Yep still teaching
@brooksmd You remain the only bucketeer that I have met face to face! I'm forever grateful to you because I'm not sure I would have even considered buying tickets for that game if you hadn't asked me if I wanted you to get some.
After 25 years, my wife and I are returning to the Chicago area to finish my career. Still finalizing some where and when type things so it's up to @brooksmd to keep the Jayhawk chant going in Louisiana.
I was complaining about my mower situation to my dad and he went out to the shed and gave me a reel mower. I have a small enough yard that it is adequate and it cuts well, starts every time, gets great gas mileage, and there's no rope to pull!
My brother is up to 10th. The loser isn't going to medal this year. Only 10th fittest man in the world. I may have to beat him up when I see him.
@Crimsonorblue22 Not sure if you'd want it, it's got some stains and what not. I just enjoy seeing it sitting in my drawer every once in a while!

Best senior year of college a basketball fanatic could have ever.
2nd event this morning he finished 8th, but some timing chip on his ankle didn't get across the line as he collapsed to the line and just lay there. They gave him 12th for the event, he's 11th overall. His third event is in a few minutes. https://games.crossfit.com/ ↗ Find masters 50+. Not sure exactly the time of his next event, sometime in next half hour or so.
This is what someone wrote about my brother from crossfit:
Want the definition of bad ass? This is my buddy from the CrossFit Games David Gantz. He finished on the podium last year and qualified again this year in the 55-59 age group. David is a brick mason in Chicago(yeh winters too). He works long hours at high effort THEN squeezes in the gym. Today is check in day at the CrossFit games. While most have been there a few days relaxing, David worked till lunch, laying masonry in Chicago. Think about that when you "just ain't feeling the gym".
Everyone follow David and support him. He's a great friend and a great guy! - Coach Billy
Crossfit games began today and David is in 5th place.
The way I look at it is if you fall fifty feet or 1000 feet you're just as dead and most of us have probably climbed something 50 feet with no protection.
Maybe every time Doke gets fouled resulting in FT's we can decline the penalty!
@DoubleDD That's an opinion you've shared. There's differing viewpoints on it. I'll respect yours, your choice whether to respect mine.
@DoubleDD I believe the flag is a symbol of the freedom we have and it includes the freedom to do things that would offend many.
I agree with @mayjay wholeheartedly. The flag may mean something different to so many. While the situation has improved for many African Americans, many generations of discrimination has led to the multigenerational poverty that afflicts our country.
@KUSTEVE It's not quite as egregious as that, but after James Worthy got arrested and suspended for being with a prostitute, LA Flakers fans gave him a standing o also. Makes no sense to me except people are so focused on winning that they'll tolerate anything as long as they got their guy back.
@KUSTEVE Unfortunately, I wasn't making this up. https://www.si.com/nfl/2014/07/29/baltimore-ravens-fans-ray-rice-standing-ovation ↗
To me you're describing effective protest!
@JayHawkFanToo Sorry it took a while to respond, not in a good technological place right now.
I see the CK protest as harmless. It didn't keep him from doing his job. I do understand you have some (a lot!) responsibility to your employer, but for protest to make any difference, it has to be done in a way that draws attention in some way, right? If he'd just made a statement at some point, it'd have been barely noticed. So he did something that got noticed. Without hurting a soul.
I do agree with a lot of what you write. I am generally pretty conservative and despise the left media and hollywood do gooders who like you say, us platforms that may be at the wrong time. I haven't read the Laura Ingraham book, sounds interesting.
Sorry @bskeet for hijacking the interesting topic. Kind of took on a life of its own obviously. Been a good discussion on both topics.
@Texas-Hawk-10 I just saw a headline this morning about Ravens fans not wanting to accept Kap on their team. They never minded a double murderer like Ray Lewis, but someone using nonviolent methods of protest is a reason to make sure he never plays for them. Crazy!
@drgnslayr The long season of baseball now runs into the too short season of college hoops! IMHO stretch out the dance a little longer. Make quarterfinals a best of three or something like that over the course of a week. Home court advantage will be given to the team with the better record. That should help us in the elite 8!
Maybe we shouldn't do politics here! CK exercised his freedom of expression very harmlessly and now he can't get on an NFL team and fans are saying they'll give up their allegiance to that team if they sign
Meanwhile players like Ray Rice get a standing ovation apparently for beating his wife but Raven fans won't tolerate CK.
@drgnslayr I was about to write what you did! I was chagrined to look at friggin espn the other day and see nothin but friggin football and friggin NBA.
MLB is to blame I think. Their national network FOX doesn't televise a postseason game until the World Series. During the stretch run as pennant races heat up they've stopped doing the one game of the week they've done for years.
The other national network for baseball, friggin espn does no postseason games. I can't imagine a league commissioner like friggin Selig and friggin manfred allowing their sport to be treated so poorly.
It was an interesting original post. CTE will kill the sport I think and the violence of football just gets worse as players headhunt without impunity. Or is it with impunity? I forget! No I didn't play football! Anyways college hoops lives on and for that I'm thankful to be a Jayhawk!
@KUSTEVE hi Steve, I'm Steve!
@Fightsongwriter Since you're a Jayhawk fan I can forgive the Packer thing, you too @jayballer54! To be honest all my years in Wisconsin I kind of wish I did start cheering for the Pack! But I just couldn't do it. Badgers however......
@mayjay Ha! Any seinfeld reference is a good one!
@approxinfinity Another podcast I've begun to enjoy is Generationwhy. It's kind of a morbid themed podcast as it focusses on crimes usually, but they're usually high profile crimes which makes it more interesting.
@nuleafjhawk Certainly! David Gantz. Usually the old geezers compete during the day on weekdays. I think it's next week Thursday and Friday. His knees are really sore right now, almost dropped out. Now you know my last name, let you guess my first name. I'll give you a hint, it starts with st and rhymes grieve.
Gonna brag on my big brother for a minute. He does crossfit and is competing in the crossfit games next week. He has finished 3rd in the world the last two years in his age group. He's an old guy in the 55-59 age group. The games this year are in Madison and are streamed live by ESPN. I'm very proud of him!
@JayHawkFanToo One benefit of minimum wage jobs are that they're supposed to provide motivation to further yourself so that someday you'll make a livable wage. I worked hard during my summers in college, laboring for my brothers masonry company. It was a great motivator to go back to KU because I knew that I didn't want to spend the rest of my life making mortar and slinging shovel fulls of it up onto scaffolds!
While I recognize my views are righter and everyone elses are wronger, I will respect everyones right to be wrong.
My view on minimum wage is this. Minimum wage jobs aren't 'supposed to be' jobs for someone to make a living on. They're to supplement someones income or provide a nice wage for a teenager. Generally teens don't complain about the minimum wage, do they? When the liberal media shows some story about a single mom or dad trying to raise a family while working at MCD's and says this isn't right, I think, well, maybe it is right. How are you going to sell dollar burgers by paying someone 15 bucks an hour at a minimum? Raise it to 15, then the person who is already making 15 says, uh, you're paying me minimum wage now? How about that raise because I'm doing more work, more skilled work than the minimum wage person.
@mayjay when we return from vacation next week we will attend Satchmofest in NOLA. Outdoors in oppressive humidity and heat. And we'll have a blast!
@Fightsongwriter Grew up a Bears fan so u know, Packers, misery, Cubs all reside at the same depths in my view! It's cool you're an owner. We're you at the board meeting the other day?
Sorry but this is my thread and I don't want anyone to ruin it by talking about the football version of misery, aka the Green Bay Pukers.
And @mayjay columbia heat humidity is minor league compared to Baton Rouge!
This rebuild is tough to watch! We are going to be very good in about two years
I'm a podcast listener and have often thought that it'd be fun to do a podcast, possibly on the Jayhawks.
My problem is I have no expertise, and the competition is really good from other Jayhawk podcasts. We would have little access to interviewing influential guests like current players or even the coach, and well, it's just overwhelming.
Blogging however is simple, I've blogged sporadically for years (citeachery.wordpress.com), but I've not figured out how to entice lots of eyeballs.
To do a decent KUBuckets blog, we'd need an editor, someone with the cajones to nix a submission, or ask someone to tweek it, shorten it, lengthen it, etc. That process itself might cost us people who submit a blog and it gets nixed and they get their feelings hurt. Good ideas however!
I just thought it was because he realized he sucked and wouldn't get any PT.
@Texas-Hawk-10 I don't know.
@JayHawkFanToo you do raise a good question. Does a good conference prepare you for the dance? If we play in the top conference according to those indices then obviously it doesn't. But leagues that have perennial top ten teams like the ACC or big ten I think give teams a little more of a competitive edge and it benefits them in the dance.
I've never been that impressed by our schedule to be honest. We don't go on the road to play top teams in their gyms (except for league games). We have a tough neutral site schedule every year. We don't even have a great home schedule outside of conference play. We play good but not great teams in AFH. This is why entering a home and home with WSU would be beneficial.
When Babe Ruth was asked if it was right that he made more money than the president he said "I had a better year than he did".
@JayHawkFanToo I'm gonna side with @elpoyo a little bit. Our league has not done much to prepare us for winning it all. Basically one elite team besides us of course, since we won it all, OU with Buddy Hield. And we saw how elite they were against Villanova. Those conference rankings you must admit, have been exposed come tournament time just about every year as we survive til the sweet 16/elite 8 with maybe one or two other league teams. We're the only team with a national title in the Big12! (please anyone, I'm racking my brain, if there's another, correct me!) That's going back to the greatest generation! I don't even want to think about how many titles the SEC, ACC, Big10, PAC12, BigEast has had compared to the Big 12.
And to be honest it bothers me not one bit. If Baylor or OSU or whoever won a title I wouldn't jump up and down. I want KU to win! That's all. But if we can play in a league that will help us win it all, then maybe this whole discussion needs to change from replacing the coach to switching conferences!
George Hill? 57 million? Never thought I'd read those two in the same sentence. I barely pay attention to the NBA, but know enough I thought to be aware of the decent players. I've never heard of George Hill. I should have worked on my jumper....
@dylans I've been beating that drum for years. We don't go on the road to play tough away games unless it's forced on us by things like the big12-sec challenge.
@Fightsongwriter Sounds great! You must be a great advisor. Maybe you could give the team some advise each March!
@nuleafjhawk Here in Wisconsin there are two tone houses. They are green and gold.
@Lulufulu The Rockies get all the love but eastern mountains
are beautiful as well. Sounds like an interesting job.
@Texas-Hawk-10 We have it good as teachers!
More eyes mean more fouls called off the ball. Sorry, JB, this idea doesn't fly, pun fully intended.
@approxinfinity We're rebuilding, you can have David Robertson. He's having a decent year, still fairly young. Just give us Bryce Harper, he's probably gone in free agency in 18 or 19, right?
@mayjay Hah! I've been tempted. I come home and my wife says 'how was your day?' My standard response is 'well, I didn't kill anyone'!!
@dylans Probably a Missouri fan, so no big deal really.
@DanR Bowen Island sounds nice.
Since @nuleafjhawk once said KUBuckets is his facebook I figured I'd ask. Where's everyone been? Traveling? Going to games?
I just got back from Yosemite and SanFran, had a wonderful time. Got kicked out of Cypress Point golf club and walked the 18th hole at Pebble Beach.
We get out of the heat in Louisiana for a couple of months and hang out in Wisconsin. I'm training for an event called the splash n dash, a half mile swim and 5K biathlon. For a 53 year old who never ran before this year, I'm excited to compete and hope to finish.
It's slightly less fun talking here about hoops and what not, but the season is drawing closer at least. Until then, what's going on?
