@jayballer54 said in Who Was It That Told Me There Was No Chance Bridges Would Be Back At MSU?:

@wissox I think your train of thought is just a tad of base. - -Were you the so called " embarrassment to your parents at anytime in your life? Everyone including you make mistakes but not necessarily an embarrassment. - - -BUT to each his own - -Once again I will continue to say an AWSOME KID, You have a great day. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

I never ended up having mugshots taken, court dates, stories about me causing 3000$ worth of damage to another persons car, never been cuffed, never been mentioned in the paper, so no, don't think I was an embarrassment to my parents. Sure I made mistakes, but criminal acts are in a different category of mistakes. Mistakes are forgetting to turn off the coffee pot, or taking a wrong turn or whatever. So sure everyone makes mistakes, but not everyone terrorizes (no matter how misguided she may be) another woman. Sorry, it's your train of thought that's derailed.

@JayHawkFanToo I guess you're right, but in the national press, and comments from readers, then he was an embarrassment. More than one writer wrote about us in quite negative terms and some of it of course was related to JJ.

This is a rant • Apr 13, 2017 03:24 PM

The fact we have a wonderful free site to chat KU hoops means I'm not complaining about how it looks. I don't use it on my phone, but anyways, rant on I guess.

@Crimsonorblue22 Not sure of the picture you're referencing. But you're right, I'm sure the coach will use many teaching moments from the escapades of that troubled young woman and the negativity that she helped create.

@jayballer54 "Awesome kid"? What you just described to me isn't an awesome kid. Don't get me wrong, he's got time to establish a good name, but I wouldn't call him an awesome kid. I'd say he's a bit of an embarrassment to the university right now. I hope he can put all of this in the rear view mirror and as you said have a huge NBA career.

Alright, who has got some new images? • Apr 12, 2017 11:59 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 I like that for general discussion!

JJ thinking the same? Be totally unexpected, but, he hasn't announced yet. Maybe he's waiting for his court date?

@drgnslayr Unfortunately, the death penalty for one of the blueblood NCAA hoops teams isn't going to happen I don't think. When SMU was penalized they had several probations for misconduct and still cheated. To my memory, UNC has not received any such penalty thus far.

Lot's of interesting comments there about KU also.

Let the firings begin • Apr 12, 2017 02:40 AM

@mayjay Obviously I missed that. Thanks.

Let the firings begin • Apr 12, 2017 12:09 AM

I hadn't seen this but there's another Jayhawk coaching DI basketball. CB McGrath, whom the UNC bio calls a key reserve for KU (??? really?) was hired by UNC Wilmington. Good hire for them I guess, but I really don't know too much about him.

Is March Maddness a Sham? • Apr 11, 2017 01:56 AM

@DoubleDD Yes, a thousand times yes! If college basketball crowned their champion like college football does, we'd have multiple national championships just in this millenium, let alone the 90's and even 80's.

I've maintained for years that the ncaa football champion is the purest champion in all of sports. Before the playoff, they'd choose the top two teams. Now sometimes there was some debate if one team or another should have been playing, but generally we were confident the two best teams were playing. Even with the four team playoff, we've seen some good champions, but interestingly, OSU doesn't win the championship several years ago if it was just the top two teams playing because they weren't.

Now if college hoops were like NCAA football, we're playing for the championship or the final four if you will, this season, last season, the previous season. I like our chances to win one of those four team tourneys. 2011, 2010 no VCU and NIU to knock off our top seeded teams. I think 2007 we were a top seed. I can't keep going back but to the obvious ones, 1998, top seed, 97 top seed, 94 top seed, 90 top seed. All of those would be final four years if there was a college style four team playoff.

But thing is we love the wild and wacky tournament even as we hate the frequent times it ends in disappointment.

Lawson Brothers Coming to KU • Apr 10, 2017 09:10 PM

This may be a move to get their other brothers and highly touted cousin in future years. Comments (I know, take with a grain of salt) but comments on the CBS story linked above had words like uncoachable, 21 inch vertical, Self inheriting problems, and a few others. Of course, Bill Self can turn Towson St commits in NPOY's and make us cheer when an Appalachian St. commit returns for his senior year. So I'm pretty darn confident if BS wanted these kids there's something there worth wanting.

DG news! • Apr 10, 2017 02:32 PM

@truehawk93 He still has announced so I'm being hopeful. I think I've heard some slightly, well, if my imagination runs wild, statements that he may come back.

Early departures around the league • Apr 09, 2017 12:21 AM

Back to back POY's sounds nice, right?

Early departures around the league • Apr 09, 2017 12:21 AM

Ok, since he's on the undecided list there, I'm holding out hope that JJ will undecide to go to the league like he's probably going to and come back for another season. Wishful thinking I know, but.....

Big night for Frank Mason 111-BIFM • Apr 08, 2017 07:04 PM

@mayjay Not sure if you understood my post! "Obviously, he’s not going to win at Towson like he did here, but he wouldn’t have been the first person to stand out at a mid major." OK, granted I guess they're not a mid major. Towson plays in the same league as George Mason which was called a mid major when they went final fouring.

My original post was if the guy was good enough to win NPOY, he had to have enough talent, even without the elite coaching/facilities/etc, to get noticed. Not trying to start a peeing match here, just discussing.

Big night for Frank Mason 111-BIFM • Apr 08, 2017 06:12 PM

@wrwlumpy Wayne had a decent game last night.

@Mayjay Obviously, he's not going to win at Towson like he did here, but he wouldn't have been the first person to stand out at a mid major, Stephen Curry is the obvious example. With talent and desire like he has, maybe he becomes well known there as well, I mean why not? He's obviously very talented.

Big night for Frank Mason 111-BIFM • Apr 08, 2017 01:19 PM

Of course Danny Manning should have swept all major awards as well. I mean Hersey Hawkins had a nice year too for a mid major, but Danny, well you all know what he did.

Big night for Frank Mason 111-BIFM • Apr 08, 2017 03:32 AM

@Blown @Crimsonorblue22 I'm not sure you're giving Frank enough credit then.

Big night for Frank Mason 111-BIFM • Apr 08, 2017 02:38 AM

This is basically unanswerable, but if Frank had gone to Towson instead, would he have won all these awards if he'd played there? Would any of us heard of him? I guess it's possible, but hard to say.

Is old man Ball a racist? • Apr 07, 2017 09:02 PM

A bunch of slow footed white guys were robbed of a national championship two years ago by refs against Duke.

Cole Aldrich: Smartest Guy in the Arena • Apr 07, 2017 12:54 PM

To be fair, the clip of just that play with replays and everything else shows Curry smiling and it's a 'whew, I got away with one' type of smile. He knew he double dribbled.

@kjayhawks I generally concur with your post about the NBA. But you got one thing wrong! The 90's NBA gave us a 7 game series between the Rockets and Knicks with zero games getting out of the 90's in points. That was a non Jordan year of course.

But the NBA of the 70's and 80's, well that was showtime! Dr. J, Magic, Kareem, Larry, Isaih, etc. The NBA became boring to watch in the 90's. The Bigeast-ization of the NBA was the 90's. That's when I started losing interest, even as a Bulls fan living in Chicago.

But truth be told, I'd still take the 90's NBA over todays.

@globaljaybird Thanks!

@BeddieKU23 Good info. I don't follow recruiting so that info is instructive. Don't think we want this kid.

@mayjay I ate all my cookies. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how to do that on my Macbook

@chriz I guess if I was a recruit (I'll wait til everyone stops laughing!) i might see Kentucky as a pretty good option. I mean it's a blue blood, it receives a great amount of attention, wins a lot, regularly plays in the FF. I'm not sure it receives that much less attention than Duke and UNC.

I normally wouldn't ask someone to do this, but I've used up my free articles at the Tribune, would you mind copying the text and pasting it here? Thanks.

I was reading on the Illini SB nation site and a lot of them (fans) were fed up with Tilmon, which is interesting since he's still in HS and they're starved for good players in Champaign. It seems just on Monday this week he tweeted that he was honoring his commitment and then two days later says he's reopening his recruitment. Some were speculating Cuonzo with his Illinois ties could get him to come over there.

Recruiting Master Thread Part Deux • Apr 06, 2017 04:24 PM

5 star recruit from Illinois reopens his recruiting. He backed out after Underwood was hired. He says he is still interested in the U of I but wants to explore other options. His name is Jeremiah Tilmon and he's a 4 or 5 star recruit depending on the scouting service. Not sure if he's interested in KU or vice-versa, but it's always interesting to consider.

KU Buckets Bracket Challenge! • Apr 05, 2017 11:33 PM

Wow, I was last before the final and moved up to third from last. Not sure how that happened! See I'm pleased because I knew I wouldn't see my name at the top of the leaderboard so I picked hoping my name would be at the bottom, so I kind of accomplished my goal.

Oakland honors.... • Apr 05, 2017 11:29 PM

I hated the guy, but was he ever a good player. I hated him for his arrogance. When he broke classy Lou Brocks steals record they brought a mic out to the field and he said. "now I am the greatest". At one point he had signed the largest contract in baseball and several months later was one upped by someone else. I forget if he was threatening to walk, or if he was just mad, but I saw Costas interview him before a game when he was mad and he was acting as if the A's or Yanks or whoever had him at the time had enslaved him.

@ralster Funny, maybe it's because in Roy's days at KU TO's weren't public information on the screen like they are now, but I don't remember him not calling them. I do know that Self will burn them quickly if he needs to.

@JayHawkFanToo I didn't have the stomach to watch the replay ad nauseum but I saw it as Karnowski getting knocked down by the UNC guy and falling into him. Nothing flagrant at all there in my view. I was pretty pissed about it, even though I was pretty neutral in the game.

The thing that annoys me is refs not seeing a foul in the course of action, but then going to the monitor to decide that it was not only a foul, but one deserving a tech. I mean where is that for every other foul that isn't called? Sure would love to have that benefit and hate to have it at the same time for lots of other calls!

Maybe they can do like golf and let viewers call in and assess a penalty a day later like what happened Sat/Sunday in the LPGA!

"Dear NCAA, I'd like you to take a look at the play involving Devonte Graham against Villanova a year ago in the elite 8 in Louisville. We clearly do not see that Devonte committed a foul and if you watch the replay, you'd agree. Sincerely, every KU fan who ever lived and breathed."

@Blown If you have the time can you run those numbers for college football? I think there's an eastern bias there as well, but maybe not as pronounced. I'd be interested to know.

this blows! • Apr 05, 2017 12:01 AM

@elpoyo got us talking without taking potshots back at him! Good for you sir! I've thought this for years. While Self's guys are playing pro ball, and sticking with teams, they're not tearing it up. Of course some day Wiggins and JJ and Embiid may be perennial all stars, and maybe Frank tears it up in the league too much to everyone's surprise. But in general I think one reason why Bill Self hasn't been able to deliver us to the promised land is because he hasn't had top shelf talent. He's a top shelf coach who gets guys to play to the top of their ability, but that ability just hasn't been enough.

I've seen several of these 'too early rankings but here's ours anyways' and we're right near the top in most of them. So there's some optimism for next year!

Here's why I think Gonzaga lost. And it's just my stupid theory. Williams-Goss came up with a sprained ankle, or reinjured it anyways. This was approximately with one minute left. The game was still up for grabs. Zaga needs a basket, I believe down 3 but they're playing for a two and then going to foul.

Goss stays in, he's trying to walk it off. Announcer gives the obligatory 'no way he's coming out at this point'. Well he should have. He forced a shot from about 17 feet, fading away, couldn't get elevation, almost airballed it. Next time down he's the go to guy again, can't even get a shot off because his weak ankle gives out on him, or he slips, or something. Game over. I don't know anything about his team and options besides him, but Few should have been trying someone else.

And one other crazy thing from that game. As HEM points out, Roy is a great coach. He finished the game with 3 TO's in his pocket. I think he used one in the first half. That whole tense 2nd half, no TO's. That's a team that knows what the coach wants them to do.

Gonzaga vs UNC Game Thread • Apr 04, 2017 03:43 AM

And once again, our championship goes to someone else. They can't take my 1988 championship from me when I was a senior and it keeps me going 30 years later! Next season though, a year ending in 8, I've got a good feeling!

You gotta love Roy Williams. NC game, last minute. He's used 1 TO!

Gonzaga vs UNC Game Thread • Apr 04, 2017 03:26 AM

SOmetimes I'd like to see these players or coaches just become unglued against these refs. I know it would cost them their seasons or a few games or whatever, but anytime they are tempted to they ought to just go off. Not too many coaches go wild on refs anymore. Players obviously don't but when a ref can stop the game and go look for a foul on a monitor they need to be confronted with this crap.

Gonzaga vs UNC Game Thread • Apr 04, 2017 03:20 AM

I"m sorry, and I really have no dog in this fight, but it's looking to me like refs are trying to turn it to the ACC's way here. Karn. has the ball, and UNC guy fouls him which makes Karn fall down. In real time, foul on UNC. But not, let's go to the monitor and voila, foul too on Karn. What's to stop a coach from saying "I think that guy fouled us, can you go and look at it?? That's almost precisely
what happened.

And now both Zaga bigs can't play D because of the fouls, of course Meeks is out with a 4th too. I guess the refs have sucked all year, they might as well suck in the NC game too.

@mayjay That's a big hire, pun intended.

Bragg - Thoughts and Feelings? • Apr 03, 2017 09:02 PM

@mayjay I agree on his range. It was always kind of ugly I thought, kind of flat, but they went in. He seemingly didn't make any of those this year.

Game #1 - Twins 3:10 PM • Apr 03, 2017 08:53 PM

Rushed home from work to watch the Sox get rained out. At least we won't be in last place after today in this rebuilding year! Keeping an eye on Royals game due to free coverage this week on DirectTV

Bragg - Thoughts and Feelings? • Apr 03, 2017 08:51 PM

I think Bragg's season went up smoke. The paraphernalia found in his room could very well be the reason why we are having this discussion instead of discussing how we're going to clean Gonzaga's clock tonight. I don't want to make this a forum on pot, but the stuff has been illegal for a reason.

That being said, I was a little skeptical of the "most improved player in America" proclamations that we were hearing during the preseason. He was decent last year, but I didn't see anything his freshman season that made my mouth water in anticipation.
