Interim tag, doubtful he'll be the head coach right now. He hit the last shot in the Hearns Center, a walk off game winner, at hated misery for us as a freshman.

They're probably giddy just like we'd be giddy for hearing crap about Kentuck. I guess we'll see how it plays out. Doesn't sound real substantial right now.
@bskeet There were some family ties. Not sure if Nike schools are a part of this whole fiasco, but LSU is Nike.
I'd like to thank Bama and Zona and the Ville for giving us something interesting to talk about leading up to late night. First time in months this board has come alive!
I never minded Louisville during the Denny Crum years, but Pitino is such an arrogant jerk I've despised them. IMHO they stole the title from Michigan, or if you will, were handed the title by some pretty bad officiating. The block by Trey Burke on the fast break was a spectacular block and the refs called it a foul. I turned the game off at that point. Pitino's sordid affair in the bar bathroom and subsequent abortion was awful, the prostitutes. Man this school made Tarkanian look like St. Paul.
@BigBad As a veteran inner city school teacher, all you have to do to earn a 3.0 is come to school and work hard. We have so many low performing students that we reward kids for their hard work. There often is a huge disconnect between ACT scores and GPA in our schools.
It kind of blows me away that Louisville is going to get the death penalty (potentially anyways) after this but they didn't get it after using hookers to recruit players.

@BShark All those people that were slamming Bill for not recruiting well.....OMG. They meet with KU, find out there's no money coming from us, and they sign with the money train ( AZ ).
PHOF!
Time to quote the good book. The love of money is the root of all evil, or in the NCAA version, the love of winning lots of basketball games is the root of all evil.
@BShark One of my favorite teams in any sport ever. Ask 38-0 Kentucky how good they were! Those FF years for the Badgers helped me ease the sting of the two bad endings to KU seasons when they lost to WSU and Stanford.
@truehawk93 Two Duke games stand out. Us and them in 86 final four. 26-14 foul count. That was in my opinion the best ku team besides 96-97 of the last fifty years or so. Then the other was the farce in 2015 which cost my 2nd love Badgers.
I'm not picking on you sir (maam?)as lots of people say the same thing, but prove your statement! Everyone here makes these assertations that Duke gets a free ride every year and we get screwed every year. I want facts!
Now if you want to talk about, using @jaybate-1-0's term of asymmetrical officiating favoring Duke in the Dance, well, I can buy that....maybe, almost for sure.
I've done this exercise before. No time to repeat it now, but maybe sometime in the future I can add more evidence to it, but KU gets a more favorable 1st and 2nd round site than Duke or NC. The thumbnail is that the NCAA hasn't been putting both of those teams in NC subregionals. One year Duke gets the home cooking, the next year UNC gets the home cooking and Duke has to travel quite some ways. Meanwhile where have our first two rounds been? Oh, KC, Des Moines, Omaha, Tulsa, OK City. Nearly every year we've been in one of those places in our first two rounds. Those deliver lots of KU fans into the stands creating a home like atmosphere. You don't have to fly there from Lawrence, a quick 3-5 hour drive away. Bang, home crowd advantage.
I know some will say Duke gets the easy path and we get the tough path. I don't buy that either. Sure there's been some years where we're left whining, me included, but other years I look at our path with glee! Like last year. I had no inkling that Oregon was going to wax us in our home away from home. Last year was as sure of a FF for us as I remember in a long time. But we underperformed, OU overperformed whatever, but we went home nonetheless.
I would think the NCAA would like KU to be in the FF. We're a blue blood, a star studded team, traditional, Wilt, Phog, Larry, Dean, Adolph, Danny, etc. We're one of the favored programs. Of course you could argue the same for Duke, UNC and Kentucky.
Why isn't UNC in the Champions Classic every year? They should be instead of MState in my humble opinion. They're a true Blue Blood but that's a whole other topic.
If a KState coach Jack Gardner, whom I never heard of, with a resume like this can make the HOF then I have no problem with Bill Self Being in the Hall. National Coach of the Year (1970); three Big Seven titles (Kansas State); five Skyline Conference titles (Utah); coached NABC East-West All-Star (1953, 1960, 1964). There's all kinds of non championship winning coaches in the HOF like Ray Meyer, Guy Lewis etc.
Hmmm...KU Kentucky in Chicago. I just remembered I live in Chicago now...hmmmm.... Might need to start saving my pennies.
Apparently ESPN had a 30-30 in the works for Nebraska football in the 90's. They decided not to finish it, even though it had apparently been started already.
I liked Nebraska as a kid in New Jersey. Kept liking them through the 90's. Always an entertaining and powerful team from a state that shouldn't produce great teams.
I'm sure ESPN's awful coastal bias came into play here. A lot of comments on the story where I saw it were coastal fans who said things like no one cares about Nebraska football. But they were a national team for a long time. It's a shame.

Despite my poor attempt at humor I am excited about this kid coming to the Naismith Court next year.
I wonder if he's related to that baseball player Sammy Sousa?
One area near us (in Baton Rouge) last year won a years long fight to end the requirement to have flood insurance. Most people in the area stopped paying their premiums several months before BR's huge rain event. Meant a huge difference in payouts. Non flood insured got a flat rate not exceeding 32,000. Those with the insurance basically recovered everything. Huge difference.
Floods are a different beast than many other acts of God. Forest fires in California generally are in the hills and mountains. Wealthier people suffer. Landslides in Cali generally in the hills and mountains. Wealthier people suffer. Hurricanes hit coasts with million dollar beachfront homes or setback r homes of the wealthier. Again, they suffer loss. Floods however by logic strike lower areas. In many cities this is the poorer parts of town. Poorer people suffer. But Houston, and BR last year are different altogether, that much rain, just can't keep it out of the streets, homes, businesses and schools.
@Crimsonorblue22 Teaching middle school in a relatively poor south suburb called Markham. In general these south suburbs have a bit of Detroit going on. Housing dropping precipitously. Taxes ridiculous, when we buy a house we'll probably buy one in Indiana where living expenses are lower.
Thanks @jaybate-1-0 Move was prompted by a desire to move back to my Chicago roots. There's about 3 school districts here that would pay less than my Baton Rouge pay and I found one of them! We have kids here, family and extended family, and most importantly, I want to go to see the Sox play in person and be able to turn the tube on at night and see a team other than the Yankees or Red Sox.
news keeps calling it the fourth largest city but I think it passed up Chicago for 3rd place in the last couple of years. Chitown is losing residents fast.
I know you was...were....? I'm not an English teacher! School is better than where I've been. Still pretty rough, but that's where I'm destined to be so no biggy!
Here's a little insight from my blog on our 'little' flood of 25-30 inches last year in Baton Rouge. https://citeachery.wordpress.com/2016/09/02/floods/ ↗
I wasn't kicked out of nowhere.
@mayjay I have no clue. Sounds like something the Packers would do!
@jayballer54 I really don't care about pro football. It's just fun to make fun of the Packers! Yes I know the bears suck.
@Texas-Hawk-10 You ok? Was thinking you were in the Houston area.
@BShark That link doesn't open without signing up. Thumbnail sketch of what it says about Turg?
@mayjay After 30 inches of rain at our house last August we can handle whatever Harvey throws at us!
I've got a cousin in Corpus Christy right in the bulls eye. My wife is still in Baton Rouge selling our house. Praying for safety for all in harms way.
How soon til late night? 😋
Awe poor green bay packer babies. Tough schedule waaaaahhhhhhhh. Love, a Chicago Bear fan.
@JayHawkFanToo I wouldn't mind if the Big10 set the pace for these large conferences and went to a true round robin. That'd be 24 games. Nothing wrong with that in my view. It wouldn't work for football of course, but they could play more than the current 9 that they're playing this season.
The biggest upset of the whole thing is @elpoyo hasn't commented yet!
I like the trend here. More league games. Of course if they'd remained at 10 teams they could do just like the Big12 and do a true round robin.

Smoke? You mean he's lighting up too? :)
After a season of relatively minor (although if it'd been me in those incidents it certainly would have been major) incidents I'm hoping for a more peaceful season. I'm a little surprised the national spotlight didn't shine negatively on us too much last year. I know Dawson isn't playing this year. Hope the young man gets his act together because he's got the most amazing opportunity to have someone pay his tuition so that he can play basketball at the best place someone could go to play basketball. I don't know why any college kid would jeopardize such an opportunity.
@mayjay
Like this?
Yes, I think Duke would be duplicating what we've done. UNC has been up and down a little bit, heck, Roy didn't win this league but 9 out of the 14 years he was in town.
If someone's discussed this before I apologize, but it seems that they will let the winning team for each game, or maybe it's just the final (?) put their team name on a bracket that is near the court. Just a little perk for winning.
@mayjay I'm in everyone's head
Didn't know ya'll were still talking about me!
@Barney He's fading a bit today. Still in it and talented enough to make a run.

Should have said The only problem is you have to go to freaking baseball doesn't exist anymore espn.
Gary is in early contention at the PGA championship. Not sure if any Jayhawk has ever won a major championship. Can't think of any. Who besides Gary have been successful Jayhawks in pro golf?
The only problem is you have to go freaking baseball doesn't exist anymore espn.
@JayHawkFanToo Thanks for the kind words!
@Crimsonorblue22 @brooksmd Should be a little better caliber school than where I've been. It's in the suburbs, but rough suburb...kind of. Got 14 hours of solo driving to do today, so got to go!
@kjayhawks Thanks! Pay is low true, but there's other rewards!
