Sounds like you came through it well. Glad to hear. We had one serious hurricane during our Baton Rouge years, Gustav.

Preseason Media Source Question.... • Oct 10, 2018 05:12 PM

When the DTV guy came to our new house to install the dish he asked me if he could borrow a drill. Said he was borrowing someones DTV van and it didn't have a drill in it. I give him my drill with the chuck key. When he's leaving he puts the drill on the steps with no chuck key. I said where's the chuck key? He says he put it by the drill. I said it's not by the drill. He said it was and left. I'm pissed.

@BeddieKU23 That same tournament is when I saw future and now former Hawk Markese Jacobs play and met Jerrance Howard. It's a great tournament which has so many future college and pro stars play.

Did you see him play at Cal at all?

I think I watched a little once. However, I did see him in person once as well. It was at a holiday tournament in Chicago and while I had no knowledge of anyone on the floor at the time, immediately as the game began his skill became very clear. He stood out and was playing in a game on a team that would win state in Illinois that year.

Funny to me to hear people here, (not on this discussion today) but in general to be not very high on Charlie Moore. This kid is really very good and I think will be a key performer, probably off the bench.

Best Passer... EVER • Oct 09, 2018 05:19 PM

I once saw Danny M throw a full length bounce pass that basically was thrown diagonally from the right side of the lane, where I was sitting, to a fast breaker who caught the ball on the left side of the opposite lane. From my unique vantage point I could see the precision needed for such a pass to work as it split two defenders. Glad my brain has hung onto the video of that play. If Mr. Lawson can throw passes like that I'll call him the best passer ever too!

DVR is the best way to watch games, but of course, a game that ends at 11PM it's really hard to do so.

Playoffs • Oct 09, 2018 03:27 PM

@Kcmatt7 All of those are true, but we're also in an era of huge strikeout numbers. Those take a lot of time particularly when a pitcher goes 0-2 on the batter, then nibbles on the corners missing or inducing foul offs, suddenly, it's 3-2 and batter fouls off 3 or 4 pitches. Of course between each pitch is checking on runners, batters stepping out, etc.

Playoffs • Oct 09, 2018 03:17 PM

So far 1 playoff game has ended under 3 hours. Brewers have played 4 games all at least 3.25 hours long while giving up a total of 3 runs. How does that happen? MLB you have a problem and it's called length of games.

Playoffs • Oct 08, 2018 12:16 AM

Brewers with 11 wins in a row. Rockies scored in one of 27 innings. This is a team on a roll right now.

WVU Game • Oct 06, 2018 06:50 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 Me too. Not watching at all, visiting family today, but I'm outraged the refs couldn't see it!

FBI...here we go • Oct 05, 2018 02:40 AM

@Lulufulu If that big could play for Arizona last season then everyone should be playing!

Playoffs • Oct 05, 2018 02:34 AM

Moose, Soria, Cain, Cedeno, Albers. 5 ex Sox/Royals on this Brewer team.

Playoffs • Oct 05, 2018 12:03 AM

This Brewer bullpen reminds me of the Royal pens from their World Series years.

Playoffs • Oct 04, 2018 03:33 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 I don't know that much about Bettman. I do know that he deserves his title Buttman though. And of course I didn't actually study all league commissioners when I made my hyperbolic statement! But baseball was the national pasttime arguably when Selig became commissioner, and under his watch it fell to maybe 3rd in relevance to the NFL and NBA.

Playoffs • Oct 04, 2018 01:00 PM

@mayjay I have an annual rant on TV coverage. In short, Fox treats baseball as an inconvenience, only televising WS games.

MLB decided they won't compete with football meaning all playoff games until the WS are not available to all viewers in the US. Not only that, the WS now has the majority of its games on weeknights and not on weekends by virtue of them starting on a Tuesday night. It used to be reversed until Selig, the worst commissioner in sports history decided they were'nt going to compete with football.

ESPN would much rather show football, so even though they show a few regular season games involving NY/Bos/Atl/Wash, they'll only do 1 postseason game and that's happened already.

I could go on and on. Makes me blood boil!

Beaty's last game? • Oct 04, 2018 12:54 PM

@mayjay Actually, he drove there and we drove there separately.

Playoffs • Oct 04, 2018 02:30 AM

MLB getting what they want with a forthcoming BoSox/Yankees series.

Beaty's last game? • Oct 04, 2018 01:28 AM

I used to go to church with Les and Kathy Miles. Nice guy. KU should hire him based on all of that.

Playoffs • Oct 03, 2018 09:44 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 Oh, the reason I hate to do so is because as a Sox fan, the last thing I want is the Cubs to even get to a world series!

Playoffs • Oct 03, 2018 02:19 AM

Anyone want to chat MLB playoffs the next few weeks come by here. I won't be here through every pitch but will be on occasion.

Gonna be some great series. Cleveland Houston is going to be epic but Houston's better methinks.

Although I'm hoping the Rockies can eliminate my archenemy in the next hour, if they don't Cubs/BrewCrew will be a great series too. It's a really good rivalry in these parts.

Of course tv execs are hoping for a Yankees win tomorrow night so they can write another chapter in the series that most of America doesn't want to see written. Baseball wise if you could put the same teams in say, Seattle, and Minnesota or whatever, it would be great theater. They're both spectacular teams baseball wise.

Dodgerzzzz-Bravezzzzz Not much for me there.

My picks? I hate to do this, but Cubs-Houston and the Stros repeat.

Life hits hard sometimes • Oct 02, 2018 12:45 AM

@bcjayhawk Thanks for the encouragement. Today was a really rough day for me and I needed to hear it! Thanks!

SVI! • Sep 29, 2018 01:54 PM

I just watched the 2nd half of the KU-Duke game. Svi did hit the big game tying 3, but missed a boatload of unguarded 3's before that. I hope he makes it obviously, but I have my doubts.

Life hits hard sometimes • Sep 28, 2018 10:49 PM

Thanks BC! Seems like there's been a lot lately in my life like this lately. I try my best to steer kids on the right track but you can only do so much.

Basketball - A Love Story • Sep 28, 2018 04:55 PM

I missed it. I saw it on the guide, scrolled through wondering if I should DVR anything but nothing was mentioned about KU so I decided I'd skip it. So much to watch just didn't want to waste time watching non KU stuff.

Life hits hard sometimes • Sep 28, 2018 04:53 PM

Walking to the Sox game Wednesday and we pass a crime scene. A terrible shooting that was the result of a fight at a school. Two kids walking home that were involved were gunned down. Two kids who admittedly shouldn't have been fighting but also two kids who didn't deserve to die because they were fighting. Parents mourning. Tough stuff. 1 block from Sox park. My wife and I saw the evidence cones all over 35th street.

This morning I look at facebook and one of my favs from a decade ago in Baton Rouge is mourning the passing of his brother whom I also taught. I look at NOLA.com to try to find the story about Ronalds death and see a headline of a college basketball player from LSU whom I saw play a few times during our last year in Baton Rouge. There was a fight. Doesn't say if he was involved. Some will say he shouldn't be out on the streets at midnight. Last I checked it's not against the law. Last night while you and I were sleeping. Wayde Sims, 20 years and gone.

Tough morning.

@BeddieKU23 Interestingly I really don't care too much about late night! It was a cool event in 1986 when I attended my first, but it doesn't mean that much now. I guess a month ago when I first posted this it seemed like a target to look forward to but now I'm really counting days til there's real action!

Thought I was reading a bunch of Beetle Bailey swear words :)

@KUSTEVE You forgot your facetious font.

Tonight!!! • Sep 24, 2018 05:10 PM

@KUSTEVE They do! I've bought one for every season back to the mid 80's. Somehow I lost my mid 80's to late 80's, but have every issue going back to since then. I pull them out every once in a while and like looking at the names of the HS stars. They name 20 top players and then long lists of honorable mention types. The number of top 20 types who even make themselves into a decent college player is pretty slim. Fascinating stuff.

By the way I have the same number of S & S's baseball magazines as well. They're still the best, although I don't like the regional covers which means I don't have any with KU on the cover except in the early days.

Tonight!!! • Sep 23, 2018 11:53 PM

Excitement builds as I buy my Street & Smith's Basketball annual and see KU inserted in the #1 slot ahead of Virginia and Duke.

CFB Week 4 - Degenerates thread • Sep 23, 2018 08:50 PM

@BShark Yes QB is a servicable guy with another year. Probably won't be a pro. Taylor the RB gained 2000 yards as a freshman, so far not on track to repeat that, but very good. Receiving corps took a hit when their best senior got arrested for a sexual assault. If he did it, I could care less that we might be less formidable, send the creep away.

CFB Week 4 - Degenerates thread • Sep 23, 2018 03:59 AM

@BShark I knew it all along!

CFB Week 4 - Degenerates thread • Sep 23, 2018 03:32 AM

Speaking of Badgers, we're about to lose our 2nd in a row. Really disappointing because this had all the marks of a final 4 team.

CFB Week 4 - Degenerates thread • Sep 23, 2018 03:31 AM

@kjayhawks I agree on Nebraska, but even though Pelini averaged 9 wins, he was heading to a major spectacular breakdown. He couldn't win the big one, acted as if he was having a heart attack on the sidelines on all those big games. Of course as a Badger, I enjoyed beating him all the time.

Frank/Devonte ...Agbaji/Braun Deja Vu • Sep 22, 2018 08:24 PM

@Kcmatt7 I wasn't butthurt whatever that means.

BAD NEWS FOR DA BEARS • Sep 22, 2018 08:13 PM

Just looked at Stubhub. Tickets for KU-Villanova start at 360. Football tickets can be had for as little as 20.

BAD NEWS FOR DA BEARS • Sep 22, 2018 08:10 PM

@DanR I'll have to get accustomed to the traditions!

BAD NEWS FOR DA BEARS • Sep 22, 2018 08:06 PM

I'm being reminded why I've hardly watched KU football for years.

BAD NEWS FOR DA BEARS • Sep 22, 2018 07:58 PM

I think illegal motion/false starts are the only penalties that can't be declined because they happen before the snap.

BAD NEWS FOR DA BEARS • Sep 22, 2018 07:53 PM

That penalty of ineligible downfield wasn't the only penalty. Major holding which I can't believe wasn't called. I also am surprised that the penalty was accepted because we had them at 4th down. Maybe they kick instead of giving up the TD that just happened.

Journal World • Sep 22, 2018 07:21 PM

I watch the game, know what happened, read stuff here. Usually it's good enough for me.
