I aint winning no more
@approxinfinity Yeah, my success is hinged on Illinois and Purdue continuing to win. Ill inois was a I grew up here pick instead of a head pick because I doubt they're beating UCONN.
@dylans Zona has been a top 2 seed in the west at least three times playing in the relatively cozy confines of LA and lost 3 times in the regional out there. I looked at Zona's history page and they're 4-8 all time against us, but have winning records against Duke and Kentucky and Mich State. We're the only blue blood they can't handle but that will be put to the test as they join our league.
Who's on first?
@wissox Just read Shead got hurt. Too bad especially as it benefits Duke.
Not watching but Duke Houston combine for 45 first half points. When MSU-UW did a little worse in 2000 Roy Williams famously said they were pushing the game back a half century. I wonder if he's dusting up that line again?
Hilarious on Twitter seeing KState fans take shots at ISU for losing last night. Hilarious seeing ISU fans on twitter (X) saying the loss isn't surprising since they're now every teams super bowl. Yes, we now call ISU our Super Bowl!
These are some great games tonight.
Terrance Shannon Jr. has a weirdly effective 3 point shot. Looks kind of odd but he makes them at a decent rate.
@Crimsonorblue22 Fans don't run on the court there's no controversy. Why would they flop?
@RockkChalkk I kind of liked your first part but the court storming flop comment just gauls me. I think your feelings about her are clouding your judgment about that moment. Fans doing something technically illegal run into her and you really think she had time to process that situation like ok I'm gonna flop? I'm no fan of her or Filipkowski at Duke but I'm appalled people will criticize them because of out of control fans running into them.
He played for KU I assume?
Gus Yalden now in the portal. I'm really pissed about this one, I wanted to see him play in Madison. No one knows how good he'll be but he was a 4 star who didn't play because of two misdemeanors just before the season started for marijuana and underage drinking. The team was silent on his status all season which was kind of frustrating. Maybe the truth will come out and I'll realize he shouldn't be playing at all. But if he can be fixed up he supposedly has a lot of game.
Never been so uninterested in a Sox season opener than I am right now.
@kjayhawks Haha, yes, I actually told the fullback it would be a good strategy to raise his hands up at a ball whilst in the penalty area because we needed to test our goalie in a PK situation.
Don't know too much about Dug McDaniel, but he entered the portal today. Averaged 16 a game for Michigan, has 2 years eligibility. He just doesn't know how to spell Doug.
Tony Perkins is a baller for Iowa and he's got one year left.
Hilariously Patrick McCaffery has transferred from his daddy at Iowa.
I get @dylans point. Most sports don't have very "pure" champions anymore. In professional sports wildcards means lesser baseball teams can get hot and ride a couple of hot arms deep into October. NBA almost crowned a Miami team that was a minute away from losing in the playin tournament last year. NFL sees wildcards advance far it seems many years. But college football always had it right. They always had 4 great teams with some debates some year of a team that should have been invited instead, but the team hoisting the plaque was always one of the very best teams. Now they're watering it down and some year a team that squeaks in with 3 losses will get hot or healthy and win a Natty. I documented several months ago how UConn has seemingly been lucky each of their 5 championships by defeating a watered down final 4 each time, with maybe an exception the first time they won.
The big argument against limiting the field is our 88 team doesn't qualify for the dance, nor does Villanova the year before, but there really are few teams winning the NCAA that wouldn't have been invited if the field was limited to 32 teams.
@approxinfinity You hadn't heard of him? He's a really dynamic player. Defense is pretty poor which I think keeps him in mid major territory. Chicago kid too which makes me proud but like why Terra Haute? Why not more local here?
Might be some good viewing tonight to see Indiana St and Cream Abdul Jabbar take on Cincy in the NIT. 8 central on ESPN.
The Brooks Jr. High Warriors are now 1-0 on the girls side and 0-1 on the boys side. The girls listened to their coach and won and the boys didn't listen and lost! The coach is the same person....me!
Been busy all day, but good debate here. Yes COVID means Remy plays another year meaning we get him for a 5th. I wholeheartedly agree, no Remy, no championship.
Och steal vs. Creighton leads to win in round of 32. I guess that shows that was not our strongest team either, which I always thought. Certainly not as good as 08, and probably not as strong as other KU teams that didn't win it like in 86, 97, and 02/03.
UCONN this year? IDK. We beat them, and even then people were saying this team may not be as good as people think. We struggled with Yale and a few weaker teams and got blown out by Marquette. I had a sneaking suspicion this team might not be as strong, especially after the disaster at Central Florida. I'd be happy to have a down year or three to win a championship or even knock on the door periodically.
@kjayhawks The question I'm trying to figure out (and I know it's hard to answer ) is does KU win in 2020 and 2022 if they'd had the chance to play in a tournament in 2020? That's what I'm trying to figure out.
People are starting to have to defend Bill Self and others are starting to whisper maybe his seat should be hot. They cite a 'lucky' 2022 championship where Remy bailed them out. They cite the '19, '21, '23 and now '24 quick exits from the big dance as evidence that the man has lost his touch or is losing his touch.
In 2020 the counter argument goes that we had the best team in the country and were handsdown favorites to cut down the nets in early April. So, the argument goes, Bill probably has 2 championships in 3 years so the other early debacles, (and face it, Auburn, USC and Gonzaga were debacles) are somewhat expected results when you're winning Nattys in the intervening years.
Now when you win in 2020 I wonder do Dave, Och, Jalen, and Christian all stay in Lawrence driving for another championship, or do some leave school early for the league? I don't recall who was even a candidate to leave early among those guys, but winning a championship can inspire one to feel accomplished at the college level and move on.
I had the same thought in 2003 and 2008 as well. Way different situation of course, not the least of which was the coaching change. But does the dynamic of the team change enough that 2008 doesn't happen if 2003 had turned out differently?
Sad we're inventing topics to discuss in the offseason, but the time has come to start looking forward to next year and consider these things that has always interested me.
Bracketwise I'm glad Houston won.
It was a bad day in the Drew family.
ACC is outplaying our league in the dance.
A met a man in church yesterday. He's our pastors father and he was a longtime assistant coach to Lenny Wilkins. He earned the Tex Winter Asst. coach award which is kind of like a HOF award for assistants. Went from D3 to the NBA! He had Danny Manning on a few of his seasons. He said Danny would bring donuts to practice every day. Also said Danny didn't like the socks the teams provided and always wore his own. He's 91 and still remarkably healthy and tells great stories.
@Texas-Hawk-10 He was hurt at the beginning and never found his shot. His defense is pretty weak too, and with 3 new guys at the guard position, his minutes diminished a lot. When he is on like last years first 2/3rds he really is a weapon.
Connor Essegian now in the portal. He might be worth a look, but coaches know better than I.
@jayballer67 I'm confused, LSU won the National Championship in baseball last season. They replaced the coach?
Rough day for the Drew brothers, Bryce and Scott both lost today.
I'd be thrilled to see Northwestern knock off Uconn. Their fans got real mouthy after we lost yesterday.
Just watched the Womens Frozen Four. Badgers lose to Ohio St. Miracle on Ice player Mark Johnson would have won his 8th championship if they'd won. Both teams have 2 championships in lat 4 years. As you can imagine the two teams are intense rivals.
Side note, a daughters classmate from HS transferred to KU from LSU in baseball (why?) and hit for the cycle for the Jayhawks Friday night! Cool stuff.
@kjayhawks I'll be honest, there's a lot of what you've said in the last month that's pissed me off, but you know your stuff a lot better than I do and advocating for Cousinard shows it because I've not heard of him before tonight.
@kjayhawks You're saying he would've worked out better than the criminal from Texas?
Cousinard is from East Chicago, the town next to where we currently live. I think Elijah Johnson was from there too.
Cousinard is a 25 year old senior.
@FarmerJayhawk From my Chicago perspective that would mean I'd get to see them locally far more often.
@FarmerJayhawk said in Saturday’s Games (round of 32):
Dante is a monster
and he has an inferno too from what I've read
The schools and coaches that figure out NIL, the portal, and conference realignment the best are the ones who are going to be cutting down nets. Something that hasn't been discussed among the talking heads that I've heard is the talks with the SEC and BIG to withdraw from the NCAA and do their own thing. How will that affect us? A lot I'd say.
Not entirely comparable obviously but the Golf world is being rocked by LIV harming the PGA. You'd have to be a pretty regular follower to recognize the names of the players in this weeks tournament, the Velspar Championship. Even last weeks TPC, sometimes called the 5th major was missing many big names.
Are we going to suffer the same? While the big boys of the SEC and BIG compete in their 'league', we'll be competitive still in a watered down NCAA, but watching the big name players go to the bigger bucks of this new coalition.
@approxinfinity Wow, didn't know you were a JMU grad! Congrats, yes of course we're all Dukes now.
I"m turning it off. It's just not worth getting all worked up. We won the whole dang prize in 2022 and that still feels great!
Elmarko gonna have to work with a sports psych person over the summer. He just loses his head and makes these glaring mistakes. Like that pass to wide open KJ.
@kjayhawks I disagree.
"This is what Kansas fans didn't have in mind" we were just told. Brilliant analysis.
Wow, from 4 up to 7 down just like that.
pourous
Timberrrrr
That view is my sons view
Sure is hard to watch a game with a newly mobile 1 year old grandson in the house!
Congrats to @Crimsonorblue22 who is dominating our groups brackets right now.
San Diego St, St. Mary's, Wisconsin, Gonzaga. The four #4 seeds in the tourney. I think we got the toughest #5 seed.
7-11 on 3's
